Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe has alleged that his former vice-president and other top officials in his ruling Zanu-PF sought the services of Nigerian witchdoctors in a bid to kill him. The Africa Review reported that President Mugabe made the bizarre claims at the weekend as he celebrated his 91st birthday at a lavish party hosted by the party’s communist-styled 21st February movement. The veteran ruler, in power since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, claims he was ordained by God to rule forever according to the report. He told party supporters at the celebrations held at a top HOTEL IN THE resort town of Victoria Falls that sacked Vice-President Joice Mujuru used two Nigerian witchdoctors in her alleged plot to have him killed. Ms Mujuru was sacked together with more than 10 cabinet ministers for allegedly plotting to assassinate President Mugabe and being involved in corrupt activities. President Mugabe said Ms Mujuru was now too desperate to push him out of power even after he won an election in 2013. “We managed to know what (Ms) Mujuru was doing at her house, even consulting witchdoctors,” he claimed. “Recently she invited two Nigerian witchdoctors. We heard that they were specialists in the field of witchcraft. They were specialists, yes, but specialists in robbing people, foolish people,” he said. He said the Nigerians ordered Ms Mujuru to buy chickens that were named after herself, the president, his wife and Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The president claimed the former vice-president who was his deputy for 10 years, performed the rituals naked. “Where do these Nigerians get the powers to entrap the soul of a human being into a chicken or sheep and then kill him? “God is for us all. I also go to church, I do not believe in superstition. We were taught God’s teachings,” Mugabe said. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/mugabe-nigerian-witchdoctors-planned-to-kill-me/203378/ |

Chadian President Idriss Deby on Wednesday vowed to “wipe out” Boko Haram and called on the group’s chief Abubakar Shekau to give himself up, warning that he knew where the militant leader was hiding. “It is in Abubakar Shekau’s interest to surrender, we know where he is. If he refuses to give himself up, he will suffer the same fate as his comrades,” Deby said at a press conference with his visiting Niger counterpart. Deby said Shekau had fled the strategic northeast Nigerian town of Dikwa after Boko Haram fighters were chased out of the town by Chadian troops in fierce clashes last month. The Chadian army at the time said two of its soldiers and 117 Boko Haram Islamists were killed in the fighting around Dikwa in Nigeria’s Borno state on February 17. “We are going to win the war and we are going to wipe out Boko Haram, contrary to what certain media think. The Chadian and Niger forces will continue their mission to finally put an end to this shadowy group,” Deby said. Little is known of Shekau, who has been declared a global terrorist by the United States and sanctioned by the United Nations. – Enigmatic figure – Nigerian security officials insist he is in fact a composite character whose role is taken by a rotating cast of different militant fighters. According to security services, the original Abubakar Shekau was the son of poor farmers who was radicalised while attending theological schools and took over Boko Haram in 2010. The Nigerian military said last September that a man posing as Shekau in videos posted online had in fact been killed after fighting with troops in the far northeast. The United States and other experts, however, have questioned the credibility of that claim while Shekau has outright rejected it in a video. Nigeria and its neighbours Chad, Niger and Cameroon last month launched an unprecedented joint campaign against the Nigeria-based Boko Haram group, after the militants widened their offensive with attacks in the neighbouring countries. read more @ www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/it-is-in-abubakar-shekaus-interest-to-surrender-we-know-where-he-is-says-deby/ |

The military on Friday made further gains in its offensive against the terrorist Boko Haram sect by routing them from Bara, the headquarters of Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State and Gulak, the headquarters of Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. This is coming on the heels of reports that the military is fast closing in on the dreaded leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau, whose double had been reported killed twice since the declaration of the States of Emergency in 2013. On the same day, President Goodluck Jonathan expressed confidence that Nigerian troops would sustain the momentum built up in the ongoing full scale operations against the terrorists Boko Haram sect. Aside from Gulak and Bara liberated by the military, other locations also cleared in the course of the two-day operation against the terrorists in the North-east included