safarigirl: her thread was not the sole focus. It was just the inspiration. The main focus is on the insitence that women must manage evryone that comes to them.

Inspiration meaning, what she said led me to compose this thread, it's not a rebuttal or a backlash, it's just an opinion inspiredd by something else I.e this lady's thread. It wasn't her entire thread that sparked it, it was the comments after. The whole "even if you want a tall man, you can just manage one that's short."

She didn't need to put it the way she did, she failed to think of pros and cons and rather than tell women, "it's okay to compromise on certain things" she said "stop loooking for the tall dude, he's not coming"

The fact that he didn't come for her, doesn't mean she has any right to start up a tall-guys bashing thread (which is what she did) as far as she knew, tall guys are mean and unfriendly and aren't husband materials. She'll be shocked I grew up around short men and they're far worse than any tall one I've met.

Once again, this entire thread isn't about debunking her claims, it was just kickstarted by some of her points
alright then, I now understand you better. smiley

Breaking News: some one just sent me a link that confirms that shekau is dead. How true is that?
http://www.gurusloaded.com/at-last-boko-haram-commander-shekau-has-been-killed/

Finally the big iroko has been brought down and Nigeria will soon begin to experience peace again, after a long while, courtesy of the activities of heartless Abubakar Shekau and his Boko Haram boys.

Gurusloaded.com gathered that multiple sources in and around Borno are confirming that Nigerian military air-strike in the Konduga area has sent the dreaded Boko Haram leader to his grave. News of the death of Shekau and some of his top commanders in the latest battle with troops in Konduga is spreading.

Confirming that Shekau has been killed, one of the residents said: “Look, this picture is being circulated after the attack in Konduga. If you know Shekau very well, you will know he is the one in this picture…

“We all know him very well. Many of his commanders were also killed during the attack. We learnt that some of them that were caught alive are held in the barracks.

“The remaining ones are those attacking people now. They have gone wild, but we were also told that the soldiers are in pursuit of them. Our prayer is that they would all fall and our state can experience peace again."

Shekau’s reported death is also contained in the account of some of the survivors of an attack of the sect on Mainok on Friday, as they said they were afraid of returning to the town “because we are told the insurgents are mad as a result of the killing of their leader, Abubakar Shekau, in Konduga.”

Reports reaching Tribune in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, indicated that over 300 people were killed when Boko Haram attacked Mainok market on Friday in what was believed to be a retaliation for their leader’s death. They attacked when villagers were in the peak of trading on the market day.

A local, Modu Jakana, who narrowly escaped that attack, told Tribune that the insurgents came in from all angles, “shooting the people as if they were exchanging fire with the military. We don’t know how we escaped, but we were so lucky. They were so determined to kill everybody. I saw so many corpses while we were running for dear lives. At the main road, vehicles that were on top speed also killed so many people as there was confusion everywhere.

“This morning, some of our people told us that over 300 people,
including some of the insurgents, were killed because we learnt that the military came and engaged them in a fierce fight. There is calm, but we won’t return to Mainok.

“For now, they said calm has returned, but we cannot go back because these people may strike again. They said the people (Boko Haram) are mad, following the killing of their leader, Abubakar Shekau, during the attack in Konduga.”

A top source told Gurusloaded.com that Nigeria military authority is trying to confirm the development.

jmoore: There is no stupidity in the thread that inspired you to write this. I guess lack of comprehension is the reason you made such conclusion.

Anyways, you are free not to settle for less.
Bàng on point!! This OP thinks the woman said "settle for less," which she NEVER did. People can't even understand a post before they critique it.
Romance › Re: Why Nigerian Ladies Should Never Settle For Less by ochon:
I'm still wondering why the OP in the thread that lead to the birthing of this thread received so much flak for her thread. Did you bashers read that thread at all? As in, read it slowly, assimilating the post word by word? Because it seems to me most of y'all didn't get what the OP(on that thread) was saying.

Safarigirl, Onyiridike NEVER said ladies should settle for less, she never did!! She said ladies should not be "obsessed" with men's height as a PRIORITY for marriage. You need to check the meaning of the word "obsessed." She's basically saying don't miss out on a good man because he didn't meet up to your "height scale" you've made a MUST criteria for a man you will marry. And she wasn't making it a must, she's just giving an advice. You can choose to STICK to your choice or not, your cup of tea. She talked about missing out on a good and successful man because she listened to naysayers discouraging her even though she liked him.

What that lady is trying to say, is "sometimes you've got to compromise" on certain things. She never said "settle for less." They are entirely two different meanings (I'll explain with a former post of mine from my former diary later on in this post). The truth is, You, I and everyone out there MUST "compromise" at one certain time/stage in our lives. It's a must!!

