Posted by: Kobojunkie Didn't this woman make similar statements like 7 years ago?Yes she did but OBJ and his Northern allies threw her off. Sanusi then finished off whatever she achieved while she worked with Soludo. Nigeria we hail thee. |
I've always loved and respected this man. That respect just went through the roof. He was the REAL DEAL. ![]() |
., He was not just actor but Biafran soldier -Victor Eriabie, Izozo producer By JOSFYN UBA Saturday, August 13, 20 The first reaction to the news of his death was that of disbelief. The news was horrifying. I just couldn’t believe it. Yes, Sam Loco Efe was in his 70s. I didn’t believe he would just die so soon. If you knew him, he was too playful and so much vibrant and alive that you wouldn’t think he would die. Even at that age, he could play with a 20-year-old as if they were mates. I know his kids and he had a good rapport with them I got to know Sam Loco Efe as a man who believed in the ideology and equality of the Nigerian state. Way back Sam Loco believed in this. There was a meeting held by late elder statesmen late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, late Nnamdi Azikiwe and even, the Ikemba and they were discussing the issue of true federalism for Nigeria and while the meeting lasted, an argument ensued. Midway however, the East backed out of the meeting and seceded. And this same Sam Loco believed in that ideology. Although Nigerians came to know him as an actor but it would surprise you to know that the great Sam Loco Efe fought for Biafra. I am telling you this because a lot of people did not know him. There is another guy, called Ben Agbota Okegwale. He is a writer. He and Sam Loco featured in the famous play, Langbodo in FESTAC 77. Sam Loco played the character called Kako and prior to this time, he and Okegwale had fought for Biafra. So, he had always been in the East. He took off from there to Benin. And that is why he could speak all the languages. It was through hardship and interaction and all of that, that he could pick all those languages. So, apart from speaking the Bini language, the other language he could speak was Igbo. And some other things happened eventually when he moved to the North, I think somewhere in Jos where, again, he got to know the Hausa language. In fact, he was a genius. He could speak many languages, actually. I remember this play too, when some Spanish people came and before we knew it, Sam Loco was speaking Spanish. We were stunned that he could speak the Spanish language. He was a man who picked and spoke languages easily. He had that gift. From the Biafran war, he came to FESTAC after which he established one theatre group, I can’t remember the name now, which eventually led to the establishment of the then Bendel Arts Council. So, but he became too big a fish to remain in that Arts Council as it were. He moved down to Lagos but before he came to Lagos, he had played a character called ukata biribiri in the drama series, Hotel De Jordan. Sam Loco Efe was the first actor I have met that I can conveniently refer to as a complete actor because he could play any role. Even before the emergence of Nollywood, he was a properly bred stage actor. He was adjudged the best actor in FESTAC 77 because of the way he played that role of Kako in Langbodo and when Hotel De Jordan became very famous, Ukata biribiri was a character people got hooked onto He did television shows and other series. Ever before Jimi Solanke started his children’s stories and plays on TV, Sam Loco Efe had done all that long ago. In fact, he was like a pathfinder in that path of telling children stories and singing for them Relationship with Sam It was that of a big brother and uncle because I came so close to him and discovered that he was man with whom spending 10 hours would just look like 30 minutes. Now, let me tell you about one big misconception a lot people had about him. They would always tell you that he was a drunk. He was this and that in terms of drinking. I can authoritatively tell you that Sam Loco was a man who, when we sat to drink as it were in those days, he would nurse, caress and told stories over his drinks while some of us had guzzled down more than that. He could drink a bottle of beer within some hours telling stories and played a lot. He took life very easy. However, there was a tragedy that befell him at some point in his life. And that tragedy changed the face of his life. It was big tragedy for him because he was a man who sincerely loved his wife but unfortunately, he lost his wife. At that