There was no need to plead with GEJ's supporters to be civil even when Buhari campaigned in Bayelsa. It's taken for granted dat PDP supporters would not take laws into their hands. the same cannot be said of buhari's supporters. They behave like their leader! |

Newly married ex-beauty queen, Ibinabo Fiberesima in recent times has shown the strong passion she has for politics. Despite not running for any elective position in the land, the incumbent president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria,AGN, is surely delving into politics. She has been everywhere campaigning for the re- election of President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming elections. In fact, Ibinabo is leaving no stone unturned in her bid to ensure that Mr. President remains in office beyond 2015. During the week, the actress took to her facebook page to explain why Nollywood practitioners have endorsed Jonathan’s re-election bid. She accused Nigerians of being ‘unappreciative’ of Mr. President’s intervention in most sectors of the nation’s economy. According to her, “Let me briefly explain why Nollywood and indeed the creative sector seem to have endorsed GEJ for second tenure. He sets up a $200 million loan scheme residing with bank of Industry and Nexim bank, already accessible to numerous stakeholders, building big screens, DVD/CD replicating plants… Through Project Act initiative, 240 practitioners have benefited in skill enhancement trainings in the US, India, UK, South Africa and Nigeria respectively. I am one of the beneficiaries. Also, he approved film production grant of an average of 7million naira to 120 film producers and directors…I am also a beneficiary of this project. In addition, he provided N2 billion through project Act for the development of Nigerian film distribution among others. No president has demonstrated such huge love, respect and support for the creative sector.” www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/ibinabos-romance-politics-nollywood-endorsed-jonathan/ |
Aggrieved stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state have threatened to leave the party if Senator Julius Ucha remains the party’s governorship flag-bearer, adding that if they still remain in the party, they would work against Ucha as its candidate. However, THISDAY gathered that one of the APC chieftains and former aspirant for Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone, Chief Innocent Ugo Chima, has joined the Peoples Democratic Party because of the leadership crisis in the opposition party. Chima’s defection came as the factional chairman of the party, Sam Igwe and his executives had formerly decamped to the ruling PDP as, according to them, “APC is a shattered boat and has no hope for the Igbos”. The stakeholders in a statement signed by Ebele Bernard, Demian Agwu-Onu alleged that Ucha sponsored thugs to disrupt the governorship primary when he discovered that he was not winning the election. They further called on the national leadership of the APC to address the anomalies because if urgent steps are not taken, they would decamp to other political parties. The statement insisted “that Chief Austin Igwe Edeze should be returned as APC gubernatorial candidate for Ebonyi state in line with the popular yearning of Ebonyi people since Senator Julius Ucha sponsored thugs to disrupt the governorship primary”. “We wish to state categorically that if Ucha remains the APC flagbearer, we will not stop aggrieved stakeholders from defecting to other political parties. We will still be in APC but will work against Ucha if he remains the candidate”, they threatened. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ebonyi-apc-stakeholders-threaten-to-leave-party-if-ucha-remains-guber-candidate/198867/ |
The leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF) Alhaji Asari Dokubo, has said that Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) is a faceless organisation which no longer existed as far as the struggle for people's emancipation in the region is concerned. Speaking against the background of the controversial statement issued last week by MEND endorsing the candidacy of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, the former militant leader described the acronym, MEND as pseudonym being used by the imprisoned Henry Okah to extort money from ignorant persons. Asari Dokubo also said the name Gbomo Jomo, who always signed statements on behalf of MEND, is not known to any nationality in the Niger Delta region. "Our people say birds of the same feathers flock together, it is not strange that this organisation is endorsing Buhari. First, I have always maintained that there is nothing like MEND. "When I was in prison, the organisation I lead, NDPVF, the NDPSF and other organisations came together to stop my arrest and they wanted a faceless organisation. Some guys, including Henry Okah, were sent to me in Kuje prison for us to get a name and to get my opinion on what they were going to do, "I accepted though majority of members of NDPV resisted it, I told them that we should be faceless and so they formed MEND." http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/mend-doesnt-exist-says-asari-dokubo/198920/ |