"Compromising" doesn't mean settling for less. Growing up (even now we're all grown), we all dreamt of a good life, a life of riches and affluence. A life where we'd have to cross our legs on a couch, eat all day and live like kings. A life where we have mansions, drive the poshiest cars, date the finest men/women. A life where we're paid in 6 figures. All these are wishes/dreams. But guess what? At the end of the day, few get to have it such way, majority will end up "compromising" and living their lives as they see it while still hustling to make it big. Most of us dream to be a don like Mike Adenuga. But guess what? Most of us will never get to live that life. So we will work and make sure we are "at least" successful to enjoy the basic amenities of life. It's called "compromising" not "settling for less."

Before I explain with a diary update of mine about what "compromising" and "settling for less" means, let me paint a clear picture with this example. Most of us, if not all, wants to get paid handsomely from their first job; say N200K per month. That's the general wishes. But how many of us get to find such jobs? What we've at the end of the day is people "compromising" and going for the moderately-paying job while seeking for a better paying job. Such people had to compromise to build up their work experience and get better jobs in the future. Which fresh graduate that dreamt of getting paid "N150K" a month will see a "N90K" paying job for a month, and say "no o, I must not settle for less, I must stay unemployed till i get a N150K paying job?" Your guess is as good as mine.

Now to explain what "compromising" and "settling for less" means, here's an excerpt from a diary I used to keep.

I must advice you though, nwunye'm(my wife), if you don't like the things you saw in or heard about me, and you know you can't "compromise", or can't live with me, please say NO to me and spare our unborn children the harsh reality of growing up without the love of both parents living together under one roof as one family. You know I hate divorce so much, though I support it. By "compromising", I don't mean settling for less all in the name of getting married and end up regretting for the rest of your/our lives. Let me elucidate what I mean by "compromising" and "settling for less".

SCENARIO 1(compromising): let's say the physical attributes/endowments I look out for in a lady I wanna marry/date are hourglass shape/curvy hips/big succulent bóobs/thick áss/tall in height embarassedembarassed. But on dating a girl, I found out she compliments me well, has the inner beauty that can keep a man and I see our future together but she has no shape or slightly curved shape/non-curvy hips/moderate boóbs/small or moderate áss/average height. There's no chance in hell I'm gonna let that lady go because of those aforementioned attributes which does match my IDEAL 'physical attributes' I seek in a woman. So I'd have to compromise and put a ring on it/date her.

SCENARIO 2(settling for less): let's assume that you don't want a man that abuses ladies be it physical or emotional and I'm that kinda man(God forbid bad thing, iseeeeeee angry ). You can't stand a man that beat ladies and yet because of marriage, because you wanna settle down for reasons best known to you, you chose to settle down with me(settling for less); Maybe because you've been raised up in the african way that makes it seem that an unmarried woman is disgrace to the society or because you have been brought up to think that marriage is the highest achievement of humans and so you must get married even though it's crystal clear that the marriage is heading for the rocks and will sooner or later crash. Or maybe because your friends are getting married, so you must marry too and therefore settle for less by marrying a man that will box you up like tyson and slam dunk your body like micheal jordan in his prime days. Sorry to say it this way future wifey, but IWU IDÏOT(you're an idíot) of the highest order!!. I won't take back my words cos only an Idíot will go ahead to marry such a man or hope that she or love will change him in the long run. Sorry to burst your bubbles lady, sometimes LOVE IS NEVER ENOUGH. You've got to be kidding me if you think such men change on the basis of LOVE. Forget the tales you've heard, it doesn't work that way. Very very few of those kinda monsters change. So I repeat, if after dating me, you don't like what you see in me, or know for sure that we'll have a turbulent marriage that will clìmax into divorce, please for the sake of our unborn children, say NO to me and find the man that fits into your facet. I won't hold it against you, I'll understand.

P.S: Your issue about the stigma women face in Nigeria has nothing to do with the former thread. This is a whole new discussion which you should bring up in another thread for us to trash it out. And yes, I believe women are facing some stigma when it comes to marriage in Nigeria, but that's another topic entirely.

One minute, it's "undoubtedly the best cake" she's had in years.

Shortly after, one other girl brought a pack of juice and a fruit cake for me.
"All these for me? Thank you very much." I collected and pounced on my snack hungrily.
That was undoubtedly the best cake I've had in years. I'm sure you know how sweet free things taste??
And when reality set in, it all changed to --- "the stúpid juice and tasteless cake!"

"You guys should have told me when I came in or posted your rates! I didn't even beg you people for the stüpid juice and tasteless cake!" I retorted angrily.

Naijasinglegirl: Either Missy Eliot's image is staring back at me on the mirror when I paid them to make me look like Rihanna's twin or they are giving me a Bance's haircut when I asked for Miley Cyrus's haircut. That's how incompetent they are.
I wouldn't blame any of them though. Its all my fault for patronising mediocrity. Whenever I draw up my monthly budget, I tend to leave an embarrassingly meagre amount for hair styling.

