PhonesRe: Is A Blackberry Better? by odumchi: 4:33am On Aug 21, 2011
It depends. Over here, blackberry is getting old and phased out and us being replaced by newer touch screen smart phones. Blackberries replaced sidekicks, touch-screen smartphones replace blackberry. But it all depends on what you like, if you're looking for a new hot phone you should step aside from blackberry but if you really like it then go ahead.

A few Anioma towns like Agbor had contact with Binis but with the Yorubas, no.
No Igbo group had direct contact with the Yorubas.

the picture was not taken during the aba women's riot, and indeed has nothing to do with it.

besides, the link it was taken from is right there under the photo.

the women are wearing rubber slippers- that wouldnt have been possible back then. The footwear isnt that old.
I provided you with the link that states it was taken in that era. Do you have any evidence that disproves it? Besides Ogbos didn't trade with Binis and Yorubas. I told you they traded with other Easterners. Here's a link of Igbo trade routes prior to 1900.

Here's a link of where the pic is from. It was a picture taken in 1929 of the Igbo women of the Aba women's riot. Abi it's still Yoruba/Bini huh? Aniova

As per there being no interaction between yoruba and igbo in ancient times, dont know about that.

Clearly there was interaction between ife and benin and benin and igbo.

There are also the lukumi people who are anioma, and aniomas surely had interaction with igbos back then.
Anioma people are Igbos. They did not have much contact with the Edo people, rather Igbos traded eastward with Ijaws, Ibibios, Efiks and etc. Lukumi people were not significant neither are they Anioma. Their population today Is less than 1000 so what would it be 300 years ago? Probably they were not founded. Anioma are an Igbo people west of the Niger.

^It could be a loan word though i doubt your explanation is correct and neither do i know why you're developing hives at the thought of the word being yoruba.

Fact remains the phoneme gb is more prominently featured in yoruba language and that's why igbos derisively call them Yoruba.
How am I developing hives? I didnt even say "Yoruba" or anything about them in my post so why are you insinuating such. Your fantasies exist only in your head. And you say that my explanation isn't correct. I as an Igbo have given you the explanation on how it works in Igbo and you as an outsider are saying that im not correct? The nerve of some people. Please Tpia since you know Igbo more than I do please come and explain it to us.

Also I don't see it feasible that the word could have been transferred from Yoruba to Igbo since the two groups didn't have much contact prior to the colonial era. It might be a universal thing such as the smile. After all iT connotes the same idea as shutting or slamming something, making it official much like in English we say "Period" or "Final".
CultureRe: Igbo Women And Social Status by odumchi(mod): 5:19pm On Aug 19, 2011
@ Tpia

I won't argue with you. But Igbo women wore such cloth in the olden days and wore "ola" hair beads at important or significant events. Women of high rank in society (queens and etc) also continue to wear such beads today. My point is that picture is Igbo. I rest my case.
CultureRe: Igbo Women And Social Status by odumchi(mod): 4:04pm On Aug 19, 2011
You don't have to agree of you don't like. Ignorance is bliss. I'm an Igbo telling you facts from the inside and you still won't believe. Take it from me that such items were present in Precolonial Igboland. I don't want to derail so let's get back to the topic.
CultureRe: Igbo Women And Social Status by odumchi(mod): 3:46pm On Aug 19, 2011
They can be made out of dogs, porcupines, hedgehogs, etc. Besides that woman in the photo is Igbo. Yoruba women do not wear such wrappers.
CultureRe: Igbo Women And Social Status by odumchi(mod): 3:28pm On Aug 19, 2011
I just told you in Igboland it is made with animal hide not horses.
CultureRe: Igbo Women And Social Status by odumchi(mod): 3:21pm On Aug 19, 2011

Those pictures are of Igbo women. Igbo women wear double wrappers after marriage and single prior to marriage but after the coming of age. Horsetail has always been a part of Igbo culture even prior to the colonial era. Traditional rulers, women and etc use it. However it isn't made with horses in Igboland. It was made with other materials such as animal hide not necessarily horses. My own relatives who were born anytime from the late the late 1800s to early 1900s have photographs of themselves in similar dressing with the prop.

So far I've not seen anything Yoruba or non-Igbo on this thread so let's keep the focus on inyom ndiIgbo.
CultureRe: Gbam! - Who Invented It? by odumchi(mod): 3:09pm On Aug 19, 2011
Gbam is an Igbo speech article symbolizing concordance or support.

Example: "Igakwuriri ugwogi (you must pay your bills)" "Gbam! (Yes!)"

What part of that won't be discussed here don't you get? Don't be redundant there was another thread in which Igbo population of Lagos was debated. Focus on the issue at hand and don't attempt to derail the thread.

@ your slaughter if the Igbos part. It's not possible or feasible. Your dealing with nearly 30 % of Nigeria. Besides such talk should be coming from you last. As an Itsekiri, your people can be wiped out overnight. But I don't want to discuss that.

You've shown your true colors. No longer the "I love everyone" act abi? Now you've fallen back to tribalist well well, no be so? I just said that wont be debated on this thread. There is another thread on NL in which the 2006 census of Lagos was contucted and out of 17 million Igbo was 43%. That has already been debated, and pages upon pages have been created, that wont be debated again. Feel free to look it up.

What do you know about Ohaneze? I doubt you know anything muvch about them. This is what I'm talking about. Ohaneze isnt your problem, it isnt your organization, so dont worry about it. Dont worry about anything other than yourself, our people and etc. I think your half life of relevance on this thread has expired.

alj_harem:
SMH

andre is saying 4 million

ohaneze is saying 40-60%

you are saying 7.3 million

lagos and the people of lagos are saying there were no single igbos in the state duing he count that is why u are putting burden on the state after the migration back

So according to u an andre, I should accept the falsehood u are feeding people without facts

REALLY I PITY NIGERIA cry cry with people like u, andre and ohaneze

can u please tell us where u got the 7.3 million from ?

enough of this nonsense, To Nigerians out there

Please and please do not believe this rubbish of billions of igbo crap all over the internet

@ Alj Harem

This thread is getting very redundant. I thought we already moved ahea dof the Yoruba greater than Igbo debate? I thought we already had this thread finished? So Alj Harem why are you bringing up these things again? What are you to gain from posting false information, dabbling your head in matters that do not concern you, and claiming to be a good Muslim?

First of All. Let the Ikwerre/ Ika conversation rest. These people are Igbo whether you like it or not. You as an outsider have no reason to meddle in the affairs of another people. Seriously, I really do not give a rats behind about who's Yoruba or not, or the internal problems of the Yoruba, but when Igbo is mentioned its like a free for all: everyone thinks they can come and speak as they like. That needs to be stopped.

Secondly, the amount of non-Igbo people in Igboland does not reach 50,000. Igboland is the second most densly populate dplace in Africa after the Nile valley whether you like it or not. There are also in excess of 40 million Igbos in Nigeria.

Thirdly, I dont really care what percentage of Lagos Igbos are as long as the 7.3 million Igbos in Lagos are recognized. Focus on the thread. Your contributions are no longer needed since you cant seem to come up with anything reasonable.
