I have a recollection of seeing that. It can even be taken a step further by having a school that is primarily a computer science, programming, ICT school with innovation artificial intelligence solutions.

One traditional ruler in SW has done this. A video of the school circulated on the internet some months ago. The students work on the school farm and produce what they eat. The school is full boarding and it is free.

Exactly. Our copy of the educational system of the west in not really the best. You can teach a child 1,2,3 by asking him to count the number of goats or chicken or eggs in the farm, all na still education.
For English, the student can write a report of his experience in the farm or something. Practical education is what we need.

The model of school in my head that I hope to open soon is a school that is run as a company where the teachers must be able to practicalize what they plan to teach. The school will be both a service provider and a school, the students will learn by helping in part of the service delivery. With that kind of model, the school will be an income generating school to the extent that you can even offer free eduation.

Personally, I struggle to justify the rationale behind removing somebody from the farm or family business and give him ministry job to just be speaking English with no productivity. Education is supposed to improve the crude way of doing the things you were doing not just seat down and wait for salary.
That apprentice system should instead be adopted as an educational model. It is really hard to explain to people but it is the truth.
A farmer's children should be allowed to continue farming and combined with schooling. Then, he should be guided towards finding ways to help improve the existing system on ground.

You want to finish Europe be that. The Iran issue where US pulled out from the agreement and the Huawei where UK was practically forced to stop using Huawei product has made me realize that US as a country is too powerful to face headlong. Not just military might, just simple policies here and there and then you discover you are not so independent afterall.

I do not think CBN has funded any of these things in recent times, or have they? They do not even fund BDC for now.
As for food chains and co, it seems to be in line with conglomenrate (logobens) position also.

As for the pegging of nation's currency with dollar, only Europe has the boldness to want to use another currency, any other nation that tries it will go the way of Saddam Hussein and Ghaddafi.
ahiboilandgas:
For the Nigeria state (may be some readers in govt are here)...the foreign exchange demand of the economy should be look into critically .....un important items must not be funded ....item like hajj operations, tourism travels , unnecessary foreign education in countries as par with Nigeria (sudan ,eypty, togo India etc)...Then local food production should be encourage....unessary food chain like kfc, shoprites ,etc should not be encourage (we can do all that )

Our inflow has been dwindling over the years, just when it began to rise again, Covid19 came and took us all down.

I believe there is still a global crisis ahead and Nigeria will feel the aftershock. I do not believe having even physical properties will be enough to stem the tide, if a tenant cannot pay his rent, even if you evict him no guarantee the next guy will also be able to pay.

The low TB rate even though it hurts us in this thread particularly, I think CBN had to make that decision.
ositadima1:
Do you have any idea howmuch is Nigerias yearly free cash flow, I mean net annual income minus maintenance expenses (like salaries and not roads). Cos if our free cash flow can pay d debts in about 3 years or less then it is not much of a problem. I assume.

Worst case, we stop any developmental activities for 3 years and liquidate d debts.
ahiboilandgas:
So local fixed income investors we should have a broader understanding of the investments we are doing.....a low tb rate is even good for sustainability of the scheme, a devalued or liberalized Naira ia good for stability of inflow of forex to the system , a corrupt free Nigeria is good for the stability of everbody (rich ,poor, investor, consumer, working ,retired).........my final strategy....try and hold much PHYSICAl ASSET that u have control over ........Gold ,income generating properties, machineries, physical dollars etc .......

Oh air conditioning cooling system. My first thoughts were on refrigerating.
Ok, one option may be to use sunny island variant of inverters or similar alternatives that accept high input solar voltages and not necessarily need batteries. It is a little more advanced design than Solar for normal homes.

If you want to do away with batteries that means they do not mind only powering during the day?
SuleimanKano:
Good morning Engineers.

I trust everyone is keeping good and staying safe at this moment in time.

It my first time posting here although have been a regular follower of this great thread.

I need technical support on a project we're  trying to design for a client. However, the Professor who happens to be an Electrical engineer is way too busy for us to sit down and make a realistic design for the client.

In view of the above predicament, we're approaching the deadline for submission which happens to be tomorrow.

We're to design a solar back up system for a supermarket cooling system.

