See both Cairo and Lagos are in thesame class of development. Facts don't lie. Go and check the ranking of cities. You will be cleared.
Electricity is a general problem in Nigeria. Many Estates in Lagos enjoys up to 20hrs of light a day.
Lagos Metro is under construction and according to the Governor it would be completed this year and begin operation next year.

Do you even know the criteria they used. Do you know that Johannesburg as developed as it is also is a one of the dangerous cities to live in. And mind you Lagos from the time of Fashola has undergone serious Overhauling and till today work is still ongoing to make life better. I don't know why we are over flogging this issue. Lagos is still one of the top 10 most beautiful and developed city in Africa.. You can check. All these countries you mentioned here, I have been to them... Nothing special. We understand Lagos problem and the present infrastructure in Lagos cannot serve the population and the vehicles. Infact that Lagos has that kind of population means it's a developed place because people moved massively there based on the opportunity that is there and I believe there is no city in Africa that has half of the population Lagos has. Lagos has the highest number of cars in Africa. So we understand Lagos problem. Lagos Govt and Our federal Govt needs to brace up to rollout more infrastructure in Lagos to help. I can still tell you that no city apart from Johannesburg has up to the number of bridges, flyovers, luxurious estates, islands and industries that Lagos has. We need more anyways.

You are generalising in terms of infrastructure. Forget those pictures. If we go one on one in terms of city comparison with facts you will see that having just capital city and one other city developed is not total development. Algeria cities who have been part of leading cities in Africa but they are not. I hope you have been checking stats.

In terms of Quality of Life.... Yes you are correct. Nigeria Quality of Life is not consistent across the country. There are places in Nigeria that are achieving this already. But I know that Algeria has it more.

See in terms of comparison we need to be specific. If you talk about Quality of Life I can agree with you but development span many areas not just one.

There are many claims out there and in no way can those cities be ahead of Nigerian cities. If you mention Algiers... I can concur for some cities but not the cities you mentioned. If I post Eko Atlantic Pix here, that of VGC, Banana Island you will marvel. People who rate cities just don't rate cities anyhow. They check many things.

To me if we carryout wide spread analysis of development between the two countries. Nigeria will be ahead because of the type of system of government we practice in Nigeria. Nigeria is a country of 36 states and almost every state is developing. There are many projects that have been commissioned and still in progress. Nigeria's development is rapid compare to many countries in Africa. Most of those African countries you see only have their capital city and one or two other places developed. Before development gets to some cities in other countries it takes time because their development is centralised and comes from the country leader only unlike Nigeria in which Governors and other high ranked people make this happen in their respective locality. It is Nigeria you see project being commissioned almost every month across the country.

Well to me Egypt is developed but Nigeria is ahead of them in many aspect. To me South Africa is number one followed by Nigeria. Egypt is number 3 in terms of development.
Let me attend to this criteria.

GDP per Capital and Quality of Life

GDP per Capital might not reflect exactly the wealth of a country. It is good for measuring how wealth is equally distributed among the citizens of a country which reveals their standard of living. GDP per Capital for Nigeria can never reveal exactly our standard of living because the country is deeply divided along wealth distribution. There is no where in the world you will see a country in which its north has 87% poverty rate and its south 13% poverty rate. Even when they say Nigeria is poor... It is because of the North. That's why many people are confused. They dont know whether to say Nigeria is poor or rich because they see that in terms of number of millionaires, billionaires, business people, number of jets, luxury building etc they see Nigerians as the lead in all these. What am I saying for Nigeria the only thing GDP per Capital will give you is that our wealth distribution is unequal and that there is a big gap btw the poor north and the rich south. Let's not be following these statistics hook line and sinker without checking it with our peculiar issues.

Better roads and Education

Nigeria have good roads in some cities. If we want to generalize then we need to compare number to number. I agree that we have cities with bad roads more than cities with good roads but we need info of for other countries in Africa to compare very well.
Let's forger education Egypt is not ahead of us in education.

Literacy

The problem of Nigeria is that we are two countries. The literate South and the illiterate north. Becos the gap btw the north and south is wide... Therefore any statistics along this line will affect us because of the North. You and I know that Nigerians even an Agebero today in Nigeria is literate.