critical and most trying period of his wife’s death, a new chapter started for him and that was when he started drinking, which was the type where would caress one bottle over a long period, telling stories. Looking at a man like Sam Loco Efe, having lived and died without being honoured not even for once, makes one weep for this country. He wasn’t the kind of man who would go and lobby to be given awards or recognized and it is painful. I heard President Jonathan eulogizing Sam Loco. I heard Govs Fashola and Adams Oshiomhole talking about him, which means they knew him, enjoyed him and he brought joy into their living rooms at one point or the other and yet they never thought it wise to honour him. I think it is absolutely unkind and wrong. It is sad. And those who can hustle and lobby and have never impacted anything positive in the country are being recognized and given National honours and awards. When I was going to do my movie, Izozo, although, I contacted Sam Loco but he was billed to travel at that time and later Sadiq Dabar took the role which was why he wasn’t in the first episode of the film. Right now, that man, Sadiq Dabar is alive, nobody is celebrating him but by the time he goes, they would remember he was so great. It is not right. Legends should be celebrated in life. Sam Loco featured in the Things Fall Apart play. We need to come together and appreciate ourselves. Let me tell you. This country does not care to celebrate their best hands in any field, unless those who steal and commit crimes that are rewarded, unfortunately Another professional ally of Sam Loco, Soibifa Dokubo, a prominent theatre practitioner and photo documentary person gave a fresh insight about the late ace actor. He said: “I called him Uncle Sam. I dare not call him Sam Loco Efe even though he is no longer alive. The immense respect I had for him and still have for him is his penchant for very high level of professionalism. Unfortunately, Nigerians called him the Nollywood actor. That I think is also a let down on his journey through the art of acting, singing and theatre. Sam Loco in FESTAC 77 was the best actor we ever had. From that time till he died was a role interpreter. Uncle Sam had an uncanny sense of humour that not many would understand because they didn’t have the depth to understand his philosophy and his thinking and so they would think he is making fun. He had a virile mind that he saw issues from different perspectives. My first encounter with Uncle Sam will be difficult to recall because I met him different times at several different occasions. At once, as father, at another, let me be frank with you as a beer mate. We lived in the same place, slept on the same bed and ate from the same plate. But I am proud because we shared the same stage when the National Troupe of Nigeria staged Things Fall Apart. Till today, his performance in that show is still a yardstick for me to know if I have even began attempting to do thorough research before coming on stage. It is unfortunate that Uncle Sam’s image lowered to a comic Nollywood actor. He is, was and will remain the only person that will be dubbed the stage marshal. His dexterity on stage was something else The misconception about him It was an unfortunate misconception. He celebrated his drinks. Yes, he must have his bottle of Gulder and his cigarette beside him, but the bottle would likely be the only one throughout because he would run in and out of performance to take from it. That didn’t make him a drunkard. But his insistence on that his beer and ciga would make you think that without it, uncle Sam couldn’t function. That wasn’t true because how many of that beer did he guzzle? I would rather say that he used to romance his beer. If they say he was a drunk, well, maybe for them, yes because that was how they saw him in their myopic understanding. He was never a saint. He was at times, difficult to track down his thought processes. I came into much contact with him after the tragedy of the loss of his wife. And I know the consistency about that incident. He said no woman was good enough for him. And so, he never remarried. If Sam Loco Efe meant anything to those people in authority or that they thought he was distinguished in his profession, why didn’t they recognize him? To me, Sam Loco Efe was the Mandela of the Nigerian theatre and should have been accorded that respect. But I pray that people who have access to being published should stop being hypocritical about him. I will not praise him. I will not mourn him. What I owe Uncle Sam is