Kcwarren: Victor Anichebe could also have played for
England but the striker, who has recently
become a first-team regular at European
hopefuls Everton, always maintained he was
Nigerian and played for their under-23 side
and has also made 11 caps for the country of
his birth since his debut in 2008.
Yet he is not the only Everton reared talent
who can play for Nigeria as their current
shining star Ross Barkley is also part Nigerian.
It is obviously a slightly surprising fact to
discover, in the same way that Chris Birchall
playing for Trinidad and Tobago was, but he
confirmed it himself on Everton’s official
website:
Interviewer: ‘’Which national teams are you
eligible for?’’
‘Barkley: ’England and Nigeria’’
Barkley has recently been released from a
loan-spell at Leeds United but his previous
form at Sheffield Wednesday was highly
impressive and he is still considered one of the
top talents in the English game.
He has helped England win the 2010 under-17
Euros and has made four appearances for the
under-21 side.
He has not spoken of a desire to play for
Nigeria but off the back of recent success the
side will be looking out for young talent to
come through and sustain that development for
years to come.
It could be that Ross Barkley becomes a Super
Eagle rather than an English Lion.
Should Ross Barkley play for Nigeria or wait to
see if he makes the grade for England?
This is a player Chelsea has a keen eye on.....

Health and Safety......... very important... I support the shut down, I could remember in the 80s at Idumota when a bus that had a break failure ploughed into a large crowd mostly those who were trading on the bridge. But the roughs turn on the buses and started burning them.

I'm not here to insult or argue,
FYI Tottenham chattered a private plane for Adebayor so he wouldn't miss the match against Newcastle
He played and they won so what are u talking
So....They only Chartered a plane when they realised that Defo would be out for 6 months, but Adebayor was meant to go back with his team-mates to Lome, Adebayor said no and he chartered a private jet to carry him and his team-mates back to Lome, he is not getting on the Airforce plane provided by the Togolese FA and thats why he was late....

Togo played on the 3rd his next game for Spurs was on the 10th, he has ample time to rest.... the same for Yaya Toure, Gervinho, Tiote etc..... No sane manager would attempt to do such thing, by playing a player who had a 10 hours flight, who just played at high altitude in the southern hemisphere, and played till late in the night 2 days ago.... why do you think Arsene Wenger ripped into the England Manager for using Jack Wilshire for the whole game against brazil last wednesday?

No they wont thats why the moved it 2013, 15, 17... it would clash with the conferation cups but the only problem is the monsoon raining season which could be a problem.... or for north Africa it could be too hot to play footie

SportsRe: Efe Ambrose: European Clubs Disregard For AFCON by omar22(m): 2:46pm On Feb 13, 2013
I blame the club, Someone who played late in the Sunday night, in a high altitude region, then after all that a 10 hours flight from Jo'Burg to Glasgow and the threw him at the deep end. Am happy that Celtic lost because they were bragging after beating Barcelona.....

Most of the pundits did say it was gamble Neil Lennon playing Ambrose, I didnt think they disregard the tournament....

Afam4eva: That's a nice quote and that's what i've been trying to make these Nigerians who are trying to break into the foreign scene to realize. It's better to a king in your country than to be a slave elsewhere.
Wow accepting the status quo!!!! whats wrong in trying to improve yourself, whats wrong in aiming high... whats the difference between a Nollywood star sleeping with a producer to get a top role in a Nollywood movie that would pay her £2k or a Nollywood star who was given a 1 minute cameo role in a Hollywood movie?

People need to go a read the story of Djimoh Hounsou!!!! A yoruba actress died 2 or 3 years due to lack of rest, it was learnt that she was doing movies after movies because each movie paid N20k and her manager had her cut.

If you dont aim high well huh?