Based on our load analysis, 600,000KVA Inverter System is required, so we break it down to  60,000KVA x 10 Inverters.

Regarding solar panel, we decided to utilize 400W x 1500panels = 600,000W

To save cost, the Professor is of the view that we should do away with batteries. Hence, we are to deploy 300KVA transformer and 300KVA Perkins Generator.

However, new ideas are welcome on the best realistic design, installation and maintenance.

Feedback did be appreciated.

I await response.

Finally closed the day at 59KwH solar harvest and 49KwH energy consumed by appliances during the day (see pic 2 of 2).

This was a stress test passed in flying colors - I do believe the PV array is rather oversized but it gives the assurance to run large loads as if on Mains - this is key as the only backup power I have is a 5.5kva Diesel Gen - no connection to PHCN grid whatsoever - no cables or service pole near me

If I see people to be paying me 300k every 6 month for every 1M, I will more than be happy to be a provider. The profit is too much abeg.

Yes you are right about the purposes of loans like this, you have to really be desperate.

The 3.6% from Page financial was still this monthly arrangement right?
Salliet:
Such loans are useful based on:

1. Short termed loans (preferably 1 to 2 months) e.g. for clearing consignment for immediate delivery to guaranteed buyers, meeting school fees or other financial obligations/deadlines ahead of payday etc.

2. Requires little or no collateral. They mostly work with your credit worthiness.

3. Requires minimal paperwork most are even paperless.

4. Crash processing time. Some are able to disburse within 24hours if all requirements are provided timely and correctly.

You don't use such loan sharks for developing a business or building projects.

It's a bad idea!
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ojesymsym: 9:18pm On Aug 07, 2020
How do business people survive with such loans?

mickky22:
That is reducing balance. MFBs do not do that. They do strictly flat.

A loan of 1m on monthly basis will be:

Monthly Principal = Loan Amount / Te

You didn't add administrative fee.

Thanks for your response.
He is investing it in his business.
What about those Fintech loans, do they offer similar or better rates?

What do you mean by reducing balance?

emmanuelewumi:
That is about the rate from microfinance bank. It depends on what he wants to do with the fund.

Not bad if he can convert the N1 million to N2 million in 6 months, and the interest will be on a reducing balance basis
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ojesymsym: 1:50pm On Aug 07, 2020
Please I need some clarification.
A friend wants to take a loan of 1 million from a microfinance bank and they told him 5% per month to be paid back on the 6th month. He is telling me that, that means 30% but I am telling him that irrespective of the 6 months term that the rate is actually 60%, if it is 60% then this loan is a terrible loan if you ask me.
What are your thoughts?
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojesymsym: 2:27pm On Aug 05, 2020
Most surges are about 3-5x of rated power, no I do not consider it high watts freezer. I also consider the fact that compressors come on and off at random. If that battery dies, I wont be bothered. Also like I said, that is not really my main inverter, it is mostly dedicated to afternoon loads, freezer and fridge that I want the sun to be the one really powering.
As per bolded, yes, I reckon they do that because they also use the batteries when camping. Different scenario if you ask me.

Mjolnir:
hmmmm, you settled for car battery cos of cost, or you truly believe the surge issssh?
if based on slight savings in cost, deep cycle vs car battery, but unless you are running a high wattage fridge, i think the surge is neglible. say a 150w fridge will surge to 900w at startup. @12v, this is about 75amps, which is well within the territory of deep cycle battery, a car starter needs upto 400 to 700amps at start up, if your device has such hefty requirements..then would i buy into your theory....

in other forums i belong to, RV owners and campers, swap out their car batteries to deep cycle, cos of its ability to power their loads without flinching

lol... Immediately I saw that Lithium accusation i knew it was a case of mistaken identity. When I was about replacing my batteries, I considered briefly if I should go the LFP route until I reminded myself that I successly used my battery set for more than 5 years and did not see the need for now to tied down that amount of money.

I have been waiting for your report on the inverter freezer also as I am undecided if I should go the route of DC fridge as a standalone or an energy efficient fridge.

Justmanuel has been adverting a DC Bora freezer, I wonder if anyone has tried. sundazer and other very high range DC freezers do not appeal to me that much at the moment. Also there is the felicity hybrid freezer also, anyone has any experience with them?
