At the meeting, the group appealed to Pres. Buhari to be fair in his fight against corruption and ensure that due process is followed in the proposed probe of the last administration. Speaking to state house correspondents after the meeting, Rev Kukah who was part of the delegation said "It (the way corruption war is being fought) is not heating up the polity. In our conversation with President Jonathan and members of the parties, I don’t think any Nigerian is in favour of corruption or is against the President’s commitment to ensuring that we turn a new leaf. I think what we are concerned about is the process. It is no longer a military regime and under our existing laws, everybody is innocent until proven guilty. Again, our own commitment is not to intimidate or fight anybody, the former President’s commitment and what he did still remains spectacular and I think that President Buhari himself appreciates that. So, our effort really is to make sure that the right thing is done.” http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/photo-ayo-oritsejafor-abdulsalam-others.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove |

The Plantashun Boiz were once the biggest contemporary act in Nigeria. The trio of 2Face, Faze and Blackface were the subject of many a teenage girl’s fantasies with their list of hit songs such as ‘Don’t U Know’, ‘You And I’ and ‘Knock Me Off’ in the late 90s and early 00s. Following their breakup in the middle of the previous decade, their musical journeys took different routes with all three members going solo. On Saturday August 1 at the IBB Square in Makurdi, Benue State, 2Face and Faze came together for a rare stage reunion at the Star Music Trek 2015 #MakurdiRocks concert. The concert, which was a homecoming of sorts for Benue State homeboy 2Face was packed to the rafters with thousands of expectant fans eager to set eyes on their hometown hero. After performing several of his hits, he surprised the crowd by inviting erstwhile bandmate Faze onstage and then the evening got really intense. The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed dismay at claims President Muhammadu Buhari was begging former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, to accept an appointment into the Federal Government cabinet. Amaechi reportedly claimed this past weekend Buhari had implored him to accept the position of Minister of Federal Republic of Nigeria or Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Rivers State's PDP chapter said if the claims were true, this would be tantamount to glorifying corruption, and which also exposes the President's fight against corruption as anti-people and targeted at only members of the PDP. The PDP, insisting that the former Governor of Rivers State, Mr Amaechi, is corrupt and has raped the State in an extreme manner, expresses reservations over the President's stance, and his tolerance of the APC chieftain," Jerry Needam, Spokesperson to Rivers State PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah, said. He alleged Amaechi had at several fora boosted that he was a dependable ally of the President and also a prospective ministerial appointee for either the Defence Ministry or Ministry of Petroleum. Similarly, the party said it was also amazed at the manner Amaechi's alleged corrupt and fraudulent actions were continually being celebrated by his lieutenants, the APC folks in Rivers State and Abuja. Needam said PDP made bold to say that under Amaechi as Governor, corruption was legalized and institutionalized. He claimed there were obvious evidence attesting to the validity of this position and the PDP is fully ready to provide prove of its claims. Comment could not be obtained from the APC and The Presidency. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/pdp-denounce-claims-amaechi-is.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove |

Press statement from the PDP below... The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wishes to bring to the notice of President Buhari that the apparent absence of an economic team in the third month of his administration is leading the country into economic quagmire and doldrums. In the past, we had given examples of the devastating effect of lack of an economic team and a clear-cut fiscal policy by this administration as evidenced in the lull and painful decline in the stock market, spiral rate of inflation, the disastrous outing of the government team in bilateral talks during the recent visit to the United States of America and the shambolic state of our economy at present. This confusion has been extended to operations and regulations of the foreign exchange transactions in Nigeria wherein the government is making it impossible for honest Nigerians to engage in free trade and regulate their personal activities as guaranteed by the constitution, and this is clearly an agenda to illegally impose a communist economic regime on Nigerians. In a desperate attempt to create a semblance of movement out of the clearly motionless and stoic state of affairs of this government, they have reeled out bans and complete clampdown on free trade. One begins to wonder therefore whether we are not heading back to the era of import duty licenses and regulation of commodity prices. The most disturbing aspect of this communist economic agenda is the illegal and unlawful attempt to repeal the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring And Miscellaneous Provisions Act, otherwise known as Decree No 17 of 1995 and replace it with unilateral imposition of new regulations. This Act remains the subsisting law regulating the operations of domiciliary accounts in Nigeria and by its provisions therefore, Nigerians are empowered to freely open and operate domiciliary accounts. As such, any enactment and or regulation inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are deemed void. Thus, the recent foreign exchange transaction restrictions by this government are illegal, unlawful and void. Besides the provisions of the law, the PDP declares this administration’s archaic communist economic agenda as unworkable and unsustainable. Finally, we wish to remind Mr. President that this is 2015 and not 1984; we remind him that trade and import restrictions are archaic and outdated; and we remind him that we are practicing a proper democracy and not the dictatorship of the politburo under a communist regime. Signed; Chief Olisa Metuh National Publicity Secretary http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/mr-president-you-are-wrong-on.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove |

The Chief Priest of Oduduwa and Obadio Agbaye Orisun of Yoruba land, Oba Farotimi Faroba, has dismissed the reported arrival of remains of Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, to Ile-Ife, Osun. Faroba told NAN on Sunday in Ile-Ife that the Ooni was hale and healthy. “Ooni is hale and healthy, and that is to confirm to you that nothing has happened to him. “And if he is still alive why the rumuor that his remains has arrived in the ancient town? “Ooni’s death cannot be hidden,” he added. “Assuming his reported death is true, you will notice crowd at the main palace gate, while the gate would be locked and no one will be allowed to enter. “Also, the Oduduwa chief priest will announce the demise of the Ooni upon sounding of a bell at Enuwa square located in front of the palace. “After the announcement, all the trees in the market would be cut; markets would be closed while all forms of merrymaking such as drumming or partying would be suspended in town for a number of days,” he explained. Faroba said since Ooni is still alive there was no need to perform any of the rites. According to him, the wedding of one of the Ooni’s sons which was slated for August 2 in Lagos still went ahead as planned to confirm that the monarch is still alive. “Ooni is second in command to the deities and if anything happen to him, the 200 gods and goddesses would be aware before Oduduwa chief priest would announce it. “I am saying all these to confirm to you that Ooni is still alive,” Faroba said.