Let's be real. Using a capital city in other country and comparing it to let's say Oshogbo, Zaria, Abeokuta etc is unfair comparison. If you want to compare at large as a whole then you will need to count the number of cities that they have as developed city and compare with our own.

The only problem we have with ranking in some aspect is our North. In education how many of those country can match us? Thank God Covenant university is the 4th best in Africa now.

From reactions of people here it can be deduced that we are the problem of this country. It's like the saying that it is easier said than done. People have always been talking about how dirty, lawless and in secure Nigeria is. Infact you will start hearing things like, Lagos is not developed. Lagos is not fine. Lagos is not sane. And they will start mentioning big cities abroad that they are better than Lagos. Now for people to support measures and policies that will make the city (Lagos) be like big cities of the world they will not.

Its easier for people here to mention Rwanda as a clean and sane city. But they have never sat down to check the measures put in place to make those things possible.

Lagos is gradually getting it right and for the city to be developed and match her counterparts abroad, she must be gotten rid off okada and keke. Those two means of transportation are not part of Lagos Transportation Plan. Simple.

Also there is no law or ban made in this country that people will not complain about. I remember when importation of rice was ban, people complained just like this that alternative and so so shud have been provided. They said we shud have had the facilities b4 the ban. Same with the border closure.

See the logic is... any alternative provided would not be patronised until what exist is gotten rid off. That's a principle.

Today, Nigeria is the leading producer of rice in Africa. Nothing good comes easy.

We have BRT, Ferries and co.... And Lagos state have been working on water transportation since last yr.... These are alternatives... Also the Danfo needs to replan their routes and that will solve the issue.

The hard part of the ban is the affected. The riders. I believe they will survive. Man will always survive. We must understand that for Nigeria to be great...for some laws to be implemented... People will have to loose their jobs. It's normal. Jobs are created based on necessity and environmental acceptability.

If the country decides to ban nylon and polythene bags today because of waste issue... Some pple will become jobless. If the country get electricity right today, Generators importers and sellers will loose their job. This has to happen. UN says anybody living below $1.9 a day is poor. This is approximately 700 naira. So let's look it.... how many people or what category of people in Nigeria live below 700 naira a day?

Sometimes we are too gullible in this country. To me it's only the Almajiris, few old men/women in cities who cannot work again and some people in our local towns and villages that live below this amount. Even Agbero earns more than this a day. So what are we saying?

Go to Liberia, Niger Rep and so on and see poverty. Even US has poverty. Infact someone holding 600 naira in Nigeria is still richer than someone holding an equivalent amount or let's say $1.9 in US.

This list seems inaccurate considering the fact that there are many wealthy people in the country which are more than 9,900. Since the calculation is based on private assets like property, cash, business and equity... I doubt if we will be number 3. Its either we are number 1 or number 2. When you look at how Nigeria is structured along wealth creation and business... we will see that there are many millionaires in the country that people dont know about. The Forbes lists of Billionaires in Africa have four black Nigerians there. SA has 4 whites and 1 black.

I think Forbes should take this private wealth calculation up and release an authentic list for us.

When you look at people working in Oil and Gas, Telecom, ICT, Banks etc and even some of our Pastors.... Nigeria cant be third. Nigeria is one of the countries with highest number of private jets in the world and how come this list is putting us as number 3. In terms of number of Entreperneurs, I doubt if there is any country in Africa that outnumbers Nigeria. Talking about mansions of wealthy Individuals in Lagos, Abuja, PH and co.... I doubt if the country's private citizen's wealth put together will now be around $225 billion. The list is inaccurate to me. We should be number 1 or number 2.

