Personally, the diesel is a very big relief. I drive an 04 BMW 530D I6 Diesel engine. The simplicity of the system, NO SPARK PLUGS, the electronics is MINIMAL (you don't open up the bonnet and almost go blind with sensors - just a few of them), fuel consumption is amazing (I average about 38MPG)

The psychological feeling you get is that you are in your living room and there is a diesel generator powering the AC and the sound system - Its a miracle.

But Parts, Well, you don't change them everyday. Also the diesel engines are NOT particular to a brand; the same engine components, e.g fuel pump and booster pre-supply fuel pump I use in my BMW is the same you will need for an Opel Omega diesel (do you believe that?), the same you will see in a Rover diesel.

And with the current fuel situation, you simply park by the fuel station and the extend the hose to your tank and that's it - no queues.

I think you should get a diesel as one of your vehicles - its a very good investment.

If you are getting them at the same price then you need to tell us about their conditions - how is the Toyota? - Is it Toks or used, what about the Skoda? - Is it Toks or used?

These details will help people advise you appropriately.

Its a Mercedes. You have to be very watchful so your mechanic does not make you spend so much on parts replacements. You should concentrate on checking first before buying.

One quick check here; when the car is in Park position and you step on the accelerator to rev. the car, does it misfire? (while in Park and stationary)

If it misfires - then

1. Check your idle control sensor (valve),
2. Check your air-intake sensor (Its the circuit thing on the air intake - big hose) - and very importantly, the air filter.
3. Dont let them talk you into changing any injector manifold - have them clean it thoroughly.

If you sort out the misfiring while the car is in Park and stationary, then you can test it while moving to see IF it shifts smoothly.

Please let us know how this works out; most importantly IF it misfires in Park.

I am being very sincere here and I remember it very clearly, there was no tracking device, plus I had to get them a rewire living close by.

My take was the Alternator and sensor - The DANA mechanic they called asked them to check the sensor and he described it was close to the alternator - My rewire had to remove the air-flow assembly and some other things tin order to reach the sensor - All those parts were labelled China.

I do not own one (I would not anyways). But with that experience from a 2009 vehicle with all the plastic covers still intact - I would not advice anyone to buy it. Especially when an average mechanic on the road doesnt know anything about it.

I would still advise the poster to go for a low mileage Tokumbo Honda or Rav4

It will be hard to get the parts at Owode Onirin or Ladipo - And I can assure you it will come to it someday.

The Briscoe thing is that you should ask yourself IF they will for instance have the fuel pump of your FORD in stock like today for instance. I will advise that you do some very practical research before buying;

Get their number for instance - call them and ask for just very common things you might have to look into; Fuel pump, headlamps and Gear (Im not a pessimist - Im being very practical with you).

You can also try and go to Ladipo and ask for the parts of your vehicle - Just these things. Please bear in mind that the prices of parts is not necessarily determined by the car its to be used on BUT by the scarcity of that spare part.

Please be wise with your decision; A car you will park for 3 months because of a brake pad or disc is not a very smart decision IF its your main/only ride.

Except you are stuck with some kind of financing/mortgage that specifies you MUST buy a Kia Rio for over 2M, I will suggest you use that same budget to get yourself a very practical and useful ride.

You should go for something like a very low mileage 06/07/08 Honda Accord or an 05/06/07 Rav4.

We had a visitor once that came in one of those Kia things in December; it was actually a 2009 model with the rubber covers and all still on. Going back, the car refused to start, we tried everything, it just wouldn't start. We then called a rewire to see what he would do (It happened on a Sunday and the DANA people were not at work), the guy opened the bonnet and most of the parts he was looking at were all labeled "Made in China". The car had to stay for the night for the Dana tech people.

That thing is crap.

Its easy.

Just wait till your tank is empty - or drain it (A mechanic can help with that). - then get fresh water (Pure water will be very okay), add some salt (like 2 spoonfuls - for purification), pour it into your fuel tank until its filled up. Start it and let it run for about 20 seconds, switch it off and on again - Now you can drive away.

If you buy this idea above or it remotely had you going then you should be in police net. So you really think all those filling stations you see are there to sell groundnuts right?

It would be a great idea though - more like a great dream.

Are you getting the two at the same price?

The thing about the Camry is that its a very basic vehicle (A shell basically) by default - I mean for instance, you would expect a standard 2010 Camry to at least come with Navigation. Its a taxi by standard.

On the other hand, the Toyota Avalon is simply a Lexus by standards, comfort, luxury and sophistication.

I personally think you should go for the Avalon, it will give you your money's worth. That I can guarantee you.

In terms of maintenance - A camry owner will probably visit the mechanic 10 times before you do once. Most minor things that will take the Camry owner to the parts store/mechanic will be reinforced in the Avalon and will last longer.

And you are sure to find the Toyota parts everywhere, so enjoy the Avalon.

Thank you for your post. This is probably the first actual user review of this brand. If I may ask,

i. what year/model did you own?
ii. where the error/problem alert lights on the dash helpful in anyway before a break-down
iii. where were you having the vehicle fixed (IF In Lagos) - at times the technical people can mess up one's vehicle

The thing is that the stress a car gives is more than the cost of repairs. It can be a nightmare. And I also found out that in most cases when you have a problem; you mechanic is as confused as you are BUT will not let you know - and of course they can experiment because you brought the car to them.

Its good to learn about one's vehicle - In fact one is forced to learn - except you are ready to have them mess up your vehicle for you and then they make you sell it to them for peanuts. They can be very wicked.

After typing in the appropriate subject AND detailed description and contact details in the body (The big white box); you then click the "Browse" button - which is at the end of the long white box with "ATTACH" at the extreme left.

