EducationA New Planet Is Discovered. by ojdollars(op): 12:26am On Aug 13, 2011
New planet is darkest ever known

Darker than coal, gigantic TrES-2b is as big as Jupiter and offers plenty of mystery. What causes faint glow

http://news.yahoo.com/coal-black-alien-planet-darkest-ever-seen-220601419.html

An alien world blacker than coal, the darkest planet known, has been discovered in the galaxy.

The world in question is a giant the size of Jupiter known as TrES-2b. NASA's Kepler spacecraft detected it lurking around the yellow sun-like star GSC 03549-02811 some 750 light years away in the direction of the constellation Draco.

The researchers found this gas giant reflects less than 1 percent of the sunlight falling on it, making it darker than any planet or moon seen up to now. [The Strangest Alien Planets]

"It's just ridiculous how dark this planet is, how alien it is compared to anything we have in our solar system," study lead-author David Kipping, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, told SPACE.com. "It's darker than the blackest lump of coal, than dark acrylic paint you might paint with. It's bizarre how this huge planet became so absorbent of all the light that hits it."

Whereas Jupiter has clouds streaking it white and red, reflecting more than a third of the sunlight reaching it, TrES-2b apparently lacks reflective clouds, super-heated as its atmosphere is to more than 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit (980 degrees Celsius) by a star just 3.1 million miles (5 million kilometers) away from it.

"However, it's not completely pitch black," co-author David Spiegel of Princeton University said in a statement. "It's so hot that it emits a faint red glow, much like a burning ember or the coils on an electric stove."

The researchers propose that light-absorbing chemicals such as vaporized sodium and potassium or gaseous titanium oxide in the planet's atmosphere could help explain why it is so dark. Still, none of these can fully explain why the world is as stealthily cloaked as it is.

"It's a mystery as to what's causing it to be so dark," Kipping said. "There's a good chance it's a chemical we haven't even thought of yet."

The astronomers think TrES-2b is tidally locked like our moon, such that one side of the planet always faces the star. This would lead it to change phases as it orbits its star just as our moon waxes and wanes from new to crescent to full, causing the total brightness of the star plus the planet to vary slightly over time.

"By combining the impressive precision from Kepler with observations of over 50 orbits, we detected the smallest-ever change in brightness from an exoplanet — just 6 parts per million," said Kipping. "In other words, Kepler was able to directly detect visible light coming from the planet itself."

These extremely small fluctuations in light proved that TrES-2b is incredibly dark. A more reflective world would have shown larger brightness variations as its phase changed.

Although TrES-2b currently is the darkest known planet, similar worlds around other stars undoubtedly await discovery, the researchers said. For now, it reinforces the idea that our solar system may not be as typical as we once thought, with an extraordinary variety of worlds potentially filling our galaxy.

Additional investigation of the more than 1,200 prospective worlds that Kepler has detected could turn up other unusually dark planets. The spacecraft, which launched in March 2009, is planned to run until at least November 2012.

"If Kepler gets an extended mission as we're hoping, it would be a huge boost to this kind of research," Kipping said.

Kipping and Spiegel detailed their findings in a study accepted for publication in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

@Justwise, if they don't put address, they are scammers, if they put address, they are scammers. I don't think you are Human, like someone commented about you on another thread. I sorry for you and your followers. Let me ask you a question, where were you, when this Honourable and Humble Man Mr.Olusegun Osewa A.K.A Seun was creating it's Nairaland website in Nigeria? You were busy queing in line at the UK Embassy to go find Greener Pasture in UK abi? My Other Question is, Why did you prefer UK to Nigeria, if you are really the Patrotic Citizen as you claimed to be on NL? You even accused that Humble guy on a Malaysia Visa Thread I was reading today suxes2005 or so, that he is a scammer and your followers join you too. It takes a Thief to Indentify a Thief. I have been going through Previous Thread Posted on this Travel Section on here and I have not found any good information you have given to any of this foolish followers of yours on NL. With my 70 something Post so far, others who are very sensible can say I have contributed better than you and your followers. Insulting your seniors all because of Forum things.

