MuttleyLaff:yu are utterly wrong here @ bolded. For the fact that we don't have a copius useage of the term in the bible doesn't mean the early early believers never subscribed to the useage of that name. Moreso, the singular employment of that name by peter to early believers clearly disproves your claim. As that verse of 1 Peter 4 vs 16 is not a simile but a clear statement of fact. I will deal more on this when i reply malvisguy. Lets take a trip down memory lane,My brother, this is clearly a false analogy as yu already have a premeditated conclusion that the word 'christain' is a slur word and therefore derogatory. The problem i tend to have with some Christians is when they come out and make assertive statements on issues in the bible that they do not have cogent evidence to back up their claims. And yu are found wanton on this unnecessary malady, as there is no shred of evidence from the scripture that the word/term christian is derogative in nature/application. As a result it will be very wrong for yu to say with any sense of certitude that the word/term in question is derogative to say the least. So bruh on this one ooh! The ground yu are standing on is a sinking sand. As yu do not have any evidence from the bible to bolster your claim. I personally think yu pulled this one up from tradition or from badwagon effect. 'cuz some authority have come up wt such claim and yu graciously inclined to dance along without proper personal study/research on the issue. Now don't blame Catholics for holding on to doctrine/teachings that has been inspired by spurious traditions of men- but lacking in everyway any scriptural foundation. Moreover the word Christian on its own is not derogatory in anyway, as the little i know of it simply means - Christ one /follower/immitator of Christ /Christ like /little Christ. From these afforementioned meaning, i do not see anything derogatory in it. And i'm sure d early believers were not averse 2 subscribe to such appellation, even when it is possible that the non believing Antioch residents used it to spite them for their lifestyle and conduct which was in non conformity with that of the world. Nonetheless the meaning of the word on itself is not derogatory. In a nutshell contemptuosly using the word 'christian' does not in anyway change the fact that it means one who belong/ follow /or immitate the person of christ. - And if that is the root meaning of it, and however it is being used despitefully, i will gladly love to be called by such name/appellation. |
zionmade:My brother no mind dem biko. Na dem dey claim say dem get sense pass - ITK. blundering idoitards wey dem be. But bruh pastor Chris no try for dat N1000 gate fee wey him they collect oo! |
analice107:Dear Analice, yu made your point already as regards the skunk that thinks it's sports to bring railing accusation against the man of God. Now you've got to watch it. Don't let these folks get under your skin so as to make yu say stuffs that are not appropiate like using expletives on someone's else mum. Abeg yu pass this level my dearest sister uhm! But as for thess other boneheads here on NL, if yu ever loose it and feel like riping them apart with invectives, then be sure say i dey your back. Even oga vooks no dey dull for dat one.

Just a point of correction. Yu said the early christians and apostles never called themselves christians. Well i actually think that the reverse might be the case. As we can see from the following verse of scripture. 1 Peter 4:16 - Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on his behalf. KJV I've been enjoying your post though. God bless. |
MizMyColi:Wow!.........what a beauty of an answer. Sincerely i wouldn't want to derail your thread with further questions or to keep harping on this same issue. Have yu on my good books - yeah yu may not understand this line, never mind. Will wait and see how things pans out. Take good care. |
MizMyColi:Can't complain my beautiful and intelligent sister. And gud evening to yu. Why do you think it's a delusion?Guess reading through your entire post. And of course from the spiritual hieght upon which i'm standing, it will be safe if i came to such conclusion. Well if yu doubt me, i'll like to pose a little question to you. ........can yu raise the dead? Haha, i' ll be waitng for an answer. P.S Stumbled into yu last year in the politics section. Love your political thought and leaning. Edited - [b/] Sorry if my question offended your sensibility. Had to ask it though. |
MizMyColi:Hmmm...................what a delusion of grandeur! |
Macelliot:yeah! Yu might be right bruh. Cuz' some of the few threads i've seen satanist/occuultist open here on NL, i hardly see them atheist come around to engage them. Lol. |
frank317:Young man watch your tongue. |

^^^^ Mtccccww.......wwww,,,what a feeble and boring attempt to discredit the bible.. OP yu no even try at aaallllllll. Yu should really be ashamed of yourself for utter lack of creativity on your path. SHM. |
MizFrances:God bless yu for these spiritual nuggets on prayer. |

Omavik:Hian!..........only yu.....triplet, quadruplet......oooo!! |
ruffhandu:Bruh........dat one really got me cracking my ribs. |
