PoliticsRe: Kogi State Speaker Resigns! by omicron(op): 8:08pm On Nov 21, 2012
It's always more honorable to resign, no matter what. It is better for one to resign and have one's honor and peace than to keep failing and dragging the people along the path of failure. How I wish all incompetent politicians in Nigeria will begin to resign whenever they see they are not making headway in government!
PoliticsKogi State Speaker Resigns! by omicron(op): 7:39pm On Nov 21, 2012
The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly has resigned.
The crisis in the Kogi State House of Assembly was resolved on Wednesday as the embattled Speaker, Abdullahi Bello , resigned fromhis job.
The resignation brought some calm after a long period of tension in the house.
A new speaker, Lawal Momoh-Jimoh, was subsequently elected as the new speaker in a unanimous vote by all the 22 members in attendance at the plenary sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Emmanuel Omebije.
Mr. Omebije read the letter of Mr. Bello’s resignation as the Speaker of the House with effect from November 21, for “personal reasons.”
Mr. Bello thanked members of the House for the support accorded him during his tenure as the Speaker from June 2011 till his resignation
A vote of confidence was passed on all the former principal officers of the House as they retained their seats.
However, Saidu Salihu relinquished his position as Chief Whip to Suleiman Babadoko.
Mr. Omebije then read out the names and signatures of the 22 members in the plenary session who adopted Mr. Lawal as the new Speaker of the House.
A motion to that effect was moved by the Majority Leader, Yakubu Yunusa, and seconded by the new Chief Whip, Mr. Babadoko.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Lawal solicited for the support and cooperation of the members and congratulated them for coming out of the crisis stronger.
“The event that led to my election today has so much threatened ourunity. Sacrifices have been made and compromises reached to bring us to where we are today.
“They are worthwhile sacrifices and compromises. The unity of this House is key to the progress and development of the state and must be jealously protected.
“We must not allow the experience of the past couple of weeks to stagnate us and therefore rob us of a brighter future,’’ he said.
The Kogi Assembly crisis had culminated in a controversial impeachment of Mr. Bello and the principal officers of the House by 12 of its 25 members in a secret meeting on October 16. The minority lawmakers, who carried out the impeachment, allegedly did so on the orders of the state governor, Idris Wada.
The impeachment was condemned by civil society groups, the National Assembly, and lawyers; and described as an illegality.http://premiumtimesng.com/news/108081-kogi-assembly-crisis-resolved-as-speaker-resigns.html

nissparts: It's an amazing coincidence that I see this thread 2 days after I had a discussion with a barman about the same topic.
He assured me that beer contained way more sugar than soft-drinks which I did not believe until I carried out research on the internet just yesterday.
Well, results are, beer does indeed contain more sugar than soft-drinks.
It's misleading to draw a direct relationship between sugar content of beverages and their propensities to cause harm. Sugar is not the problem....if sugar was to be the cause of diabetes or anything then such diseases as diabetes would have been more of a disease of the young than the old. Beer causes harm through several alcohol-mediated pathways such as producing free radicals that ultimately results in inflammation(swelling) and necrosis(death) of liver cells, and causes ateries to thicken which increases the risk of hypertension and strokes. So it doesn't follow that the higher the sugar content, the more harmful it becomes.
FoodRe: BEER OR SOFTDRINKS: Which Is More Harmful To One's Health? by omicron(m): 9:05am On Nov 21, 2012
Generally beer is more harmful to health....but only in excess as alcohol taken in moderation (typically a glass of red wine [average red wine= 12%alcohol] per day is known to be beneficial to cardiovascular(heart and blood vessels) health). Soft drinks do not cause diabetes....they are only to be avoided by diabetics and those at risk of diabetes, otherwise they cause no known harm!
TV/MoviesRe: Unnecessary Screaming And Shouting In Nollywood Movies by omicron(m): 8:49am On Nov 21, 2012
Freiburger: African are known for for screaming and shouting, so it shouldn't be something new.
How could you just say that like that? Every race and people scream and shout when need be. Why they are prevalent in Nollywood is cos of like of ideas to make the film intriguing not to talk of suspenseful. So they rather resort to screaming in a rediculous attempt to create "action".
TV/MoviesRe: Unnecessary Screaming And Shouting In Nollywood Movies by omicron(m): 8:44am On Nov 21, 2012
Haven't you noticed that the shoutings and screamings are the only "action" part of nigerian films....the part that usually gets kids stuck to the screen. Apart from most of the comedy and some 'village' films made by nollywood, I got no business with them. Those screaming scenes highly irritates me.