Clicking the "Browse button should automatically open your default windows file manager - then you navigate to where the picture you would like to use it at - then you click OK or OPEN - that should be it.

If the file (the picture) is bigger than the maximum limit (200kn - I believe) - you will have an error message, if not, then your picture should appear, you can select and add more pictures by clicking on the underlined "more attachment" right next to the "Browse" button.

Just make sure they give you the exact one for your model.

If your Rewire/Mechanic has done all those things and you are still having the issue then its the brainbox.

If you cant get anyone you are sure will reset or repair it for you then have them remove it, and take it to the parts marker - Ladipo preferred - let them give you the exact model of your vehicle. That should sort it out.

It will be cheaper IF you can get someone to fix the brainbox though.

Sounding so frustrated pal, I understand, that your niSSan school bus guzzles fuel like a hog, and you have to queue to fill up for the day - don't spend too much time so it doesn't blow the gasket.

Relax, its just about the wheels, nothing personal. We know you are a "big" man to buy your niSSan pathfinder for 4.5M - I see your boy emeshot has one for 3M or something. You could have bought a camel OR a horse instead you know? Anyways we still have little room for convertees in our Range Rover/Benz/BMW world - its just the big boys click - don't fight it.

Thanks for your comment Bre, actually there are some Japanese products that are very outstanding - take the Toyota for instance, very durable, fuel efficient and long lasting - I'm specific about their SUVs though - they are superb. My problem with them is that no matter how expensive or fine, they end up as official rides - it doesn't guarranty exclusivity - except the Sequia and Highlander.

The Nissan is actually a sad story, all the firms I know that started out with Nissan products as official cars/vehicles ended up running to Honda OR good ol Toyota. The new models are a little confusing - the xterra looks so much like the pathfinder - and the 56 looks like a blown up pathfinder with a dent on the front half.

I love the EUs better - diesel preferred though

I see some firms are atting the BMWs for official cars too - they are feeling the vibes and are trying to up their outlook.

Strutmasters confirms they have not received any complains from their users on the effect of the suspension lights - on or off once conversion is done. Although height sensor module remains intact.

Thank you for your last response. As stated earlier; its a forum for views on the Range Rover (Good or bad reviews and views) from users, dealers and interested persons.

Its not really about what I want to buy BUT to get to know what its like coping with these new models especially with the Air "ride" which turns out to be a plague.

My consideration for an 06/07 is partly because the technical modifications between 05 and 10 is basically accessories which won't total over $3000 and that won't justify a 6M difference to me personally. Also one has better things to do right now than doing a budget of 13M for a 2010 vehicle (maybe when one starts with an earlier model one will then do a trade in after a few years for a brand new one).

The problem with the vehicle from what I have found out affects from the 99 model till date AND from the video on Strutmasters' website its the same manufacturer that makes those air shocks for Navigators - which from what a poster said had been discontinued from use since 07.

But its nice to know that your 09 has been trouble free since purchase. There is an 09 here that tells the owner it won't go further than 3Miles due to the air shocks caused balance problems.

For me, buying the diesel 07 and immediately changing the struts will be a good move, and the only other option in my view competing with the Range Rover will be the G500.

I started the thread to get info on my brand - Range Rover - from current users and folks with stuff to say about it, so for me, its something I need to monitor and learn from.

From what I've been reading from you - you have nothing to say about the brand or any model.

I do understand your issues and recommend stand by what you want, see a shrink and get a life and some self esteem.

But generally speaking; I appreciate your time. Afterall we are here to learn.

Your level of thinking shows that because you sit behind a computer and type things about someone means you are "bashing"? That person? It only shows the intimacy issues and inferiority complex you have lodged somewhere in your small world.

Its your views about the car I need, not you - I don't even know you or if you have a pathfinder 07 or 05; if its mortgage or freehold, if you paid cash or its one of those guys still running from Repo people. You don't even know me. BUT what counts is your views about the Range Rover which I do not have BUT want to buy AND did not know there was a solution for the air shocks problem.

I don't really care if you own a yatch, I want the Range Rover, I like some other brands - mostly European BUT hate the Nissan. Its a loser brand.

Actually I have personally seen sensible comments from users and non users of the Range Rover.

This thread is for comments and views on the Range Rover models. Its not about how much you have before you can own one. I personally set it up for insight into the fault that discourages me from buying one and thanks to Jaybee - intending and current users of the brand do not need to be afraid of the stress from Air Shocks - Strutmasters have provided the solution.

I have a Nissan but do not like the brand as much as to buy ANY of its models for anything over 2M - for me its a loser brand, the infiniti dimension even makes it worse - its prone to overheating and its a rewire's delight. It has poor body reinforcement. The 07 Pathfinder is a miniature school bus in my opinion and they have very low re-sale values.

I can talk about the cars and about what I know about them - that has nothing to do with their financial status.

Anyways, freshmoney could have bought the classy Range Rover with his 4.5M instead of that school bus he bought.

I will buy the Diesel 2007 Range Rover. Its ideal, rust free and high MPG. With Strutmaster's conversion kit, its a MUST HAVE.

Folks with views contrary to this are free to knock the car with their reasons, so we can educate ourselves better.

I really don't know. I've gone through her posts and there is just nothing it has to do with the topic of this thread.

This is a thread for information on an auto brand - many expressed like, many dislikes for the Range Rover. Someone gave a link to a reliable solution for the Air shocks problem.

If anyone wants closure or popularity, the person should release an album or something,  But for this thread, its about the Range Rover and nothing else.

If one has a topic in mind; then one should start it under the appropriate section.

This topic is about likes and dislikes for the Range Rover - I will defend it because I like it (So bring it on with any other thing you like and try knocking my Range Rover) - and its better now that Strutmasters.com has given a solution for the Airshocks (Thanks to Jaybee)
