Bigotry on the increase. NL is now a house for ethnic fights. Guys, its not right. All this tribal e-wars won't help anyone. To be honest, every ethnic group in naija can be stereotyped but its stupidity to generalise because there are pple that are exceptional.
Some peeps, you will never know where they are from until they tell you. No ethnic group is perfect. All are flawed. In fact, I think its foolhardy trying always to defend one's tribe or ethnicity. For me, I take facts, see that I don't exhibit the negative traits and ignore the insults.

It was a stupid thing to do. So the president couldn't pay that visit long ago or take more positive stance in bringing the girls ? It took a small girl to talk sense to him? Its just a damn shame. Insult to rationality.

Why can't we see beyond PDP and APC ? how is it so difficult accept as reality that neither have you in mind. Its a like a match between them where the ball being kicked around is the masses. Who is fooling who? many PDP supporters are blind to powers behind gej , you think he is the one pulling the strings in bringing opposition parties down? PDP killed democracy since obj's tenure when he registered multiple parties thus weakening the possibility of a strong opposition.
Behind gej are powerful, greedy and wicked pple orchestrating events and policies to favour them. Gej must carry out pdp 's ambitions.
APC could have been a viable opposition but it messed up and showed it has no difference in agenda and purpose with the ruling party when it opened it doors to criminals. APC became a failure.
Its easy to hide behind ur phones and systems and type bigoted statements but surely a break up is not as easy as we would like it. there is too much hate spread by ethnic and religious bigots already that no region would be peaceful in the advent of break up.
There would likely be problems between west and east, middle belt and core north, core north muslims and core north christians ,west with ijaws and ijaws with other Niger delta minorities. Hate is already everywhere and down deep.
unfortunately, the solutions to our problem would be difficult to accept not to mention implementation. Its real democracy. one that has federating states and power reduced from the centre.
Those who then want an islamized state can have it in their areas.
Those that are dynamic would grow at their pace.
PoliticsLast President Of Nigeria? by ogbronx(op): 12:18am On Jul 15, 2014
Goodluck Jonathan: Nigeria's last
President?
By
Chido Onumah
conumah@hotmail.com
President Goodluck Jonathan did not
disappoint during his recent appearance
at the 66th United Nations (UN) General
Assembly in New York. At least, he said
what he thought the international
community expected him to say. The
focus of his speech was global terror.
“We must win the war against terrorism
because it infringes on the fundamental
rights of all peoples to life and to live in
safety from fear,” the president said.
“For us in Nigeria, terrorist acts, rather
than intimidate, will only help to
strengthen our resolve to develop
appropriate national strategies and
collaborate even more closely with the
international community in the fight
against this menace”.
Regrettably, there is little to indicate
that the Jonathan administration has
plans to develop an “appropriate
national strategy” to deal with terrorism
in Nigeria. But while Nigerians are used
to the rhetoric of the present
government, I am sure his audience at
the UN expected to hear, not empty talk,
but the practical steps the government
has taken to tackle terrorism in Nigeria.
His audience would also have been
interested in hearing what the
government was doing or has done to
address other issues, including poverty,
unemployment, and lack of access to
healthcare, all of which “infringe on the
fundamental rights of all peoples to life
and to live in safety from fear.” But it
did not happen and it wasn’t surprising.
Under President Jonathan, we have
come to expect more rhetoric and less
action.
For those looking for proof, you need
look no further than the president’s first
media outing a few weeks ago. If there
was any hope of an early resolution of
the lingering political and social crises in
Nigeria, that hope was dashed by the
president himself during his national
media briefing. The president’s remarks
were a bizarre mix of platitudes and a
frightening lack of appreciation of
history; a bitter foretaste of what to
expect in the next four years.
“Nigeria won’t break up” was the bold
headline the morning after. The
president had offhandedly dismissed
insinuations that Nigeria could
disintegrate by 2015. His reason,
according to press report: “The country
that will disintegrate, you can get it by
the study of the psyche of the people.
During the civil war, the South
Easterners were the bulk of members of
the proposed new country called Biafra.
Now, the Igbos have investments across
the country. Go to the South-West, go to
the North. As small as my village is,
Nigerians from North, East and West
have bought land. People who want to
disintegrate will begin to shift back into
their own geo political zones. The
behaviour of Nigerians shows that we
are not really going to disintegrate.
People look at us because of our ethnic
diversity and begin to predict that we
will disintegrate. We will not
disintegrate. I will not preside over a
country that will disintegrate and I
assure you that from now till 2015
Nigeria must remain one united nation.”
I don’t know whose psyche the
president has been studying, but to
dismiss the threat of an imminent
national implosion on the basis that
people are not “shifting back into their
own geo political zones”, would have
been laughable except that it is
misleading and terrifying. But even at
that, the reality does not support the
president’s position. Across the country,
there are thousands, if not millions, of
displaced people fleeing violence and
palpable threat to their lives. Many of
those who have not moved may have no
place to go having lived in their current
locations for decades. Nigerians leave
their homes everyday not knowing what
to expect. Not since the civil war has
there been this level of anxiety and
insecurity.
The reality is that Nigeria is on the
brink. The frightening truth is that the
“war” this time will not be between any
clearly defined ethnic nationalities. It is
for this reason that we should be
concerned.
There is nothing “sacred” about Nigeria.
Our country, like many of the 54
countries that make up the
Commonwealth of Nations, was the
result of British commercial and
expansionist interests. However, unlike
some other countries born out of
colonial or imperialist conquest, Nigeria
has managed to survive for 50 years.
We shouldn’t take our unity for granted.
Nations survive and maintain cohesion
through concerted efforts, not wishful
thinking.
I hope President Jonathan does not
think that by saying Nigeria won’t
disintegrate, that is enough to secure
the unity of the country. There are
ominous signs all around us. Indeed, it
is a miracle that Nigeria has survived
for so long considering the decades of
abuse?
The president was blustery about his
single tenure proposal, saying: “I have
no regrets at all (in proposing the
change). The issue of single tenure is to
stabilise the polity because you have to
stabilise the polity to stabilise the
economy.” Expectedly, there was nothing
on corruption, the major issue that
threatens to grind the Nigerian state to
a halt.
For a regime that talks about a
transformation agenda, one would have
expected the president to be more
forthcoming on a blueprint to tackle
corruption. Clearly, it is not likely to
happen, not when he has refused to
make public his asset declaration.
Hopefully, now that it appears the Code
of Conduct Bureau (CCB) wants to act,
starting with the case against former
governor of Lagos State, Ahmed Bola
Tinubu, it is expected the CCB will
accede to request to make public the
president’s asset declaration. This is
one issue the mainstream media in
Nigeria has refused to touch. Its
criminal complicity on this matter is a
great disservice to the country.
Of course, we can agree on one thing.
The current crises, whether it is
infrastructural deficient, the collapse of
public institutions, or the lack of
national ethos, did not start with the
Jonathan administration. But the job of
a president, particularly one at a period
of national emergency, is to show a
sense of urgency and courage in
confronting problems. These two factors
are lacking in the way the country is
currently being run.
I did not vote for President Jonathan,
but that point is irrelevant. He is
president of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria and holds the destiny of 150
million people in his hands. For that
reason, I want him to succeed. His
failure does not bode well for the future
of the Nigeria project.
But for a man who claims he had to
walk to school without shoes, President
Jonathan, now the proud owner of all
manner of designer shoes, doesn’t look
like a president in a hurry to “walk the
talk”. He many well etch his name in
history, although for very tragic reasons

