This is a digression, and I am not dumb like you to lose focus of a debate. The fact remains that only a small % of the population can be considered to be intelligent and the difference is clear/noticeable. QED.

But I will indulge you a little (though I doubt you have the brain to grab this). All things being equal, intelligent people will succeed and achieve far more results than dumbs like you. But unfortunately we live in an imperfect world and under  democratic rules that give equal weight to votes of dumbs like you and intelligent people like me. And many times we have dumbs and averaged-intelligent people (who are more in number) voting for dumbs to be in power and those dumbs take decisions that affects the likes of me. This is the reason why I support Sagamite's Geniocracy. Morons like you should not have a right to vote and if they do, the weight of their vote should be like 1/10th of mine.

Nonetheless, the chances of an intelligent person succeeding in an imperfect world is million times higher than dumbs like you and when morons like you gets into power and messed up a lot of things, it will take ONLY intelligent people like us to fix it. No, we are not saying the same thing. While I agree with your proposition that some people perform better than others in their good areas (training, specialization, talents etc) I am saying we do not just declare someone as being intelligent just like that. For instance, if I am a scientist and you are an artist, the fact that I know a lot more in the field of science does not make me more intelligent than you, nor the fact that you know more than me in the field of art does not make you more intelligent than me.

Therefore, the only way we know intelligent people is to compare apple with apple. For instance when you bring 10 people with same calling, level of education etc, you will still find out that there will be 1 or 2 people who perform exceptionally well above the average. In that class of 10 people, while some will be regarded as dumb cos they are below average, majority will be average then there will be 1 or 2 people that might be above average, those are the intelligent ones. This is the whole essence of finding out people's IQ (Intelligent Quotient) to know whether the person is dumb, average or intelligent. (goggle/read more about IQ and bell curve)

So when someone is described as being intelligent, it simply means he is well above average. If i say for instance I need an intelligent driver, it means i dont just need anyone with a drivers' licence who can drive, it means I need someone who can drive exceptionally well. Hope you get it now, cos I am not sure i can make it simpler than this.

Apparently  you are not even getting it at all.  You are changing the focus of the debate cos we are not talking about area of strengths or weaknesses or specializations.  Let me come to your level and break it than for you.

We know that there is no one that is an island of knowledge or that is Mr knows-it-all, but when you bring people with the same strength, gifting, training, or specialization together, few are found to be way above average, these are the intelligent ones because they possess a superior ability to learn, understand and solve more complex problems than their average mates can do.



Blackteeth, take this as a friendly advice (for real). I dont want you to be part of a common trend I see often on NL, that is; people finding it difficult to admit they goofed when they did. Everybody goofs at one point or the other and that doesn't make him/her a lesser being, because like I said earlier no one is Mr knows-it all, but the mark of maturity is your ability to admit you goofed and move on. Truth is that such admittance  doesn't reduce people but earns them respect cos it means they are intelligent/smart enough to see their error and mature enough to admit it. The more people try to defend an error the more they look silly especially when they are dealing with someone who knows much better.

Honestly, If am in you shoes, I would have have long say things like "thanks guys, I see your points" or if am not fully convinced I say things like "You are entitled to your opnion, thanks" and walk away. The seemingly insults and jests not withstanding cos those are only side attractions that make debates interesting, especially in our African traditions context.
