Have you been following this thread before? do you know of any one been turned down by DIAC?
You can move in as couple only if the duration of study is beyond a year..... if you are planning to move in with your partner, simply apply for advanced diploma... it makes sense that way.

I concur, but that program has to be a direct to degree advanced diploma program (D2D) and nobody will want to go for that one except someone without a BSc degree and BSc in Australia for a foreigner isn't a small thing.

I got admitted already, just waiting to get started. I am heading to Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and since the school has wide link with most of these top-rated schools worldwide, I want to wait till I reach there before I start compiling my potential supervisors.
Nice one, i am glad. That's cool, you stand a good chance. I hope it isn't too expensive.....Goodluck to you bro. When are you to resume?

Oke, how far with studies? Were you able to get the links I sent? Have you started. Contacting those professors yet or you are still chilling? I will start doing so by next year and will intensify more on getting high grades.
Everything you stated here is correct. Like you said, school reputation and grades matter most to get funding available. Many people go for masters by research and coursework while a few will do for Phd, hence funding for doctoral students for them, but still based on performance at their masters degree or undergraduate degree (first class).
My brother, thanks so much i am on it and i am praying to God for a good grade. I haven't started contacting the professors, i am still collecting list of names of prospective supervisors from different universities. What is important now is getting a good grade. How about your masters admission? You need not waste time, if you can get a reputable school here in Nigeria, you will be accepted for Ph.d, i am sure of that. I wish us luck.

Last time I checked, only universities did SVP.
Except the TAFE programme leads to a degree. An event where you are to proceed for a degree course having completed TAFE. The TAFE offer must come along with an offer for a degree on completion. Such TAFE institutions must have an agreement with a university on the particular course you are going in for.

Yeah.How was your day?
Well, i just decided to see what's going on in the house and i found some sort of argument about securing scholarships in australia while one is still in Nigeria. It is more than possible. A lecturer that teaches me at masters level now, used one of such scholarships for his Ph.d without doing master's degree because he made a 1st class at undergraduate level from a nigerian university. It all depends on your transcript, the reputation of the school you are coming from and your grade. If you are going for a master's degree by research you will get scholarships if you finished with a fine grade at undergraduate level. Almost every australian university has a postgraduate research scholarship. Schools like melbourne will automatically consider you for all available scholarships if you apply for a research program and i can bet you will definitely get one if your result is a fine one.

Fellow scholar, it's gonna turn out best for you sir. Hope you've started researching about your interest in those institutions? You need to be doing it too, alongside studying. By God's grace, you are finishing strong in your career path (Amen).
I say amen to that my boss, i understand what it takes, i know it requires a strong and meaningful research proposal in the school's area of research interest to get those scholarships. Interest is a great determining factor for getting a scholarship, my eyes are wide open and i am always looking for an area that is open to research where i can make a mark and launch a new thing even as i do the course work. God will be with us.

ednutoyekan: Hey guys, hope you are doing great. Unlike other threads, ours is not a one where we trade abusive words and sorts. We need to respect one another and behave as a family. Who knows...we may end up becoming colleagues. In God's name, all personality attacks should stop forthwith. We don't do such and we won't start it. Besides, we are in a mood of sober reflection for someone that has just been dropped. It is well...best wishes guys!
Hello my friend, i heard what happened and i felt so bad about it. You need nt blame yourself for any actions, whatever happens today is a lesson for tomorrow, If you are destined for GTBANK you are going back in, If not, you are moving ahead to a better place. You care about other people and I'm sure God will always care for you. God will take you to higher places than you ever imagined. Take care my brother. As for me, i have moved ahead with something else since i was dropped at interview. I always remember you and my prayers will always be with you. Please take heart and hope for the best because you deserve the best.

Spain is not even economically good right now. In fact, all these oyibo countries are struggling since the global economic recession started. I don't know why many African youths don't seem to get it that the western world is not what it used to be. I wish they will realize that the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side. Some Africans have no idea that there are many Africans stuck abroad that can't come back home because they can't even afford an airline ticket back to their respective countries even if they wanted to.
Lolz. Why all of una dey talk economy? Unna don ever reason ham say d guy fit wan go play for BARCELONA? As bad as the economy is footballers still make their money. On a serious note though, We pray africa gets better economically and mentally. A typical african man feels any white country is a better place for him to be not considering that your status in your country where you have an original identity will be way better than that of a place you are the son of an unknown man. It requires you starting afresh before you could get to somewhere. Meanwhile, in your country you are somewhere already, you only need that little effort and God's intervention to get better and be who you wanna be. God will help us all.

Is the advanced diploma the equivalence of our HND or PGD?
yes(HND) it is not a PGD you can only use it for another degree and not M.sc , better to go for M.sc if one has the money.

Does mining Engineering involve working in the mines? If it does, then you will have no problem getting your permanent residence through a mining company, neither will you have issues with money cos they pay big. Australia just migrated 1750 Asian miners to come work for them. If it doesn't have you considered doing a course in mining? those people make it big here.