TV/MoviesRe: Genevieve Nnaji's Scenes Cut Out Of Half Of A Yellow Sun by omar22(m): 12:26pm On Feb 01, 2013
The way I see it, when you look at Genny's acting, she tries so hard to remember her lines thats why she speaks slowly... I saw Mirror boy, she played the role of a Gambian mother, now why cant she speak with a Gambian accent? she acted the same way she acted in IJE... Denzil missed out on an Oscar twice but when won it for training day, they (academy) said they were shocked that Denzel could go from one extreme to another extreme playing the role of a bad / gangster role. Nollywood is about acting a role, in Hollywood they want you go into the world of that person of the role you are playing and act that role. Look at Mo'nique her role as a drug addict she took that role on like a real drug addict. Denzil said his role as a drunk pilot in his latest movie "Flight" he is not meant to act as a drunkard but to act like an alcoholic that's trying to recover... in a recent interview he said they are 2 different things. He said he had to do alot of research, attend clincic etc all these things look like a waste of time to Nollywood faithfuls, Will Smith said he spent months with Muhammed Ali just to learn how to speak just like Ali... Forest whitaker lived in Uganda just to learn the culture and their accents and how Agressive Idi Amin is, before they start shooting the movie.
TV/MoviesRe: Genevieve Nnaji's Scenes Cut Out Of Half Of A Yellow Sun by omar22(m): 11:58am On Feb 01, 2013
VillageBoi: Nollywood’s pride, Genevieve Nnaji may have had the privilege of working with a crop of Hollywood’s A-list actors on the set of Chimamanda Adiche’s Half of A Yellow Sun yet-to-be-released film directed by Niyi Bandele but not the pleasure of seeing her role when it comes to cinemas. Genevieve’s scenes weren’t expressly important to the story, a reliable source that has seen the movie told E24-7MAGAZINE. “I figured that because of Ms Nnaji’s way of acting, her character dragged the storyline, so it was cut out during editing. Obviously, if she was good enough like Onyeka Onwenu, she would have been given a major role in the film.

“Her minor role was compensation to Nollywood. So, the film producers might be apologetic for cutting out her parts, as she should not try to go to the cinemas to see the film with her family members, else she will give herself heartache.”

It was a very intense exercise for the post-production team; in fact, they ended up cutting out some characters from the book to beat time in order to stay focus and professional. Test audiences, we gathered did not like those scenes.

According to the source, the director realized some footage may not be needed and unfortunately many of those scenes involved the Tango with Me star actress, such that if she appears on screen at all, it will be in a significantly reduced capacity from what her role was in the script.

Yes, you may get to see her in a party scene. This development, no doubt will be shocking to her fans and observers of the industry because of her status and influence but it is a usual occurrence in other climes to cut actors out of finished films.

So NL people, what do you all think?

Nuzo':
Wonderful debate going on here.

Like somebody rightly said, there's never been a book that has fully been adapted into a movie accrdingly aside from Rowlings's Harry Potter.

Sometimes it fails utterly when books are fully adapted into a movie, most times its being changed for a commercial success. Why then should we expect the producers of Half of a yellow sun to gamble?

Along the line, I missed the point of the debate. I thought the debate was more about Thandle's skin colour and not her ethnicity.
Methinks It would have made more sense to have a darker lady play Olanna irrespective of her ethnicity or nationality. Kerry Washinghton or Megan Good would have been good for the role.

Did I hear someone mention Oge Okoye and Rita Domnic? Aside from the horrible acting skills and bad diction, their skin colour still doesn't suit Olanna's character.

By the way, Regina Askia, Lilian Bach, Nadia Buari, Carol Ekanem and Fiberisina may be very good people in real life but very horrible actresses in the screem. Very horrible!
Megan Good has never stepped out of her comfort zone, asking her to act the role of a Nigerian is a car crash waiting to happen

Mikel was 2nd best player in a tournament, Kanu was best player at the Olympics, Kanu won two CAF player of the year, Number 6 in the world number 11 in Europe When Mikel achieves these get back to me

Best player of the tournament or NIgeria's best player.... because he only had one good game which was Brazil (1/6)

Kanu 20 years as a striker only 121 goals (average 6 goals per year) Thierry Henry scored that in 4 years....
