FL Gators:How can any sane person sleep while a dangerous snake is hiding somewhere in the house? Doesn't make sense wouldn't you say? |
olafolarin:If the above is true, then I stand corrected. I would wait for it to be corroborated by an unbiased party though. I would also research this issue myself. |
^^ I'm still waiting for the answer to my question: What did Awolowo do for ALL Nigerians that cost Yoruba anything? If the answer is none (which it is), how can anyone call him a national leader? |
Can someone please enlighten me more on this Awo free education. Was it for all Nigerians living in western Nigeria, or was it only for westerners? If it was for ALL Nigerians, why didn't all Easterners travel enmasse to the West to grab that free education? Just wondering. . . As far as I know, Awo never did anything for Nigerians outside of western Nigeria. |
I don't normally comment on Yoruba or other people's tribal champions, but Awolowo is a different case because his This man sowed an evil seed that is still destroying southern Nigeria. I feel insulted when anyone says he did something for Nigeria, and I ask WHAT exactly? What did he do for Nigeria that was not a by-product of his schemes to give his Yoruba tribe an unearned advantage over others? Did he ever play fair politics? What were his antecedents? What can a non-Yoruba credit him with? I know a non-Igbo can credit Azikiwe with founding a united Nigeria by sacrificing his peoples interests. What Yoruba interest did Awolowo ever sacrifice for Nigeria? ![]() Name just ONE! Tribal champion? Yes! National leader? HELL NO! ![]() |
Beaf:Some of the criticisms of Jonathan is unfair. I don't need the guy to deliver in four months; he has already made some moves. Igbo people say that "you know a chick that will develop into a male even in infancy". When Jonathan set up the power committee made up of experts, I knew he was headed in the right direction. Also when he decided to fund science institutes like the Project Development Agency(PRODA), and the Science Equipment Development Institute (SEDI) both in Enugu, I felt a sense that this president knows what should be the priorities of a country like Nigeria. For many years, both institutes were ignored by successive Nigerian presidents, even after SEDI had developed an automobile engine from completely local design and technology. This president knows where the nations wealth is, and is willing to invest and pay attention to it. For once we have a real graduate in office! |
sjeezy8:Actually he is the best. Afterall, how do we know that a "Fashola" would be better than him? He is already beginning to demonstrate strong leadership through his appointments. The VP pick was straight from the textbook of advanced politics and his power sector maneuverings are admirable; at least he is not busy throwing money at the problem (and indirectly feeding his cronies) like OBJ. He is genuinely tackling the power problem. If his INEC pick checks out, he scores another big one which OBJ failed to score. The guy is restoring all the confidence that OBJ and his gang of thieves destroyed. He answers "sir" to OBJ but cleverly makes his moves. I admire the guy. |
sjeezy8:No southerner has more support in the north than northerners like Buhari, Babangida and Atiku. Also those northerners have more southern supporters than southerners have northern supporters. Stop kidding yourself. The key to Nigeria's presidency remains block votes from populated areas. And we know the populated areas of Nigeria. |
sjeezy8:Calm down ol boy. Yoruba no go rule naija again for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooog time. ![]() Never mind all these Fashola talks. On the one hand you are calling Jonathan an idiot; on the other hand you want him to rule. Which should I believe? I believe you want a Yoruba guy there even next year. Selfish tribalist.Make up your mind quickly, though your feelings are irrelevant. You have a long wait. |
sjeezy8:You don't seem to realize that the west will not smell power again for a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time in Nigeria. Keep dreaming. The politics of Nigeria is becoming interesting. |
Beaf:I really would like to believe the bolded, but I think that Jonathan can help clarify things. That guy has achieved more for Nigeria within few months in office than the years of Yar adua (and even OBJ). So, it is very easy to support him. I remember very well during Obasanjo's failed constitutional conference when the debate about zoning was raging. The north insisted it must be on the basis of north and south, while the south east and south south canvassed for a geopolitical arrangement for zoning. The north being in power (never believe that Yoruba ruled through Obasanjo, they didn't ) had their way and even Obasanjo could not change it which is why he picked Yar adua after his 8 year tenure. So, when elements in the north argue that Obasanjo deliberately picked Yar adua in order to expeditiously return power to the south, they seem to have a case.I really think that Jonathan's presidency presents us with a rare opportunity -when none of the major tribes are in power- to address things like zoning once and for all. Of course it must not stop at zoning, it must also address things like quota system and federal character. Cherry picking will not work this time. So I say Jonathan should take on ALL these issues head-on. Only after then can anyone talk of a sensible resolution. |