surveyProf: But droping Torres and replacing him with Hazard will not really make any difference in tonight's match, reasons are dat Hazard is gifted playing/running frm d planks, and if he is the top nine,... Well I dont know wat is going to happen, anyway Chelsea will still secure a point today.
true that hazard has been great at the flanks, but i still see him being efficient up front, moreso than either torres or sturridge whose selfish play is his main bain.

I heard torres was dropped to be replaced by hazard up front. Good tactic if true!

dominique: Seemed like the journalists were threading carefully with their questions, almost as if they've been prewarned on their level of questioning. Didn't watch much of it, I'm not willing to listen to another hour of empty promises.
you may be right. They were not probing with their questions and they were always satisfied with superficial and general answers.

wesley80: Rid yourself of the sarcasm first.
Describing his chat as 'verbose' and 'vague' is by no means sarcastic. To me nothing discreet - not to any meaninful question asked.
PoliticsRe: What Did You Learn From The Presidential Media Chat? by omicron(op): 9:08pm On Nov 18, 2012
Imagine the 'Headline' the Chat has made on NTA ..."President Jonathan Says He Needs More Time to Decide If He Will Contest 2015 Elections" Even the journalist saw nothing to report. No news
PoliticsRe: What Did You Learn From The Presidential Media Chat? by omicron(op): 8:59pm On Nov 18, 2012
wesley80: Not surprised that was all you learnt, comprehension has always been a national problem. If you need someone to make sense of the interview for you, why not ask politely instead of resorting to uncomplimentary adjectives like "verbose" and "vague" to describe an interview session others found pretty refreshing?
Professor, oya pls tell me what you learnt?
PoliticsWhat Did You Learn From The Presidential Media Chat? by omicron(op):
Finally the almighty presidential media chat has come and gone. So what have you learnt from the chat?

For me the panel of journalist no try at all, with respect to the lady. One was even asking the president how he feels that PDP didn't win elections in Edo and Ondo. Crap! How will that affect the price of garri? Not even one of them asked a question starting with 'how'! Pls help me ask jona why roads awarded in Nigeria more than 7 yrs ago is yet to be completed?? Jonathan was always right when he told them thay should be the one telling him some things, like what happened to the licenses given to some people for refining petroleum. They can do better.

Secondly, the whole stuff was like a beer parlour discussion. No discreet points made. No evaluation of targets previously set. No statistical facts and projections. Just the same routine, verbose and vauge responses to every question asked.

Thirdly, one thing is clear - Fuel Subsidy will not be removed totally, not soon. But expect no much positive changes until subsidy completely goes.

Fourth, it's mostly same old story. About security, cost of governance, education, 2nd tenure, Electricity, corruption, etc. Practically same old stories.

Or did you learn anything different? Let's hear it...
TravelRe: Which Is Your Best Nigerian Cities Visited And Why? by omicron(m): 9:19pm On Nov 17, 2012
Enugu for sure...good roads with perfect network, cool, not crowded, neat, not too expensive, decent night life, above average electricity, has arguably the highest concentration of fine babes.

Uyo, Abuja (too expensive), and Calabar also deserve mentioning.
CelebritiesRe: Ndokwa Community Visits Enebeli Elebuwa In India by omicron(m): 2:40pm On Nov 16, 2012
Please I would like to know, does anyone of you know any single Nigerian that received treatment in India and returned alive and is still living till date?

I am concerned that over 8 people I know who traveled to India for breast cancer, liver cancer, stroke, heart surgery, tumor and other disease either died in India of few months after they returned to Nigeria. I don't know anyone that received treatment in India and lived for 12 whole months? Is this a curse or is it that those Indian hospitals are not as advanced as we are made to believe?

I wish Enebeli Elebuwa a quick recovery.
Liver cancer? Bosom cancer, heart surgery? These things will kill anybody anywhere in the world. Leave India alone, they are one of the best. I know many who have returned alive and well, and still kicking strong. But i won't expect that from someone who has liver cancer though