to continue to better my performance on the stage. Let me ask a question: How well have the authorities both federal and state treated artistes? Except when the Governor is commissioning a project, then, they would be called for a command performance and it ends there as compared to those in the round leather game. Artistes are the conscience of the people. What has the government done to help the welfare of the artistes. Now, all the government officials singing Sam Loco’s eulogy, how many times have they gone to watch him in performance at the stage which is his forte? For me, Sam Loco’s vying into what you call Nollywood is his retirement from active stage performance. Onwa Anambra is the hidden GOLD in ACN. If the party is serious about mounting a serious challenge for the presidency, CNN is their only choice. CNN is a seasoned politician and an action executive. ![]()

This information helps a lot. |
Posted by: Bliss4Lyfe Dat is the idea, if APGA must present a candidate in 2015. There is no reason Southeast or Southsouth should support any core North Candidate from PDP apart from Mark. Apga support for David Mark with an Igbo VP (Okonjo) or vice versa, should be based on the Presidency coming South East after his tenure. The major flaw in your analysis is David Mark. Frankly I don't believe any sound politician in the SE would support his candidature even if we decide to cede this chance to the North. He has failed as a senate president, with no major amendment to the constitution credited to him. He is just a lame duck collecting his own "egunje" from the executive. Tell me ONE thing David Mark stands for. Your other observations are correct IMHO. |
Posted by: igbogolo Surprising no one is giving serious thought to the RIGHT candidate, irrespective of geological affiliations, that can move this country forward. No body is talking about the right person to tackle the issues in the country. If by now we are able to produce a 4 paged response filled with Tinubu, Atiku, Fashola, David Mark, Okorocha, Ngige, North West, North North, South East, south West, Down Down, Up down, Nyansh Nyansh, then something is seriously wrongYour observation is halfway correct. I say halfway because I have a concrete reason (and I suspect others do too) for supporting him. The only reason why I support a candidate such as Ngige is because he is the hidden GEM of Nigerian leadership right now. The man comes packed with all the qualities you would need in a successful Nigerian president; and they are as follows: (1) Highly intelligent (2) Politically savvy and witty (3) Action man per excellence; more action less talking (Isn't that what ACN says it wants?) (4) Calm and Collected (never loses his temper) (5) Iron will and determination (to outlast the competition) (6) A man of humble mien (to douse the flames of egoism killing Nigeria) (7) A proven executive with concrete achievements while in office (go to Anamrba state and see for yourself what he did in less than 3 years). These seven attributes set Gov Chris N. Ngige (CNN) apart from other would be challengers as far as the presidential race is concerned. The only question is whether ACN leadership can see these things and realize that it has a GEM ready to be marketed to the nation, and in so doing kill many birds with one stone. Onwa, your record speaks for itself. |
^^ So, what is your point? First you tried to shout to the roof top that it is the turn of the North. Now you are trying to shoot down Okorocha. The question is, would you vote for Ngige even if he runs under ACN? If the answer is yes, simply say so. If not say so as well. No one is oblivious of the realities of ethnic suspicions in Nigeria. What the poster hoped is that it would be surmounted with a ticket like Ngige's under ACN. |
Posted by: Ibime If you want to know the true calibre of a man, look at his wife.I have to grudgingly agree. which is why I've been trying to "upgrade" my wife recently. ![]() |
Posted by: dem_people ^I believe that there is a very thin line between "social welfare" and politics proper. I hate talk bodies where folks simply go to talk, drink palm wine and go home. We've had that all through these years. Ohanaeze is on the right path. It is involved in the socio-politico-cultural emancipation of Igboland. Enough of splitting hairs. We have too many Igbo political bodies and all they do is divide us into infinitesimal parts, hence impotent whole. @topic, GREAT initiative by Ohanaeze and Uwazurike. |