Have you seen life before? I knew what it means to be poor, I cry when I see criminals being killed, people being treated brutaly by govt forces and others. Why? Because, there is not smoke without fire. I know how hard it was for me and my seven siblings and parents back then. It wasn't easy, we knew what it means for 7 people to eat just 1 cup of garri, many litters of dirty well or tap water, depends on the one we can get. I hate you with Passion Justwise and believe me, this you are taking lightly, I am not. I am just looking for a means where I can have your IP Traced. I swear, I would give you a bruise of your life.

Your own is too much, let people experience things for themselves. You call those old enough to be your father Childish. All sort of names. The first Visa I got was done by an Agent in Lagos, he works in Schlumberger, don't know if I spelt it correct or so, VI Office. I don't know him, was just introduce like this to him via Online friend, took the risk, payed him 120k, with my passport and 2 passport copy and that was how I first landed in South Africa, spent some weeks and came back, then I started gathering information from people about how to apply for visas successfully on my own. Today, I can say that, no embassy in this world. Can refuse me visa, not even the once people dreaded the most.

Becareful Justwise, becareful. Not everyone you see on a forum you insult, some are muslim, christian, occultic and all sort. Becareful ooh. Stop this non-sense now. All this thing you are doing that those foolish people or supporters of urs with no Surname hiding behind screen to support your ranting and whinning at people's business via through this Forum, has made many people to just view other people's post and not share their valuable and important ideas that can help posters looking for solutions to their problem. Or even post legitimate business that can help others get to the next level. Instead of you to start accusing people, open your own thread and post information for Genuine Travelers to view and get information from.

The other day, I was at the Politics section trying to defend one of our Politicians, you just came around and started talking thrash, raining abuses on Nigeria Politicians, as though it's all of them that are bad. Na who nor get money, nai dey boast say he go be pastor when he get money, until money come, then he change his/her confession. You talk as if if you were there, you would have done better to them. And More of them, Who has taken their time to open a Thread to give information for free or let people in to drop their own knowledge to better the life of other Nigerians. When I first got to know about this NL like 3 - 4 years ago, I was just viewing and not commenting once in a while until I finally decide to register this year or last year. So far, I have introduce a total of 150 people to Join Nairaland, every kind of people you can think of. Justwise, please get some good manner, you lack it abeg. Charity begins at home. If Nigeria is easy, come here and start life Na, Make you know why Nigerians are always trying to travel out.

I know of a friend's Best Friend that traveled through an Agent to Switzerland some years ago, which even made the Father to sell their only House with no hope of how Switzerland is going to look like, and today, this guy is married to a switz, has like 5 New Houses in Warri, Edjegba where shell office is and other places you can think of. Even in Lagos, he is a legitimate business man. I know of someone that has been duped of 5 different Agent and later met an Honest Agent that helped him to I think, Australia, today he is doing well, legit. You can't continue to poison the heart of Nigerians who are here to get information. You can't. One man food is another man's poison. All student cannot in same class of knowledge and wisdom despite being together in one class room. Everyone is born with his or her own gift.

Can you confirm to us that Nigerians are the only one's that are corrupt? Have yo ever seen a Russian condeming a Russian in any forum before? Yet Russians are the Highest Scammers followed by Ukrainians and the rest of those scandinavian countries in the world. Can you say that, nigerians are more worst than the citizens in London that went as fAR AS steal coca-cola drinks that I can't even remember the last time I bought that drink with my own money in London? You have to sit down and think about this, before you act. The Poster up there, gave his address for residence of Lagos or Nearby residence to come to his Office in Ikeja, yet you calling him a scammer. I think those who know Mr.Osewaseun should report your actions to him, what you are doing would scare many people away with Vital Information from NL.

There are better ways to deal with scammer. You asked him question and let him answer, if he can't you ignore him. If you willing to risk your fund, you do. Like someone says, you are only wasting your time fighting scammers like you claim, people who view the posts of this individuals give them a call, myself I sometimes call this guy to find out to see if other users would be save. You accused 1WORLD that is doing Paraguayan Programme here on NL. Which I have even sent a Friend of mine to meet with the owner of the company in Canada and has confirmed their Programme to be Genuine before I even dealed with the guy. But yet, you concluded he was a scammer, with is office address boldly written.