One other thing I noticed about these mediocre salons are their terrible hygiene. Its either the hairdresser is trying to wipe my face/neck with one foul smelly towel or she's releasing her Mangrove Savannah forest armpit in my face! Ewwww.
These hairdressers act like they took a blood oath never to shave their armpits. Or are they trying to rear wild animals there? If they can't afford a machete to clear that bush, its best they stay off those sleeveless dresses before they choke an innocent customer to death.
Halfway through the prep process, I called one of their attendants and asked how much a perm cost without their relaxer.

"N5000"

"Jesus Christ!" I exclaimed, wriggling my feet from the pedicure guy grip.

She told me my bills would amount to N12000 when they were done. 5k for the perm, 5k for the pedicure and the most shocking part of all, 2k for the snacks.
I just wanted to pee the juice on his face and vomit their stupid cake into the pedicure bowl.

emperorchedda: This is interesting. OP just know your situation aint the worse, bunch of gals here have done way more than you but the hypocrisy in the female body system will restrict them from openly admitting. How I wish half of NL gals will come clean like you and behold we will see another side of the girls we have been striving to 'catch'
Don't term it 'hypocrisy' please. Not every member is alike, and most people won't reveal their séx lives on NL. Most people keep their offline lives, offline. And Hypocrisy exist in all genders. It has nothing to do with female gender alone.

Sometimes, many girls that'd have loved to come clean with their secrets on NL, will have a rethink, because they will receive bashings from both the male and female gender. Séxuality section paints a perfect picture. A male writer receives accolades from his story(ies)'s followers, but once a female sèxuality writer writes hers, the hypocrites, which are usually boys, will rear up their ugly character to call her a "whòre" and whatnots. Talk about being two-faced. undecided

@MizMyColi, thanks for the mentions. wink

@Annkay, that's a touching story. First off, I'm glad you don't have your pics on, lest some judgemental Nairalanders use it against you. As you can see, some "sanctimonious" members have started with the subtle "blame" game already.

Secondly, I read where you wrote about what your family's thoughts and actions would be if they get to know about your past sexcapades. My advice is, don't tell them. Yeah, you read right. Some secrets are better left unsaid. If you know you are STD's free and healthy, then keep your secrets and move on. Unless it's inevitable that the truth will come out. Your past is your past, we all make mistakes. No one is perfect. What's of utmost importance is, you'd use the fallen bricks of your past, to build a strong foundation for your bright future. Learn from your past, but don't let it dictate your future. *hugs*

Lastly, if you don't have a turtle shell for the criticism that might come from members, I'd advise you to ignore any post that you find insensitive or a subliminal shot at you.

Nairaland General › Re: Nairaland First Page Comments : Then And Now (pics) by ochon:
So True @ITbomb.

NL's FP is getting preposterously annoying!! The current unabated desecration of NL's FP threads is because of the following:

1. Juvenile kids having access to the internet. Even grown men with kids' brain are in this category.

2. The free MB by our epileptic and inept network providers like Emptyhen, Helltel and Helltisalat, which give these kids access to NL.

3. The introduction of the "like" feature. Many forumites now book space(s) and to comment for "likes" and not sensibly to the subject in discourse. You'll open an insightful thread and the next comment you will see is, "I no know wetin to comment. Today's my birthday, make una click like for my comment abeg."

4. The final cause, is the new NL FP thread notification app. This app has caused more harm than good because spacebookers, illogical and illiterate kids, like seekers; are now furnished with easy access to the next updated FP thread and rush enmasse to book space(s) and type crap at the end of the day. Just last week around 3am, I logged in online after not being able to sleep to see a new thread hitting the FP. I was reading the thread and saw someone booking space by that time and so decided to keep refreshing that page to see what he'll type at the end. Do you know what this simpleton typed when he finally commented? He wrote: "finally I don make FP. My struggle don pay off. I can now sleep in peace. Una good night o."

I couldn't believe my eyes. For an insightful thread, a human being stayed awake to post that tripe? huh

If only these annoying strata of men-dependent, rich men-chasing women could read and practice this, and develop some iota of self-worth:

1. the spate of women bashing, both offline and online will reduce.

2. The respect for the average Nigerian woman, will increase.

3. The physical abuse women suffer will reduce because a woman that has nothing to offer his man but her neanderthals and cooking skills, will be seen as a property and can used as a rag any day. When a man buys a girl all her clothes, pays almost her bills, buys her phones, pays her rent, he'll automatically take the girl as his property and can use her anyhow. It's not rocket science. But when a man sees a well-established and independent woman, he can't take her for granted because he knows she can cope without him. One of the reasons why women stay in abusive relationships is because if they leave, they can't survive on their own, hence they stay back and take the beatings.

This intelligent post by @Standd, is one of the reasons I've sworn to marry an employed, independent, educated woman. I don't care about the complaints of some men that successful women are disrespectful, egostical, blah blah blah. . . That's bullshît. Many independent and successful women are good lovers and once you love and respect them, they'll choke you with love and respect in return.