Posted by: Bliss4Lyfe ^^@ Onlytruth, did u hear wat my sister edo.girl just spelt out for u in a few minutes. That is word, not from the heart but brain. Who says women only express emotions and not logic can sit down. She only put forward an opinion. She has some points which I have already thought about but decided not to discuss here, because my Nnewi folks say that "a na agwo ogwu odo anya, a ha etii ye oso" (pure unadulterated Nnewi) meaning "when you are preparing an eye medicine, you must not add pepper to the concoction." ![]() I am about helping a potentially powerful idea come to pass. BTW I think she is wrong about Igbo not voting for Obasanjo and Abiola, but I don't want to derail this thread. |
Spokesperson Charity Khumalo said “We can no longer stand by while these savages tear themselves apart.” this one got me rollin' Who would've thought that an African can say this about a so called first world country. |
Posted by: Bliss4Lyfe ^^ @ Onlytruth, I guess dis might be the doom the American's prophesied, becos no way the North will fold their hands and allow the South to form a collision and stand back and watch an Igbo be President in 2015, not so.If you read my original post, you would see that I put a little caveat there with regards to SW -IF TINUBU DELIVERS. This is the only way SW would vote Ngige ticket (at least like they "voted" for GEJ). As for the second bolded, David Mark is NOT our candidate. He has been a senate president for more than one term now, yet SE has yet to get a sixth state, or other issues such as true federalism. You may be right about North rallying round him (though I still doubt that because it means the core North would NEVER rule again), but lets wait and watch. |
Isn't it interesting to see that NE and NW rejected the indigeneship part because "such amendment was regarded as a Christian-Igbo agenda, to dominate the core North and Christianise the zone." Where is ndu_chucks? !! You see why I find it hard to drop the idea of a Biafra? For me, Nigeria CAN NEVER WORK if they feel that way. I can understand the NC feelings because of the Fulani herdsmen menace. |
Posted by: Bliss4Lyfe @ Onlytruth, U forgot Okorocha Apga in your equation. The truth is Ndiigbo will not vote ACN wen APGA is fielding a popular candidate such as Okorocha with the same North central vice from Kwara and a muslim. Add dat to your equation and it is clear David Mark is the winner 2015 becos he will gain votes in both east, west, north, south and overwhelmingly central.I did not forget about Okorocha. APGA will likely NOT field a candidate if ACN beats them in first giving the ticket to Ngige. Ohanaeze would not support two Igbo candidates. They would likely ask any other aspiring Igbo to drop the idea. This is when the new found cohesion in Igbo leadership comes to play. In fact if Ngige plays it well, Ohanaeze would also endorse him as soon as he gets that ticket. Believe me, David Mark is only popular among his fellow |
For the first time in a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time, I think the poster is talking some serious sense. His points are logical and apt. The unspoken point behind his point is that PDP is only so powerful when the incumbent is contesting. But even if Jonathan is contesting, a Ngige/NC ACN ticket would be too powerful to overcome. The SE/SS(if Jonathan is not contesting), NC, and SW (if Tinubu delivers), would overwhelm a David Mark/Okonjo (Ndigbo would Not vote for a VP ticket if a son is a Presidential candidate) ticket because the core North would likely vote CPC or another core northerner. The Jonathan presidency dealt a serious blow to northern cohesion. So, in effect, a David Mark ticket would only win clearly in NC. |
@masquerade djustice (a hiding coward) and Desola ( a deeply embedded coward )Why are you folks shouting yourselves hoarse? Folks like myself are having the laugh of my life because it is now abundantly clear that most Yorubas on this forum are against this genuine attempt to unify Nigeria; and ONLY YORUBAS. Now the question becomes: WHY DID YOU FIGHT AGAINST EASTERN SECESSION IN 1967? What really made you fight to keep Igbos in Nigeria? I am now beginning to think it is either due to extreme stupidity or extreme cowardice. You could not see what you really wanted in 1967; WE DID. Today, you are pissing your pants just because an idea that can create a real nation out of Nigeria is being touted. You see why I say that you people are stupid cowards? If MASSOB start tomorrow, you would swear that you idiots would join aboki to kill Igbos again if we want to leave. I pray they pass this law. I wish they pass this law so that we can really see what you would do. If you as much as try any nonsense secession or targeting of our people and other Nigerians in Lagos, we will team with other Nigerians to chase you all into Benin republic. Buncha goats. |