Justwise, becareful, becareful, becareful. You are doing too much, enough is enough. You have no right to insult anyone here, becareful OK. Or turn to collinsfbi to teach you good mannerism and approach, cause is one user I admire and would like to meet on NL. Becareful ooh justwise. eeeen, sigh, Nigth my boy.

@worry246 , I have noticed that you like to insult posters who are new here or trying to learn how this NL system works. It's not fair my friend, you must not rubbish people all the time, correct them as you were also corrected while you were ignorant of some things in life some time ago in your life.

@frakie , This is the only Solution to your problem. Go to Guaranty Trust Bank with a Photocopy of your Passport Data Page and your original passport too if avail at the time of booking. Pay the sum of a $150usd equivalent in Naira to the Bank to obtain a receipt that is explained on their website, on how you can use it to book an appointment. Book an Hotel Reservation and Flight Booking also if you applying as a tourist. As it's very important when filling the DS-160 Form online as you would be instructed thru their website. Call them for more information. The website is,

http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/welcome.html

Hope this is information is OK for now.

@kayalla , A little advice for you. When you are on a public forum like this looking for an answer to your question, try and be nice. Not the way you sounded a bit rude in your post, calling all the discu here gist that has not answered your question. Well it's easy to apply for Germany and once you have your correct Document, they will give you visa. As long as you have more than 350,000naira in your account current balance and some other money that has been credited and debited making the sum total your account has received higher. But if you can't get Germany Appointment earlier, you can go for France Tourist Visa, no Invitation letter required. Just make sure you own a small business registered in Nigeria here via Corporate Affairs Commission with your Business or company name on your Conquerors letter heading paper, where it would be required to be used for writing your introduction letter, like introducing the company and nature of the business the company is into in the letter, your purpose of visit and duration (Should not be more than two weeks). And then conclude it with you would be grateful if they would grant you the visa which is a priviledge and not a right for your Holidays. But for other Visiting Purpose, find somebody to give you INVITATION LETTER, it must be someone well establish in Europe. France Visa is 2weeks, no addition and no subtraction. But German Visa, you need to Send them Appointment request and all oof that first via DHL, UPS OR FEDEX with your email address. I advice France, France is just 10days. And please go through their Required Check List on the site. Here are the two consulate or embassy Website, check it out for yourself.

GERMANY EMBASSY IN ABUJA, NIGERIA.: http://www.abuja.diplo.de/Vertretung/abuja/en/04/Visa__requirements/How__to__apply__MainPage.html

FRANCE EMBASSY IN LAGOS, NIGERIA.: http://www.france-ng.com/allaboutvisa.html

Anyone who has other idea about successful application to the various embassy can contribute to help you too. Hope this answer your question Sir.

@Justwise, He don reach insult again? You act like you know everything, accuses people of things you are not sure of first. Read Collinsfbi post, he was trying to encourage the poster. But you, you would just appear with your two lines words of insult on posters. Can you tell us how you even got to UK self? If Nigeria is good for you, while not stay back in Nigeria na? You have no respect at all. If not for forum things, you can't insult anyone and go free hiding behind the screen. I don't have the time to start bastardizing words with you my young man, I just arrived Waffi, like 4hrs ago, I need my rest.

@Poster, have you found any sponsor yet? Let me know.
TravelRe: 1 by ojdollars(m): 12:28pm On Aug 10, 2011
@Oyibomoses, I love the way and manner you posted your pains, fear and challenges on Nairaland. I have few Suggestion for you.

1. Meet your Pastor either from your Momsi or Popsi Church, they can help you on that. As long as it's just legitimate documents and their cash won't be involved. Winners, Christ Embassy, Deeperlife, Methodist, Anglican Churches or Any other church. See the Pastor yourself, if it would take you to cry, cry for him and beg him or the wife, you can enter most pastors on good issues like this, through their wife or assistant Pastors.

2. Meet your Lawyer or your Father's Lawyer, explain to am first, he might have a Loyal Client he don help when go listen to am, tell am in two ways, say Bros or Madam, you ready to pay the person self, the person would not spend his/her dime on this issue, bla blah blah. He/She might help you. But wait ooh, school admitting you for 4years course in Canada, require 15million or what's the real amount? Not sure, na everybody must get 15 million before them school? Na lie. Check www.mun.ca also for more info too.

