One of the “prophecies” predicted by Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose last year has come to pass. The governor last year predicted that the senate president who was undergoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) – will be absolved (set free) and dismissed 18-count charges of false asset declaration against Senate President Bukola Saraki. Yesterday, the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has dismissed 18-count charges of false asset declaration against Senate President Bukola Saraki. On May 4, the senate president told the tribunal that he would file a no-case submission, which implies that he is not opening a defence but asking the tribunal to discharge him of the charges because there is no case against him. This was after the prosecution led by Rotimi Jacobs called its final witness and closed its case. On Wednesday, Danladi Umar, chairman of the tribunal, held that the prosecution did not prove its case against the accused person. He said the testimonies of four witnesses presented by the prosecution were discredited, and as a result were unreliable. He, therefore, dismissed the case, discharging the senate president of the charges. The federal government had brought multiple counts of false asset declaration against Saraki. But the witnesses it brought to his trial gave contradictory testimonies.

When Hannah, a native of Benue State, moved in with Matthew a few years ago, she had hoped that they would become husband and wife.

After bearing three female children in quick succession for Matthew, the Tiv native had hoped earnestly that her fourth pregnancy would bring a male child, so that, perhaps, Matthew would do the needful and formally make her his wife.

But all those dreams are gone with the wind now, as the very man Hannah shared a bed with for years has just dispatched her to an early grave after a minor squabble over domestic chores.

Daily Sun gathered that the mother of three, who was eight months pregnant, was beaten to death by her lover on June 6, 2016, in their residence in Lugbe, an Abuja suburb, because she did not wash his clothes.

It was gathered the late Hannah, 30, had spent the greater part of that day at the ante-natal clinic, and by the time she returned home in the evening, she was too tired to do any chores.
Consequently, she had to postpone all the chores to the following day.

Unfortunately for Hannah, her lover, on his return from work, took offence that his clothes were not washed. The late mother of three was said to have explained and begged her man over her inability to wash his clothes on that particular day, promising to do the laundry the next day.

But all her pleas and explainations were like pouring water on a stone. Matthew promptly descended heavily on his lover. He pummelled her ceaselessly, until she gave up the ghost.

A former neighbour of the couple, Mrs. Precious Igbokwe, told Daily Sun how Matthew made life a living hell for the deceased because she gave birth to only female children.

“I lived close to their apartment as a single lady for over six years; we were close neighbours. Though they were not married legally as confirmed by Hannah, she was hopeful for the future. She really suffered much in the hands of that beast,” Igbokwe said.

She recalled that when the deceased delivered her last girl, her lover abandoned them at the hospital and stopped the neighbours from bathing the baby or assisting the mother.

“Thereafter, he continued maltreating them and calling the baby a bastard. He is a sadist. He doesn’t greet or respond to greetings from neighbours,” she added.

As soon as the incident occurred, Lugbe women took to the streets to protest the gruesome murder of Hannah, whom they described as a rare gem.

Speaking on behalf of Lugbe Women Community, Lan Musa, a native of Kogi State, expressed outrage over the death of the mother of three and called for a stop to domestic violence.

Musa, who has also suffered domestic violence, said Hannah’s death was the third incident of women who have been killed as a result of domestic violence in the locality.

She called on government to take a decisive stand to curb the ugly trend.

Similarly, a friend of the deceased, who she visited on the morning of the day she was killed, Mrs. Felicia Zira, told Abuja Metro with tears in her eyes that: “Hannah complained bitterly how her live-in-lover had been maltreating her for years, beating her uncontrollably, issuing threats to her life.”

“I adviced her to report the matter to her relatives or relevant authorities, like Ministry of Women Affairs, to tackle the domestic violence and stop its recurrence,” she said.

Another of the deceased’s neighbours, Mrs. Joy Ogu, said the the late Hannah lived in fear all through her co-habitation with Matthew, who she respected and adored.

According to her, “In a bid to make life meaningful for herself and children, she engaged in menial jobs in a nearby school, where she sneaked out every morning to clean without the knowledge of her husband, through which she was able to save N10,000 to enable her to set up petty business.

