11 people were on Thursday burnt to death in an auto crash that occurred along Ile-Ife/Ondo road in Ondo State.


Eight other persons sustained serious injuries in the auto crash.

The accident was caused by the recklessness and over speeding of drivers of the affected vehicles.



The incident occurred when one of the tyres of the car burst and the driver lost control after which it collided with a commercial bus from the opposite direction and immediately the two vehicles cut fire and went up in flame.


Survivors of the accident were rushed to the Trauma Hospital in Ondo town where they were receiving medical treatment.

A 22-year-old daughter of a senior police officer serving in Lagos State, Mary Atiake, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Prison by an Ejigbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for inflicting severe injuries on the face of another woman, Sarah Ogunyemi, for sleeping with her boyfriend identified simply as Joe.

It was gathered that Atiake met Ogunyemi in her lover’s house at Olowo Close in Igando area of the state and a fight ensued between them over the young man, resulting in her picking up a razor blade and lacerating her rival’s face.

Those close to the lover boy reveal that Joe had been going out with Atiake for over a year but along the line, he also started going out with Ogunyemi but always denied he had anything to do with her anytime Atiake confronted him.

So on the fateful day, she went to his house early in the morning unannounced and met the new girl in a nightgown, still sleeping.

She then went out to buy the blade and during the fight, brought it out and attacked the rival.

The victim was said to have bled profusely from her wounds and was rushed to the Igando General Hospital for treatment while the matter was reported at the Igando Police Division and Atiake was arrested.

She will be in prison custody till July 29, 2015, when her case will be heard.

But in a twist, another close friend of the randy Joe says he has since dumped the two warring women for another woman.

The Kaduna State Police Command, on Thursday said it had arrested more than 100 beggars and hawkers in Kaduna metropolis, following the state government’s ban on such activities.

The ban on begging and hawking was on Tuesday announced by the government of the north western Nigerian state as part of security measures it adopted after a suicide attack in Zaria which claimed 27 lives.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Zubairu Abubakar told NAN in Kaduna that the arrest followed massive raid on major streets of the state capital.

Abubakar said those arrested included hawkers and some physically challenged persons caught begging on the street.

“The ban on street hawking and begging is a state law, ours as law enforcement agency is to make sure it is obeyed.

“We will do everything humanly possible to ensure that every person adheres to the law,” he said.

According to him, the police will handover the arrested persons to the state Enviromental Protection Agency, which will liaise with relevant bodies to transfer them to Kakuri Rehabilitation Centre.

The police spokesman said the command had taken strict measures and deployed its personnel “to raid streets in order to arrest those who violate the order.”

Abubakar solicited the cooperation of the general public in fighting crime in the state, and reminded the residents on the need to be vigilant.

He urged the public to report suspicious movements to nearest police station.

The National Emergency Management Agency has called for blood donation for the victims of Tuesday bomb attack in Sabon Gari local government area of Kaduna State.



The agency’s spokesperson, Manzo Ezekiel, in a statement said the Director General, Sani Sidi, has urged the general public to help donate blood for the victims currently receiving treatment at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika.



Mr. Manzo said the number of fatalities have also risen to 26 while 33 others were injured in the explosion that occurred at the Sabon Gari Local Government Secretariat, Zaria on Tuesday morning.

The attack came hours after a suicide bomb attack at a Mosque in Kano on Monday; details of the have not been made public by authorities.

THE Association of Resident Doctors (ARDs), Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), has suspended its strike to attend to the urgent medical needs of victims of the twin bomb blasts in Jos, Plateau State.

Dr Meshack Daniel, Secretary, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Plateau State, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that this was to enable the doctors give adequate medical attention to the victims.

Daniel said that the NMA was assisting in coordinating the management of casualties recorded from the blasts.

"As you are aware, resident doctors in JUTH have been on strike, but because of the situation on ground, we have discussed with a view to suspending the strike.

"This is to enable us assist in taking care of the injured victims. We are happy the doctors have obliged, and indeed suspended the strike, for the benefit of humanity," he said.

Daniel said that most hospitals in Jos city centre were overwhelmed with patients due to the large number of victims of the blasts.

He also said that the NMA was doing everything possible to mobilise drugs and consumables for the patients and that donations were also coming from people.

44 people have been confirmed dead following a twin bomb blast that rocked the city of Jos, Plateau state yesterday night. The first explosion happened inside the Shagalinku restaurant located along Bauchi Road while the second one went off at Yantaya Mosque in Nassarawa Gwon area of the state. Muslim faithfuls were actually listening to an Islamic message when the bomb went off.

