I think I like this idea. I remember that Gani's Will being discussed. It was when we dived into spouses remaining at a person's demise and then the new partner mismanaging the funds. It was really an interesting read then. I believe if I compile the discussions we have had here and compile into a book, e go sell o. lol Thanks oga Emma, you are truly gem. What is your opinion on Seplat, is it present price of less than 385 an opportunity that does not come everyday, or still overpriced or not a good company to invest in? emmanuelewumi: You include it in your will, so everything will automatically be transferred to the Trust. You can include in your will, for the Trustees to keep on managing the Trust for the next 20 years, till your last born is 35 years old or any specification you want
Read Gani Fawehinmi Will to understand the instructions given to the Trustees in the will
Funds and cash flow from the Trust account will be used to pay the children school fees, maintain the property, make further investments , start up capital for the children and also give allowances to the children and loved ones
We have FBN Trustees, United Capital Trustees, Custodian Trustees etc. They are regulated by SEC and also expected to give regular reports about the running of the Trust account.
I once shared the story of a guy who got N4 million from the Trust account set up by his late father. He used the fund to start a real estate and construction Company about 20 years ago after he graduated from Yaba College of Technology. This gave him a headstart and has been able to grow the business to a multi million Naira enterprise |

Sir, how does this work? Do you handover control to them? As in, can I still decide what shares to buy or sell, or they are basically in control of that like a mutual fund is? emmanuelewumi: Or transfer your Investments and assets to a Trust account, managed by SEC approved Trustees |

Another good approach in all of these is to register a business name and use that name for all your business transactions. You can use it to buy shares, build houses, real estate etc. Because a business is believe not to die a physical death, it is the best way of transferring wealth across different generations without paying that inheritance tax. All you need to do is just keep making the descendants partners in the business and signatory to the accounts. This can go on for ages, just remember to be paying your taxes though which I believe will not be too much. emmasoft: Yes there is a percentage to give to the government but I can't say exactly the rate. For the duration it takes, it may be more than what you stated. Sincerely most people that have had the experience their comment is it's not easy is always the case but it's possible and doable. |

Folks, with regards to shares from our forebears who are no longer alive, this is the response I got from CSCS on the subject matter. Dear sir/ma'am,
Thank you for contacting CSCS customer service.
With reference to your request, kindly obtain the letter of administration and contact the stockbroker/ any of the stockbrokers where the stocks are housed.
The account will be converted to an estate account and the administrators are to manage the account(s) on behalf of the family. |

What could be the problem?
Also, how do i go about reclaiming the shares?

Oh okay. Most I have dealt with have always accepted my scanned copy. Entering the bank nowadays is a day's activity, so I am for anything to avoid it. emmasoft: No my brother we are saying the same thing. dividend mandate can be submitted at the bank or to the registrar that is what is obtainable right now. More so some registrars don't honour the scanned copy especially if first time. They prefer it coming from the bank or you going to them. I suggested the bank in case if it's difficult getting through to the registrar the bank becomes the best option. Going to the bank is not for the document to be signed but to be submitted. The bank then upload it to the common portal where the registrar have access. same thing if it's the other way round |

Ema, I think you are wrong here. I am not sure that step of going to get signature confirmation from the bank is still a required step. For those who the owners of such shares are still alive, they only need to find out who the registrar of that particular share is (Google will help here), download the e-mandate form, fill it, scan and send to the email of the registrar gotten from their site. emmasoft: On behalf of oga Emma; Here is what to do: Download the respective e-mandates from this link https://sec.gov.ng/public-notice-the-e-dividend-mandate-activation-forms-of-various-registrars-are-now-available-for-download/
Your dad takes them to his bank and submit. All things being equal ie no signature issues, the dividends not later than 12 years will be credited to his account. If otherwise the respective registrars will advice on the way forward.
N.B: For DFM your dad is getting a pay off not only dividend because Olam already bought the coy over and it has been delisted from the NSE |

I am thinking, perhaps you want them to only be able to power their lights, charge phones then maybe you want them to only have about 200W, in that case you may be needing a CB of 1A for 220W at 220V, I wonder if you can get that in the market. kadorzy: Good day great minds. Number 1 and 2 are suspect and incorrect if you ask me. Sholapey: To my understanding, for those asking for security of investment of their investment in Stock market, Bonds and Treasury Bills Investment. Invest wisely by doing these three things.
1. Determine the amount of money you CAN NOT afford to lose no matter what happens. Invest that amount on Bonds and Treasury Bills. For Treasury Bills, when you get the upfront interest, re-invest it for compound interest.
2. Determine the amount of the savings you CAN afford to lose or risk. Invest that amount on the stock market, make sure you buy stocks with good value and your objective should be long term.
3. Invest in your personal finance know-how (Financial Literacy). Go read up Usiere Uko's "Practical Steps To Financial Freedom and Independence" and Tony Robbin's "Money; Master The Game". Read up ASSET ALLOCATION in these books as many times as you can until you understand it fully.
This number 3 is the most important. Do not do anything if you have not done this.
Also remember the 3ps of your business objective. Plan Price and place.
Stay blessed! |

