Does anyone know the old version of Ayakata bongo produced by Heartland Music? I'd like to listen to it but I can't find it anywhere, although i remember the lyrics go like:

"sui ji mente ahh, ebelebe egbuole o eh, aru amaka gi, Ayakata bongo eh."

I have made some tweaks to the 1700 map. Adding the Owo, Ijebu, Ekiti, and Ondo kingdooms.

Snake [something something] to give birth to something long.
My Guess: Snake cannot help but give birth to something that will also be long.
Red Hat wearing in Ngwa is post-colonial, and less than 1% of Ngwa men actually wear it.
I think he said "Snakes don't divert from giving birth to long things".

Anyway, what you said here is very correct. Not all Igbo people wear "red hats", although, it has become a political symbol for us.

Here are some examples of what other Igbos wear. The first one would be what someone from Nri would wear, the second one would be what someone from my side would wear, and I'm guessing the third hat (minus the isiagu) would be what someone from Ngwaland or anywhere south of that would wear.

Dear friend Odumchi.
As a researcher, I want to thank you for your valuable input.
Both maps, as your comments are of great historical value.
There are always discrepancies when we talk about these issues, ethnic issues, sensitivities, etc, but their contribution is really excellent.
I deeply appreciate it!
Kind regards!
Your interest and thanks are well appreciated. I did nothing more than restating information that others took the time to discover. Keep on reaserching cool

Nri was the first Igbo group to adopt the four day calendar. Nri mythology has it that when the founder of Nri went on a journey to discover the mystery of time, he was greeted by four spirits named "Eke, Orie, Afor, and Nkwo" and upon returning to Nri, he used their to form a calendar.

This calendar system, along with many other Nri-made ideas (such as the ozo/nze title), spread to other parts of Igboland during Nri's golden age along with Nri priests and pioneers. It's also noteworthy to say that the further you go south from the Nri-Awka region the less you see these characteristics of "Nri presence".

Well, the general idea is that any community that uses Eke, Orie, Afor, and Nkwo as market days was in some way or anther influenced by Nri. With this in mind, there are some places that don't use this calendar or ozo/nze for that matter.

@odumchi I'm not here. To argue over controversies which have been rehashed a million times in the past.the fed recognizes ekpeye cool as a seperate ethnicity so who's the bigger .      here.                        the  here.
@abagworo I repeat abiriba and ebiriba are not pronounced the same  .abiriba is pronounced as ahbreeba while ebiriba is aybeereeba with e as in the vowel a, or as in the word hay.
As for dressing ekpeye do not wear tiger head they wear woko, doni.the workout can be worn under wrapper the ikaki bite as kalabaris call it or is worn over trousers. Some men use the red cap like the igbos while most others wear the bowler hat aka resource control. Our beads are also heavier and tend to be pinkish while igbos wear much smaller / thinner beads which are red in colour.usually one layer. In ekpeye land both men and women traditionally wear beads while in igboland (some parts) women did not wear neck beads although
Customs have changed.
huh
When was I talking about Ekpeye or with you for that matter? (trying not to sound hostile)

CultureRe: Why Have We Been So Far Behind Whites: ? by odumchi(mod): 3:36am On Mar 06, 2012
The main reason for the lack of technological advancement in Africa is geography and location. Sub-Saharan Africa was separated from the rest of the human world by the Sahara desert and the Atlantic and Indian oceans thus it was bound to lagg in the technological leap.

In the middle ages (when Europe was at its worst), Africa was at its best. Kingdoms like Ghana, Songhay, and Mali thrived and boasted cities of populations exceeding a hundred thousand people when Europeans lived in small towns. Universities and educational centers mushroomed in West Africa at a time when the average European couldn't fully recite the Latin alphabet and Africans were clothed in luxurious fabrics and cloths when Europeans could barely clothe themselves.

