ndu_chucks: Once again, you failed miserably!. The most respected Igbo forumites and real champions of the Igbo cause were here and did not honour your childish admonition. Some of them were advocating petitioning NASS to pass a bill to make Feb 3 a public holiday in Ikemba's honour while you were goofing off. Look for the thread, olodo. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-861515.0.html ndu-chucks, First of all, I followed the link you provided, and every Igbo I saw there, including the one dissing Ojukwu all posted on the 2nd. Secondly, the stay off is a PERSONAL thing. It is personal because talk is cheap, and you learn a lot by keeping quiet for once. I was not here for almost 2 days (personal), so I wouldn't know and don't care to know who was here or who wasn't. My dues to the great Ikemba of Biafra is being paid, one by one. I also want to say that I have been receiving LOTS of emails from EVERYBODY. Some of the emails are from honest and decent folks (Igbo and non-Igbo), others are from people without honest motives. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. One of the reasons Ojukwu is considered GREAT and unique is that he was able to weather ALL the storms and acquitted himself well throughout his leadership of Ndigbo (which is one of the TOUGHEST jobs on earth!). I will do exactly the same. We are not engaged in a sprint, but a marathon RELAY race. I am currently doing my lap of the race, and I will do a GREAT job! What I know for sure is that when the election for the next Eze comes up, I will personally make sure that a candidate's history of being SELFLESS here will play a KEY role in my endorsement of that candidate. Another quality I will look for is FOLLOWERSHIP. If one cannot follow, how can the person lead? God bless Ndigbo, and other Nigerians with love for fellow countrymen in their hearts! |

I use this opportunity to thank everyone (Easterner and non-Easterner) who honored our beloved Ikemba by staying off Nairaland just for ONE day. The honor is PERSONAL and the idea is to give the individual an opportunity to stop talking for once but to THINK and REFLECT. I was amazed by what I was able to think about and the conclusions I reached. I won't share it yet, but will certainly do so with time here. Our mourning continues of course until the Ikemba is committed to mother earth. Thank you once more, and may your own honor increase! Here I stand. Would you say that Edo is linguistically CLOSE to Yoruba? If so, how close enough is it for the Oba of Benin to leap into it?
Nigeria has an official language called English language. Arewa may try imposing Hausa on the North because almost every Northerner speaks Hausa. A LOT of Easterners speak Igbo too, but we NEVER required any non-Igbo to speak Igbo as an official language; we all spoke English at official levels.
That is my point. Please save the history for another time. You should not force anyone to drop his language. PERIOD. |

jason123: You have some truths there. But please, he did not only believe in his tribe after all, Enahoro was his deputy. The problem between the west and the MW as you rightly pointed out was the Oba and Ogboni stuff. I was educating some folks about this but you know how Nairaland is, they would simply debunk the truth because they can.
Yes, he also wanted to hold meetings in Yoruba. In yoruba land, they believe everyone in the West came from Odua; from the Benin (the fore bearer of the Uhrobos and Itsekiris) in the East to the Onipopo in Benin/Togo republic. After all, Yoruba in itself is a common wealth of Nations; from the Ijebu to the Ekiti to the Aworis and even Benin.
I am glad you did your research. Na wa o. So Awolowo wanted a whole Oba of Benin to undertake a crash course in Yoruba language; a monarch whose heritage, culture and lineage may likely be older than Yoruba ones. Nna nothing man no go hear for naija o. It is like expecting the Obong of Calabar to attend meetings conducted in Igbo by Zik. You see part of why there is no basis for comparison between how Igbo treated Eastern Nigerian minorities and how Yoruba treated Western minorities. To me, it is even clearly more laughable now, that the Edo will join Oduduwa nation. Well, I hope they don't want to lose their language. lol. |