Shikah, Fikayel, Tetebah, Buza, Kamla and Bumsa. According to a statement from the military authorities, fierce fighting that preceded the clearing of the towns and other communities resulted in appreciable casualties on the side of the terrorists. Residents of Gulak taking refuge in Yola, the state’s capital went into wild jubilation when news filtered in that their local government had been liberated. Madagali was among the seven local government areas of the state captured by the Boko Haram insurgents last year but six were liberated by the troops leaving Madagali in the hands of the insurgents until yesterday when it was also liberated. The residents expressed gratitude to President Jonathan for boosting the morale of the troops during his visits to the state on Thursday adding that the visit had impacted on the fight against the insurgents. One of the residents, who simply identified himself, Mallam Musa said they got the news of the liberation of Gulak on BBC Hausa news and their men who were still living on mountain tops, who also called to break the good news to them. Meanwhile, the military is fast closing in on the dreaded leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau. Intelligence sources disclosed to THISDAY that Shekau had been cornered but could not yet be taken out because of the use of captured girls, women and children as shield by him. A top intelligence source, who doesn't want to give more details because of the sensitive nature of the operation, noted that "Shekau's operational areas had been depleted and the military are ever closer to locating him". "The military knows where he is but the truth is that he is using some of the captives as shield," the source said. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/military-liberates-gulak-others-closes-in-on-shekau/202928/ |
Governor Abiola Ajimobi has steered the ship of Oyo State since 2011. There have been claims and counter-claims on the performance of his administration. In this interview, he speaks on his achievements. But will the achievements enable him to win the March 28 election and be the first governor to govern the state twice in succession? Looking at the governorship candidates in the forthcoming elections in the state, you have two former governors, you as well as others. Do you think you can break the jinx of being the first governor to govern this state twice? There is always a first time to everything. There had never been Governor Ajimobi in Oyo State and the first one we have now will be the first to govern the state twice. It will become history that the first Ajimobi did two terms. Two, you said candidates or contestants. The beauty there is that two of the co-contestants had been governors before and we ran election together and I defeated them. What is the big deal? We are contesting this election again and I am going to defeat them. Another beauty is the record of all of us. If you look at the bedrock of governance, which is safety and security, which other governor has done that? During their tenures, we witnessed brigandage, violence and other vices and Oyo State was seen as a pariah state. The state nobody outside there wanted to go to. Today, if you compare my tenure with Adebayo Alao-Akala’s and Rashidi Ladoja’s times, who has been able to bring peace to this state? If that is the only thing we achieved, it is enough because the foundation of growth and development anywhere in the world is peace and tranquility. Do you want to go back to those dark days when fear, insecurity and uncertainty enveloped the state? Do you not like the way you are sleeping well? Those who want to come back, ask them what they achieved when they were there. We have given more welfare. People talk of stomach infrastructure, we have done stomach infrastructure more than any other government. During the time of Ladoja and Akala, they drove people away from Elekuro and Aperin , Iwo Road. Did they give them any shop? We are the first government to remove people from the roadsides and under tension wire and built shops for them free of charge. Let any government challenge me if it had done that. Not only that, we provided money for them to trade at no interest and it is money that is unlikely to be recovered. We spent up to N500m on that. Every other month, we spend close to N2b giving widows and other people food free. We are changing Oyo State. House of Representatives Minority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, doused tension on Thursday when he apologised to the House over the scathing remarks he made against the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha. “I withdraw that portion where I called him the deputy speaker of a political party. “We should be accommodating of each other as a House,” he told his colleagues. The session was presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal. The All Progressives Congress leader from Lagos State had on Wednesday vowed that APC members would no longer accord Ihedioha respect as deputy speaker. He had accused Ihedioha of