“Painfully, when she started selling kerosine and some foodstuff, he stopped giving them token for feeding, leaving her to worry about their upkeep.”

Ogu lamented that Hannah who desperately craved for a male child, did not live to birth her baby boy.

She said: “Our pastor and some members of the church took her to the mortuary, they evacuated the baby before taking her to the mortuary; they testified it was a handsome male child. What a tragic loss!

“I feel so bad that she died a painful death. Why would a man beat an eight-months-old pregnant woman as if he was in wrestling contest with his fellow man?

“Whitish substances were gushing out from her mouth and he saw her losing life, yet he continued beating her to accomplish his mission,” she said.

Spokesman for the FCT Police Command, ASP Usen Omorodion, confirmed that Matthew was in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department, noting that he would be arraigned in court soon.

“He is with us at the State CID for further investigation. However, we would arraign him in court next week for judgement,” the PPRO said.

A 19 year old girl identified as Ayomide Adebayo has been arrested for allegedly dumping her 2-months-old baby in a bush in Ikorodu.

Adebayo who is a secondary school cert holder was allegedly impregnated by one Martins Tewogbade, who lives in the Bariga area of the state.

She then gave birth on April 30 at a private hospital in the neighbourhood, but Tewogbade’s parents reportedly rejected the baby and she subsequently relocated with the child to a friend’s house in Igbode, Ogun State.

Adebayo reportedly approached one Mrs. Joke Fatai, a worker at a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in the town sometime in May 2017 and begged her to take custody of the child. The baby was in the care of Mrs Fatai, until Saturday, June 10, when Adebayo went to withdraw her.

She was said to have tied the baby’s mouth and nose, dumped her in the bush and returned to Bariga, telling people that the child was dead. It was learnt that the baby was found by some members of a vigilance group in the early hours of Sunday in a bush in Ikorodu and was later reunited with Fatai.

Adebayo was eventually traced to Bariga. A resident of Bariga, Yusuf Tolagbe, said an angry crowd wanted to beat up the mother, but for the intervention of a child rights organisation in the area, Child Protection Network.

He said,

“Adebayo’s mother died shortly after giving birth to her. Her father’s whereabouts is unknown. She was living with an elderly man. Last year, the man observed that she was pregnant.

After prodding her, she said it was Tewogbade, an apprentice, that impregnated her. But the boy’s parent did not accept the pregnancy, claiming that it belonged to a taxi driver, who they usually saw her with.”

The Coordinator, Child Protection Network, Toyin Okanlawon, said the mother and Tewogbade had been transferred to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command’s Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.

The spokesperson for the command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the police would work with the state government to ensure the safe custody of the baby, while Adebayo and Tewogbola were under investigations.

A man identified as Okon Ubem, has allegedly killed his wife, Eka Imaobong, after having sex with her in the farm.

The 35-year-old man hails from Ikot-Okpora village in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State.

He was also accused of killing his eight year-old stepson identified as Godswill, at the same scene of the incident.

While addressing journalists, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, revealed that the suspect was arrested on 13th of May, 2017, based on an information by John Bassey, adding that he had confessed to the crime and would be arraigned in court soon.

He said:

“On May 13, 2017, at about 1500 hours, one John Bassey (male) of Ikot-Okpora village in Biase LGA reported to the Divisional Police headquarters in Akpet Central that one of his tenants, Okon Ubem, went to farm where he murdered his wife, Eka Imaobong, and her eight year-old son, Godswill.

“The suspect confessed to the crime and will be arraigned in court soon,”

The suspect who did not show remorse for his disastrous actions said he killed his wife because she allegedly stole his N40,000 and admitted that he murdered his stepson because he insulted him.

He said:
“She stole my N40,000. So, I went to meet her in the farm and killed her. Yes, I made love to her before killing her. I also killed the stepson because he abused me,”

32-year-old man, identified as Robinson Omeje was charged in a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for allegedly killing his 18-month-old daughter, Esther Robinson.

