Does anyone even know what this man is saying? This is pure Ibeku dialect at its finest. Music like this makes me proud to be from Abia state. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPSUODu-3zc |
'Nnukwu ewu' means 'a large goat'. 'Nnukwu' means large 'ewu' means goat. |
In omenali ndi Igbo (Igbo culture), the guest is to be offered oji (kola nut) which he will break. The owner of the house is always the last to receive kola when there are multiple guests. The same goes for food and drinks. And also, when a guest meets you during a meal, you must invite him to join you. |
achi4u: biko kedukwanu ihe 'odumchi' putara?O putara 'Odum nke Chineke' (Lion of God). And does anyone know what the name 'Nwankpa' means? I think it's Ngwa. |
'Si ebi' is an incomplete sentence. I'm guessing its from the film "Ka Anyi Si Ebi". Translated, it means 'how we live'. 'Akwaa m iko' means 'I refuse to commit adultery'. |
babyosisi: What's with the Vee Viii VooThat's my dialect. |

achi4u: please can anyone tell me the meaning of,'Odumchi' abughi aha madu na aza o lol. 'Osuofia' means 'legend of the forest' (a man who is widely known in the forest). |
That's very interesting. The nasalization is quite apparent. Ezeagu, ndeewo. |
Onyegecha: Thank you, my dear but basin cannot be udu(musical instrument or water pot) . Even bucket is not ite by any stretch of the imagination. cheersIf you're looking for exact/unique translations, then I don't believe you will ever find any [that are not fabricated]. A basin is simply a deep bowl; in Igbo, we call deep bowls anything from 'efere' to 'udu'. A bucket is simply a cylinder used for scooping. Find any Igbo container that serves the same purpose and call it the same thing. |
I miss the calm, soothing aura of the countryside; the enticing smell of the hawkers' roasted corn; the sweet, honey-like aroma of fresh grass and morning dew; and the all-natural, fresh evening breeze which would fuel or nightly chats. I remember the days when my friends and I would innocently shake fruit trees in the hopes of a delicious treat. More vividly, I remember how we would spend the hot afternoons playing and aimlessly roaming about, and the powerless evenings in the company of wise elders, as we listened to tales of the heroes of old. Chai. Ndaa kwan? Where has all the time gone? |
ezeagu: In Ogawshi axis they had Umu ifuru, ifuru = flower.I never knew that. Thanks. What do they call 'thieves' in your part of Delta? Is it 'ndi oshi' or 'ndi ori'? |
The Central Igbo for pillow is 'ncheisi'. Sleeping mat (rug) is 'ute'. Bucket is 'ite'. Basin is 'udu'. |
Udunmiri ke awho akahu kara aka o. O buu hwe ta. Chileke chehe rumu g'o. |
Antivirus, I believe the answer to your question is "no". There is no language/culture on the face of this planet in which variety does not exist to some degree. Many of these dialects also have dialects within them. For example, American English is considered a dialect of the English language. However, American English also has its own variations (dialects), which in turn have their own. |
Your complaints have all been attended to. |
Proudly representing Abia State. Umu Abia anyi, ndaa inyi? ![]() Aro mmammanu! Ngwa birinu! Ibeku Umuahia muonu! Bende rienu! Ndoki zuonu! Ohafia na Abiriba kaanu! Isuikwuato bukaanu! |
O di amiko. It's a pity. Back then, many of these giant trees were revered for either protecting entire communities by warding off evil, or simply for serving as the sites of shrines and oracles. However, ever since Christianity took root, many of them have been abandoned and neglected, and instead of cutting them down, people let them grow freely out of fear and superstition. The worst is that many of these trees are in strategic locations, forcing people to develop and build under and around them, and every now and then we hear cases like this. I hope others came learn from this incident, because theres absolutely no reason to be living within the vicinity of an ancient 200-year-old tree. |
pleep: Odumichi why havent you banned this somalia9 dude yetCould you please post links to specific posts in which he has been trolling? Thanks. |
Omenali bu omenali. Tradition is tradition. |
eetteh: I've got this old song stuck in my head but have no idea what the second part means, please could someone help translate??"You have done well, Jehovah, you have done well You have done well, Jehovah, you have done well We are thanking you saying you have done well, you have done well, Jehovah, you have done well" |
o'boy:Is that in Igbo Izugbe or Idemili? We call it the same thing where I come from, too. |
nnenna.1:There's the possibility that she could be from Delta (South South) or Rivers (South South), since groups in both states answer 'Elewa'. Anyway, in Central Igbo her first name, 'Oroma', means 'orange' (that is, if I am pronouncing it the correct way), while her last name 'Elewa' (which I am guessing is short for 'Elewachi') means "let us look to God". Going by her name, I would say it's most likely that she is from Imo. |
Thanks for the thorough explanation of Nsofor, Odenigbo. Now, again with my questions. How do you say 'flower' in Central Igbo or in your dialect(s)? |
dtanigwe: Please, I am trying to learn Igbo language, and I want to know how to say "God is so good to me" in Igbo."Chai, Chi emeka" means "God has done so much [for me]". The 'chai' means 'oh!' and is used for emphasis. |