We have had this discussion here about the people and HR in Nigeria being a major problem, some put it down to poverty and hunger, but as far as I know, on the poverty index, we are far better than Zimbabwe yet see the experience of this person in a poor country like Zimbabwe. Vixlot: My Experience in Zimbabwe.
I did something in Zimbabwe and I am wondering who will be stupid enough to do such in Nigeria.*
We hired a car (Hyundai Elantra 2018) from Europcar for six (6) months. On my departure day, I drove it to the airport, but the car hire office was closed. My flight was just two (2) hours, so no chance of taking it back to town.
While thinking of what to do, a young man (Jack) who identified himself as a staff of Caresafe taxi service at the airport told me that Europcar have closed the office due to Lockdown. He offered to help me in returning the car to Europcar office in the city. All he needed was call credit to contact them. I gave him equivalent of 300NGN for the call credit. I then parked the car, gave him the key, took a picture of his ID and returned to Nigeria.
By close of the day, I recieved a mail from Europcar that the car has been returned.
Though, I didn't know the Jack and there was no way of tracing him except by his work ID which was not verified, my mind was at rest that he will hand over the car to the car hire. I trusted him because he's a Zimbabwean. He may be extremely poor and hungry, I know he's contented.
Despite the poor economy, people still leave their wares outside on the table till the next day without fear. WHO DARE TRY THIS IN NIGERIA?
This is not about the government or politics, but the people. These people respect the law. For my six(6) months stay, i heard no single report of crime in the city. The police are unarmed except for stick but are highly respected.
Jack may not even be a christian. I didn't bother to ask for his religion. I didn't trust him because he mentioned the name of a God, he wore collar or carry a holy book . I trusted him because I knew the practice of his people. If he's my country man, i dare not try that. I wonder how we descended this low as a country.
I have been suspected and severally interrogated just because I carried Nigeria passport. This has happened in unrelated places, not because of what I have done but because of where I come from.
An officer in Lahore was once suprised he couldn't find drugs on me (a Nigerian) even after rigorous scanning. Once you identify as a Nigerian, people see you as a potential criminal.
It is time to repair our identity. We need to work on our value system. We need to retrace our steps to find where we missed it. Maybe we can be right again.

The naira end of it is good, CS is also good as everything is online but I am not sure I understand the dollar fund part very well, anyway, make the money de there not like I need it urgently. Rates are not static, but as expected, they are not very high. If u see MMF as a way of savings with interest, you won't be too worried, but if you are like ahib who checks inflation rates, devaluation, naira vs usd and other microeconomics, then I suggest you go into other ventures. MMF is not even a get rich scheme not to talk of being a get rich quickly scheme. tipzy001: lol, thank you very much sir, how has your experience been so far with stanbic ibtc money market fund and what was their most recent interest rate please? Jeez, I should have done Eurobond. I just checked again, apparently what I have with Stanbic is a type of Dollar fund type mutual fund but in USD. Men that thing craws slower than a snail. How long have you been doing your eurobond, my own has not moved into the positive spectrum from the bank charges since the beginning of the year. Stanbic then increase the money one can subscribe which means I have to be looking at that one there for as long as possible. IamR: lol
I am very pleased with my Eurobond Fund with United Capital. |

There is a dedicated thread for MMF, if you have entered that thread and customer service response was your priority, then I am not sure you would have typed fbn not to talk of typing it in full fbnquest. Except they have changed. I have not united capital experience, I think oga Emma uses them. for some strange reasons u did not even add stanbic ibtc as an option. Anyway, that thread will serve you better. They are also matured there. tipzy001: Good day guys, it's been long since I last posted here but I've been following up with the thread and I've gained a whole lot, thanks to everyone.
I'm about to go into money market fund with a few millions and my two options are united capital and fbnquest, which among these two have better customer service response? As that is very important to me. Also hope my capital is preserved with money market funds?
PLEASE I will appreciate response from anyone that is using either of the two management mentioned above. Thank you |
