phildon: For the Niger-Delta militants, ask yourself what the amnesty programme means to you. I am a northern xtian and I can authoritatively tell you that the Mohd Yusuf's BH was supported by few and that was still during Yaradua's regime. However, I have never come across any muslim that says he likes what the present BH are doing right now.In fact, they no longer believe they are muslims. My candid opinion is that we should shelve our sentiments and address this issue. SSS should do there work and stop complaining like this, because they're the ones that receive the tax payers' money and not the community.
i might agree that BH may have started to loose some followers among the muslim community, but it can be said that at one time and even now they enjoy some protection and support from the muslim communities. I watched on tv how people of a community came out to show their support for boko haram even after the kano bombings. It still appeared on some of the dailies then.

Early january, i had a discussion with a southern muslim concerning this issue of boko haram and all he could say was " leave them, we can not do anything about it "
just imagine, a yoruba guy for that matter. The SSS guy is right.

even after hitting your dad he could also fall in love with you, very fine. But his proposals should have come atleast

1. 2months after your dad has assumed full recovery.
2. After he has footed the bills, and shown great remorse for the incidence.
3. After he has mingled well with every single member of your family, and they have also accepted him as a friend of the family.

Then, you also would have kmown who he trully is, infact you would have fallen for him before he even open his mouth. Na you go dey pray make he talk.

Evil Brain: We part amicably and move on with our lives.
I think I mentioned condoms and safe sex in my post. Plus, I wouldn't ask a girl to have an abortion. Facing up to your responsibility is part of being a man. If she decides to have one herself it's a different story, but I'll always be willing to handle my business and take care of my child.

If I can't trust a girl to remain faithful, then there's no way I'm going to marry her. Besides, thanks to all the premarital sex, I'm now pretty good in bed. My future wife will have no reason to complain.

Do you have any evidence to back this up? It's very easy to make this kind of claim but I think you'll find that reality disagrees with you.

I think I mentioned that I'm an atheist. That statement means nothing to me.

you atheist are very self centered, it has to be the way you want it. You've had soo much sex that youre now good at it. While someome somewhere is also having very good sex with your future wife and she's now also very good at it. What do you care? She Probably had had one or two abortions, not your problem.

You'll never force a girl to have an abortion, but you'll take care of the child just incase, you didn't say you'll marry her. You allow the child to grow wit both of u seperate.

I don't have an evidence to backup the spiritual part, you're an etheist, you'll never umderstand.

Evil Brain: You don't need god to do anything. There are plenty of married atheists, muslims, buddhists, mormons, pagans, wiccans and devil worshippers who are able to remain faithful to their spouses without any divine assistance. OP seems to be suffering from the "my religion is right and everyone who doesn't follow it must be a sinner" delusion.

Having said that, as an atheist, I don't believe that "fornication" aka sex before marriage is wrong as long as you do it responsibly. If you practice safe sex (condoms every single time), treat your partners with respect, don't screw around on them, don't lie to them just to get them into bed, and you handle your business if your girlfriend gets pregnant, then you're okay from a moral point of view. On the other hand, if you're telling a girl that she's the only one for you and that you're going to marry her while simultaneously banging someone else on the side then you're as bad as any adulterer.

The idea that two mature, consenting adults can't have sex just because they don't have a local government kpali sounds ridiculous to me. So does the notion that I need a pastor or imam (or the invisible, undetectable being they claim to represent) to validate the a relationship based on love and respect between me and my babe.
you veryyyyyy wrong.
Sex before marraige is wrong and not moral. Nomatter the amount of love that exists between you two.
If after series of sex you end up not marring her so What happens ?if she gets pregnant and you just have to abort, what happens? You can't be perfect in life and can't control everything.
What if you're new wife has had somuch sex with her bad boyfriend only to complain that your sex is bad? You know exactly what would happen when they meet again.

Spiritually, sex draws you backward. What should have been working in your success would now be drawing you backward.

Lastly, God does not approve sex before marriage.

@aribisalao, your post has said it all. I need not say more.
Lot of good contribution, but let me add.

The whole of this problem of gazzing is this belief from the fulani's that land is from God and should be given free. Nigerians would struggle to host the fulanis if they pay for the the land for gazing. If at all a gazing land is set aside, the fulanis should be asked to pay or lease such land from the owners. Only then would you discouver how tolerant and humble they could be.

some cities you said. Roads properly planned out, not this 197x road we're talking about. Yes !! Some cities with more environmenally friendly roads shee ... And we are not talking about those kind of cities here, but same kind of people, with almost similar situations.
Has you govtmnet made provisions for other situational road users or workers.
PoliticsRe: Army Investigates Colonel’s Violation Of BRT Lane by oiseworld:
femionasan: Bulls*&t, so cos he is a soldier we he should be allowed to break the law? He is wearing a uniform means its an emergency? What planet are you from guy? The army is meant to protect the sovereignty of a nation from external forces which means protect our land, air and sea borders from foreign aggression. Whatever they do within their barracks is their issue as long as they leave that place they are bound by the laws of the land. Now tell me how this man who i know is an accountant and is not a war veteran nor been to a war on an emergency?
this Brt lane issue will happen again, again and again, and will continue to happen as long as that lane remains free most of the time.

Some security organizatioms should be allowed to use it, atleast it will reduce congestion for other road users and moreover, the Brt's still struggle the two lanes left with lagosians most of the time.

