I looked at these 2 volts battery that hat have 2 positive and 2 negative terminals and was thinking that for effective charging,a charging source ( inverter or solar can be connected on one set of positive and negative while another charging source is connected on the other positive- negative source.Is it possible or why do they have double positive and negative terminal per battery. Even some 2v 1000ah have 4 sets of positive and negative terminals per battery.

Thank you. Most companies discourage direct sales to end users in order to create market for distributors. If everybody goes to the company ton buy then how will the distributors ,who are the ones promoting the company's brand make money?.So they hike the price while they give discount to distributors. It is the same logic with airlines. You can actually get flight rates cheaper from the travel agents that the airline itself!

Good evening house.

I noticed my Tubular Mercury 220ah batteries backup time have reduced so i invited a battery charger to help me check the batteries, then he said the battery water is flat (not reduced at all at all) and i have to buy chemical to add to the water to increase its strength, then use their own battery charger machine to charge it.

NOTE: the batteries are 8 months old and the water level haven't reduced at all. The back up time reduced to half of its former backup time.

Please help me, i hope the battery charger isn't trying to scam me or even damage the batteries finally

Mercury batteries are not good,be it tubular or AGM.They have declined in quality for some time now.

It's not just about big name its about quality.Most of the known brands have proven to be tested and trusted.I have use Fullriver battery before,even though bought used from @kiekie and I used it for well over 2 years.Meanwhile,I was convinced to buy Viforce battery some years back,it barely lasted 7 months.I am sure people will buy the unknown names if their quality is also guaranteed.Multipower,Eastman,GSR are known names and top quality too though!!

The issue is not buying from Alaba but getting the authentic product.

Like @kiekie posted sometime back, you see the blue Luminous flooding Alaba, but Luminous company in Nigeria doesn't sell it.The only SMF they have is K- Star which they haven't had new stocks for months now.They now sell mainly tubular battery.

As at my last call few weeks back,the new Luminous NGRT battery goes for 164k.

Go few threads back and see the price our Alaba people are quoting.



For Index battery,there is a company in Ilupeju ,Lagos,Multi power,the bring in Index battery.They are the manufacturers of Mpower, and Multi power brand of inverter and batteries.

I called some weeks back and they just got their stock.Index SMF goes for 125k.

For Amaron,there is also a company, D2H Ltd ,that sells Amaron Quanta battery.Also in Ilupeju.

Just google the names,you will get the address and contact of these companies.

For Luminous,Simba Industries have offices in Ericmoore in Surulere,Ikeja and Oregun.

For Haustrom products( Glow Energy,Microtek,GSRinverters and batteries), their office is at Fatai Atere Way,Mushin,beside STARTIMES OFFICE).

I haven't been able to figure our for Ritar but I personally will not buy those known brands of batteries from Alaba. I have had my share of bitter experience too which made me go directly to the companies that will honour their warranty.

For the regular cheapoo 70k,80k batteries,you can go to Alaba but be ready to buy another battery 8 months down the line.

If you cannot buy from the companies because of logistics issue,then you can try out some of the sellers here.I am not promoting anyone in particular but @kiekie is someone I have dealt with on 2 different occasions and had no issues.His price might be a bit high but based on my past experiences with him he is straight forward. He might also sound a bit arrogant but its something some of us can overlook as the price to pay for quality in an environment where honesty has become gold

Imagine!!And someone is bold enough to advertise such on this platform.!!People are just outrightly dubious.But of course I do not blame him, it is the greedy people that will fall for it that do not deserve sympathy.Even 160watts Felicity I bought some months back cost 20k each and that is directly from a major distributor and someone is selling 300watts for 24,500,how now?Is he that generous?If you even ask importers ,their landing cost is way higher than that !

All the installs that use that 24v/4000w peak inverter (with the exception of the 1000w peak that is for only TV, fan, gotv and phone charging) all have deep freezers placed on it and sometimes simultaneously with washing machine when the sun is high up. One has 200w deep freezer, 80watts deep freezer and 65watts refrigerator on it simultaneously and occasionally 800 watts photocopier machine is added when printing job is to be done.