However, Europe experienced its "awakening" right about when the Muslims had conwuered the Byzantine empire and blocked of European access to the riches of the East. In order to respond to this, Europeans (with the help of gunpowder borrowed from the Ottomans) turned to the seas and studied ship-building techniques and started building ocean-going vessels and modern militaries. In this age, Europe also began looking backward and "rediscovered" the ancient works of the Romans and Greeks in an attempt to revive learning. It was in this age that Europe grew and established itself as a continent to reckon with. Meanwhile, we poor Afrocans were oblivious to the advancements being made across the desert and over the seas. We finally realized all too lately when the Portuguese landed in Africa in the 1460s and by then it was far too late. . .

Northern Nigeria would have been too complex (not that the South isn't) and time consuming. If I find enough information and maps on the North, I will make one.

PhysicsQED:
Your "900 CE" map pretty much excludes Ife and it excludes whatever polity made Sungbo's Eredo (maybe the predecessor of the Ijebu kingdom?). A little more familiarity with even the limited archaeological work that has been done in southern Nigeria would be useful before anybody made a thread like this.

Also the "1500 CE" map is definitely not an accurate account of the territorial extent of some polities. Among other things, if you (or whoever made the map) were familiar with the existence of  Igala political suzerainty up as far as Nupe, you (or whoever made the map) might have drawn the map differently. Don't know how accurate the "1700 CE" map really is either.

Apart from the fact that multiple kingdoms were excluded, there are also the extremely questionable "influence range" borders drawn for each of the states for all of the different maps.

If I were to elaborate on all of my objections to each of the maps, it would be a very long post, so I'm not going to bother seeing as how this is nothing official.

This single post is as much as I'm going to say on this topic because I don't really see the purpose of this thread except maybe to revise history or provoke controversy.

Adios.
To elaborate on what others might now know is why threads like this exist. In the maps, I purposely excluded Manu minor kingdoms and states and chose to show only the major ones. I also purposely excluded those that I had a limited amount of information on.

As for the influence ranges, I judge them to be more on the near side of accuracy. Of course there's no intention to provoke. Information withheld is information lost.

Oh ok.

There was no need to address it because I already clarified it !

You have not added anything new.
and you seem to be ignoring substance for shadows
Which is that if a town has a population of 10 today that does not preclude if from being the origin of another with a population of 10000 as we have seen in Brazil and the US.

The issue is not of genetic heritage per se so don't confuse yourself.

Again It seems you have comprehension difficulty or are  or mischievous.

I do not believe anything about EDO people as I MADE CLEAR TWICE.

I MADE VERY CLEAR what my point is

ONCE AGAIN I HAVE NO VIEW ON EDO BINI IGBO  ORIGINS

I HAVE NO CLUE

MY POINT IS WE CANNOT RULE IT OUT OR IN BY LOOKING AT CURRENT POPULATIONS
CultureRe: Can An Average Opobo Indigene Speak And Understand Ijaw? by odumchi(mod): 8:24am On Mar 04, 2012
Kojiek:
I was born and brought up in Rivers state. Having interracted deeply with the Opobos, the language they speak is pure and undiluted Ndoki (an Igbo dialect as in Akwette, Umuagbai, Azumini, etc). Example; money - ikpei,
bottle - olilo
woman - nwaenyere
man - nwaekere
me - ikem
you - ikii
he/she - ikea
goodmorning - isalachi
give me - nyebam
sit down - kuso odu
one - oli, The list is inexhaustible. As per names, they bear Ubani (Ibani) names such as Belema, Epelle, etc. Of which they themselves find it difficult to give their meaning. Majority of them (Opobos) bear English names. Few answers pure igbo name such as Ifeoma, Kelechi, etc. So as an Igbo, one don't need any other medium to communicate with someone from Opobo.
This is interesting. As I was reading the Ndoki words, I found them very similar to those found in my own dialect. It doesn't strike me as a surprise since Bonny and Opobo were founded partly by Aro settlers. We call Igbos from Bonny and Opobo "umu Aro Ubani".

In the thousand years between 900-1900, kingdoms were established, empires were forged and people were conquered. Although these maps may not be accurate, they clearly show us the evolution of the major states of Southern Nigeria.