Nigeria is a country where her citizens act, talk and behave based on the problem of the country and not the reality and fact on ground. Many people saying Nigeria should be last on the list are saying that because of the country's problem. Now Nigerians have reduced themselves to the level of being tossed about by the country's problem and there is no country in the world without problem. The leaders many of us blame is just as a result of mere ignorance. Nigeria is a country whereby you are free to make it if you want to. You can pick a problem and solve it and make your money. People are coming with solutions to Nigeria's problem and they are making money and many of us are sitting there doing the leadership's blame game... when we know that corruption and co is with we the citizens and it is out of these citizens that leaders are produced. We better have sense and solve a problem and move on. If half of the population is as successful as business tycoons in the country like Dangote, Jim Ovia, Adenuga etc... will our country not be great. The owner of Airpeace volunteered led to help his country and today he is being celebrated. Dangote is solving our refinery problem now. Bishop Oyedepo's University, Covenant is now the fourth best in Africa. Tony Elemelu and co are there doing exploit. Nigeria's greatness lies in the hand of her citizens. The earlier we know this truth, the better for us.

Times Higher Education, an organisation that ranks University in the world came up with the 2020 ranking data of universities across Africa, Europe, Asia, America and Australia on 11th of September, 2019. They have been in the business of ranking universities based on research, teaching, citation and so on.

This year's ranking came with a surprise as for the first time, a private University led in Nigeria. 2019 ranking data had Covenant University and University of Ibadan tied together as number one in Nigeria and number 6 in Africa.

There is another popular university ranking organisation, Webometrics but they base their ranking parameter on Web presence.

Covenant University is the best University in Nigeria now followed by University of Ibadan. University of Lagos is the third. Data like this is debatable as people will always say Covenant can never beat University of Ibadan. Well this might be true but there are factors that inform this kind of ranking. There are some areas where University of Ibadan outshines Covenant University and vice versa. The ranking decision is not based on one factor but aggregate of factors and in all one University must emerge the winner. Looking at Covenant University, it's a kind of University that doesn't joke with standards and over the years the University has proved herself with the product she sends to the labour market.

This news is good for us Nigerians. Gone are the days when you look at the list of best Universities in Africa and you will see South African Universities dominating the first ten best. But now the game has changed and today South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria now dominates the top list.

This should further send a message to our Government, NUC and the body of Academicians in the country to try and ensure that our educational standard keep moving up. Infrastructure is lacking in some of our Universities and this need to be addressed so that many of our Universities can be of a high standard that will compete with the world best Universities.

Looking forward with high hope of seeing atleast two Nigerian Universities in the first 100 best Universities in the World.

If Nigeria is well developed I do not see what could warrant the attraction for south africa to the extent that Nigerians are risking their lives to get a living in that troubled country.

The political elites should make Nigeria work.

They should fix the power sector.

They should create the industries that can generate jobs for youth and help in tackling graduate unemployment.

The mistakes we are making is that most Nigerians in SA didn't go there because Nigeria is not developed or that they cant make it here. Most Nigerians in SA are professionals, lecturers and co. Those doing trade biz there might have that has their reason but it is still wack. There are many Germans, British, Italians, Indians etc in SA and the reason they went there is becos of Business. People in Business looks for countries to invest and make money not becos their country is not good.

The major problem affecting Nigeria is our "believe system" problem. We keep believing that the problem of Nigeria is leadership and that the country can only be developed by having good leaders. In as much as it will help but we need to know that 70% of our problem is we Nigerians and 30% the system/structure we are running. It will be very hard for a good leader to develop Nigeria to be like US and co with the kind of attitude we the Citizens have and the current government system. America has not been having fantastic leaders for some time now... but they are doing well becos of the citizen's attitude and their system.

You are funny.... most developed only in infrastructure. Based on economy we are the largest. The under 30 list released by Forbes Nigerians has the highest number. The list of most reputable people in Africa released by Forbes, we have the highest number. Nigerians have 4 billionaires who are blacks. In terms of industry..... let's examine the 5 main industries of an economy... considering Entertainment Industry, we are the largest and the richest. For Banking Industry we are the richest and largest. In terms of Mining/Production you have mining industries more than us and we too have Oil and Gas industries... the refinery which we will be using Dangote Refinery will be ready next year and will seal up that industry perfectly. We have many manufacturing industries and even if you have more than us we still compete in this area in Africa. Your unemployment rate higher than our own. Truly you are ahead of us in terms of Education but only in terms of education infrastructure. In terms of education performance we lead in Africa. So many things to compare. Even the infrastructure where you glaringly lead us we still follow you bomber to bomber. Cape Town is the most beautiful and most developed city in Africa and Abuja is the second in Africa and it was built by us unlike Cape Town that was built by the Whites.

