PHIPEX: I can safely conclude that most of Nigerians that have been out of this country for the past 8yrs have lost touch with the reality of happenings in this country. If you rely on the news in the media to judge Nigerian then you are not different from a total stranger who hasn't been to Nigeria. For instance, I know how Lagos was 8 yrs ago and how it is now, the same can be said of Nigeria.
Wrong! Many are more in touch than you can imagine. Its just that exposure has thought them to know better. They hardly ever go to bed thinking someone is coming to rob them, or imagine robbers waiting on the road while on a journey, or being kidnapped on a broad daylight for heavy ransom. In the event of a crime, upon dialing 911 they expect police to show up in less than 30mins, failure upon which someone will lose his/her job. Also most of the crimes are not swept under the carpet and left unsolved.

solomon111: Just like someone said,Nigeria have very few patriots.
The so-called citizens have so over-amplified negatives stereotypes about the country even to ignorant foreigners.
Which is why i don't even blame unscrupulous western media anymore for any untrue negative depiction of Nigeria, afterall the so-called citizens are there to re-enforce it anyway even when they know the truth.
I mean who needs BBC and CNN, when we can get Nigerians themselves to humiliate their country.
Divide the damn country,Nigeria has no true citizen.
I doubt you are more passionate and patriotic about Nigeria than me. Telling the truth and desiring a better country is not unpatriotic.

Not a crime to say what you want. I only noticed.... never mind, carry on.

solomon111: pls sir, would you mind telling me your definition of a secured country, and give us an example of the 'secured country' you've lived in.
As per the definition, Google is your friend, my friend! I am not obliged to tell you where and where I have lived, I dont bother with such on a faceless forum. Even if I tell you, why should you believe me? Anybody can claim to be anybody on a faceless forum.

Did you actually call people illiterate?

Billyonaire: Lagos is unsafe, doesnt make Nigeria unsafe. You have no knowledge of Nigeria apart from your parochial geography knowledge. Do not judge Nigeria from common sense and overbloated statistics of arms chair journalists, except you are daft enough to believe every shit you read on internet.
lol

I feel even much safer in Lagos compare to a good number of places in Nigeria. This is not about GEJ's PDP or Tinubu's ACN. If we dont admit our problems and tell ourselves the truth, how are we going to even make attempt to solve the problems?

I doubt you have ever lived in a safe and secured country, else you will know the difference.

PHIPEX: We can as well say that Boston is not safe based on last week's event or say similar thing about Canada. You don't use what happened to an individual to draw a conclusion on a city housing about 10million people.
Except that Boston event doesn't happen every week or every month. If it does we will have to declare the city unsafe. But kidnappings, robberies, etc are almost daily occurrence in Lagos and Nigeria. More than 3/4 of it are not even reported in the news. I know someone close to me whose mother was kidnapped with a week old child in Lagos about 2 weeks ago. You dont want to know what the family went through, how much was paid and where they eventually left the victims.

If you have not been affected, thank God. But we have serious security challenges in Lagos and in Nigeria. BTW, am a proud Lagosian/Nigerian, just have to state the facts.
PoliticsRe: Is Nigeria Really Unsafe? by OAM4J: 11:30pm On Apr 25, 2013
PHIPEX: The question then should be what criteria do you use to measure safety because for someone like me in Lagos, Nigeria is safe but someone in Kano may think otherwise. How do you measure safety?
Ask Ejigbo Local Government Chairman how safe Lagos is.

@Topic

How can someone who traveled with a federal minister and security escorts know how safe the country really is?

Henry120: www.nairaland.com/415620/strongest-military-africa/206

Good morning mods

I need your assistance in solving this problem. The thread posted above is the only running military thread in nairaland. However the spambot is making the discussion in the thread, very frustrating as it keeps banning and hiding post made especially by the south africans on that thread.

To have an educative thread, especially on the topic, all information shared is vital. Let me also add that the thread has been running since 2011

I'd be really grateful to see that my request is granted, which is to un hide the post made by contributors on the thread and ease up on banning of the south african posters.

P.s, I'm a nigerian.
Sorry about that.

Please just report any anti spambot error here, or send me a PM if you are the one banned, we will act on it ASAP.
ComputersRe: Help: How To Download YouTube Videos by OAM4J: 11:17am On Apr 24, 2013
Download real player from here http://uk.real.com/ and install it.

After the installation when you play any video from any site move the mouse pointer across the video screen, you will see an option "dowload this video"... click on it and check you video folder after the download.

Enjoy watching video on your desktop.

Will move this thread to computer section in 5mins

gramci: Moderators God is watching you people on 3D. How long will it take this thread to get to front page?

https://www.nairaland.com/1265974/edo-acn-lawmaker-caught-gun
Would have recommended the thread, but am not sure of the credibility of the source of the story (allaroundgist.com). Would not want to push a sensitive story like that without a well known source.

Can you please find out if any of the major Nigeria news-sites have the story and add the source?

Thanks.

Ikenna351: OAM4J,

I apologise for my previous post here addressed to you publicly, which should have been done via PM or in mod section.

But please, let us (the moderators) in this section treat one another fairly. Lets not give the impression that "My decision here is final". It doesnt feel right to hid your co-mod posts in complaint thread, when those posts are not off-topic. But am not doing the blame thing anymore, but to ask for forgiveness.

I will try and stay out of this thread, so that i dont give the tribal bigots the room to win this war we all have started.

Please, we are good and i pray you accept my apology.

Ikenna.
Apology accepted.

I gave you my reasons already for hiding the post, it was not to malign you or anyone but to maintain orderliness since the said posts were derailing the thread running to more than 3 pages, clouding the on-topic posts without any check.

I have not made any final say outside the rules and outside the issues that were already discussed with Seun, debated here and in the moderator section. What is fair is you not making and enforcing 'new rules' in the section without carrying your other moderators along. I asked you at the moderator section when your 1st post here seems to be suggesting un-discussed new rules, told you the need to discuss any new rule before announcing and implementing them and you said you were not making any new rule. So, pray tell me any final say I made here that is out of order or out of already established rules and concluded debates.

I have nothing personal against you, or what you are doing. I just don't like operating in a confusing and disorderly environment.