@ hahn, You have succeded in qouting some of those scriptures out of context.............though a few of them. As for the rest, i will make bold to tell yu that they are exactly what they are........................ And the last thing i'll do is trying to stoke your ego by trying to explain that most of those laws were civil laws put in place to govern the children of Isreal at that point in time in their history.........though very very capital in nature, yet there lies an under current of spiritual import that is explicitly explained in the new testament why such law was given in the first place. Seeing that yu are spiritually dead, of what use would it be then to throw pearls to a swine. Hahn, i can only assure yu one thing.......God is God and there is nothing in this world that yu can do to change or alter "that fact" - (who he is)........ No matter what yu and your fellow atheists do to belittle him, make him look inconsquential and portray him as the evil monster yu will have him be...... Know this for the rest of your life, none of your campaign of calumny can ever change who my God and father is......he does not and cannot and will never ever give an accounting of himself to no man. And he does and will ever do whatever he pleases.....get this into your demon possessed skull, yu child of beliar. While at it make sure you don't kick the bucket without recieving Christ into your life........or else yu gonna roast in hell......... .....kikikikikiki...........and tell me watcha gonna do about it......come oonnn! whine some more, yu demonbag of an imp. Johnydon22 i hail ooo!! |
KingEbukasBlog:You too much bruh..........very inspiring peice. God bless. Atheists are fighting a lost battle. |
KingEbukasBlog:Lmao. ............you really got them here. |
dearpreye:My broda, i'm still at loss why yu had 2 come down so hard on Oselumhe. I've actually gone 2ru his post over again n can't seem 2 see why yu had 2 portray him as the " typical self righteous type". As there is nothing really toxic in his post dat could hv made yu 2 hit out at him the way yu did. And wt regards 2 Analice107, yes her comments may sound a bit harsh......but sincerly speaking, d Op's initial statement dat she is quiting christianity because of unanswered prayers n coupled wt d hate words she has been reading frm d atheist here on NL... Don't yu think Analice stern rebuking also has a role 2 play in an effort 2 reshape her n make her understand dat there are people dat have gone 2ru worse situations than hers. Yea i agree dat we individually react 2 challenges based on our level of growth... But there is nothing completely bad in having some matured christians openly n sternly rebuking younger christians for lack of faith 2ward God in their trying period.....it is also seen as chastisement in the scripture... Heb. 12:5 - And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaket unto yu as unto children, MY SON DESPISE NOT THOU THE CHASTENING OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN THOU ART REBUKED OF HIM 6..FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVETH HE CHASTENETH, AND SCOURGETH EVERY SON WHOM HE RECIEVETH... 8...But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards and not sons. 11..Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grevious: nevertheless afterward it yiedeth the peaceable fruit of rigtheousness unto them which are exercised thereby. ...even Job was rebuked by God at d end of the day for his overtly attitude of claiming innocency and being undeservedly been attacked by God. Even though we know he was going 2ru a hell of time, and he never renouced nor denouced God. Nonetheless the Lord rebuked him when he went off tangent. Plz , read Job 38-41. My brother if we want 2 b sincere wt ourselves, it would be absolutely wrong if every one of us(christians) here had 2 come and like pamper her wt love n emotions - even wt d application of scriptures. So i want yu 2 see some of these seemingly harsh rebuking as an act of love as well....for who ever the lord loves he chastises....and of course i'm in no way in support of some other excessively toxic comments. Moreso for yu... Dat statement of yours that the problem of christianity are christians themselves is tantamount to washing dirty linen in public....it doesn't speak well for a matured christian that is born again, Spirit led and broken. Finally lets learn to correct others we feel have erred in love, rather than being judgemental...note i'm not saying this to judge yu.......buh if yu felt that both of them were unnecessarly hard at d Op, yu shud have corrected them in love. I really empathise wt d Op, i've sent her my kind words in my earlier post......i hope she is picking up........the Lord is our strength. |
analice107:Wow!!!....10yrs dealing with the Lord? Beautiful. I like that...my was a couple years longer than yours.....wetin i go 2ru, mouth no fit talk am. There is nothing like having a private dealing with the Lord......a personal encounter.......a holy romance with divinity. That is where he gets to make and mould you into the divine person and message he is preparing you for......that period no dey easy ooo! But he will always come 2ru for you at the end of the day. ......but our sister her is going 2ru a phase. It might not be at our own level, but lets try and encourage her. May the Lord help us in our christian walk. |