The dude that spoilt his own with presumably pressing iron initially did fine with 700watts pumping machine on his own (that guy still vexes me till today because I had to pay for the replacement from my pocket). He still spoilt my 500w I loaned him as stop gap while awaiting a replacement inverter. Up till today he didn't even bother to ask how I was able to get a replacement. I'll be waiting for him when he needs maintenance to be done on his system. That is when he will see the other side of me. Mind you, I'm not into installation business so my job for him was pro bono, as per street neighbour. I only asked that he pay the installer that climbed the roof. Having a reputation to protect was the reason I decided to get him the replacement. I don't want anybody telling street people that I got him defective items.

Suffice to say that there is this other brand of 12v/2000w peak inverter from another AliExpress seller that has been faithful for two years. I couldn't get that same inverter again, that was why I settled for the new types of 24v/4000w peak from another seller.

The highest I paid for duty charges is 4k+ naira for the 4000w peak inverter. The 1000w peak was duty free, I think.

I believe these are just inverters with no battery charging capability shey?

good. hope your inverter have adjustable settings as quanta charging profile is quite different from similar AGM in the market.

Inverter does not have adjustable settings but it's connected to solar and the charge setting can be adjusted via the mppt charge controller

I guess you mean the cycle voltage at 13.8v.Most batteries cyclic voltage is between 4.1-14.5 and standby use is between 13.5-13.8v.

He claimed they were manufactured by general battery manufacturers in Philippines that ritar, fullriver and co gave them license to manufacturer it (so fake battery)

He claimed he has prove of this, that he sent it to one nairalander odimba, I asked him to prove this, he couldn’t.

The battery doesn’t charge more than 12.5v now, before the next morning with load less than 30watt (qasa ac/dc fan, and charging of my phones) remaining volt will be 12.1v. Before 11:00am, the battery volt will be showing 12.8v or so. I have pictures proving this.

Even if the battery floats to 14.4v, once the sun start setting, the volt start dropping till it gets to 12.5v. The battery is less than 40days.

Complained to him on the 6th/7th February 2021, and he later said he will work on it and get back to me between 8th - 14th, no response. Sent him a message on the 15th, he ignored my message and didn’t open it, but he is online and posting on nairaland.

Did not know what gbm batteries look like until I was curious about the ritar battery. Found that gbm and ritar battery have the same/similar colour, there is engraving on gbm, none on ritar. Ritar battery doesn’t have holes for water, the fake he sold to me have holes for water.

The one he sold to me carries engraving with a poor blurry printing on the battery side that one can rub off using ones hand.

The setup is off grid (solar panel only). He supplied everything (solar panel, charge controller, inverter, battery, ac/dc fan and 6mm wire.

Please help me tell him to make arrangements so that I can return the fake battery he sold and he should return my money.

This is bad.How much did you pay for the batteries? I don't know why all these our alaba people are so dishonest.After my experience with Luminous blue battery with one of them,I have decided to approach companies directly to buy my batteries if need be.GBM is a useless battery.In fact all those China batteries are useless with the exception of few.99% of those batteries are printed in Alaba there

Idk if this is still relevant, but are your night loads all energy efficient? If you can replace non energy efficient gadgets with energy efficient ones, it will really help.

I am running two sets of used100ahr/12v & a 150ahr all parallel system. Bought different times from different sellers.

My charging isn't very optimized but my load on them is so light that the batteries are still going strong 2yrs+

Note that during the dayi am not at home so daytime load is zero.

My night loads are all efficient. The challenge is that during holidays my children don't get to sleep early.So light demand is a bit higher than day time and utility availability is unpredictable to charge the batteries except I use gen from 7pm to say 11pm.I want to get rid if using gen totally.

I have decided to retain my 200 ah 24volts solar for day time( I am changing the batteries) and do another 12v setup for my night use paralleling 3 units of of 200ah batteries.This will only work from 7pm to 5am .In between these hours I am sure utility supply would be available for minimum of 4 hours and if not,utility is guaranteed from 5am daily to 12noon.I believe this can charge the batteries for night use. I might decide to add panels later but that is not in the immediate although I have a spare mppt controller but I think that would be a waste considering the system is only for periodic use.