deesquarediddy: I refer to Nigerians who are not politically biased as people who will under no circumstances allow their political affiliations/interests becloud their judgments.

Also, I did not at any time make that statement that we can’t find a better candidate among our politicians. I only talked about the current people in power (PDP) and the potential people who might serve as alternative (APC, the opposition members). In all of them you will find common qualities… greediness, corruption, cluelessness regarding how governance should be delivered except for few. These politicians (PDP and APC, the two giants as case study) lack internal democracy if you study their party structure and activities, so how do we even expect them to perform.

So, are you saying there are no politicians outside this category (the ones we don’t see as big fish, the ones we see as mere technocrats/professionals) or politicians from parties we see as unpopular who will outperform these thieves? We tend to look at only candidates from PDP/APC/LP as credible when we talk about whom will lead this country. Are there not other politicians? We forgot that majority of members from these political parties are all the same people in power since 1999. (Changing from one party to another)

Nigerians, funny people…we crave for change, yet we see the political jobbers as the real politicians, we support them and vote them into power and cry for 4 years thereafter. When people like utomi contested for president, how many of us voted for him? Remember Late Gani Fawehimi once contested the Presidency, how many people voted for him? Wole Soyinka has a registered political party, with patriotic and nation building ideologies, what is its membership strength? We will continue to get the kinds of leaders we deserve. We need to change our ideologies and a lot of re-orientation is required on the part of the citizenry before we can get it right in this country.
Your last paragraph revealed your personality as simple, intelligent, realistic and objective . These are the traits lacking in many of Nigerians making the country stagnant.

The same way corruption, ineptitude and bad governance can't be hidden from the world. A good govt of takes charge and don't give excuses for its failure.

