My friend i see only one option here and just one....which is to take your chances, since staying back wont guaranty anything either why not just give going to the states a try... I understand all you said about hustling but you still need to give it a try....lemme share my experience with you, maybe that would motivate you a lil
When i got my PR visa in December 2014...i had all i needed to travel since my brother were willing to support me but i had to think deeply if to get married and file for my wife or just travel and then come back after i have really settled down in Canada( this could take between 1 to 2 years or more) because i can only cater for myself alone....after much thoughts, i decided to face life head-on...i got married (registry) and in 3months got my wife's visa too....usually a single PR( permanent resident) applicant should travel with 11k canadian dollars and two would be about 15k dollars but all i had was just 5k US dollars for the two of us and the money for ticket is still there ooo....just one day i told myself i am leaving naija....i dont care whatever happens at the border( becos not having enough for the two of us is enough reason to send us back to naija) i bought our tickets (looked for the cheapest "maroc airline"wink and came through one of the tightest security airports in canada (Montreal) but i made sure i got loans from people to put in my naija account and had my ATM card with me just incase they ask at the airport for the remaining money.....i declared the correct amount i had on me (5k US dollars) and they just asked if we had where to stay and we said "yes" and that was it.
Not that everything is now very easy but i can say i save myself a good two years of waste because if i had come here without her, it would have been more time wasting!
So please just give the best try and God will do the rest for you. The main problem is already solved and that is your tuition....please proceed!

Niko hw u take apply for this PR Visa

Lol as if that helps..man I'm so done with that jungle called Nigeria, regret why I was even born there, thank God for naturalization I have a new country and identity I can proudly identify with. And for the Igbos still in that accursed region called North, maybe this will serve as a warning to start thinking homeward, your life isn't worth sh.it there and this applies to every Southerner as well...una dey carry one Nigeria for head pass even people wey fight civil war to keep it...any Igbo who is still investing his money and business in any part of the North at thr expense of the East will only have his/her self to blame when your lives get snuffed out like a stray chicken on the street, as much as I hate to admit this, yorubas are the most peaceful, tolerable and civilized people in that country, and this is coming from a hardcore Igbo boy...they have a muslim population of roughly 40%, but not once in all my years in most parts of the Southwest have I heard or seen them kill christians like those barbarians up North.

YOU COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER!

So this thread Don get part 3? Oboy! The ministry is really moving to the permanent site oh..

I greet all of una..
I just want to add two things,
1) don't underestimate the importance of Deutsch
2) if you know you were are an ajebutter or are still an ajebutter while you are in Nigeria, prepare to drop that lifestyle.. Get ready to work hard.. Believe you me, there's no better place to earn money in this world as a student than in Germany.

Once again greetings my people, God go do am for una, make we populate this place and make the Germans know say altho it's unusual to them for a black man to be their bosses in the office, it's not uncommon when that black man is a Nigerian wink

One love peeps!

E get as e be my brother but God dey with us... Some schools in aussie do accept credit transfers from what i have been gathering and reading on school's website but finishing the prog here is also a good idea as you pointed out that the cert is acceptable all over the world, so its a real deal. I think there is another thread for the skilled workers program.

Alright, will look em up. Thank you.

My oga sef won port go the greener land... It's truely greener from what i've gathered. If you wanna wait till after Msc, then any of the routes should be good. The gurus go talk more sha, i left here for a long time, but i am following bumper to bumper now.. How that side bros?

Oga Mi I dey oh. Walai boys need to make plans oh. This deutschland de get as e be. So me Wan start to dey plan the next point where I go plot my graph go. What do you mean by waiting till after Msc? Ain't that the best thing to do?! I mean I stand to lose nothing na... And I could still work with my German degree there as the good thing about a German degree is that it is recognised all over the world. But if there's a way to do it without finishing my Msc first please let me know. Also does this thread contain information about the skilled workers program too...? Or it just deals with student visa issues?
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by Obiwannn: 7:59pm On May 12, 2016
I have heard a lot of good news from very many different sources, that I can no longer say it is a mere rumour, that the ground is very green on this side.