Civil rights group, The Peoples Forum, PF, has joined the demand for investigation into the alleged funding of the campaign of the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd). The Forum also called for the probe of the purported endorsement of Buhari for the 2015 presidential election by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND). The spokesman of PF, Elias Kaka, said in Lagos, at the weekend, that the probe of the funding of Buhari’s campaign was necessary despite the denial by the Buhari Campaign Organisation, in order to put the records straight. “Despite the denial that Buhari’s campaign is not being bankrolled by some unnamed Arab countries, there is the need for thorough investigation on the matter against the backdrop of the extant security challenges and the purported islamization of the country by some faceless groups”, the spokesman said. Last year, Boko Haram had agreed to dialogue with the Federal Government only if such dialogue be held in Saudi Arabia and Buhari be appointed as an intermediary. This had raised dust and suspicion of a likely Arab connection. But the Buhari Campaign Organisation denied being funded by any foreign organization, dismissing as ‘laughable’ reports that he was awaiting funds from unnamed Arab establishments/ countries to prosecute his campaign. Kaka said the endorsement by MEND lent credence to the suspicion to the growing concern for further investigation. “On Tuesday, the spokesman of MEND, Jomo Gbomo, in a statement, claimed that the militant group had endorsed Gen. Buhari for the 2015 presidential election, launching a scorching attack on President Goodluck Jonathan,”the PF spokesperson said. “But President Jonathan has dismissed the alleged endorsement of Buhari by MEND, saying no person who means well for the country should be excited by the endorsement of a terrorist organization. “Despite this, the issues need thorough investigation to set the records straight considering the insecurity challenges the country is being faced and in order to avoid heating up the polity. The election is around the corner, anything that will set the country ablaze must be avoided”, the PF said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/pressure-on-probe-of-buhari-campaign-funding-grows/ |
Yes fighting corruption is not all abt jailing pple u perceive to be corrupt without trial. Buhari did it as a military head of state he can't try it now. OK after jailing those so called corrupt pple, did corruption stop? The best way to fight corruption is to make it difficult to happen in d 1st place. that's GEJ's strategy. Prove: Check Transparency International 's rating of Nigeria b4 Jonathan and what it is now. we used to be 2nd most corrupt country in the world, but now we're 37th. Significant improvement! |
Nigeria's former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, 71, is not a quitter Defeated in the last three elections, he has returned to contest the highest office. Mr Buhari will face incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, who is from the southern Niger Delta region, for a second time at the polls in February. It looks set to be a close race as on this occasion the Muslim northerner has been chosen as the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, formed last year after four opposition parties merged. The APC has also been attracting heavyweight defectors from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), which has dominated the political scene since the end of military rule in 1999. Mr Buhari has always been popular among the poor of the north (known as the "talakawa" in the north's Hausa language). Now some feel his military background and his disciplinarian credentials are just what the whole country needs to get to grips with the Islamist insurgency in the north. A Muslim from Daura in Katsina State, who has given his support to Sharia in the north, Mr Buhari has previously had to deny allegations that he has a radical Islamist agenda. This proved a problem for him in the 2003 polls - he failed to secure much support among Christians in the south, where he was viewed with some suspicion. But having escaped an attack on his convoy in Kaduna in July, which bore all the hallmarks of a Boko Haram assassination attempt, he has promised to end the insurgency within months if elected. He has blamed President Jonathan's weakness for its escalation and has refused overtures to participate in talks with the radical militant group. His tough stance as a military commander in 1983 - when some Nigerian islands were annexed in Lake Chad by Chadian soldiers - is still remembered in the north-east, now the militants' stronghold, after he blockaded the area and drove off the invaders. 'War Against Indiscipline' He ruled Nigeria from January 1984 until August 1985, taking charge after a military coup in December 1983. It is a period remembered for a strict campaign against indiscipline and corruption, and for its human rights abuses. The verdict on Mr Buhari's 20 months as Nigeria's leader is mixed. About 500 politicians, officials and businessmen were jailed as part of a campaign against waste and corruption. Some saw this as the heavy-handed repression of military rule. But others remember it as a praiseworthy attempt to fight the endemic graft that prevented Nigeria's development. He retains a rare reputation for honesty among Nigeria's politicians, both military and civilian, largely because of this campaign. As part of his "War Against Indiscipline", he ordered Nigerians to form neat