^^ Ol' boy this is where my "debate" with you ends as usual. My position is clear enough now. Thanks for debating. . .and lose that cowardice 'cos it causes diarrhea of the mouth! ![]() Signing off, Yours truly, Onlytruth. ![]() |
Posted by: Obiagu1 Only the weak complain and cry foul about this law.Bulls-eye! The bolded summarizes it all. ![]() |
Posted by: T9ksy Do i need to remind you how many southerners were killed in the north in the wake of the implementation of this sharia law in part of the country? When you stop sounding like a sisi, you would begin to see reasons. Fear and logic don't go hand in hand. Again you miss the point when you use terms such as "long throat". If I have long throat, I would then speed up the disintegration of Nigeria because I'm sure my tribe will outperform others in terms of production and export (I'm not boasting about this point; it speaks for itself). I'm just sick of a country where folks think through their anuses; fight against whoever wants to secede; and still expect greatness from same country. Like I said, THINK FOR ONCE. ![]() |
Posted by: T9ksy Its inconsequential what you care about in this context but you (and i both) know that the bolded portion of your post will never materialise.Like I said before, I DON'T CARE. In my book, only weak folks are afraid of this law. If you believe you are strong enough to maintain whatever you want, then, why raise irrelevant "issues"? This law will help Nigeria really try to become one nation. I had wanted to secede because I believed that those who fought against my fathers in Biafra is not serious about nation building; did not know what they were fighting for. I'm really happy about this because truth is finally coming out in Nigeria. ![]() |
^^ I just read that you are "desola" the male masquerading as a female. Again what is your REAL username here? Coward. |
Posted by: T9ksy Of course, its a ph.ocking brilliant proposition!!Look, the way I see this, even this Sharia thing in northern states happened because we did not have this law in place. Imagine if there is a credible political opposition from non-muslims in those states, do you think they could still pass that Sharia law? Even if they did, the opposition will keep chewing it off piece by piece until it is dismantled. ![]() This law will moderate Nigeria and remove all types of extremism. Think for once! ![]() |
Posted by: T9ksy Do you truly believe an igbo man will ever be governor of a sharia state like zamfara or kadunna?I hate replying question with another question but I would do so here. Do you think I care whether aboki became the governor of Anambra state, or whether Igbo man became the governor of Sokoto state? Mehn I need LIGHT, WATER, ROADS, HEALTHCARE, FOOD. ![]() I don't care who provides them. |
Becomerich or alj harem, This law will pass because aboki is not afraid to settle outside the north, same with middle belt folks and SE and some parts of SS. Only weak folks are afraid, and they know themselves. THIS LAW MUST PASS. ![]() |
Posted by: kofoshi Finally, Yorubas are waking up and our youths are saying "enough is enough".“As long as people believe in absurdities, they will continue to commit atrocities.” -Voltaire My friend, what is your REAL username here? You coward! You don't even have the guts to use your original username. ![]() In any case, be careful what you wish for. If the law passes, (which I'm sure it will since reasonable folks are tired of a fake nation), then I say BRING IT ON. ![]() |
Posted by: okada_man ^Well, me I'm still from Anambra state. Nna akurum kom kom na Anambra ! Notin mega! ![]() |
The point of this thread though is that no one knows what a "Nigerian" would be until this law passes and is implemented. We have been wasting one another's time for the past 50something odd years without it. I say we go for it boldly. ![]() |
Posted by: Ileke-IdI If that's how you roll, then you shouldnt mention any swag again, pertaining to Nigerian men. Mike is worse than Desmond Eliot. Nollywood ragamuffinsAnyway, you get my drift. Mike is the typical "in your face" kinda Okoro. Love him for it! ![]() |
Posted by: Ileke-IdI ROTFLMAO!!! What swag?Well, you know how we roll. ![]() Check out Mike Ezuruonye of Nollywood. If you have seen him, you have seen it! ![]() |