being “partisan” and a Peoples Democratic Party deputy speaker, rather than the deputy speaker of the whole of Nigeria. He had stated, “What you saw today (Wednesday) is yet another indication of what the PDP has brought on our country. “We have a deputy speaker who has never hidden his partisanship. “He has always taken sides with the PDP, compared to the speaker (Tambuwal), who sees himself as the Speaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” Gbajabiamila was referring to the developments, which led to Wednesday’s rowdy session in the House. APC and PDP lawmakers had since Thursday last week, disagreed over the deployment of the military for election duties. It was Gbajabiamila, who moved a motion seeking to halt such deployment. While the APC members supported the motion, their PDP colleagues opposed it on the grounds that it was a matter before the courts. In a bid to resolve the disagreement, Tambuwal had referred the motion to the joint Committees on Rules/Business, Judiciary and Justice for advice. The three committees are chaired by Mr. Albert Sam-Tsokwa (PDP); Mr. Aminu Shagari (APC); and Mr. Ali Ahmad (APC) respectively. However, trouble started on Wednesday after Sam-Tsokwa presented the report of the joint committees to the House. The committees reported that though the details of the court cases on the issue were not available to them, it was the tradition of the House not to interfere with matters pending before the courts. Besides, the committees observed that under the 1999 Constitution, the President was empowered to deploy troops for the purpose of ensuring public safety in any part of the country. “We are of the firm view that this motion is effectively caught in the cobwebs of the constitution and the House rules. “On this ground, this motion cannot continue”, Sam-Tsokwa told the House. Before apologising to the House on Thursday, however, the APC leader had recalled how the House started as a united force in 2011. He regretted that as the tenure of members drew closer to the end, things had so fallen apart among them that they merely saw themselves as either APC or PDP. He received a resounding applause from the floor for his decision to apologise to the House. Tambuwal, on his part, advised members to place national interest above selfish and partisan interests. The Speaker, who is the governorship candidate of the APC in Sokoto State, seized the opportunity to present the governorship candidates of the PDP and APC in the House to members. The candidates, aside himself, are Ihedioha (PDP, Imo State); Mr. Dakuku Peterside (APC, Rivers State); and Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (PDP, Enugu State). The four shook hands and raised their hands up in a show of solidarity and unity. www.punchng.com/news/troops-deployment-gbajabiamila-apologises-to-ihedioha-house/ |

In our series of columns from African journalists, Ghanaian Elizabeth Ohene, a member of the main opposition NPP, raises concerns about Nigeria's future as it battles an Islamist-led insurgency in the north and prepares for tightly contested elections. If you are a Ghanaian, you tend to worry about Nigeria. Some would say we Ghanaians have enough on our own plates to keep us fully occupied with worry. The Ghanaian economy is currently facing severe "challenges", to use the preferred terminology of government spokespersons. We are in the midst of the longest power crisis that our country has ever known and tempers are short all around as we try to cope with the outages that have become part of life now. 'Ugly episodes' And yet we worry about Nigeria. It has something to do with our histories - the tendency to mimic each other. Even though Nigeria is much bigger in every way, a healthy rivalry has always existed between our countries. One of my favourite Ghanaian politicians put it like this: "Our two countries, Nigeria and Ghana, are like siblings. We quarrel and disagree occasionally but we love each other. Indeed, it always comes as a surprise to realise that we do not have a common border. "There have been ugly episodes like when we expel citizens of each other from our countries and there are healthier and happier events when we clash in sports. An encounter on the football field between our two countries remains one of the best in the world." Those who are superstitious have good cause to hold their breaths when something untoward happens in Nigeria, because that something invariably ends up in Ghana as well. From coups to traffic jams to power outages; where Nigeria leads, Ghana seems to always follow. 