According to the Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Abdussalam Mohammed, 67 people were injured in both attack.

The President wholly condemns the resumption of attacks by terrorists on places of worship which are highly revered places of prayer and communion with God for most Nigerians.

The President reaffirms his administration’s total commitment to doing everything possible to eradicate Boko Haram, terrorism and mindless extremism from Nigeria in the shortest possible time.
President Buhari assures all Nigerians that terrorism will ultimately be defeated and full security restored in all parts of the country for people to safely practice their respective faiths with liberty wherever they may reside in the nation.


The Constitution gives all Nigerians that right and the present administration will deploy all required force and resources to protect citizens’ right to freedom of worship.

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, has disclosed from his base in the United States that he is yet to receive any official letter from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) informing him of his dismissal.



The NFF released a press statement on Saturday night confirming that it had sacked the former Eagles skipper two months after he signed a new two-year deal as head coach of the Nigerian national team.



Keshi has also said he would go to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) to seek redress.



“I haven’t received any letter to that effect. Today is Saturday, anyway,” Keshi told newsmen shortly after the NFF announcement.



“They think their deceit will fool Nigerians? We’ll meet in CAS where justice will prevail,” he said.

Michael David, a 31-year-old from Delta state reportedly murdered his wife then and reported himself to the police after he confessed to the killing, stating that his actions was the handiwork of the devil.
The suspect was involved in a fight with the victim, Oyinyechi Dennis, when he allegedly stabbed her to death at Ojoku area of Lagos.

It was learned that Michael, a carpenter, was spreading untrue rumours about his wife which led to a confrontation between two.

He narrated what happened on the said day.

“Oyinye is the mother of my son, although I did not marry her legally but when she became pregnant for me, I went to her aunty and uncle who she was living with for introduction.

’We then started living together. But we had a misunderstanding and then she packed out of my house.

“On Tuesday morning, Onyinye came to my house, I thought she just came to visit me but I later saw her mood and knew something was wrong. She confronted me with an issue she heard. She said I was spreading rumour about her living a wayward life style and not sleeping at home.

‘’She asked me if I was behind the rumour and I told her yes, that I had noticed it since she left my place.

‘’Out of anger, she picked up a bottle, broke it and threatened to deal with me and we began to fight. While we were fighting, I overpowered her and took the broken bottle from her. She rushed again to where the knife was and picked the knife.

‘’Out of anger, I collected the knife from her and mistakenly stabbed her in the stomach with the knife, shortly after she died.

“After my action, I sat for sometime thinking of what to do, whether to run away or go to the police station to report myself. I then decided to report myself at Tolu Divisional Police Station.

A sister to the deceased who gave her name as Chika, claimed that the issue that led to her sister’s death started since the victim moved back to the family house.
She explained:

“When Onyinye moved her things back to the house. I asked her what was wrong, and she said nothing, that she does not want to continue leaving with Michael.

“Even a week before this incident, when Michael came to visit his son in the family house, immediately he entered, Onyinye walked out of the house. But I was surprised when he called me on Tuesday to inform me that Onyinye is dead and that he was at the police station.

‘’I immediately rushed down to the police station to find out if it was true and that was where I heard the whole story.

“What was even more surprising is the fact that on that same day, after the incident, he called one of our neighbours to tell my other sister to bring his son which she did but after sometime, he returned the boy.

‘’Maybe he was thinking of running away with his son but God did not give him the courage to do so. All I just desire now is for the police to complete investigation into the matter and let the law deal with him accordingly.”

Fracas ensued few moments after Dogara commenced proceedings for the day.

The house was to decide on the remaining principal officers but some lawmakers disrupted the sitting and attempted to hijack the mace.

The senate on Wednesday summoned the management of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to explain the state of the nation’s refineries as well as all structures under its supervision.

In a prayer, Olusola Adeyeye (Osun-central) argued that the senate should go beyond urging the government to act, and instead hold its ministries, agencies and departments to account.

He prayed that the senate “‎summon the NNPC as soon as possible to give account of the state of the refineries and other structures under its control”.

He also urged the senate to advise the government to revamp the existing refineries and encourage the establishment of private ones. Bukola Saraki, senate president, put the prayer to a voice vote, after which the senate agre‎ed to summon the NNPC “as soon as the relevant committee was set up”.