3. Meet your Bank Manager, explain to them, tell them you ready to pay anything to agree with their Customers when go accept to help you.

4. Go meet those Alahaji for Hausa Quaters when dey do Bureau De Change, ask them how much they are willing to take. They can stand as your uncle or your father's friend. Or your Father's step brother, uncle too though. From your father's Mother side. Those guys can even give you account statement worth 50million self. As long as it's going to be business and they see the light as genuine AND be convinced that they are not spending their money on it, but would gain, men, forget, they would in automatically for the business.

I wish you good luck, never give up bros. Their is strenght in your weakness. @Justwise, small small they insult people. You didn't fly to UK. Even though you are a Prince of Guara Guara Land, others are not. Find pleasure in helping people reach and achieve their goals. Never see yourself as superior over people. Oyibomoses, just take care and be calm and most expecially, pray about it, let God help you. I am at the MM2 Airport LAG, heading to Warri, will check NL later in the evening, any other question, ask. But take this suggestion very serious. He go work, sponsor na sponsor.

Have a nice day.

@chamber2 , Your last post is worth reading and reading again, thanks for all the info there. I for one, don't like agents, I hate agents pass justwise, siena and co. Now I understand you clearly, I am not trying to show off or something, but I try to contribute in almost every post I read on travel section, in other to give the users here a good and quality information most times. I find out that on NL, 50,000 people can read your post with just 2 people or sometimes without people contributing to it. And most people here are expertise on visa and documentation issue, but would not let out the information to better the life of others. I am a giver, so the thing always flow inside me even on NL.

TravelRe: My Experience With Aero! by ojdollars(m): 6:44am On Aug 08, 2011
@pek ,  Hummm,  I feel your pains my brother, I understand what you went through. Nigerian Aviation Industry is failing. Some weeks ago, I missed aero flight so opted to use MyAirNigeria from Los - BNI. I bought ticket from their counter for a flight of 9:55 which was originally for 8:55 before it was cancel while we got to the aiport, though they sent a text twice notify me on the first cancellation. But dem delay us like 6hrs, no flight to BNI, the story they told us was that, their fuel finish, so they were looking for fuel, with no apologies. Week before, bought a ticket from aero online, only for them to debit Money from my account and the ticket refused to display neither was it emailed to me via my email i filled in on the booking form, till today, filed a complain with Intercontinental, since they are the one's that issue the ATM Card when I used, money dem nor gree refund till today, getting to like 1month and 1 week. So Nigeria aviation, need God for revival. If you have a competent Lawyer, present the matter to him just as you posted it on NL, he will advice you on whether you have a case or not, is a big loss and I sympathize with you. One door close, another door go open. But what if your plane come crash that day before uncu? hahaha, he for bad ooh,  Anyway take care bros. smiley
TravelRe: Malaysia by ojdollars(m): 6:15am On Aug 08, 2011
@chamber2 , With all due respect to your post. Everyone stand the chance to be corrected, there is no I know all here in NL, I even ask questions sometimes to get answers. If you have looked up at those Thread regarding North Cyprus and About To Fly To North Cyprus, then you would have understand more about Foreign University in a Foreign Country. The School web, I gave to the Poster is owned by the Britain, not owned by the Malaysians. I simply suggested it to the Poster, that he should email them for clarifications and other information. They are in better position to advice and guide him on what to do if he is interested. The boy I know that has finished the English Program told me he would be Transferred to UK for other Courses, it was just a suggestion and didn't call for insult from that kid. I am not in Malaysia, I am in Nigeria presently and I am not an agent to any school or so. I have helped so many Nigerians who are wanting to travel abroad genuinely in many ways.

@macmayor , just to let you know, there is a vacancy in my company for cleaners and gate men, will you apply? No interview needed, since you from NL. grin

@macmoyor , You mustn't insult your senior in other for you to get fame. I didn't contribute to your post, I was only trying to help the Poster. Most of you who come here to insult people are either one of those bois that hang in one country or the other managing or doing some stupid job to earn a living. I own two companies, I have traveled with my family to anywhere you can think of for hols and vac. Malaysia people were friendly to me, perhaps because they knew I was just there for vac. Don't let your mouth put you into trouble, in the name of trying to show off on a forum. Careful boy, won't issue you any form of warning next time.