Again and again, i didn't say an offence was not committed. I said it should be looked into.
PoliticsRe: Army Investigates Colonel’s Violation Of BRT Lane by oiseworld: 4:41pm On Jul 19, 2012
femionasan: Please tell me what is senseless about the law? A lane dedicated to transporting Lagosians to and from different destinations, in a city populated with approximately 18million people? What percentage of these 18million people own cars? Dude think things through properly. Now your argument about allowing emergency services preference on that lane makes a whole lot of sense but i will also like you to show me a link to the law guiding the usage of the lane and show us where the omission for emergency services exists.
PoliticsRe: Army Investigates Colonel’s Violation Of BRT Lane by oiseworld: 4:30pm On Jul 19, 2012
naptu2: Equality before the law is one of the core principles of democracy/rule of law. Unfortunately, we've just emerged from a long period of military rule and it seems some people still have a hang over.

Soldiers and other public officers could be given a leeway when they are on essential duty, particularly when there is an emergency. So, the question is, what emergency could that soldier have been rushing to attend to? Is there a war in Lagos? Would he have apologised profusely if he was rushing to an emergency and acting in the interest of the state?

On V/I I have seen ambulances being waved through, despite the fact that the traffic light was red. This is because they were rushing to save a life. So I ask again, what emergency was the soldier rushing to? Was it in the public interest?

Please read "History of Civil-Military Relations in Nigeria" by Dr Nowa Omoigui.
what other emergency or situation do you want to accord a military officer? Someone who has sighned the death warrant to give his life for his country, and your looking for an emergency. Kai !!
You think on a nomal day i can't protect my self and my family that i would require the service of a policeman on a day to day bases and a military man in war time.

The FACT THAT HE'S A MILITARY MAN ON UNIFORM IS AN EMERGENCY ON ITS OWN.
What other emergency does he require. Maybe if fashola was the president he might start thinking straight, then he would understand what the military is. So i don't blame him, he's thinking like the governor that he is.

a senseless law is a senseless law. You can interprete it the way you like. For the sake of reducing excuses for our weak and already lazy officials, like the police and army, you need to remove every possible excuse they might give in cases of neglect/laxity in duty.

Have u ever called the police for something and they tell you it was due to lack of fuel or traffic thats why they couldn't make it untill after the ........ As been committed.

femionasan: What issue should be looked into? Something like this will make the military take over? Such ignorant talk, where and when did the governor threaten the colonel? Even when the 3 lanes were being used for cars only, there was always a long stretch of traffic on Ikorodu road so what are you on about? Did Fashola impose the BRT lane law on citizens or have u forgotten than the FG ceded the road to LASG. In summary all i see is hatred for the governor in your comments and you are still living in the dark clouds of the military era, thats if you were old enough to understand what happened back then. You make military look like gods. Try to be objective next time.
fuke: Nonsense.

Soldiers should be respected but first they should respect the law.

What kind of up-sided logic is this? Colonel=governor?

there are generals who never became governor.

However, I want to say that the army should not take this further.

The profuse apology by the colonel is enough atonement for the offense.

Those talking about dismissal are talking gibberish.

You want the colonel to lose his commission for a mere traffic offense.

You all are not serious.

A sergeant should not lose a pip for a traffic offense.

Yes, an offence was commited,fine.
The issue here is not the offence but that that lane should not be meant for brt alone.
We are talking of a road constructed in the 60/70 with no brt intent. we are talking of a road that while in serious and heavy traffic, only two/three buses pass through. While other road users wait and look helplessly. That lane can not be dedicated to brt buses alone.

ajbabs: Millitary officers that are not operation are expected to comply with BRR edict
,except if reverse is the case.
for the fact that he is on uniform then, he's on duty.

i have said it before and i will say it again, the brt lane should be renamed the emergency lane. For all military men, police, ambulance, governors. And people on special duty.
That was hypocrisy on the part of fashola, when those roads were built, the brt was not considered. Take a look at the ojota/yaba road, it was initially a three lane road and still had serious traffic.i mean Heavy traffic. Now that the brt has come in, most time that lane is left empty with long queues of cars in traffic struggling to share the the remaining two lanes.
looking at the blockage of the third mainland bridge, i would have expected the govnor, to open the brt lane for more road users, but NO, his stubbonness and hypocrisy won't let him.

Lastly, it is the biggest insult on the part of the governor to come and threaten a colonel in the Nigerian Army, On his Nigerian Army Uniform, in an official Nigerian Army Vehicle, in Nigeria for a soo called offence he foolishly put there. Its disrespect like this that call for military take overs. That colonel would have been the governor of Lagos State in a military setting.

I think this issue should be looked into.

very good write up and very touching indeed. But, i'll like to add.

That,
the US and the world understands the sensitivity of Nigeria to africa and to the world.and i believe they would not want crises beyond what they can handle, as africa has always been of great importance to the world.

Yes ! The Us is very interested in Nigeria and her resources, but i don't think they would want to cause disorderliness and war to break us to one weak tiny bit so as to devour our resources.they will rather seek further, for our unity and friendship to get an edge over the higly populated china, for economic purpose.

The US will work with the Nigerian govt to breed more mutual understanding and alliance.
I hope i've made some points.
Just my tots.

to an extent i will say we are sometimes harsh to the govt. But considering the level of corruption that has gone and still going on, i will say we are not been harsh enough.
Once the govt takes care of the power problems and fix infracstucture which are one of its primary responsibilities, you'll see a change in tone from nigerians. These problems keep staring us in the face daily.

Secondly, the speed at which other countries have gone past us is also an issue of concern. Especially Brazil and indonesia.