The plea of the defendant was not taken, as he claimed a voice pronounced her a witch and directed him to kill her but the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

The Magistrate, Mrs Theresa Wergba, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case until August 2, 2017

The prosecutor, Inspector Adole Oluwa, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘E’ Police Division, Makurdi, by one Doom Robinson of New Street, Joseph Catholic Church, Akpehe Makurdi, on May 18, 2017.

He then said that the accused wife had reportedly returned from her shop and found her daughter’s lifeless body inside a plastic bucket.

In addition, he explained that during police investigation, the accused person was arrested, and he confessed to having strangled the girl to death when a voice told him that she was a witch.

According to the prosecutor, the investigation into the matter was still in progress and prayed the court for an adjournment, adding that the offence contravened Section 222 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State, 2004.

A soldier has allegedly shot a man dead in front of Command Secondary School Junction By Sabo Express road, Kaduna state.

The man, identified to be Sunny, was packing sand in a gutter in front of the military school when he was asked to stop by the soldier, but he pleaded with him to allow him pack the sand since the gutter is not anyone’s belongings.
He was said to have approached the soldier who got angry and pulled his trigger- which led to an ongoing riot between the Nigerian army and youths in the state.

The roads in front of the School leading to Sabo, Romi and Gonin-Gora have been barricaded restricting vehicular movement.

Policemen and soldiers have also been deployed to restore peace into the area.

Three fraudsters have been recently arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office for allegedly stealing and obtaining over N120,000,000.00 (One Hundred and Twenty Million Naira) under false pretense.

The suspects, Osemwingie Ede Joseph, Idede Stanley and Oseyomwanbor Marvelous were arrested respectively based on a petition received by the commission from a complainant (name withheld).

The Complainant allegedly revealed that sometimes in October 2016, he made payment for a trip in one of the Nigerian Airlines (name withheld) via their website for himself and three of his colleagues from Lagos to Port Harcourt.

Whilst trying to pay, he had difficulty with the platform and decided to call the contact Number on the website.

Then the fellow who attended to him via the call instructed him to proceed to ATM and effect a transfer which he did immediately and transferred the sum N120,000.00 (One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira Only) to an account allegedly belonging to one Oghenetejiri Stanley Idede.

After payment, all efforts to get his payment approved seemed abortive.

It was at this point that he realised that he had been duped, hence his complaint to the EFCC.

Preliminary investigation by the operatives of the Commission revealed that one Success Osemwingie who was the primary suspect alongside his cohorts; Idede Stanley and Oseyomwanbor Marvelous were the syndicate behind the fake transaction.

However, investigations further revealed that there are two others: Francis Otagogo Ojemiri and Uhunmwangho Aisosa Charles, who are still at large.

The fraudsters, including those at large, operated over Fifty accounts in different banks with which they defrauded unsuspecting victims to the tune of over N120,000,000.00 (One Hundred and Twenty Million Naira).

They hosted cloned websites of Airlines and other online services providing organisations, to fleece unsuspecting members of the public of their hard-earned money.

Members of the public are warned through this exposure to exercise more caution while patronizing online business platforms.

The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has reportedly traced a multi-billion naira property said to be owned by former First Lady, Patience Jonathan. The Nation reports the antigraft agency is currently investigating the property and may place it under Interim Asset Forfeiture.

The agency is said to also be investigating the relationship between Mrs. Jonathan and two companies being probed by detectives.


Also, three accounts and three more properties have been put under surveillance by the anti-graft commission in connection with the ongoing investigation of the ex-First Lady. The three accounts belong to Aribawa Aruera Research Foundation; Finchley Top Homes Limited and AM-PM Network Limited. The accounts were uncovered in the course of investigating Mrs Jonathan and Aribawa Aruera Research Foundation.

The anti-graft commission is suspecting a business relationship between Mrs. Jonathan and Finchley Top Homes Limited and AM-PM Network Limited. Preliminary investigation revealed that huge slush funds might have been laundered through the foundation and the two firms.