queues at bus stops, under the sharp eyes of whip-wielding soldiers. Civil servants who were late for work were publicly humiliated by being forced to do frog jumps. He also introduced a notorious decree to restrict press freedom, under which two journalists were jailed. However, his attempts to re-balance public finances by curbing imports led to many job losses and the closure of businesses. As part of anti-corruption measures, he also ordered that the currency be replaced - the colour of the naira notes were changed - forcing all holders of old notes to exchange them at banks within a limited period. Prices rose while living standards fell, leading to a palace coup by Gen Ibrahim Babangida on 27 August 1985. Mr Buhari was imprisoned for 40 months. Mr Babangida wanted to speed up the restoration of civilian rule, which Mr Buhari did not see as a priority. 'Up to the people' Mr Buhari has continued to defend his military coup of 31 December 1983. "It is up to the people. If you choose correct leadership, there won't be any need for the military regime. "The military came in when it was absolutely necessary and the elected people had failed the country," he said in October 2005. When former President Olusegun Obasanjo was a military ruler in the 1970s, Mr Buhari held the key post of minister of petroleum affairs. But the relationship between the former colleagues cooled as Mr Buhari's coup ousted a civilian government, led by Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who won elections organised by Mr Obasanjo. This led to continuing questions about Mr Buhari's commitment to democracy. Relations between the two former generals may now thaw following what seems to be an endorsement for Mr Buhari from Mr Obasanjo in his recently released autobiography. Mr Buhari "would not be a good economic manager", wrote the politician who won two presidential elections for the PDP after 1999 , but "will be a strong, almost inflexible, and a courageous and firm leader". m.bbc.com/news/world-africa-12890807 |

For those asking for source, see 4urself... It looks like this is some kinds of the dividends of democracy, at least you have the freedom to say whatever your choice is. Prof. Wole Soyinka is here again! Ask him what he think about Goodluck Jonathan retaining his seat in ASO rock, and you would be surprised to hear him paint Jonathan in the way you never think is possible. “Even though I have said it time and time again that the president should control his wife but there is something significant about Mr. President. He is the first president without any ties to the military mafia. All his children are in schools here in Nigeria. You cannot come across a skyscraper in any corner of Nigeria and people will tell you it belongs to him; even a seven storey building. I strongly believe that GEJ is a phenomenal change from before and if we cannot find a better, young alternative, then we must remain with him until we can groom someone better. This is no time to go back to the military mafia and go back to our vomit” In essence, he is repeating the popular adage that the “Devil you know is better than an Angel you know nothing about” The year 2015 is less than a month to go and the presidential election is just around the corner, Like every other elections, it has to be contested and there must be winners and losers. http://constative.com/politics/prof-wole-soyinka-clears-goodluck-president-2015 http://www.nigeriatell.com/news/prof-wole-soyinka-endorses-goodluck-jonathan-for-2015#.VK-wVoMo_Jt |
The United States Government has said there are no signs that Nigeria will disintegrate before, during or after the February general elections. While explaining that Nigeria is facing “big challenges,” the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle, stated that the problems at stake were surmountable. According to the American envoy, Nigerians should “throw out of the window” the idea from “some think-tank or somebody outside the (US) government” stating that Nigeria would fall apart in 2015. Entwistle spoke in Lagos on Thursday during an interactive session with journalists on the recent donation of a US naval ship, christened NNS Okpabana, to the Nigerian Navy. The US diplomat said, “I have been plagued by the question (on Nigeria’s possible disintegration in 2015) and I have gone back to look and I can’t find any government report that said Nigeria would disintegrate in 2015. Maybe some think- tank or somebody outside the government said it; I don’t know. “But in my opinion as the US Ambassador to this country, I am not worried in the least that Nigeria is going to disintegrate in 2015. Regardless of what someone may have said, the question is that we are now here in 2015: Do we see signs that Nigeria is going to disintegrate or fall apart or something? I don’t know what you think. But I don’t see those signs. “But I see signs of growth, optimism and I see that to minimise the challenges that you have, in this life, you have to keep on keeping on and I think the future is quite bright.” Entwistle added that if the Federal Government did what would need to be done in the coming years, especially as pertaining to “security, corruption and all of these things,” the future of Nigeria would be “very bright.” www.punchng.com/news/no-signs-nigeria-will-disintegrate-in-2015-us/ |