Now for someone who is already out of the country doing an Engineering MSc in Germany, and wishing to finally settle either here, in the US or in Australia, I can only but ask if the ground is truly green on this side of the diaspora, and what might be the best way to pursue immigration that would finally lead to settling down here- a Bachelors' PG, a Masters' PG, a PhD or the skilled-workers visa program?

And Yes, I am gonna go read the whole thread, in fact as someone who likes paying attention to detail, I plan on consuming the whole 9 threads and noting down tips and pitfalls in my jotter, but I just need someone to give me a little hint, that would serve as a push or source of inspiration if I may put it that way so I can start planning for life after MSc.

what field? chemical engineering?
Education / Re: I Applied For MSc But Foreign Supervisor Said School Is Accepting Me For PhD by Obiwannn: 3:29am On May 05, 2016
bayooooooo:

1. It is NOT about your qualifications; it is about his INTERESTS. Since he will pay for part of your education(maintaining you as RA) from his research grants, he is looking for something in return. As a PhD student, you are MORE likely to get him papers than a masters student. Besides, if you do well, you will also write a thesis which counts for something. So primarily, it is more about his interests than your qualifications. My take is if you decline the offer for PhD, he would likely drop your file. Nothing to gain, since after two years of masters, you will be gone.

2. A degree in Industrial Chemistry is sufficient to embark on PhD in Chemical Engineering especially if you have taken courses that major on different Unit Operations. So your PDG is a further confirmation that your background is sufficient. The nature of PhD is such that you don't know what your research would lead to and the knowledge require to complete it might even be far from what you have learnt. You might design something that requires a physicist to examine, a microbiologist to experiment with or a computational chemist to validate. A high quality PhD work often involves elements of collaboration and that's why many published works include as many as seven authors. So, don't be afraid of what lies in the program.

3.Generally in your first year, you will take classes that are relevant to your areas of interest. Often, you take these classes in consultation with your advisor. So, you will be fine.

4.You need to do your homework before leaving Nigeria for Canada. Examine his group. How many people are currently in his group? When folks graduate, where do most of the people in his group usually go? Where do people in his group usually get published? What is the average number of years it takes to get PhD in his group? If he is an emeritus professor as you have mentioned in one of your posts, you want to know if a Post Doc is running his group, if he still comes to school regularly? Those are the questions you need to examine carefully.

5.International students are often carried away by big names. You can't blame them. But the best folks to work with are the ASSISTANT PROFESSORS. They are working assiduously to get tenured and as such are more inclined to publish any of your works. Therefore, you tend to have more publications with Assistant Professors fighting to get tenure. In addition, you see them in lab, offices everyday including weekends. So, you tend to learn more on how to troubleshoot equipment, design, or even synthesize clusters in some cases. But they can be micromanaging too much. However, if you work with a well known professor, there is no motivation to publish your works except it will get into a top quality journal and some of them are sitting on many papers written by students who graduated almost a DECADE ago! So you want to weigh that carefully.

6. PhD in the west especially in engineering and sciences is not a joke. It is rigorous and there will be moments that you would be down, moment that would absolutely love it. Make friends, attend conferences and enjoy!

My question for you is why Canada? Is the school well ranked in Chemical Engineering?

Nice exhaustive post.
Where would you rather he went if not Canada?

I'm also considering a PhD when I'm done with my MSc in either Canada or the US, but I really do want to work first, and get some experience, as I would want to find a particular field which really interests me in industry and become a specialist in it, say like Industrial PhD. I'm not one who really likes lab stuff although I like research, albeit these days, I've been very lazy doing things not inside my study curriculum. Then there's still the big question of "after a PhD, what next?" Is it easy to secure a Post Doc after? Cos I know chances of finding a job would be slimmer cos one has narrowed his ability or suitability to be considered by diverse industries in a particular field, say Chemical Engineering for example.
