Nigeria can still get it right, but there is no time |
Beginning on a question mode. If former president Obasanjo had taken loans for the transformation of the telecommunication sector in 2001, how much do you think would have been borrowed to achieve this much? If the defunct NITEL or a government agency were to be the sole telecommunication service provider till today, how efficient do you think the telecommunication system would be today? Considering the lofty action of former president Obasanjo to liberalise Nigeria's telecommunication sector, which brought and end to the monopoly of NITEL. Nigeria as at 2001, moved from 270,000 mobile phone subscribers to about 200 million in 2021. With over $75bn investment over 20 years, a contribution of about 17% to the GDP, and provision of direct and indirect jobs for millions of Nigerians, one would appreciate the effort of the paradigm shift in the telecommunication sector. The government has generated millions of dollars as revenue from the telecommunication sector alone despite the fact that she has invested such a little amount in it. It is such an unfortunate situation that government keeps wasting funds on several other sectors of the economy as a result of implementing wrong policies. The efficiency in the telecommunication sector keeps improving, while facility upgrade is consistent, putting Nigeria at par with developed nations. Nigeria would probably be considered a developed nation if other sectors of the economy had undergone similar transformation the telecommunication sector experienced. Former presidents witnessed the transformation brought by implementation of the right policy on telecommunication sector. One would ask, why such a similar policy was not applied to provision of electricity, railway transportation and crude oil refining, just to mention a few. More than $20bn have been squandered by these leaders on electricity provision, yet, Nigerians pay for darkness, businesses relocate from Nigeria to neighbouring countries with better power supply, contributing to high unemployment in Nigeria. Surviving businesses generate their own power, leading to high cost of production as this makes some imported products sell cheaper than the locally produced ones. Subsidy on petrol in 2022 is up to 1.4 trillion naira, cost of aviation fuel and diesel have skyrocketed. China is making so much for providing loans for railway services in Nigeria, yet the railway infrastructure cannot be speedily provided because of so much political constraints. The railway penetration in Nigeria is below 5%, this creates a lacuna for massive investment to reverse the already over reliance on road transportation. Modern services and infrastructure and abundant jobs can be provided without government's funding if the the government is ready to open up the economy for the right investors. |

Put the pic of the girl in your house, or make her pic your do. She must ask you questions. Stop fornicating, go and marry. |
Ladies are Soo soooo xoooo funny. Your tone of asking the question means you have accepted the job emotionally. 70% of your intellect has started collecting the salary. The romance offer is by the way which seems you may give in to if the pressure is much. Funny enough, you might resume the job and owed several months, plus him taking advantage of you. Then leaving with premium tears. |
Did she apply? If no, discard. If yes, ask those in Asaba to verify the venue for you. |
I thought Russia was a world power. Thought it would take Russia 3 days to take not just the Ukrainian capital, but whole of Ukraine. Why the numerous call for fighters in Mariapoul to surrender? Why the utter destruction of that Port City? I thought by now, Russia would have severely punished all countries supporting Ukraine. I thought by now, Russia would have cut off Europe from its gas. Anyway, battles are always between a so called powerful country against a weak country. |
Don't abandon your friend. Visit him but don't go alone. Go with your wife if you are married. |
Rubbish dot com |
Buhari's and his supporters are shameless. To his supporters, it is an abomination to criticize or condemn Buhari for maladministration we all suffer. In a sane country, Buhari would have resigned, Tinubu would have begun a Nationwide protest To bubu, IPOB and Igboho are the terrorists, yet Buhari has unleashed bandits and herdsmen to make people cry everyday.

Antoeni:You forgot to add YAHOO YAHOO |
Macgyver1:Firstly, you didn't fix your gender on your nairaland profile, but I assume you are one of those wicked and senseless women who don't allow men and young men have peace in their homes. You should be avoided like a plague. |
Ok |
dmostcheerful:I don't need you to accept my opinion, in which I made sense all through. Give your own pieces of advice if you can. Get a mother who is a witch and a sadist and make her your adviser, make her a regular part of your home and expect peace in your home. You are a kind of person who come to cry adult cry on nairaland, after enjoying private premium tears. |
Seems you have taken your mum too closer than your wife to be. Your mum has maybe 20+ more years to live. Your wife has maybe 50+ years to live with you and you alone. Your mum is separated from your dad,so what kind of girl or home do you think she would want you to have, a peaceful one? Beg your wife to be, do secret wedding without your pepper mummy. Exclude her from your wedding and marriage/home, else any girl your home may not know peace and hypertension/ heart attack may knock you down soonest. |
Is this a local version of Russia-Ukraine war? |
Buhari and Femi Adesina will be glad with this kind of news. Do you know why? 1) 98% of the media houses in Nigeria don't broadcast good news about this administration. 2) Media houses seems to be the only opposition party in Nigeria as the PDP doesn't know how to play opposition |
[quote author=Johnnycastro18 post=111142556]By that assertion, does that mean arm robbers, ritualist who commits this crimes and build mansions and companies are also doing the right thing, because the contribute towards the nation economy ? BRILLIANT. In Warri language, 'too much sense'. |

Rubbish. crying adult cry. He should contest for presidency on wheel chair as if he wasn't one of the architects of Nigeria's destruction. |
Buhari has handed Nigeria over to terrorists, bandits and kidnappers. God will deliver us from the Nigerian Pharaoh in Jesus name |
Previous governors created several ministries and agencies, they call it "empowerment" over here. It is a means of rewarding political loyalists in which governor Okowa decided not to abolish. Politicians would rather empower their loyalists than create jobs |
Did you listen to Angela Merkel, German Chancellor's reply to Chimmamanda Adechie's question on why Siemens has not helped Nigeria to solve her electricity problem? Then you'll know the unemployment was set up to punish Nigerians Imagine the capital, technology, equipment, and experience Siemens would have added to Nigeria, which would have brought more than 10 million jobs. Leadership is our problem |
If you have all it takes to study and stay abroad after your studies, that's better. But if not, take the job, else they will advice you to ride okada |