It did not, however, say when Southerners asked Northerners to leave the area. The ACF had earlier asked southerners living in the North to ignore the ultimatum, which sent panic across the country.
“Similarly, the ACF calls upon and enjoins the leaders and members of Boko Haram to realise that no religious doctrine permits the killing of innocent lives. It is important to point out to them that they are inflicting terror, death and destruction upon people not in anyway responsible for whatever injustice they believe has been done to them. “While it is true that the actions of Boko Haram are condemnable, it is also necessary to call upon the Federal Government and all our political leaders as well as all those in positions of authority to recall theUN Resolution 1963 of 2010 which urges governments around the world to address underlying causes of civil unrest and social conflicts rather than resort to hard military power which rarely solve them. Eziokwu! This is why I personally believe that either Ohanaeze Ndigbo has become completely useless and irrelevant, or Uwazuruike's leadership (of MASSOB) qualities are not adequate enough. Do you know how many MASSOB members that have been gunned down by the Nigerian police and army? Yet we don't hear anything close to this in Igboland? This is the FIRST TIME any group has raised this UN issue in addressing how the Nigerian government deals with dissidents. Inspite of all the educated people in Ohanaeze, no one has ever raised this point, or even approached the UN for intervention. At this time, I have to say that anyone from the Eastern region who ridicules the idea of a holiday for Ojukwu is truly a goat. You can never deny the man his place in history, the minimum of which is that he was a governor of the WHOLE Eastern region, and he acquitted himself very creditably in our time of crisis, when Easterners irrespective of tribe were being hunted down and killed in the North and West of Nigeria. One calabar guy escaped from Kaduna and narrated his story. It was not different from what other Easterners experienced. The civil war itself was fought by ALL Easterners on BOTH sides. Some Igbo fought for Nigeria, just like some non-Igbos of Eastern region. It is self deceit to distant from Ojukwu and what he stood for as Governor of Eastern region which produced the Aburi document which would have served EVERY tribe in the East, and even Nigeria for that matter. Even Yorubas are now calling for implementation of Aburi - a solid 45 years after they rejected it. I would advise every minority Easterner to never forget, that we Ndigbo can stay in Nigeria and make hay. In fact if we do, it would LIKELY serve us more than them. It is already serving us more even today. You can quote me on that. The problem with the Igbo man (which I try to counsel them against in private conversations) is that we are too consciencious when dealing with other Nigerians. Most of the time, we lament the injustices against oil producing communities of the "SS" (non-Igbo areas, and some areas which deny being Igbo) as passionately as we would lament whatever we feel that is wrong with the way Nigeria treats us. It does not mean that we cannot join the thieves from elsewhere, ravage the place and leave it to die a slow death. We can do that. In fact if some of you people continue this mindset, Igbo will DEFINITELY change with time to resemble those some of you respect more . We shall then see how things would look. This Ojukwu's burial will help open our eyes more concerning how some of you view us, and will likely shape our vision for ourselves in Nigeria. So, BE VERY CAREFUL. If you don't want to obverse any holiday, fine, no problem. Go about your business, as I'm sure that some Igbo will go about their business. But don't come here talking nonsense. There can only be ONE burial for Ojukwu, but the future of Nigeria is still very undefined. Don't eat today and die tomorrow. My Igbo brothers, please ignore Yoruba devils on this thread. Here I stand! |

Negro_Ntns: this was my response to bashr in another post.
Airport, Niger bridge. . . .these are all access to the landlocked ibos. Thats empowerement! He wants to empower Ijaw as the top dawg in Eatsern territory. Why would Gej be interested in such a need, why would he waste the opportunity now that he has it to reverse the encroachment of his ancestral lands and riverine by a regional rival? If ibo can be successful in trade why not Ijaw? The port is very important to Ijaw and the control of it and status of it as a convergent market is very critical. The airport will compete with it and ibo access to the sea will deny Ijaw the control.
I am not saying this to cause dividision. . . but again, It is apparent that you guys lack political insight. . . you are not politically mature enough to understand national politics and how to play it in the Nigerian context.
Yes the privatisoation of sea security has impact on Yoruba. . . but in a very remote dimension. It has a direct and fatal impact on the actualization of ibo interest and voice in your own homeland in East. IF Nigeria divides and you are ejected from West, which other access do you have to the sea? It is in East . . . in Ijaw area. By proactively sitting on that gateway now, Gej makes it impracticable for ibo to succeed without depending and defaulting to Ijaw voice. Your hatred for Yoruba has blinded you you cant see that you are politically walking into a dead end trap.
Gej is slowly working on a plan that will dissolve Nigeria. . . boko is the instrument to make it happen. This is why he is inactive against them. . . .they aiding his cause to divide it. But he doesnt want it to happen too fast before he has installed Ijaw as the de facto voice in East. Political maradona! Yoruba understand this, Huasa understand this. . . but you ibos out of sentiments are marrooned under his Azikiwe spell. . . . he will make you impotent and subservient to Dokubo. The way you are thinking is what needs to be "upgraded" or changed entirely. You say that Igbo are not politically mature, pray tell me if there has ever been anything close to "wetie" in the East. Your parochial mindset is why the Western Region never produced a minority premier in all of its existence, while the Eastern region did. The same reason is why you could not vote for Jonathan in 2011 elections. To you, he had no numbers big enough to support his candidacy, so, too bad for him! Unfortunately for you, Igbo (their brothers) came to the rescue and he became president. Now, most of you out of frustration call him "retardeen". My friend, the only person who should listen to you is someone with deep tribalistic mindset, who suspects every moves by some from another tribe. Your region was the first to shed its minority into a different region. Ours lasted till the war; so, we are used to sharing our political future with minorities in the East. Spare us your sermon, we don't need it! When Nigeria disintegrates, there will be a unity of purpose between Ndigbo and Ijaw. The port being built at Ibaka Akwa Ibom state is the one YOU should be worried about, not me. |