When i first read ur post, i never felt taken aback @ ur decision to quit christianity. 'Cos such public renouncing by some of these never-do-well and half baked xtians is fast becoming a common place here on nairaland. But after going 2ru your responses, i am now inclined to believe yu are going thru a difficult period in ur xtian walk. And yu also appear sincere in soliciting for help in terms of advice. Let me just share this insight in walking wt God wt yu. Yu said that yu' ve prayed and fasted and yet yu feel God just getting further away from yu. The issue here is: i. It is either yu are not praying alright, cos God always answers prayers. 1 John 5:14. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us. Vs 15. And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask , we know we have the petition that we desired of him. So if yu feel yu are not getting answers 2 ur prayers be sure yu are not praying according to his will. ii. Or yu have prolem hearing from him and in other to hear from God yu've got 2 understand that God is more interested in speaking 2 yu than yu are willing to hearing from him. With these said yu' ve got to cultivate and nourish an attitude to hearing from God, Isaiah 30:20. And though the Lord give yu d bread of adversity, and d water of affliction, yet shall not thy teacher be removed into a corner anymore. But thine eyes shall see thy teacher: vs 21. And thine ears shall hear a word behind(within) thee, saying this is the way, walk ye in it when ye turn 2 d right hand n when ye turn 2 d left. iii. yu must also understand that d xtian walk is not a micro- wave experience. There are no quick fix to it. You have 2 learn 2 develop urself 2ru patience n humility by d trials n afflition yu go 2ru in life. As they end up making yu a better xtian. 1 Peter1:6. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness 2ru manifold temptations: vs 7. That d trial of ur faith, being much more precious than gold that perisheth, though it be tried wt fire, might be found unto praise n honour and glory at d appearing of Jesus Christ. Finally, pls take heed to what some of d other posters hv said. Learn to take attention away from ur own problem by taking time to pray for other people...he that waters shall also himself be watered. My sister yu are a daughter of the most high and he will never leave nor forsake yu. Bye n remain blessed. |
KingEbukasBlog:My brother i've been following you and i love it when you take those dumb wanna be atheists to the cleaners. God bless you. |
Jadonjack:Relax n stop blowing hot! My prayer is that, may the Spirit of God strengten your dad in faith and in everywise even on his sick bed. As for u chill. Nobody has ever fought against God and prospered. And non of us here is trying to bully u to believe in God. Jadonjack, i pray that one day this veil of unbelieve that has blinded u spiritually will be removed and you will truly see how lovely and gracious this God you have been insulting is. He truly loves you even though you don't believe in him and you may not know and understand that. |
@ analice107. Pls it's ok. Don't let them get you hot under your collar. I actually know what it feels like watching them badmouth their creator...and you obviously know the rule governing them.....they claim to be wise in their own conceit but we actaully know how dumb and foo.lish they are. It is well! |
vooks:ROFLMAO! |
analice107:My sister or is it brother in the Lord,.. I' ve been following ur comments on this thread and i must say that i have been higly impressed with ur response so far. You' ve come out to openly rebuke the Op on his lack of faith towards God and i want to assure you that you' ve got my support and most importantly that of heaven. As we all can't continue petting them. So as to see if we can by any means stir their heart back to God. If that is ever going to happen, then there must be an element of rebuking going alongside with it. Pls don't let them try to intimidate you in any way....greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. For we are not ignorant of who their real sponsor is. God bless you. As for johnydon22, i really love this guy with the love of God and i can confidently say that he appears to be the only objective atheist i have seen here on nairaland. I 've been praying in my heart to see if the Lord can hand his case over to me so that i can arrest him back to the things of the Spirit of God. And of course as many other atheist here on nairaland. Malvisguy212, Vooks, Kingebukasblog, Sportsmaster, Truthman2014, pappville, etc....i hail una o! And may our good God continue to strengthen you guys in Jesus name..Amen. |
MizJanet:Non-Church Woman, hope you will also agree with me that it's about time you received the Holy Spirit. As having him indwell you, will help revolutionize your whole outlook and perspective towards religious matters and completely alter and overhaul your hate alttitude towards God and the Bible for good. Also, remember, for this life changing experience to happen, youv'e got to first receive Christ into your life. And i sincerely hope you give this a second thought. GOD LOVES YOU. My sister he is real! Back to your question, i personally consider this charge a feeble one. First, the word translated "spirit" in Romans 8:26 in Greek is Pnuema and it means air/breath and is also synomynous with the human spirit or in christian parlance "the inner/inward man". Also, it is also used for the Spirit of God. Also, in Greek every word has it's own distinct gender description: masculine, feminine or nueter. Now the gender description for the word "pnuema" as found in Romans 8:26 is nueter. Thus the King James Bible correctly translates pnuema(spirit) as "itself". As it would be grammatically wrong to translate it "himself" since the gender description for the word pnuema is nueter and not masculine or feminine. Shallom. |