As per school, will keep my eyes open for you.
Thanks a lot.

jennykadry:

1. There are no disadvantages. You stand a better chance to get your PR quickly when you study in a rural/regional town. You find companies willing to sponsor you there because they lack workers.

2. Every student(diploma or Higher education) is only entitled to work 40 hours per fortnight and unlimited hours when school is on holidays. No one and I mean, no student gets unlimited hours when school is in session.

3. I know a lot of skilled workers are moving from Queensland to WA perth. Yes, I guess Perth has good employment opportunities

4. Do you want a school that has a tuition fee of 7k per semester?what course are you looking at studying? Also Perth accommodation can be expensive except you choose to share with people. If you are moving with your wife, she can work while you also work and study. Two income is better than one.
Thanks a lot jenny, i am very grateful. I am looking at studying M.sc mechanical engineering, mechatronics or mining engineering. Yes, a school with tuition of around 7k per semester would be perfect. I checked curtin, mechanical engineering is 31k AUD per session and the duration doesn't favour bringing spouse, it's just 1 yr.

Hello jenny, forgive me for asking numerous questions, i discovered one is disadvantaged when studying an advanced diploma. 1) You will never get a chance for unlimited work. and 2) You will be treated as someone belonging to a high risk level. 3) It's also a waste of time since i have my B.tech already. Now, my problem is, i want a place like adelaide or perth with high employment rate and low cost of living and a school that will allow me pay about 7000AUD to issue COE. Could you please help me with that?. I am a graduate mechanical engineer with a B.Tech second class lower division(over 3 points on a 5 point scale).

jennykadry: Note that your wife can only travel with you, if the course is more than 12 months. Less than 12 months, she is not allowed.

1. Your wife is going under your visa, you are the primary visa holder and as such IELTS should not be required.

2. As long as you have met the financial requirement, traveling with a spouse hinders nothing.

3. Whatever amount the visa application is, is what you pay. Like I said, she is going under your visa. Correct me If I am wrong but I thought the visa charge is 535

4.As long as you are legally married and there is a proof, it's fine

5.Now this one I can't help you with. You alone know how much you have in your pocket, some people travel with family members and others leave their family behind and they join later BUT most people that do this have kids. If you don't have kids it is totally different as you don't have to worry about stressing/worrying about your children, where to live, what to eat and all what not.

6. The marriage certificate can cover all that. My Nigerian passport still has my father's name on it, I just could not be bothered. embarassed I suggest though that you try and change it whenever you can, it just makes it easier for yous when you wanno book a flight wink

7. I WILL WRITE THIS IN CAPITAL LETTERS. MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE YOUR WIFE IN YOUR APPLICATION WHETHER SHE IS GOING WITH YOU OR JOINING YOU LATER. IF YOU DO NOT DECLARE HER AS YOUR WIFE IN THE APPLICATION, SHE CANNOT JOIN YOU. SHE CAN ONLY COME TO AUSTRALIA IF SHE APPLIES FOR A STUDENT VISA TO STUDY HERE OR SOMETHING, BUT SHE CANNOT COME UNDER YOUR VISA. SHE DOS NOT NEED A DIFFERENT APPLICATION, JUST ADD HER NAME AS YOUR DEPENDENT FAMILY
. Thanks a lot jenny, i went through immi.gov.au, there seems not to be a place where they mention how my fiance can accompany me to australia- 1) will they ask me in my application who and who are accompanying me? But as you said she will depend on my visa, how does she get her passport stamped so that she can be eligible to travel with me? Is it like when i am forwarding my passport and other documents, i will forward her passport too?

I don't think it matters sisifunmi, having a kid in australia doesn't make your kid a citizen, except one of d kid's parents is a citizen, or the kid spends majority of his time in australia before he clocks 10(years).

Travel / Re: General Australian Visa Enquiries by okesammie: 5:58pm On Jan 14, 2013
Hello jenny, i have a lot of questions and i hope you get the time to look through my questions and answer them all. I am a graduate of engineering and my fiance is a graduate of comp. Science. I am planning to move to australia with her though we ain't yet married. I am qualified for a masters in australia but considering the cost i decided to start with a diploma. Now, my questions are....... 1) will my supposed wife have to do IELTS too? 2) I understand that there will have to be an additional money on the sponsor's account if i am travelling with a spouse,If we have all d money required in my sponsor's account, can travelling with a spouse have any effect and/or hinder granting visa? 3)I understand that the visa application fee is around 575 dollars, will it change if one is travelling with a spouse and what's the cost of medicals for two people and d cost of VHS service? 4) we are planning to have the marriage certificate ready(get married) prior to visa application- say like a month. Is that allowed? 5)Is it a fine idea to travel with someone when you are going for the first time? Would it not be difficult? 6)My fiance has her father's name on her passport, will it be necessary to obtain a new passport that bears my name having been married or the marriage certificate can cover for all that? Your response to all my questions will really be appreciated. Thanks.
