Dis Guy: Thinking allowed

WHY WILL HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE REQUIRE : SPECIALIST HOSPITAL? ARE THERE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE HOSPITALS OR SOMETHING

shouldn't a qualified medical doctor be able to 'treat' a patient for high bp?

all this look for a cardiologist, go to specialist etc etc

the dude already too her to private and general hospital, na wa o

@PLAY P, I DONT THINK ITS ADVISABLE TO RECOMMEND A DRUG, THAT WORKING FOR YOU TO SOMEONE ELSE, YOU DONT KNOW HER WEIGHT, HER HEALTH HISTORY ETC ETC
the dude might be looking all over for the medication now
Hypertension is a very serious disease and as such requires a specialist to manage. Yes, a general practioner can treat hypertension, but if there is someone who can treat hypertension better, that person is a cardiologist.
LiteratureRe: English Speaking Versus Writing, Which Is More Difficult? by omicron(m): 3:14pm On Sep 24, 2012
Well, written English has more to do with literacy than spoken English. If one is NOT able to READ, then one will NOT be able to write. You dont need to be able to write or read English before you can speak correct English. My 3 yr old niece, for example, can speak impecable English, but she can barely write same.Writing is more difficult because it is a better reflection of education and formal learning. A lot of people who speak English as first language, including native English people, do not necessarily write good English. In the same way, an Igbo or a Yoruba person may not be able to write Igbo or Yoruba simply because he did not study those languages in High School. Writing is a more difficult art, and even makes speaking easier and more correct( writing maketh an exact mind).

So sad. BH strikes when they want. So sad its the innocent people that will pay for the Government's inconpetence with their lives. JTF will be busy shooting DEAD anybody they can sight, as if killing suspects will end it, instead of gathering enough intelligence to prevent further attacks. And someone will pop up now to tell us to they are on top of the situation. Life really does not mean anything in Nigeria. Very sad.

EducationRe: NUC Bans Re-sit Exams In Universities by omicron(m):
Osheshe: Oh really? You actually think the absence of a CGPA system qualifies medical students for resit examinations?

My dear, if you're applauding and embracing the ban, there should be no buts. If there are medical students who can pass their written/oral/clinical exams at one sitting, then resit should be scrapped.

No profession is higher than another. Talking about doctors being trained to save lives and architects to understand buildings...lemme tell you some.

The torture never ends. I passed through medical school too, before swapping fields. So I'm plenty informed and educated in both fields.

Burning the midnight oil? Going days without sleeep? Skipping meals? The tension is present in all departments. Architects are trained to have a thorough understanding of buildings, yes. In the event of a building caving in, who's to blame? The architect!

The essence of architecture is not limited to creating buildings with aesthetic appeal, or symmetrical functionality. Safety is a paramount design consideration too.

