It's tempting but misleading to judge certain historical events by the contemporary standards.

1) The wars and it's attending slave raiding were conducted between political units e.g Bini Kingdom Vs Ogwashikwu, Agbor Vs Bomadi etc

2) The battles were NOT fought between ethnic groups.

3) The ethnic groups as we now know them were classified by the British Colonial Masters around 1900.

So why did you agree with Reno that Ishekiri or whatever enslaved Igbos?

There was nothing like Igbo Nation then but there were Igbo people living in clans and villages which made it easy for Bini Armies to raid these villages for slaves.

Infact, 200 years ago the word for slaves in many parts of the Bini Empire was 'Igbon' referring to non-edo peoples from the bush which were regularly raided for slavery.

They might have enslaved some Igbanke and Agbor people who are their neighbours since there was nothing like Igbo nation then.