Abuja Declaration (1989)
The Abuja Declarion is the outcome of a conference
of the African countries of the OIC in 1989 and
launched by a communiqué of the Islam in Africa
Organisation (IAO) founded during this conference.
The Islam in Africa Organisation (IAO) is a Nigerian
satuted Islamic organisation, an initiative of the
Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
Dr. Usman Muhamad Bugaje is the current Secretary-
General of the IAO.
the man The organisation was founded on 28
November 1989 in Abuja ,[1] Nigeria, with the goal to
win the whole of Africa for Islam. The statutes and
goals[2][3] are ratified in 1991 and this marks her
formal definitive founding. The founding-communiqué
is also called the Abuja Declaration . [4] Startingpoint
for the conference is the fact that Africa is the only
continent with an Islamic majority and therefore
Africa should become completely Islamic. [5]
The plan contains a lot of points that are also
common for Christian missionary organisations as
relief and economic progression.
A battleplan was composed to Islamise Africa with
some less innocent points in that decision: [6]
"To ensure only Muslims are elected to all political
posts of member nations".
"To eradicate in all its forms and ramifications all
non-Muslim religions in member nations (such
religions shall include Christianity, Ahmadiyya and
other tribal modes of worship unacceptable to
Muslim)." (the word Christianity is underlined in the
declaration)
"To ensure the ultimate replacement of all western
forms of legal and judicial systems with the sharia in
all member nations before then next "Islam in Africa
conference."
"To ensure the appointment of only Muslims into
strategic national and international posts of member
nations."
The execution of this strategy can be recognised in
countries like Nigeria , Ethiopia and Sudan. In Nigeria
more and more provinces choose for the Sharia
leading to heavy protests of Christians, oft resulting
in violence and bloodshed to both sides. In Sudan the
government chose in 1983 for the Sharia, in 1991
sharpened with death punishment for apostasy from
Islam.
Funds: The government of Nigeria has donated 21
billion US-dollar conform an IAO-communiqué [7] as
donation to this "Islamic Development Fund".
Organisation
The IAO consists of four main organisations: [8]
the General Shura', the highest authority consisting
of 43 members from all over Africa and the Diaspora.
the Executive Comité .
the Secretariat housed at Abuja, (Nigeria).
the Necessary organs to the realisation of the
goals.

Am sorry mister, what education do we all need than emancipating ourselves from the hatred and ignorance that continue to pervade our minds daily as evidenced by contributions on this forum? The people who comment here daily with lots of warped contraptions are supposed to be leaders of tomorrow? Is this not a forum that's suppose to portray Nigerians reasoning capacity to the world and all you see are people who just speak even before reading or understanding the topic even when serious matters that affect their daily lives are being discussed? When will we ever get serious to confront the issues that plague our lives and those of our future generations? A forum like this is supposed to churn out mature debates and views that can alter the way our so called leaders treat matters of governance but has sadly been reduced to where sucklings spew all sorts of rubbish immediately after removing their lips from their mothers nipples. I can bet my last penny 90% of commenters on this topic never read up to the second line. And sadly Seun watch the trend degenerate daily maybe because it doesn't have a direct impact on his pay packet yet.[/b]

For years now, nobody knows those sponsoring this insurgency.
It has spread hate everywhere and even taking other sublime dimensions while tearing this country apart east/west,north/south and north/east etc.
If this trend continues, 2015 and beyond might be worse.
why the name boko haram meaning everything western is taboo? An agenda that can not be achieved? Could it be so that insurgency would linger till the country disintergrate?

CultureRe: Crab Mentality by ogbronx(m): 12:41pm On Jul 13, 2014
It ain't just jealousy or envy .

Crab mentality, sometimes referred to as crabs in the
bucket, is a phrase that describes a way of thinking
best described by the phrase "if I can't have it,
neither can you." The metaphor refers to a pot of
crabs . Individually, the crabs could easily escape
from the pot, but instead, they grab at each other in
a useless " king of the hill " competition which
prevents any from escaping and ensures their
collective demise. [1][2] The analogy in human
behavior is that members of a group will attempt to
"pull down" (negate or diminish the importance of)
any member who achieves success beyond the
others, out of envy, conspiracy or competitive
feelings. [3]
This term is broadly associated with short-sighted,
non-constructive thinking rather than a unified, long-
term, constructive mentality. It is also often used
colloquially in reference to individuals or communities
attempting to improve their socioeconomic situations,
but kept from doing so by others attempting to ride
upon their coat-tails or those who simply resent their
success. [4]
The popularity of the phrase has made accusing
opponents of crab mentality a common form of
defense against criticism, whether the criticism is
valid or not. [5] Depending on the context, this tactic
may fall under the logical fallacy known as
argumentum ad invidiam, or appeal to envy. [6]
While the reason for crab mentality is thought to be
jealousy, and a paucity of resources leading to
perpetual competition, it also appears to be a
behavioural trait indulged in despite people knowing it
to be disadvantageous to them. [7]