Who gets to design hospitals, clinics and medical complexes? Lemme not derail here...my point is being a medical or architectural or engineering student is quite irrelevant. An examination remains an examination! If there are people who pass without resits, then the concept should be scrapped completely. No 'buts'.
You point may make sense to sb with shallow knowledge of what med school is all about, but if u really understand med college then u shd know u r just blabbing! It is clear u have no understanding of what goes on in med school even though u claim so. For your mind med students should carry over their MBBS professional exam. And i ask how? Carry it over to the next semester or what, cos MBBS exams have nothing to do with semester. A med student writes their first MB 18 months after the basic sciences, and then does the next MB 12 months after passing the previous one. So if he is to carry the previous one over to the next one, it means he'd be preparin for two separate MBs side by side, one to be completed in 18months and the other in 12 months, and he is supposed to pass the one of 18 mnths before that of 12 months. Dont u see it doesnt even make sense, its not even possible. Not to mention the fact that these MBs are not the regular 2, 3, or 6-credit courses that people write in school. In fact a single course in an MB is the same thing that someone studies elsewhere throughout the last three years of a five year course. Imagine if its to be given a credit load....each of them will not be anything less than 20 units! So my dear its not possible, u should know that. Unless u have something personal with the medical college.
EducationRe: NUC Bans Re-sit Exams In Universities by omicron(m): 6:40pm On Sep 21, 2012
as usual a lot of people here are exhibiting their ignorance. This is definitely not a welcome development. I'm a finalist in luth and i know what i'm saying. Failing resit in MBBS means you have to repeat the whole session including the courses you passed. Without resits out of the equation i can boldly tell you that many 50% of medical students will spend at least two extra years in school. The volume of work is so much that some exams require you to read a whole text book. This is not a welcome development. It's bullshi*t
guy relax...NUC is not referring to MBBS exams
EducationRe: NUC Bans Re-sit Exams In Universities by omicron(m): 5:43pm On Sep 21, 2012
brownlord: I may be wrong, but no one truly understand where u heading
my point is that the ban is not for med students who are known to write MBBS resit exams because med schools do not run the usual semester system and do not follow the normal course credit system applicable to other depts.
EducationRe: NUC Bans Re-sit Exams In Universities by omicron(m): 5:27pm On Sep 21, 2012
In medical schools resit exams are done since adam and eve. So i guess the NUC is not referring to medical colleges cos they do not run the normal semester exams...and courses are prerequesite courses which must be passed before proceedin to the next class. NO CARRY OVERS! But you get to REPEAT the course totally if you fail the resit..and most courses last up to 18months before the exams. That's why someone may remain in med school for up to sooo long. So definitely this will not apply to med students....otherwise its a great idea.

Politics2015: CPC May Dump Buhari For Sanusi Lamido As Presidential Candidate by omicron(op): 9:05am On Sep 18, 2012
INDICATIONS have emerged that the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) may have settled for Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Central Bank ofNigeria (CBN) governor, as his presidential candidate in the 2015 elections, just as the party presidential candidate in the 2011 elections, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has started having a rethink about the 2015 presidential race.
Sources in the political circles told Nigerian Tribune that Buhari, who had given his word ahead of the 2011 elections that the election would be his last presidential contesthas decided to keep his word, notwithstanding the pressure from some members of his party.
It was gathered that some members of Buhari’s caucus highlighted issues of age and reach of the CPC, which is limited to parts of the North as majorimpediment to his participation in the 2015 race.
While the former head of state agreed with that submission, initially, pressure from within his party and the opposition party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) apparently informed a turnaround some months back.
Sources said that the leader of the ACN, Senator Bola Tinubu, had met with Buhari and reiterated the need for them to work together so as to capture power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Sources said that Buhari became so convinced about the Tinubu proposal that he practically took over the job of the CPC/ACN alliance talks committee.
Some members of the CPC, who weresaid to be wary of entering into a “blind” agreement with the Tinubu-led ACN, had cautioned against wholesale acceptance of the merger option and had insisted on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) before the merger agreement between the two parties could be reached.
Sources further confirmed that the confused state of things within the CPC first informed the delay in signing the MOU, with a section of the party believing that Buhari should not join the 2015 contest, while others who believed that the party cannot survive without Buhari’sfather-figure felt that he should still contest election in 2015.
While the confusion lingered, sourcessaid that unfolding developments appeared to have convinced the Buhari camp that the merger plan with the ACN would worsen the party’s woes.
For instance, a source said that leaders of the CPC had reinvented thefear of Tinubu, which informed the collapse of the merger talks between the two parties ahead of the 2011 elections.
The fear, according to sources, had todo with the belief that Tinubu’s ACN was double-dealing and that while they were holding meetings with Buhari’s CPC, some of the key men were also reaching out to the camp of President Goodluck Jonathan.
It was confirmed that Buhari appeared to have accepted the advicethat he anoint a successor to the CPC presidential ticket in 2015 and that the party had settled for the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
Though Buhari and Tinubu made a show of the CBN governor’s chieftaincy event in June, the CPC is said to have decided to adopt Sanusi as its own candidate in view of the distrust between the two parties.
It was also gathered that Sanusi has decided to give the contest a trial, while leaving his acclaimed interest in the Kano emirate stool in the cooler.http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/lead-stories/47740-2015-cpc-guns-for-sanusi-as-presidential-candidate-may-persuade-buhari-to-drop-ambition