'Stomach infrastructure' All those years that our search for oil seemed to be fruitless, we were confident we would eventually strike oil - after all, Nigeria had oil, Ghana must have oil. When we did strike oil in 2007, the most constant refrain on the lips of Ghanaians has been: "Please God, don't let us do with our oil, what Nigeria has been doing with theirs." Ghanaians half-expect that to be the case because we seem to imitate and adopt all the bad habits of our favourite neighbours. In the period leading to the elections that have now been postponed to 28 March, we have been more anxious than ever about Nigeria. Our election campaigns can never be as colourful as the Nigerian ones - we simply don't have that type of money, but we try to emulate a pale version of what they do. I am waiting for a Ghanaian politician to describe the distribution of rice and other such incentives to voters as "building stomach infrastructure", as a Nigerian governor has said in the current campaign. Ghana's political parties do not have the money to match those of Nigeria As a result, parties in Nigeria run far sleeker election campaigns A few weeks ago huge billboards advertising the two main Nigerian political parties suddenly appeared along the streets of Accra, and there was near panic here. The fear was Ghana would be drawn into what many saw as the conflict they feared would follow Nigeria's elections. Pressure was brought on the city authorities and the billboards were removed. 'Trepidation' Rich Nigerians come to our country and treat it as their country home where they can get some peace and quiet. They are reputed to be the ones buying two-bedroom apartments for $1m (£650,000) and sending property prices out of the reach of most Ghanaians. We are following the Nigerian election campaign and the news about the insurgency by militant Islamist group Boko Haram with trepidation. Nigeria has always sounded, looked and felt to us here as the most chaotic place on earth; but we admire them, like to defeat them at football and like to have them as an example of the extreme in everything good and bad. We thought we knew them just as they thought they knew us. But we do not understand this current Nigeria - the Boko Haram phenomenon or the political party realignments that have been taking place. We are in dread of things unravelling in Nigeria and so even though we do have our own problems, we worry about Nigeria. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-31494794 |

From PDP to APC: Atiku, Amaechi, Mbadinuju, Patricia Eteh, Saraki, Nyako, OBJ etc... all criminals From APC to PDP: Shekarau, Ribadu, Buba Maruwa, Bafarawa, Belgore etc ... fine honest gentlemen |
It is no longer news that former president Olusegun Obasanjo has declared his support for Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in the forth coming presidential election in March. He sees Buhari as the best man to lead Nigeria and bring change. He said Buhari is qualified and very competent. He has not hidden his love for the general. And so, after 16 years as a member and 8 years as president in PDP, OBJ is now a “progressive” and an Agent of Change! Let us recall that in 2003, GMB sought to be the president of Nigeria. Back then, he contested with OBJ who was then seeking his 2nd term in office. Why didn’t OBJ just step aside for GMB since he sees him as the best man for the job? Again in 2007, when OBJ was leaving office after failing to get his much desired 3rd term, he brought Yar’adua to succeed him. He did everything he could (remember his do-or-die statement just before the election) to make sure Yar’adua won against this same Buhari. In fact, he practically rigged Yar’adua/Jonathan into office. Why didn’t he just allow Buhari succeed him? Also in 2011, OBJ supported GEJ against the man he now says is our messiah. The question is: what has changed? If Buhari was not good at all for OBJ in 2003, 2007 and 2011, how did he become the best in 2015? Do we really see OBJ as a man of deep patriotic convictions? Is he doing what he’s doing now because he so much loves Nigeria and wants to see her prosper? My answer is capital NO! When he brought Jonathan, out of many candidates, and made him Yar’adua’s VP, was is because he believed that GEJ was the best man for the job? When he also supported GEJ in 2011, was it out of patriotic zeal, knowing that Jonathan will move Nigeria forward? Again my answer is a resounding NO! The truth is that OBJ supported GEJ because he saw him as the least independent-minded of all the candidates and so would be easier to control. “He will be loyal”, he thought. Jonathan has disappointed him so far. GEJ has instead switched his loyalty to the Nigerian nation and her citizens. OBJ watched helplessly as Nigeria slipped out of his control. He couldn’t believe it. The ‘boy’ he brought from relative obscurity, who was supposed to be a puppet, is actually a man and asserting himself! OBJ planned a comeback by plotting for Lamido/Amaechi presidency. This was also frustrated by the ‘Jonathanians’. Since then, OBJ has been livid with anger. His recent outbursts are aimed at getting even wth Jonathan. He doesn’t care if Nigeria burns in the process. His is: if I can’t have it, you can’t have it either. I hope Nigerians will send a clear message to OBJ on 28th March. Let’s send him to his “well-deserved” political irrelevance by voting massively for GEJ. A vote for GEJ is a vote for continued liberty from the hawks. Vote wisely. https://www./Josla/?fref=nf |
