Interesting thread! OK, let me share mine. . . It was on my friend's wedding, I was among the groom's men and my girlfriend of 3yrs was the chief bridesmaid, then came the time for me to give a toast to the new couple. . . I told the story of how the couple met and how they fought all challenges and obstacles to be together and how they are made for each other from heaven. . . it was an highly emotional speech and everyone was moved to tears and toasted to a beautiful future for my friend and his wife, Just when the people were about to drop their wine glasses, I sought their indulgence for few minutes, then told them about a young lady that captured my heart and how I believe she is made in heaven for me, and right in front of all I asked my girlfriend to marry me. . . with so much tears in her eyes she said 'Yes' then came the moment for me to put a ring on her finger. . . oops! I have not bought any ring , and of course no marriage followed. ![]() |

Dont be too sure those days are gone, may be they are lot more discreet these days. We dont know what happened to lots of those missing people. heard rumors that they still bury dead kings with living men (bodyguards), that must escort him to 'aja'. Hope the rumor is untrue sa. |
fstranger3:I believe in putting all the options on the table and allow the best candidate do the job. Not allow any riff-raff from my village to lead cos it is the turn of my village to produce a leader. How much of zoning debate do you hear from the west? or are they not practicing democracy |
Betty A good number of our folks in Nigeria are still very much weary of cross cultural marriages for fear of unknown and other reasons But then I know a lot of people who got over those barriers, not immediately or with ease, but overtime with much persuasions. It depends on your bf, what is his stand? does he believe he can persuade/convince his family to change their mind? If he doesn't believe he can, and he thinks you two should end the relationship, then you might just leave him and move on. |

chaircover:Whatever a male lecturer can do, a female lecturer can do. . . even better. forgive my joke Anyway, it is news to me as well, I have not heard of a Nigerian female lecturer harassing a male student, not to talk of a female student, but then anything can happen. mutter:You forgot to tell us what you eventually did to pass, or our guess is as good as yours ![]() |

Who are those people obj was calling thieves and barons of divisions? |
@KnowAll While I understand and share part of your sentiments about the level of corruption, short sightedness and wastages currently going on Nigeria, It will still take decades for Angola to match up with Nigeria in terms of development. You are only talking about Luanda, not the entire country, but we have already built a city from oil wealth, Angola is yet to do anything close to that and I doubt the numerous projects going on in Luanda can match up with the on going projects in Lagos alone. |
Unfortunately most if not all of these UK/overseas base politicians will not be voting, and I wonder how many of them are known in their constituencies. |