RomanceShare Your MISSED OPPORTUNITIES- That Romance That Was Never To Be! by omicron(op): 11:14am On Sep 11, 2012
Okay. Maybe as a girl you met this amazing guy that sums up all u ever needed in a guy. Maybe it was in shop....or at the gym or perhaps he just gave u a ride. And he was just sweet...i mean the whole encounter was great, although rather brief. Great conversation like you guys have known each other for a thounsand years. Maybe he even waited for you to take you back home....and you were beginning to feel the attraction, the chemistry was palpable. But alas! That would be all....no exchanging of numbers, no emails...no BB Pins!!! You were surprised! And disappointed. He just said goodbye. And, as the lady you are...."yea, bye. Nice being with you" was all you could say! That's it! MISSED OPPORTUNITIES....thats what I call them!

Or as a guy the reverse has happened to u....that girl you never took her contact despite the attraction and chemistry...maybe because you reasoned 'whats the point, my girlfriend is ok too', only to wish you could at least even see her again! You must have been in such a situation before. So, Nairalanders, Share your missed opportunities.

k2039: I think as nairalanders we need to forward a bill to the house of assembly, requiring the screening of all awardee by EFCC,ICPC and other anti corruption bodies before they are given their awards
The fact is, these awards are not exclusive to politicians or some powerful figures in the Nigerian society. They are given to Nigerians and not Nigerians politicians. I dont need to screen that forgotten old soldier who lost his limbs in service to the nation....I dont need EFCC to confirm that village nurse in one of the most inaccessible community before recognising her, neither do i need to call for ICPC to screen the poor taxi man that returned money belonging to a foreign passenger before honoring him. The manner in which the award is given clearly shows we still have a long way to go regarding nation building. I wonder if there is any way the common citizens make inputs regardin these awards.
PoliticsCriticisms Trail National Awards As David-west, Utomi, Others Slam FG by omicron(op): 8:21am On Sep 11, 2012
CRITICISMS, yesterday, greeted the list of 149 eminent Nigerians, who would be conferred with National Honours by President Goodluck Jonathan on September 17. While some dismissed the list as political, some said a host of the awardees do not deserve the awards.

Utomi said: “I already have my position on it and I don’t intend to change that. For me, a real honour is when you go to a village, find a headmaster who for 30 to 40 years worked so diligently, and you also look for 200 to 300 personalities, who had become Professors or Doctors who might not have been anything except for the diligence of that headmaster. That is a person you award a CFR not some egomaniac who has stolen from the country and never adds value to it.”Adebanjo spoke in like manner. He said: “It is not just now that this started, National honours have been discredited since three to five years ago. What they are supposed to give to credible Nigerians that have served this country diligently are now being given to party leaders.
For instance, when Chief Tony Anenih was given a National Award, that was the year Olusegun Obasanjosaid he gave Anenih as Minister of works N10 billion for the construction of Lagos- Ore, Benin Expressway and since then, they have been re-awarding that road contract.

e.”
Adenuga’s GCON is political — David-West
To David-West, the way the honours are awarded to non-deserving persons could not inspire the younger generation.
His words: “Any nation that gives over 100 people national award at the same time cannot be a serious nation. The whole thing looks like mass production. My observations are simple. The GCON that was given to Mike Adenuga is political. How canNigeria relegate eminent jurist like Justice Kayode Eso? He was given CFRalongside Justice Mary Odili”.
Does it in anyway make sense? I believe that at the time Eso was active in his days, Odili should be in Law school. But today, she is being given the same CFR with Eso, who performed excellently in the history of the judiciary. Odili only came to Abuja two years ago. It is on record that Eso was the only person, who interpreted the two-third majority controversy of the 1979 presidential election properly.
Awards have lost credibility – CPC, ACN
To the opposition Congress for Progressive Change, CPC and Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, the annual ritual of national awards had lost credibility because some undeserving persons are usually honoured.
