That is the problem I'm trying to understand;

It was discontinued on the Navigator from 07 BUT Land Rover still keeps it on their models till date. I saw a Range Rover in VI the other day with the back side down flat.

The problem is not having those issues - its getting them fixed.

Its a shame because the rides are so well designed with the driver's comfort in mind (way better looking than the Toyotas) BUT those shocks are my concern.

For me, I don't think its a good investment buying a 5M vehicle and each time you are driving, its you thinking "whats next ??". Maybe they improved those shocks on later models?

From your description now, its not just a fuel consumption thing;

Let them check your fuel pump for pressure BEFORE making any changes

It will be strange for both Idle control and airflow meter sensor to go out at the same time (from your description). If its the airflow meter, it will die after a while when its started or when you want to rev up.

Its your brainbox OR your fuel pump - Have the fuel pump checked promptly for pressure.

Thanks Fhemmmy for sharing your view on the air shocks. there are two Navigators Ive seen for sale; One at Owode (all shocks dropped), the other one at Prince Motors or something, same thing.

Maybe they came in that way. Is there any kit for air to spring conversion?

But its good to know that your hommie's ride works well, its a view. People want to know about it as much as I do, and basically considering the budget and terrain of use, its important to get views from users, dealers and people like you.

my main concern is the terrain of use for the air shocks.

There is an 06 vogue parked close to where I live. The guy has both back shocks down and had paid someone 120k to fix for the past 3 months.

My question is IF its for rough roads too like where I live. I don't need a 5million naira egg. I'm sure someone else wants to know too

I would like to hear from past and current users of the Range Rover HSE/Vogue and Range Rover Sport (2004 till date) regarding maintenance issues especially with the Airmatic shocks.

Some dealers discourage intending buyers; their main point is the Air shocks - they claim it is not for rough roads. I was of the opinion that the Range Rover (voted the best SUV in the world) should at least be somewhat ideal for the Nigerian roads.

From what I understand its impossible to convert those air shocks to spring - except some very high level expert work (very close to factory installation).

Please educate me/us on these vehicles; are they really for our roads?, are they fragile?, what can you tell us about those shocks, they are a very big concern and a major discouraging factor. This may just be a scare from dealers who don't have them in stock.

If you have ANY experience with these vehicles - past user, current user, friend or relation of a user or a dealer who can tell us about their experience with people who have bought from them.

For me personally, the satisfaction I get from just watching the vehicle glide, is worth buying it for. Please let us know your views and experience.

Why not test the airflow meter with the simple ,method described above; you dont need a mechanic for that - Just remove the wire that goes to that airflow meter and then start and drive - then observe the difference;

IF the car is driving and starting the same way, then it means that the airflow meter is gone BUT if the car is behaving worse or doesnt even move, then you know that your airflow meter is working.

That is just a test; then you can now face your brainbox.

DO That test first before having them dismantle your injector or nuzzles - This is very important. Then share your views here so it can help us all

OK, now that changing the air filter did not change the situation but made it worse, that shows an imbalance in the air/fuel mixture.

The fuel injector/nuzzles servicing would have been my next option BUT your new observation points two ways: Brainbox is the first one. You should have them check and reset it OR if you stay where you cannot get a good mechanic to check it, then you should change it.
The second would be the Airflow meter, BUT you should confirm that by doing the following;

1. Disconnect the air-flow meter
2. Start the car and drive.

IF its the same, then you know the airflow meter is faulty IF NOT then reconnect the airflow meter and face your brainbox (or first service your injector/nuzzles)

The filter change is always recommended for improving gas mileage and smooth running.

Summary:
1. Test your airflow meter as described above
2. If its ok, then work on the other options

Just try out the options above, and let us know how it works out. These days in Nigeria, you just cant have a Mechanic work on your vehicle without knowing anything about it.

To solve this problem I need to explain something to you guys;

When your cars attain a high temperature; an improper earthing causes the heat to create statics that can affect a whole lot of things including the horn and in some cases, the sound systems.

First of all we need to look into you cars' heating situations;

1. You need to have your radiators drained, washed and filled with the right coolant/water mixtures.

2. Check the fan systems IF they are working as they should - and if the auxiliary fan (If you have) works as should.

3. The part of the battery head that connects to the body of the vehicle; please confirm that there is no disconnection or loose connection; have them reinforce it so it stays very well.

4. Make sure the horn has a proper earthing; ie. it is well connected to the body - or better let the earth part be connected to the negative on the battery.

This can happen to any brand or model; even Mercedes.

Summary:
Deal with the overheating by sorting out your radiator and fan, then take care of the earthing.

Please let us know.

Sounds like a loser's selection to me.

Get yourself a 4Runner with that budget and feel alive. Its more practical and doesn't make you a clone of everyone else.

So sorry for your troubles. Take it a step at a time;

1. Change the filter to a new one. Before you replace it, clean the housing and the complete air flow system.
2. That part of the throttle body where the big hose connects; let them clean it very well - they should gap-open that pot like thing and clean the inside very well.

If you think you have a bad airflow meter; disconnect it and start the car, then try driving it - that's when you will know that your air-flow meter is ok. Just do these things then let us know. The nuzzle/injector thing should come after you have observed.

We'll be watching to help.

Tell them to remove the air filter - Its a framed paper like thing. Mostly, people just take it to a Vulcanizer to blow - but in your case I will suggest you have it changed.

Also have them thoroughly clean the airflow system - all the hose and the part of it that attaches to the throttle body. Also have them clean the injector/nussles.

Summary:
Most important is the air filter (Change it), then clean the air system - from the air filter housing to the big hose, then to that part of the throttle body that the big hose connects to.

Test for a while and observe; then if you dont get an impressive mileage you can have them service the injector/nuzzle system.

We have a big opportunity here on nairaland - and we should let people of all class be able to sell and buy here.

There are cars that some of us would only dream to own (due to high price), BUT someone somewhere (A Big man) needs cash badly for one project or the other - the next thing you know is that you can buy it for 5M.

Another advantage we have is that when any of these con people pull pranks here, we can warn ourselves and actually use all the means we have to get them taken care of.

BUT One thing I have found out is that - of all online dealings - Nigeria is still the best. Try buying 5 items from eBay or most of those US online stores, then tell the story here. I don't even want to tell you my own experiences - its disheartening.

I have more confidence in a fellow Nigerian than a "white" man. Maybe with time, you will find out.

I'll rather buy a very low mileage used SUV whose brand new value is 12M - 14M eg an 07/08 Landcruiser, 07/08 Range Rover Sport, etc