^^^ There is no doubt that the Igbo makes a different type of impact on anything they are involved in. |
HE country may find an economic diversification window through potato production, as the crop farmers had already raised their turnover bar to $500 million (N75 billion), under an enhanced productivity scheme. Already, the Potato Farmers Association of Nigeria (POFAN), in its bid to meet the target, has unveiled a multiplication centre at Dogo Fili local government area of Nasarawa State, to complement the facility at Jikwoyi area of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The potato farmers, who, in their bid to exploit potato’s potentials for economic empowerment in the country, had set a yearly target of $500 million to be realised through the exportation of the crop in the country. The President of the association, Mr. Dan Okafor, who spoke at the unveiling of the multiplication centre recently, disclosed that the farm, which is over 30 hectares of land, would be used to cultivate potato all round the year, as it has complete irrigation facilities. He further disclosed that the University of Abuja has collaborated with the association in taking up the responsibilities of training the potato farmers on the modern techniques of potato production, processing and soil fertility maintenance, for the continuous production of potato throughout the year. He also said that the university has taken upon itself to sensitise the farmers about climate change, which would help them know how to take precautions and adjust to the changing weather conditions. He pointed out that the centre was established to meet the increasing demand for improved potato varieties by potato farmers in the North Central Zone of Nigeria. The centre, he said, would be managed by members of the Goshen Cooperative Society, an association of potato farmers in the Dogo Fili local government area He stated that POFAN has projected to establish farms in all the 774 local government areas in Nigeria, pointing out that the association had its first multiplication centre established in Kogi State with more than 20 hectares of land, expected to produce over 560 tonnes of sweet potato tuber every year. He however appealed to the governments, companies and financial institutions to support the projects, noting that the association is presently having financial constraints, as most of the achievements recorded so far in the potato programme were singularly borne by the association. The POFAN Nasarawa State chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Massage, in his address, observed that Nigeria ranks number two in the world in potato production, but the government at all level, should partner with the initiative of the association, which would move the country from position two to the first in potato farming in the world. He further appealed to the Governor of Nasarawa State, Governor Aliyu Doma, to help support the association, by providing loans, so as to boost the production of potatoes both for human consumption in the country and exportation to other countries of the world for utilization, food security and economy empowerment, to help meet the MDGs for agriculture. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/ |
Frankly, this is one of those issues that define a people and their character. As the saying goes, "the true test of character is not what one does in convenient times, but rather what he/she does in times of difficulty." It is far more convenient for Ndigbo to throw their weight (whatever it is worth) behind Jonathan next year, afterall, this is politics. But, even politics have conventions, which is part of why Ndigbo keep having problems in Nigeria. What is so hard about abiding by a simple convention (a gentleman's agreement)? Why do we always risk being the scapegoat for trying to do the right thing? There is a good chance that Ndigbo may decide to back Jonathan, and he may win in that scenario, but at what cost? It is easy to argue that Nigeria is an immoral nation where words don't mean much, but what right do we have to complain when we get bad leadership? Are immoral people entitled to honest leadership? Of course not! Before now, I would have insisted that Jonathan contests, but please notice that I can only support him when he has reassured the injured parties -in this case the northerners- that he means well. The cost of treachery is steep! Treachery destroyed the East -West (Igbo-Yoruba) political synergy for ever. My position: I would only support Jonathan if he fairly convinces the PDP (not through arm twisting like he did with Ogbulafor) to drop the zoning convention for ever. In that case, we southerners must never complain in the future if a northerner corners power for a prolonged and inordinate tenure. He who goes to equity must go with clean hands. Let us carefully consider this challenge. Summary, I would only support him if he fairly convinces stakeholders in PDP to drop the PDP zoning convention. |
