Predominantly Nigerian Church, yes and I was even in one over the weekend but want to limit the Church circuit for now and grow in the Word
The white is sceptical about God, the abuses Nigerian churches have done in His name make faith look like a scam and many just tag along embracing religion without checking the manual [Bible] for themselves like our not reading the manuals of our new gadgets before operating or software's terms and conditions
None the less, won't be too far from Church itself wink wink
I haven't experienced racism per se [well except from some Chinese 'foreigner' folks, more on that later] but the nauseating attitudes of some Nigerians
I recall my pop telling me that as at the 60's you'd ask someone with 'you fight lion Ibadan' tribal marks in the UK for directions/help and he'd reply pardon like a British man who doesn't comprehend what you are saying
Mandela,I believe, it was who said to communicate with a person, speak in the language his heart understands
For those who follow football, when Arsenal's Eduardo Da Silva suffered that horrible leg break against Birmingham in 2008 no one could understand what he was saying because he was speaking in Portuguese until Gilberto [a Brazilian] was summoned from the bench to help translate to the medical team
Yet Eduardo [a naturalized Brazilian] who was Croatian , didn't speak English nor Croatian when he was in excruciating pain but Portuguese which was the language of his heart though he carried another land's passport
I'm not saying you have to befriend me or give me money because we are fellow Nigerians or Africans but just a wave or smile or a simple hello does wonders in this land where the white man no send you
Listen to Tupac's White man world and understand better
I know Nigerians give drama and sorts of bullshit to the Western world system but hearing Bia [if you are Igbo] or Ba wo ni [if you are Yoruba] or seeing another black face in a sea of white ones does gladden your heart that I'm not alone in this place especially when that black face is one you've said hello to before
But now to see the same black face act snobbishly like say na hin papa crown Elizabeth as Queen and hear him speak through the nose drives one crazy for the Oyinbo man no even send am
I then look and think, no be UKBA this guy/babe wey dey yarn like Britico go queue like me huh huh

Moving to a new country is hard enough but I feel if the above quotes were heeded by this family especially by their son who had computer engineering inclinations, it would have been easier on them when they moved
Even though the guy is not a computer engineer, pray, does he need such knowledge to do through online Internet research for the family? undecided undecided
The Internet is one of the great tools that aid life in the West
Another fact of life there is that the white man plans , plans and plans his daily monthly , yearly projects far ahead of time
When going into a new country, a good rule of thumb is to have enough to survive for at least 6 months [shelter, feeding, medicare, clothing, transportation] without having a job where you are going to
Your accent, qualifications will not allow for easy integration so its best to plan for worst case scenarios whilst hoping for the best
The Western world [esp now in this times of recession] is not a pleasurable place to come to for now expect you know people or/and have access to sizeable funds

A man who obtained a first degree at a time when few Nigerians had the priviledge of acquiring western education, and consequently went on to obtain a PHD .......

A closer look at the president's CV will reveal that he obtained his PHD after he must have left the ivory tower. He taught between 1983-93,probably with a masters degree and then went on to obtain a PHD due to his love for learning. GEJ was never a professional academics even though he had brief sojourn in the academic world......

We as youth should be critical in our thinking.......
If you believe that Ebele Jonathan earned his PHd, then madam Shepopotemus truly has a B.Ed grin grin
Critical thinking, which you rightly mentioned, is a key component to get an MSc ;never mind a PHd

I see they use VOIP [which is as I thought]
However, I don't know how cost effective it is compared to Lebara and Lycamobile which cost 1p per minute [only when you call landlines] while Rebtel is 2.99p
Its only when you call mobile lines it shines through at 3.49p though Lycamobile is close at 4p when you are on a bundle
Even at that, the valuedial I asked about quotes 3p per minute for calls to Nigeria mobiles
Yet I'd love to find out if ANYONE CAN TRULY RECOMMEND THEM seeing I'd been hearing of Rebtel far before I ever thought of getting a Tier 4 visa undecided undecided undecided
Its not just lapping up to their advert and getting scammed eventually

How will there not be fraud?

NIGERIA WILL NEVER PROGRESS, that is the sad realisation I've come to
Yes we have major tribal differences but two destructive attitudes are now paramount

The second is 'One day "god will answer my prayer " when I, my father, uncle, brother, cousin, friend, neighbour, ex girlfriend's mother, father in law, grandmother, former class teacher or former phuck buddy etc will become a public official. Then I have made it and will come and do thanksgiving because "god" has blessed me shocked shocked shocked undecided undecided'

What led to my initial comment was the info that FirstBank was charging 255 naira per pound, so I was wondering why GT would do us strong thing if the info were correct. It's all good though. By the way, how far with your account opening? Which bank did you pick?

The above has been the unspoken speech coming from the Ebele led government from day 1

Last GTB transaction was 266.98
Late July to November usually has higher rates
Probably should ease off in the new year

kellyemms: Plz who know of burdon house private accomodation in sunderland......
It seems you are really keen on a Tier4 visa
However my advice would be you DO NOT make any financial commitment esp about housing until your feet are on ground and you have physically seen what you are paying for
Search out online as many properties as possible that are within your budget range but have all necessary amenities [See this NUS checklist I posted here https://www.nairaland.com/826936/uk-student-visa-tier-4/204#18279228] then bookmark the five to ten most promising ones which you will inspect once in town
Having a laptop to view it helps but you can as well print out and take the addresses with you when leaving Naija
Also do know that there are many properties available which are not listed online but pasted in university cafés, corner shops etc and some which you may only be able to find with the help of your university website
Wish you well

Please I have been thinking of what to do with my remaining school fees in my account and maintenance fee. Do I have to open a domicile account though I prefer changing it in my bank (GTB) and taking it cash as am travelling since I intend paying the remaining part of my school fees immediately I get there to earn myself some percentage of the school fees which is 100k+. Please those with previous experience should kindly advise me on the best thing to do. Thank you.
=
adamasjosef has advised you rightly
adamsjosef: I think the best thing to do is to go with ur card. Carrying cash has it's disadvantages though. Other than the charges, i still believe doing a transfer is better. =
I came in with £1500 and 2 different Nigerian bank cards [Mastercard and Visa so that if one fumbles, the other should work] and both work well here
Only that I withdraw the max amount to minimize bank charges [around £550-560 = 150k daily limit based on current exchange rate now] and deposit in my account here
Also I don't withdraw on the VERY day I need it because Nigerian network wahala might mess you up grin grin grin grin
That apart, if you can pay up ALL your tuition before applying helps cos it indicates to the visa officials you are really serious about coming to study
Also do know that carrying above $10,000 raises money laundering red flags over you, cards are mostly what this white folks use unlike we Naija peeps
Have you also thought of what will happen if that money gets stolen or missing while you are still sorting out accommodation without which you will not be able to open an account over here? undecided undecided
