I believe in miracles but the Nigerian way I bow, why wont people admit they got medical help? Is it not God that gave the knowledge for IVF?
My friend went for a child dedication in redeemed church, she actually took the lady in question to get IVF and got the recommendation from me, yet when they got to church the woman gave all the glory to "Daddy" no mention of IVF or the poor Doctor who she kept crying and calling till she conceived.

AGAIN, some parts of Plateau State have come under severe flooding with 28 persons feared dead and scores of others declared missing. The disaster occurred in the southern zone of state last weekend, but details of the incident came yesterday when journalists visited the affected areas.

The Guardian learnt that bodies of the victims were found in villages far from the scenes of the flooding.

According to residents, close to 100 communities and a thousand houses were affected by the flood. The bridge linking the zone with Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital and Taraba State was washed off by the flood

A resident of Langtang, who identified himself as Nandom, said the rain on Sunday morning in the communities caused heavy flooding that also swept away farmlands and displaced several hundreds of people.

The Transition Committee Chairman of Shendam Local Council, Kemi Nshe, told journalists that 200 hectares of farmland were washed away by the flood in his council alone. He described the incident as sad and called on the people to be calm as succour was coming for them.

Also, Senator Victor Lar, who led journalists to the affected communities yesterday, described the incident as unfortunate and assured the people of efforts to ameliorate their plight.

Lar said since he was born, he had not seen such torrential rain and its devastating effects on both humans and farmlands like the one that occurred in Plateau southern zone.

He noted that the victims of the flooding were facing serious problems, adding that there was imminent threat of epidemic in the area and the displacement of over 1,500 people.

The Special Assistant to the Minister of Water Resources, Prof. Dimis Mai Lafia, who was on the entourage, described the havoc done by the flood as worrisome.

He said the Minister of Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Ochepe had been contacted on the incident so that she can liaise with the Federal Ministry of Works to intervene in rebuilding of the bridge

The councils cut off by the collapsed bridge are Langtang South, Langtang North, Shendam Mikang, Wase and Quanpan.

President Goodluck Jonathan should make known the position of his government on the secession threatsby Niger Delta groups and attempt by Bayelsa State government to unveil new flag, Kaduna-based lawyer Yahaya Mahmood (SAN) has said.

The factional leader of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), Dr Goodluck Diigbo and Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo have threatenedsecession and war in the country.

He said, “The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which remains our Supreme Law defines Nigeria as one indivisible and indissoluble Sovereign Nation. Each public officer and political office holder also took oath of allegiance tothe Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“It is time for President Jonathan to come out categorically to tell the nation if he wants us to remain as one united country.

“The President must categorically caution Dr Goodluck Diigbo who wassaid to have declared Ogoni self-government and Asari Dokubo for his threat of war. The President must also caution Bayelsa State Governor and the State Assembly. People are beginning to think that those threatening our unity are the real people behind the ‘real boko Haram’ - which attack mosques and churches, kill Christian and Moslems. Also reacting, constitutional lawyer Fred Agbaje (SAN) described attempts by the Bayelsa State government to change the flag and anthem as the beginning of secession, describing it as “an affront on the Constitution.”

Agbaje, who spoke from London yesterday, said the move could mark the beginning of secession.

“When an item is not on the concurrent list can a state legislate on it ? The issue of a State flag and anthem are not issues on the concurrent list; the state government cannot make a law on flags,” Agbaje said.

The President of Flag Foundation of Nigeria, Barrister Agiri Chris, said by implication, what the state was asking for is autonomy which has to do with true federalism where federating states can run their affairs, citing State Police as an example.

He noted that Lagos State government has also adopted a seal of government but added that that does not take the place of the national flag.

However, a professor of Law Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN) said that the state was only expressing what it was entitled to in a true federal system.

THE Federal Government, yesterday, said it was considering sending a bill to the National Assembly, which would promote and make breast feeding compulsory for all nursing mothers in the country.

Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, at the grand finale of the World Breast Feeding week in Ugbodo, Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state, said that the bill, when passed into law will stipulate appropriate sanctions for defaulting mothers.

He said the bill, which was still under consideration would seek to increase the number of months for maternity leave for lactating mothers as well as encourage husbands to fulfil their obligations to their wives during the period of lactation in the family.

“I agree with you that legislation can help in the area of stipulating that an employer, whether government or private give more time for maternity leave and we are thinking along that line. Another thing is for us to have a period, when the husbands, who have wives who are lactating can have time to assist their wives because it is important.”

The men must support but often times, what happens is that as the woman is giving birth, the man decides to go elsewhere to enjoy himself.
“He doesn’t give that psychological support to the woman. So we need to support our women to do the right thing. As you know, when you have a law and people are inside their house it becomes difficult to monitor. So what we are doing is even more important than the law,” he said.

Earlier, wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Josephine Elechi, said that breast milk was the best food for the baby as it contained all the essential nutrients required for growth and development of the child.

She noted that exclusive breast feeding for the first six months of child birth had been recognised as the single most effective intervention for child survival and reduction of under-5 mortality and morbidity.