And from dat time till now, and as I type dis (more dan 26hrs after my return), the light has not blinked for one second! This is unprecedented in our national history. I pray dis is sustained. THE ONLINE CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE HIERARCHY OF THE NIGERIAN ARMY 26DEC The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a publication on the website of Sahara Reporters with the caption “Nigerian Army Presents Unverified “Lt Col” To Refute Petition Against Military Hierarchy”. It is noteworthy but sad and unfortunate that Sahara Reporters has committed itself to support for terrorism and fighting Nigeria, its people, its military and particularly the Nigerian Army. Before Sahara Reporters published their purported document described as petition from Lt Col Wende, a serving Commanding Officer, the Nigerian Army conducted a thorough investigation on the document involving other security and intelligence agencies. The process confirmed that the serving officer was not the author of the petition. Yesterday, the officer dissociated himself from the so-called petition in a press conference he personally attended. While reputable media organizations were on hand to engage the officer, Sahara Reporters being a faceless medium, preferred to remain faceless and was not represented. Sahara Reporters sadly, but predictably, and in fulfilment of its support for terrorism published in its website a fabrication in which it referred to the officer as “unverified”. How absurd! Sahara Reporters has strived hard to present itself as a propaganda medium for terrorism and Boko Haram in particular. It is with this in mind, that the Nigerian Army conducted a press conference in Maiduguri in which the officer who appeared for the press conference is Lt Col Wende, a serving officer of the Nigerian Army. Since the officer has clearly dissociated himself from the document, it makes sense that the so-called petition is the handiwork of Sahara Reporters. With time, terrorism in Nigeria and Sahara Reporters will be defeated by the collective will of the good people of Nigeria. A renowned Kaduna-based Islamic cleric and scholar, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, has reacted to the arrest of a 13-year-old girl, Zahrau Babangida, who was ready to ‘die as a martyr’ by committing a suicide bombing. In a statement published on his official Facebook page on December 26, 2014, Friday, Sheikh Gumi reminded that it was the biological father of the girl who forced her to step on the pass of mass murder. However, the cleric emphasised that roots of the problem are deeper than simple persuation of innocent children by the jihadists.“It’s the problem of the society that venerate ignorance,” Sheik Gumi noted. “Ours – I mean the northern Muslims especially – is a case of self-anihilation. Worst still we don’t enjoy the only ‘virtue of ignorance’ which is to accept you don’t know hence you seek for proper knowledge. Our ignorance is compound. We don’t know that we don’t know. Talk less of seeking for knowledge. “The religion we claim to know is the first that condemns us. We are heretics, superstitious and many of us heathens. We can only bark, revile, abuse and foam. In the end we commit suicide. All because we refuse to learn and accord knowledge the reverence it deserves. “Imagine people annihilating themselves by refusing vaccination. Even if the majority has agreed, the point is that it lacks the leadership dexterity to convince or forces the others into doing the proper thing. We are now the shame of mankind. From among us the polio virus has an abode and a settlement to reinfect humanity again. “For long we rejected modern education – I dare call it Western – where as Islam was the precursor and catalyst of modernism. Name it medicine, law, astronomy, mathematics etc. Even if the majority has accepted it, the point is that we lack the leadership acumen to divert most of our resources to augment education. We spend billions on entra Hajj and Umra and polygamous male chauvinistic stunts than pay attention to want is more preferential to our religious obligations and worldy achievements. “Our choice is seldom anything but sentimental. Our temperament is reactionary not proactive. Our ignorance has become the honeycomb of our leaders, religious or otherwise. If not how can the poor illetrates be convinved to make a trek miles in scorching sun seeking for blessings without Divine counsel? How can people cling to false hopes for salvation, crimes and criminals for emancipation? You don’t kill if you want to survive and you don’t deceive if you don’t want to be deceived. This is the golden rule of life. “In this people, Zahrau Babangida was born 13 years ago. So there is little or no wonder. We have to be true to ourselves. If it’s poverty that is tormenting to us stupidity let us know that the poverty is because of our doing. We had enough resources to build our selves but our priority is somewhere else. We have geniuses, doctors, engineers, teachers etc but they all are under the spell of an ignorant people. Their strategy is just ‘Shut up!’ to save your skin. But I say No speak up to save a nation. Let us properly educate ourselves. It’s the only lasting remedy to our predicament.” It would be added that the girl revealed Boko Haram extremists threatened to bury her and other girls alive in case of refusal to embark on a suicide mission. Zahrau remains in custody, while the police and security operatives continue investigations. Currently they are looking for the father of the girl, who allegedly belongs to Boko Haram. http://www.naij.com/349992-sheikh-gumi-speaks-on-arrest-of-13yo-girl-jihadist-in-kano.html |