@ FL Gators Your respect token with me just increased MASSIVELY. These young confused girls just don't get it. ![]() It's like they are still wondering why marriages these days don't last more than 5 years on average, while the so-called old fashioned ones last a lifetime with huge strides made: children in safe homes, steady and secure wealth, higher quality of life both material and spiritual. Gators, all your sins with me are forgiven. ![]() |

SEFAGO:What is sexier than secession from a land where nothing works? Anyway, I'm always open to idea that works. Just give me ONE thing that works in Nigeria and I would hang unto that until you come up with another. Even hope has limits. |
SEFAGO:Actually it is good. What would you do with 50 million "leaders"? Even a single idiot leader is better that 50 million "Solomons", wouldn't you say? At least you'd have a sense of identity and direction. |
It also doesn’t help when they cut proven leaders like the great Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and many others all in the name of politics. How many Northerners are sticking knives, pins and arrow into Abacha and Babangida? Both men are not even in the same class as the Ikemba Nnewi -- one of the rarest of all men -- yet, some Igbo take pride in dressing him down! This is really the crux of the Igbo downfall in Nigeria, when we keep treating our leaders like dirt, we can never survive or make giant strides that way! We are still searching for leaders, when God has already given us our leaders. All we need to do is follow. When we realize that no leader is perfect, and that it is only an extremely lucky people that get the likes of the great Ikemba as leaders, only then could we start to see the light. The real truth is that only the Igbo have a tested leadership really, because nothing tests a people's leadership than war and defeat. Love him or hate him, Ikemba remains the ONLY Igbo leader. |
Echidime:My friend what did you mean by the bolded words? I don't want to abuse you, but watch your choice of words. If you are speaking for yourself and your family "as an ibo man" then make it abundantly clear. Don't make a silly statement that even a non-Igbo will not make. ![]() |

Someone should advise Lagerback to add Ike Uche to that list. The boy did more for Nigeria during the qualifiers and he deserves to go. He is also a big state actor. Include him in the match against Argentina and watch him explode. He has a sense of mission. I don't care whom he removes from the list. Ike Uche belongs in the Eagles attack. |
sjeezy8:Truth is that I believe that the PDP zoning arrangement will stop Jonathan. It should, unless he changes party. So, to break it down for you; if Jonathan gets the PDP to drop or amend their zoning arrangement, then he is home and dry, and gets my vote obviously. If he decamps to a different party, he still gets my vote, provided he commits to those things I listed earlier. Bottomline is that if he does the right things, I would vote for him. Ojukwu made his statements mainly based on PDP zoning arrangement. Politics is a fluid game. No hard feelings. To call me an IBB boy is naive and glib. |
sjeezy8:Maybe you didn't read where I said "functional international airport". . My position is that we should support whoever can win, and deliver on a promise. If none of them can win or deliver on a promise to us, we should not vote for them, heck we can even skip on voting for a president. If both GJ and IBB can deliver, then we go for GJ for obvious reasons. ![]() |
I argued this point once. It makes every sense and I don't see how Ndigbo loses provided we extract concessions from GJ first, and those concessions aren't even much: functional international airport, fixed federal roads, bridge and second bridge at Onitsha, remove quota system and federal character, expand Calabar and Port harcourt ports (these should interest south south too), state police (if possible). He doesn't have to achieve all of these, but at least he can achieve most if he wants. Let's support him if we get those commitments from him first. |
Dede1:Bro Dede1, you and I know that the bolded part is true, but good luck with convincing lazy Nigerians about that! For them, it all begins and ends in oil. I hereby state without equivocation that our priciest assets in Igboland is OUR VOTES. But, these lying revisionists will like the world to think otherwise. I know for sure that even with current resources, if we are allowed to choose our leaders, we can transform our land faster than other parts of Nigeria. So, the strategy is to deny us the right to choose our leaders, but that is gradually ending. It will end soon or else we will force them! We need at least the Peter Obi types in all Igbo states. The guy may not be pulling down heavens, but he is a typical Igbo man with deep seated Igbo values, and that is why he is not buying the Nigerian brigand culture of eat and quench! We will get more of his type whether Nigeria likes it or not! Only then can we start judging things. ![]() |
FACE:LOL! I gave up on the kobojunkie of a character when I learned of his/her addiction to lies. So, I started to ignore his/her lying posts. Subsequently, I changed his/her name to Lie-junkie ![]() |
