A good properly rated circuit breaker will do this job for you. Ensure the circuit breaker is at your end of the building where only you can put it back or otherwise they will bypass it.
You can even make it two, one at their end and one at your end.

Good day great minds.
I need to extend power to an apartment as a matter of urgency, but I don't want to leave any thing to chance of abuse. Is there any form of control I can implement to limit their consumption if by chance they abuse it?

Thank you sirs

I don't understand, if people really bring such large forex into the country, why then has the surplus not being driving down the cost even below the 357 that it stayed in for a long time.
ahiboilandgas:
if a labasene smuggles 1 m dollars into Nigeria and changes it into 475m and buy shares,tb and bond ....she also a fpi ?

Please what is the relationship between FPI and increasing our reserve? Educate me please...
pluto09:
When they brought their money and CBN kept singing how they were increasing our reserve, nobody said they were not useful to the economy then....

You sure say they even de invest for hotel? They can operate from anywhere in the world. Don't forget Nigeria is likely to be one of the 3rd world countries they operate.
emmanuelewumi:
They are not Foreign Portfolio Investors, Lebanese and Chinese are businessmen. Although some are fraudulent

Portfolio Investors buy shares, Treasury Bills, Bonds, Commercial papers, Eurobonds etc. They can have millions or billions of dollars worth of Investments, but only operate from their hotel rooms when they are in Nigeria. They don't need an office or a property in Naira.

They are nomads and they need to be as light as possible. A laptop, phone and their portfolio is all they need.
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ojesymsym: 11:49am On Aug 18, 2020
With the money trapped here, they are cycling the money inside Nigeria. If your suspicion that they are the ones doing the low rate TB, that means that CBN is getting cheap loan from them.
If this is a delibrate plot of CBN I can say it is a smart move. Otherwise, we still benefit at the top level.
I non really know why people like to de curse this CBN governor for not providing cheap forex without impact
ahiboilandgas:
cbn .....unless criminal fpi run by labasene and Chinese

Okay, they should be patient, we don't have forex to give them for now.
TransAtlanticEx:
CBN..
Because of you bring through black market, you'll also exit through black market, unless you have a strong paddy that's a legit businessman you can pass under..
Otherwise you'll have to smuggle your currency out like those Lebanese caught with $890k in port harcourt grin
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ojesymsym: 11:39am On Aug 18, 2020
The moments we need them the most to bring scarce forex is when they also always want to move the small ones available away.

emmanuelewumi:
FPIs make money but don't create wealth.

Just like a trader, importer and a manufacturer.

Traders and importers make money, but manufacturers money has a multiplier effects on the economy

When FPI bring in money, do they change with CBN rate or blackmarket rate?
ahiboilandgas:
we need more of fdi....
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ojesymsym: 11:09am On Aug 18, 2020
Exactly, FDIs are better on the long term and impact the local economy, these FPIs tend to hurt us when things are a little shaky
emmanuelewumi:

Foreign portfolio investors are normads
. They don't own controlling shares in businesses, they are their for the short term.

Unlike foreign direct Investors like Lafarge, Friesland, Nestle, Heneikens, MTN SA, Diageo, Unilever, Siat, Olams etc, they have controlling shares in businesses in Nigeria

It is only guaranteed before you are comparing it with Naira, inflation will also chop off part of their money if they also left it idle wherever they are bringing the money from.
ahiboilandgas:
but their capital is guaranteed ....getting stranded twice in 5 years is bad new that will add to the parameter of risk in Nigeria

Even their country where they want to take the money to are not farring better.

The fpi are the once investing in 1 percent tb for 90 days to hold body small before escaping from Nigeria they keep rolling over ......the risk is 100 percent.....

You and your guy conglomerate are in agreement with this one.
I have never really liked portfolio investors that can dream bad dream at night and next morning they can run away with their briefcase. If they invest in factories, manufacturing and other critical sectors, they non go fit carry their factory and equipment for head run overnight, worse case they go wind down operation.
ahiboilandgas:
scamed by the the cbn ...... fpi should be discourage by the cbn ....cos there investment is short term and bring more damage ....imagine 2.5 bn dollars wanting to be repartrated at once .....

So we can use the high dollar rate to experiment this your idea then, maybe that is what CBN is doing then.

TransAtlanticEx:
If I weaken my currency appropriately, before their rice even get to lagos inside container or silo ship it will already be at around 20k per bag.
Coupled with custom duty they won't be able to sell because I have given my local farmers a lot of numbers to play with and be profitable.
And that doesn't mean I will stop local acts and farmer support too.
These things go hand in hand.
A lot of these companies here are doing the same thing too.
They import a lot of raw materials that could be produced or bought here.
Since this fx scarcity start, they are beginning to look inwards to get materials.
Not that someone will be importing raw corn and sorghum here, simply because e see cheap dollar to take buy am and hence claiming our locally grown ones aren't good 3nough,quality bal bia bla...all lies!!!
It's simply cheaper for them to import, finish.which is one thing proper naira pricing will stop almost immediately.

The worse of the lot is buying and keeping in a dom account at this time, it will end in tears for many people because withdrawal will be a problem. As Ahib has said, don't be too greedy, invest but don't sleep on it.
ahiboilandgas:
For local investors holding dollars while the black markets rates is tempting. 475 which is more of a speculative rate ....the cbn has stopped funding bdc and bta and pta once international air travel open up with thousand of Nigerians coming back for Christmas and other cbn will start funding those segement too according to them .....this will make price crash tp circa 400 ....a wopping lost of 75 naira .......dont invest and sleep....your eye ,ears, and nose should be on 3 time . . Crude prices, covid vaccine(international travels) and cbn/bdc policey........we in Abcon anticipate a loss of 20 bn in between ...........non greedy local investor that had dollars at 360 has sold off at 470 and waitng for 400 naira one to be available by nov/dec to stock up........... while greedy investors are hoping to reach 520 first ......surely they will get burnt it a circle ....

Oh okay, point noted.

Cyberknight:
Not true. The telcos were only recently licensed to start up mobile money operations in Nigeria - at the end of 2018, or thereabouts - MTN got its license last year I think. There is no way you can ascribe the blame for the delay to anyone other than regulators, as obviously MTN (or any other serious telco) which operates in Ghana and Cameroun for instance, must have been slavering and dying to enter the Nigerian market with this product.

The target of mobile money is mainly the unbanked, who are mostly persons from lower income groups, but it is also used by all classes (think me paying my security man or shopping in the market for instance) and thus it tends to take a bite out of the banks' revenues.
einsteine:
Your submission is not true. CBN killed mobile money by putting it in the hands of banks rather than mobile operators. In Kenya, your airtime can be used as money. In Nigeria, the CBN specifically wrote rules banning the use of airtime as money. The CBN has been so biased in favor of the banks that they refused MTN a banking license despite MTN having by far larger network than any existing bank.
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ojesymsym: 9:42pm On Aug 12, 2020
You guys are too quick to condemn CBN but you forget or should be aware that CBN under Sanusi tried to make Nigeria embrace mobile banking as it is with Kenya but Nigerians just refused to embrace it because I believe we were/are already exposed to internet banking and mobile app that mobile banking had no void to fill.
Cyberknight:
If the CBN was truly serious about the cashless society, it would embrace and promote mobile money wholeheartedly. Just spending a couple of days in Kenya or Ghana will show one how deeply this has penetrated and how transformatively useful it is. Yes, the traditional banks will lose some of their potential income from transfer fees and all that, while the telcos will smile to the - bank, but the sheer number of people brought into the "banking" economy will more than make up for that, for the economy as a whole.