Sam_Ikenna: GEJ retired Ivy Okoronkwo because of what? to satisfy the north and that doesn't ring a bell to you? GEJ is scared of the core north and that's not right. He should not be scared of any group in Nigeria. Common sense and experience has taught me to be very very careful of men who are scared of their fellow men for no reason. Men who are uncomfortable or scared of their fellow men usually turn out to be serial killers, paedophiles, women beaters, or in house terror. Now which one is GEJ? You see - he is going to be an in-house terror plain and simple. He will become a terror to people of the south because hes scared of dealing with bad apples from the north. Sacking Igbo, SS, or Yoruba just to replace with core north tells me a lot about him. GEJ, up till now hasn't sacked all the generals that deployed the military in the airport during Yaradua saga yet he calls himself a man. I'm ashamed of him. GEJ cant be Ijaw, he acts so cowardly. He is begging Boko Haram to come out and have dinner when OBJ didn't even think twice before sacking Odi. If not for the death of Ironsi GEJ would have made Ironsi to the fourth power. All these years we waited for a short at the presidency - look at what we got, shame shame shame. He wants to be everybody's friend, really? Nigeria is a brutal place and a president should be wise and man enough to kick asses if need be. Dont sack your brothers to please with an implacable foe, its just garbage. Put your foot down! You are man for goodness sakes! I respected GEJ up to a point but right now hes just confused on what to do even as our people are being smoked like salmon in the Indian reservation. I know I will probably support him till the end because of sentiment, that's it - sentiment. My brother, we are morally, politically, geopolitically and historically bound to continue supporting GEJ at least until the end of THIS tenure. Personally I will start SERIOUS criticism of GEJ from the end of this year. I have concrete things I judge him on, among which is the Enugu International Airport and the Niger bridge. I really don't care much about poltical appointments, afterall we have Ngozi Okonjo Iwealla, Pius Anyim, and the aviation minister lady, yet we have not seen any sign of work at the Niger bridge, or even a serious shot at building a beffiting international airport infrastructure at Enugu. Soon, I will go back to my earlier beliefs of development instead of appointments. GEJ has REAL reasons to be afraid of the core North, afterall never forget that he cannot change just because he became Nigeria's president. If you have ball, you have balls, whether you are president or not. If you want to criticize GEJ, look no further than the farm at Ota. |

Negro_Ntns: wha wait and get facts?? By the time facts are out its too late to reverse whatever action is needed to implement the plan. You are using the same wait and see attitude that Gej encouraged with boko haram.
There is no wait and see here, the outcome is a heavy cost to national security. Envision that Gej's private navy becomes true. What stops a Yoruba president in future from privatising air national guard for air space and border patrol? Would ibo or ijaw or hausa want Yoruba to be in charge of air space? Imagine Hausa president in future coming up with private army frontier guards. Do you want your borders or does Yoruba want its borders controled by Hausa?
If these future possibilities are scary, then Gej's idea is scary and should be killed in incubation. There is no wait and see! So you have shared all the military positions between yourself and your civil war allies. I dey laff. Y'all couldn't even meet your military quota in 1966. lol When we Igbo start our own, we will have COMPLETE fighting force -navy, airforce, army and marines! |
