superstar1: It is funny that we pay all the taxes outside the country and protest against them in our country.
Taxes make the citizens more interested in politics and governance. It makes them to hold their governments more accountable, because it is their sweat. People were less concerned in the past because the fund being looted was not from their pockets directly.
Taxation is the path to better governance. I strongly believe.
However, establishing this new set of taxes without the people seeing what you have done with newly introduced ones is insensitive and criminal.
Show us what you have done with Stamp Duty and we can trust you with more. FIRS and Pryesidency listen to the voice of the people. In a sane environment, all what you have said is very apt but in Nigeria, the government can't give a good account of what they have been able to do with the taxes they have been collecting. Nigerians abroad can see the benefits of the tax they pay but here in Nigeria, the reverse is the case. So don't blame anybody that is against the government. |

Happy easter to you all. I have gone through the cic page and also gone through some parts of the thread.. U question is directed to people working in the finance/accounting sector. For someone who hasn't started a professional certification, which btwn ICAN/ACCA would be better to write to win good points for applying as a financial accountant. Also, would it also be nice to apply do a post grad degree here in Nigeria to strengthen ones application if one doesn't have any post grad degree at this time? I just want to make sure I tick the right boxes when I eventually decide to start my application. Thanks house. |

mmsen: People all over the world are treated differently according to status/wealth - if you think that you will be treated like Oprah Winfrey when you work as a teacher then you are moronic.
The judicial system everywhere works for the benefit of those with means - to expect that you will receive the same level of justice or care as an immigrant laborer as someone with political or economic clout is incredibly naive. If you genuinely believe that then I suggest that you read up on Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan - both of whom have been involved in numerous crimes, including drug offences but somehow avoided jail time.
The judicial system is loaded with prejudice and bias - class, race, status, appearance all play into what kind of judgment a defendant will receive. Judges are not robots, they're raised in the same cesspool of bigotry and prejudice as the rest of society. As a result they are not above making foolish judgments based on preconceived notions.
You may feel like you make 'good money' as a janitor but your quality of life will be poor because a significant percentage of your wages will be spent trying to keep the lights on and a roof over your head - I notice that many immigrants are remarkably stupid when it comes to getting excited over wages. The money you will receive in these minimum wage positions is enough to buy food and maybe just enough for a portion of your rent in the big cities - you will not be living well by any stretch of the imagination. Also, quality healthcare is never free, in most nations you will require health insurance.
And the police most certainly can and do harass private individuals. People are pulled over for driving while black, at will. That's not just in America, it happens in Switzerland and other parts of Europe. And if you live in a horrible part of town then your interactions with the police will increase in frequency.
It's clear that many of you possess a completely unrealistic, romanticized vision of foreign nations and have no clue what it takes to build a nation to be proud of hence the obsession with acquiring visas to unknown climes - countries with their own internal problems, prejudices and cultural nuances of which most of you are ignorant. The worst of you are the characters who decide that your life in your home country is so awful that it's better to overstay on your tourist or student visa than to return home and strive to improve your life and add to your nation's well-being. In as much as I would like to agree with you, I would also like to point out your ignorance. Pardon my language. You know that we are living in a failed nation. A nation that has failed it's people and you my friend wants to persuade people that clearly have the means to go for a better lifestyle to stay back in a failed country?? Yes, the West or the obodos isnt all that rosy but it's a billion times better than living in a shithole called Nigeria. Did I hear you say stay back and build this country?? Nation builder, what have you contributed to the development of this country? What projects of national interest have you done? Show us links let's verify your achievements Mr Nation builder.. Pls whoever has the means and has his or her heart set on leaving should leave. Let those that can manage here remain. End of..... |

Let's be clear on this- THE WHITE MAN DOESN'T RESPECT YOU, HE is JUST BEING TOLERANT OF YOUR PRESENCE IN HIS COUNTRY. No matter the smiles and facial expression of happiness, those people gonna forever see you as a semi-human. Most people just sit down there and talk about quality of life in here. I laugh. Your psychological well being isn't distorted when a sales attendant follows you about inside the shop? Even when you know you've got more money to buy stuffs inside more than the regular white guy inside? When police pulls you over for no damnnn reason, just to ask you for your ID? Look, I'd say it here and forever, Until when an African from Nigeria sees Kenya, Senegal, Mali, Burkinafaso and the rest countries as the destination "abroad" and same for African countries, we shall forever remain 2ndclass citizens. Keep living in denial, the rest of you. I make money here but every fucc.cking day, I feel like I don't belong here. I wake up and wanna get through the day as fast as possible. Personally speaking, I think we have hammered too much on "lack of adequate finances" as the major reason why guys choose not to get married. I'm not implying that it isn't a good reason to put marriage on the break but I think finding the right partner is a bigger reason than finance. It's not easy finding a woman that you can confidently say you want to spend the rest of your life with, citing numerous cases of infidelity and divorces. I think one has to be prepared mentally, emotionally and financially. To your question. I'm not close to that age range so I should get married in a few years time. Say 3-4 years from now. Good topic by the way. |