Assuming the cell voltage is balanced 26.4 at no load should be about 80% SOC. For it to trip off at 25.5v then it means one of the cells got low which is an indication of unbalanced cells

You need something similar to victron BMV to get actual capacity. There is a cheaper one that was shared in previous thread. However you can estimate, charge to full then put load of known consumption, don't change the load until the battery goes off, the duration it took can give you a very rough idea of the capacity.

@ojesky, you mentioned something about sunfit panels sometime back .I know you said it was over performing.Is the experience still same?Someone trying to go the route of their panels and battery. Told him battery,he is on his own!.Panel I can help him find out

lifepo4 cells need slight compression to keep the inshape and not to loose capacity, that flimsy duct tape there is incapable of that.

did seller say they are new cells?, how much did you buy them. are the QR codes still visible?

whats the make of the cells?.
from the pic, seems he placed them sideways, would hv loved to see the top/terminals.
whats the size /type of bms in there?

edit: those look like qr codes, 2 gold, 2 gray, could you scan them with your fone, lets see, if we can get more info

One reason why I have dropped the idea of LIFEPO4 for now.I don't want to have headaches after spending so much.Yes,Felicity but their capacity is technically 150ah.

If you can add another 2 panels to it, you are fine, so as to get extra charging, takes care of losses, and get max charging experience for your batteries.



Wasting money on a new seperate system is not ideal.

The max PV WATTS of panel is 1440watts.I don't think the present set up can cope with my night demand as I do not like to discharge my batteries beyond 50%.Adding additional 2 units of 260watss will only ensue my battery is charged fully and in shirt time.Even if the batteries are fully charged till 6pm,it can't take me overnight without going beyong my 50% DOD

then don't mix the old batteries with the new ones. when you mix such, the old batteries pull down the new ones to their weak state. get a different battery bank if you can make it bigger than the old one. use the new one for day time loads tv fridge.while old one for night time (low watts fan)...

The old ones cannot support my night load at all.It is weak already.I have a separate set up for fridge and freezer independent of the main one for house loads.

plan b better option[b], you did not state how long you been using the existing banks. don't mix old batteries with new batteries. recipe for disaster.
design a different bank and enjoy, I have similar setups multiple banks. day time load is on the bigger bank. by 10pm I switch to another bank till morning.. you eventually don't on genetors for months and your nepa bill is less.

I am getting new sets of batteries.Old batteries already weak.

I am about to finally increase my battery bank and I need the input of more experienced folks here :

I have a 24volts system of 2 209ah batteries which serves perfectly during the day since itbus connected to 4 units of 260 watts panel.Public power is at an average of 12 hours a day spread between 5am-12noon and 7pm - 12midnight( the night portion isn't always guaranteed though)
Most times I use gen at night between 7pm and 11pm if there is no power so as to ensure battery is charged for over night use.

My plan now is not to use gen at all.

Plan A

Increase my battery bank to 4 units of 200ah ,add additional/separate panels through a separate charge controller(available already) to increase charging capacity of the 4 units

Plan B
Set up a separate inverter( also available) with 2 units of 200ah batteries strictly for night use.

Which do you expert think is best please?

I have used both the 200ah and 100ah Ritar batteries and they are very very very good.I am however sceptical about them now because of so many fakes( Coincidentally, I bought the 105ah Ritar from @kiekie in 2018 as used then and out of the 3 units,2 just got bad,those were the days when kiekie never too like money .I dont know the Luminous you are taking about but if it is the blue one,please do not even think about it.I do not have first hand user experience with Felicity but I have heard people say its crap.Perhaps may be because it's gel and need proper charging voltage to work optimally. There is however this battery, Glow Energy from Haus Strom Ltd,that battery is a work horse. My rule of the thumb is that if the battery ain't within the range 125k-135k considering the present rate, you cannot guarantee its reliability