Obiagelli:All this is abt who to vote for in 2015, GMB or GEJ. U opened dis trade to make us accept Buhari as president. That's why ur friends are calling on 'Jonathanians' to respond. Why are they not calling on "Mu'azuans". Mu'azu is not contesting for anything... we'll talk abt him when he declares for preident. |
The last time I checked, Mu'azu is not campaigning to be president of Nigeria He may have signed Sharia into law but has never advocated for its enforcement throughout the country the way Buhari did (fundamentalism is trying to force ur believes on every other person). Note: we are not comparing Buhari and Mu'azu. it is GMB vs GEJ |
Indications have emerged that all is not well in the All Progressives Congress (APC) as plans are being devised to unseat the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, following what some sources described as his roles in the just concluded national convention of the party. THISDAY gathered that Oyegun is being targeted by two forces within the party who are not happy with his role during the national convention. One of the forces is said to be angling for what its leaders described as a, “balancing act,” while the other is said to be aggrieved that the Oyegun truncated an earlier plan to feature a Muslim/Muslim ticket. It was gathered that the camp loyal to Rivers State Governor, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, is angling for what is described as a “balancing act” within the party, following the emergence of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as the running mate to General Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 contest. The group, according to sources in the party is claiming that since the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) faction of the party led by Buhari has picked the presidential slot, while the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) side of the merger has also picked the vice-presidential slot, the governors’ camp led by Amaechi should now be allowed to pick the chairman. Though Oyegun was only elected in June, one of the sources had claimed that the party can effect a balancing act by calling an extra-ordinary convention. Another source in the party claimed that some leaders of the party are not happy with Oyegun for failing to back the Muslim/Muslim ticket option, believed to be capable of providing the party with its strongest hands. It was gathered that the target of the Muslim/Muslim ticket was the former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu, who is believed could provide massive votes from the South-west. Oyegun’s sins according to this group is that he failed to strongly defend the option and allowed some young elements from the North to force the party’s hands and drive it away from the Muslim/Muslim option. But so far, there appears to be no agreement in the works as to the possible timing of the bid against the chairman. Sources said that three meetings, one in Abuja and two in Lagos, have been held to strategise on the plot on how and when it would be expedient. While some people have argued that his removal now would have minimal effect on the elections, some had insisted that nothing can be done before the election. The group described its anger thus: “When the chips were down he (Oyegun) refused to stand up to defend the Muslim-Muslim ticket, one of the conditions the informed his emergence as the party chairman. He allowed some people to browbeat the party with arguments. Whereas those from the South-west insisted that they want to put their best foot forward. “Some of us are angry because we brought him in to stabilise things. We are weighing the effects of his planned removal now to the fortunes of the party at the polls but we are determined to press on. “We made him the chairman and when it was pay back time he joined the ‘opposition’ in the name of populist agitation against Muslim/Muslim ticket.” Those clamouring for balancing act to accommodate Amaechi and the governors also said that the group can be pacified for its loss of the vice-presidential slot through the emergence of Chief Sam Sam Jaja, who is also from the South-south. It was however confirmed that opinions were clearly divided on the possibility of stoking the “fire” in a party that is angling to contest a major election against the ruling party. Some of those opposed to any planned move against Oyegun were said to have insisted that any move against him would indicate that the some interested leaders of the party produced Oyegun out of selfish reasons. Some people who have heard of this development are saying that does it mean that his emergence as Chairman was predetermined fulfill certain ends. “It is good this is coming out. I can assure you a number of us will oppose it. Does it mean that he was brought in against popular will? Some people left the Party while some just moaned and stayed on after the June convention that produced him. Does it mean he was brought in to help actualise an ambition for the VP slot. We are waiting,” the source said. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/plot-to-unseat-oyegun-uncovered/197648/ |