A report indicated that Aruera Foundation is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) with RC No 22805. “Huge funds were suspected to have been laundered into the accounts of the above mentioned companies and properties worth billions of naira were allegedly acquired by ex-First Lady Patience Jonathan through the aforementioned companies. Detectives were able to track transactions through open source information from interbank settlement.

The ex-First Lady and five others are trustees of Aribawa Foundation. Intelligence from Abuja Geographical Information Service (AGIS) revealed that a multi-billion naira property, Plot No. 1758B06 in Mabushi Area, belongs to the foundation. The said property is not such that a state Permanent Secretary in person of Mrs. Patience Jonathan can afford.

The property should be marked as under investigation and interim forfeiture order be secured.” The ex-First Lady is being probed in connection with three other assets – Plot 96(DO5) in Karsana ; Plot 7109 (E18) in Wasa; and Plot 30 (DO3) in Idogwari. Besides, EFCC detectives have turned their searchlight on the ex-First Lady’s relationship with Finchley Top Homes Limited and AM-PM Network Limited. Another source added: “We have conducted searches at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on the two companies whose accounts were earlier frozen alongside that of the ex-First Lady over $5.8 million which was reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

They were among the five companies and one Esther Oba said to be having a total sum of N7.4 billion in six banks. But their counsel Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN) succeeded in unfreezing the account on April 6 at the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun. This is a new investigation. It is too early to return any verdict on the two companies because our detectives are looking into their books.”

The source cited Section 7 of the EFCC (Establishment) Act to justify the investigation. Section 7 of the EFCC Act says: “The commission has power to (a) cause any investigations to be conducted as to whether any person, corporate body or organization has committed any offence under this Act or other law relating to economic and financial crimes. (b) Cause investigations to be conducted into the properties of any person if it appears to the commission that the person’s lifestyle and extent of the properties are not justified by his source of income.”

The latest probe of Mrs. Jonathan has raised the number of properties linked to her to 17. According to the EFCC source, about 13 properties were initially associated with the ex-First Lady in Port Harcourt and Yenagoa.

The assets in Port Harcourt are former Customs Service Officers Mess; two duplexes at 2/3 Bauchi Street; landed property with blocks at Ambowei Street; three luxury apartments of four-bedroom each at Ambowei Street; and Grand View Hotel on Airport Road.

Other assets in Yenagoa include two marble duplexes at Otioko GRA by Isaac Boro Expressway; Glass House on Sani Abacha Expressway, which is housing the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board; Akemfa Etie Plaza by AP filling Station, Melford Okilo Road; and Aridolf Resort, Wellness and Spa on Sani Abacha Expressway.

The Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammad Sanusi 11, on Wednesday sacked his Senior Private Secretary, Alhaji Isah Bayero, over what was described as alleged sabotage.

A former pilot with the Kabo Air, Isah Bayero was appointed as an aide to Sanusi in 2014 when the former Central Bank of Nigeria governor became the emir to succeed the late Ado Abdullahi Bayero.

However, sources close to the Kano Emirate Council, Isah Bayero was sacked after he was accused of leaking information on the expenditure of the council’s funds to the media.

The leak led to a public outcry and the eventual investigations into the finances of the Emirate Council by the state Anti-Corruption Commission and the Kano State House of Assembly.

Emir Sanusi II came under public criticisms, following unsubstantiated allegations that he inherited N4bn from the late Emir of Kano, His Highness, Alhaji Ado Abdullahi Bayero and squandered it.

Following the allegations, the Emirate Council promptly summoned a press conference, during which the Chief Finance Officer of the Palace, Walin Kano, Alhaji Mahe Bashir Wali, described the allegations as false and baseless.

a source in the office of the palace secretary confirmed that the sacked palace secretary had been antagonistic to Sanusi, adding that he was allegedly responsible for most of the leaks coming out of the palace.

It was also gathered that the emir’s younger brother, Mustapha, who is the Falaki of Kano and an in-law to the late emir Ado Bayero, had been picked as Isah Bayero’s replacement.