smithmadu: Answers 1. One million is more than enough. Here, I know I handful of distributors/dealers that their net worth is not up to 200k (excluding empties value). Not joking. I started small with 500k. I bought 200empties plus some a family friend gave to me from Jos. It wasn't easy at first, because I was new and naive, also was alittle bit extravagant. Plus you will have issues of breakages and the rest. But if you keep fighting, you will make it. Within 3years, am the 3rd highest dealer in my Town, and also an SSD and still moving up. I get nothing less than 450k when business is low which usually happens during raining seasons. This month my target is above 850k. Have 4workers at shop and two drivers with their conductors. And just 26years. Let me analysis what 1m can do for you I this business... Excluding rent. 1. Register without any fees( except your are Bribing), but doubts that. 2. Have to make a decision whether you want to be RGB distributor (strictly on bottles ie glass) or a One Way Pack Distributor ( take aways eg Pet, can coke, Eva water, 5alive etc) or you want to be both like me. Either of them has merits and demerits, so you have to decide which one will sale faster at your area after your market survey but I recommend you deal on both. 3. When you are done with all the necessary reg, you then have to place an order... Soo with one million let's see... ORDER for 400 empties @ #870 which is #348,000 for a start, order for 300crts of 50cl @ 1210and 100crts of 35cl @890. Well, at your area, if people buy more of 35cl then the revise should be the case. Might still have 200k, then distribute that on the one way packs. But if you want to go for One way Packs (dealership) , then no need wasting money on Empties, just order for what ever you want. Mind you, to make Money means buying more and increasing the worth of your monthly purchase.
NBC rules 1 states that, as a dealer whether SSD or HVO, you are not allowed to sale above company price (but my bro, if you can secretly add 10-50 and sales large number of crates let's say like 100crts per day for a start, you know what it means , talk more of when your daily sales is not less than 400cases. You will be making like extra 5k per day atleast for feeding different from your Incentives. But its an offense to do that sha...
2. Rule 2. My brother, They are very possessive. (No 7up, No BigCola this one na WAR, No Lacasara, Bobo nooo, or malt). But But, business is all about satisfying customer's needs. You know, no one likes stress. Just imagine going into a shop, and get any kind of drink you want, instead of buying some here and going somewhere else to get others. So, when your shop is attractive enough, it means more sales and more profits from other products which are not Coca cola. But have to be smart about these.
In conclusion, these business is Very Good, as long as you are not too extravagant, because you need to be reinvesting to grow the more. Also, if you are able to be meeting the monthly targets by Coca cola, then consider breaking the above two rules. The one mistake I ever made since I started these business was the dude that worked my NYSC to another state, left the business at the hands of Employees for a full year. But came back last year July with a Bang. God is Good I have been thinking of starting this business for a long time and you, my friend have given the best analysis possible. I have a few questions. (1). Like the op I'm currently working but i don't have a million yet but I'm working towards that. At this stage would 500k be sufficient to start including rent and all or should I still work towards the range of a million assuming it would take me two years from today's date to make a million. 2. Do I need to get a bus first before I start or I can start without a bus. And if your answer is no, how then can I distribute the drinks to the buyers. Thank you. I sent you a pm as well. Thanks |

aribisala0: People do not have to invent anything to be good businessmen or entrepreneurs. The process of monetizing inventions is very different from the process of invention. There are enough inventions already to secure our prosperity. Do we need inventions to secure electricity or good roads or hospitals or fire service etc. Do we need inventions to have a national carrier or world class airports. Inventions are not OUR PROBLEM right now. All the inventions needed to improve our lives exist already so net us not get things mixed up. The World Chocolate industry is about $100 billion , a few years ago KRAFT foods BOUGHT CADBURY .Kraft is America whilst Cadbury was British neither country grows a single cocoa tree. What are the innovations in that industry. Nigeria's problem is not innovation. Though people may choose all kinds of elastic definitions. The truth is we are VERY IGNORANT OF THE EXISTING TECHNOLOGIES and this is evident in our workmen and labourers and the training they receive. We see this in our buildings ,roads etc. What does innovation have to do with asking 1000s of people to sit an exam in a stadium? Meister, teach me how to walk in your ways . I want to read the type of books you read and watch the teachings you watch. Your common sense/wisdom is unrivalled. A follow back would not be bad sir. Enjoy the rest of the day. |

Well it depends on the age and stage of the two parties involved. As for me I don't think I can handle such a girl cos my mind would always be outside and I would start needing more and more female attention to make up for what's lacking in the relationship. I have been and I still have girls like that but I always put them aside cos as a grown guy I would need grown up ladies that have curfews exceeding 6pm. To each his own anyways. Good evening. |

There is a little possibility that it would lead to anything serious, all things being equal. As a Nigerian guy, benefiting favourably or unfavorably from this Nigerian economy, you tend to have a lower chance of getting that relationship to the alter cos girls wouldn't want to date for long and wait till you make it. But hey, if you have made it already or you feel both of you can handle whatever life throws at you at this stage then go for it. Good luck. |

PushPlay: Nobody says you should work yourself to death.
It seems to me you are getting over dependent on what she'll probably bring to the table which to me is wrong.
As a man, you shouldn't think like that and if i were in your shoes, i'll let her know how ambitious i am. So ambitious, her family wealth or personal income wouldn't matter in the long run.
I really don't know your financial state right now but at this stage of your relationship, which i believe is still at the early stages, matters like this shouldn't be a topic of concern.
What you should focus on is how to build a strong relationship based on common grounds.
If that doesn't work out then you can as well move on.
This to me is primary, matters of finances and related issues are secondary. If you get the foundation of your relationship right, the other aspects would be easy to build on.
In the end, you just have to provide what you can and she will augment if if she wants.
If she doesn't, then fine. She can't take any other thing from you as long as you provide the basic needs of your family.
Food, shelter e.t.c. Sir/madam.. The lady in question didn't sound like she would ever "want" to augment. With the way the economy is set up right now, anything can happen to anybody in the blink of an eye.. God forbid you sir should lose your biggest source of income and your wife doesn't want to assist.. How would u feel sir.. Please read again... That lady isn't going to change for nothing.. Common grounds would never be reached.. Just my humble assertion. |