We were colonised by the Britons and that's why we speak English. It doesn't affect our nativity. We didn't start speaking and bearing their names because we migrated to their land. They came to us and that is a different case and still we still speak our language and practice our culture. So this is a different case.

Guy get this fact right... they can only claim Ijaw by origin based on history which wikipedia has done justice to. The reality takes it on after you have understood their history that they have lost e everything and they are now Yoruba. The reason the igbo tribes in Delta and Rivers are called Igbos is because they speak Igbo and practice the igbo culture. So what are you saying? This thing is simple... if they still speak Ijaw language and also practice the Ijaw culture then I can say you are totally correct. But the reality is that they cant do any of this.

What you said here is strong ooo. How can someone be bearing a name of a tribe (Surname and First name) and also speak the language and yet he is not from the tribe? That is somehow.

See get this right. Migration is a normal thing in the past. People migrate for different reasons and that is why we have different tribes scatters all over the place. Now when a tribe migrates and settle in another tribe's territory and looses her language, name and culture how will they claim the their original tribe. Then get this about history if not for documentation how will many of knows the origin of tribes. So the present matters alot so is history. History is good for a tribe who migrates and still speak their language and practice their culture. I dont think any tribe migrate like the hausa in west Africa. Hausa are in many country. They speak their language and practice their culture. I dont know if you understand these things.

KingOdart is not that you are not passing a point about Sowore's Origin but you are not passing it correctly. There are lots of migrations here and there in the past and when that happens, two things are bound to happen. Is either the tribe that migrated preserves their language and culture or loose it to where they migrated to.

Now in the case of Apoi and Arogbo they lost their culture and language to that of the Yorubas and with this they are Yorubas. If we decided to go back to history then we can say they are Ijaws. Had it been they did not loose their culture and language then we can say they are Ijaws in Yoruba land. Someone is bearing Omoyele Sowore, speaks Yoruba and so on how will he claim Ijaw perfectly. He can only do that by history. Let me tell you this....your tribe is as strong as your culture and language. Let we Yorubas stop speaking our language and practicing our culture and see if the tribe will survive. So get this. Ibos have been moving from places to places in Nigeria but they still practice their culture and speak their language and give Igbo names to their children.

For your information, the Ga and Dangbe tribe in Ghana migrated from Ile Ife in Nigeria. They dont speak Yoruba. They speak their own language... only God knows how they got that. Now can we claim they are Nigerians? No. By origin based on history they are like Yorubas but there is nothing to show for it. Same with The Apoi and Arogbo people. I accept your claim of Sowore based on his history but in reality based on what is present, he is a Yoruba man.

The Kwara and Kogi territory you brought out.... that demarcation is by the Nigeria Govt. The Yoruba didn't migrate there as a group of Yorubas. So the part where they speak Yoruba is part of Yoruba territory.

Fulanis in Kwara cant even speak Fulfide, they speak Yoruba. They are only trying to retain their name and the religion is what is doing this.

So in short to settle everything, Sowore only has a line connected to Ijaw which is origin by history. He has three lines connected to Yoruba. Number One, he bears Yoruba names. Two, he speaks Yoruba. Three, his tribe is in Yoruba land. Weighing the these, his connection to Yoruba is higher than Ijaw.

Yes.... change in system will complement the change in attitude. If you change the system and the mindset remains what will happen is that Nigeria will expend much money on enforcing rules. There will be a lot of compromises. Many things will happen. That's the issue.

Nigerians misbehave abroad. Recently one Nigerian out of impatience destroyed many cars parked at the Nig. Embassy in UK.

These bad attitudes follow those who are yet to get rid of them anywhere they go.

There are some Nigerians in Ghana, SA, UK and so on constituting nuisance there. So change of attitude will go a long way in helping us.