CultureRe: Crab Mentality by ogbronx(m): 9:57am On Jul 13, 2014
I guess the writers and producers of the series "boondocks" could enlighten us more. The series is dedicated to using humour in educating the black race on this crab mentality thing. There is even an episode that clearly animated crabs in a basket as a blackman was trying to explain to another the fundamental flaws of the black race.
Some peeps here in nairaland see it as only envy or jealousy. It goes beyond that. Its a collective mentality that kills ingenuity and growth. Its not just the envy of someone's success as most of you put it. Its crab mentality that makes you attain some level of financial, position, and political success and can't stand someone else trying to reach there.
Its deep and has long been the bane of the black race.
@ op, good and interesting topic. This should educate some of use instead of PDP and APC nonsense. In fact, both parties are filled with pple of this negative mentality.
Christianity EtcRe: .:: Non-tithers Are Criminals ::. by ogbronx(m): 9:28am On Jul 13, 2014
MarkMiwerds: Blessings.

Another good reason to stop tithing is because of what the Apostle Paul told the Christian Gentiles in Galatia...

Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

If you are going to submit to the Mosaic Law of tithing, then, according to the above verse you are required to keep the whole Law or be under a curse.

Also, for one who is married to Christ Jesus to submit to the Law is equivalent to that one committing spiritual adultery. (do you really want to be seen as an adulterer?) How can I say this, one may ask? Because the Apostle Paul taught it.

Romans 7:1-4 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Note in the first few verses that Paul shows how a woman married but going to live with another man is adultery. He then reveals that we, as the Bride of Christ have no business going to the house of the Law.
I am impressed. These things aren't revealed to you because you are smart, its God's Spirit that reveals truth of the bible to you. Many Christians don't know their faith or really understand grace and find it difficult to explain to pple from other religions and atheist thus making them look like blind pple. Keep this up bro and may God in His infinite wisdom reveal more to you.

Acidosis: I cannot categorically answer YES or NO. smiley

But I can boldly tell you that "Satan is using Islamic extremists and other terrorist organizations to fill the world with fear, so that the love of many shall grow cold. This will create a world where Satan will have more control of the world, because God is Love and God works with faith and fear is the opposite of faith and love. The Devil is purposefully raising up terrorism to create the kind of world in which his Antichrist will one day rule. The other consequence of terrorism is the reactionary acceleration of surveillance technology to combat terror attacks before they happen. But I believe that one day this kind of technology will be used by the Antichrist himself.

In order for the Antichrist to rule, he will need a world where technology records the movements and habits of the worlds population. Terrorism is creating the need for governments and private enterprises to build and use such technology today, this will ultimately destroy privacy in peoples lives, as privacy is where terrorists hide.

In an attempt to stop terrorism, governments are creating a world where surveillance technologies scan populations from all around the world and this will ultimately lead to a world where people take an ID mark in their bodies,

see Revelation 13:16-17
16 He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead,
17 so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. [/b]

The Antichrist himself will set himself up as God and will ban all religions that proclaim him not to be God.

He maybe seen as a hero by a world that is sick to death of religious wars and religious based terrorism. This will of course ultimately includes persecution of the Jews and all who have true faith in God.

See Revelation 13:7
[i]7 He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation."
Lots of Christians don't know this brother. The book of revelation scares them when it's already happening. Even pastors don't preach this. Islam united with world govt are going to be the persecutors of Christians bfor the glory of our Lord Jesus is revealed and His govt of peace enthroned.

CultureRe: Reliance On Divine Intervention: An Excuse For Laziness by ogbronx(m): 11:16am On Jul 09, 2014
Our leadership is nothing to be proud of but all we do is pray for divine intervention instead of
getting up as a people to elect good persons who can do the job rightly and take necessary actions
against those who abuse their mandate. Its why I don't pray for Naija during service or with my family. How will God after giving us in some measure, his kind of intelligence, do for us what we can do for ourselves?

This is the problem with Africans. Its mental laziness. Mental poverty has had more adverse effect on Nigerians than material poverty. As a matter of fact, The former is the cause of the latter. Even here on Nairaland, objectivity is scarce. Sentiments results to parochialism.
It is usually a very disheartening thing to those who are conscious of the negativism of the average African. Take for example, that a book is written on the fundamentals in of why Nigeria and Africa is so degenerative, that book would likely not be widely read by us.
We hardly think of the greater good of our country and continent or leaving a legacy but selfishness to very high extend that after stealing billions, we still fight for a couple of thousands. its really sick.
I often wonder if over the times, a clandestine organisation wanted our education to fail, wanted our pple to be so repressive so that they go unchallenged with their nefarious and selfish aims for themselves and their future generations or cause.
Its important we seek knowledge and be objective about our collective future. Let's look for substance rather than form from our politicians.
In Fella's voice; suffering and smiling.(ignorant)
