Your description of the problem depicts a couple of possibilities BUT we would walk through it a step at a time starting with checks and tests;


For having to pump accelerator each time to start after first start - shows your fuel pump fails OR you need a new inline crankshaft sensor.
1. Check your fuel pump for pressure (let a rewire do that for you) - the pressure should be able to push his index finger off the hose when the pump is active. At Ladipo market, you can get a replacement pump for 4k, make sure you test it for leakage at the edge where the plastic covering meets the metal body (they work those things at times)
2. Check the fuel filter or at least be sure you just serviced it recently.
3. Bleed/clean the injector - Get some injector cleaner and read instructions before emptying it into your tank.

Idle shaking has two dimensions
1. Airflow system needs thorough cleaning - the filter itself, the big hose to where it connects to the throttle body. If you clean all the airflow system and it still gives you the same symptoms, then check the Airflow meter/sensor (that connector/circuit on the big hose)
2. Your Camry's Brainbox (But I hope the steps above will sort your vehicle straight)

by Help I wasn't referring to financial, sorry you saw it that way. I respect your dedication to the Nissan world, and that's why I like teasing that.

Buying from Kotonou has caused serious financial stress for a lot of people, and this man should make himself more credible by stating the complete delivery cost as separate from the car price.

I have studied both vehicles - 07 BMW and 07 S Class, they are simply the same - only that the Benz consumes more fuel than the BM. Well, I think at a budget of 6M and above, you'll probably get the same ride with different badges.

Have you seen his 07 S Class? Its super - which would you choose - the S or the BM?

This is not a competition for the Range Rover.

Its a car I like, BUT from what I know, you pay this amount agreed and most Kotonou dealers hook your ride and start asking for something out of this world. That happened to a guy I know personally.

That is why for this car, and the poster's other cars, its better he states the price for delivery and what he calls clearing - so that there will be no stories.

Please put the car in Park position, Start the engine, turn the steering to the extreme left, then extreme right;

Do you hear a sound when you turn the steering?

Maybe its just me BUT there is something I'm noticing - Is it a Camry problem?, OR because people who own them drive them everyday, hence the problems with brainbox, sensors, fuel injectors, etc?

How much in addition to your advertised or agreed price will bring the vehicle to the buyer's door?

IF one buys this car from you; how much will the person add to the money for clearing and delivery to the person's door?

Let your friend have his Injector cleaned. He should also buy these Injector cleaners they sell out there at filling stations, he should follow the instructions and add to tank as should.

The LED system is purely a wiring thing with the sensors showing you (on the dash or gear side) the current gear engaged. On the other hand, the effectiveness of the transmission system itself is the gear's function.

For the lights - Just have your rewire check the sensors (I'm afraid for some models, they will need to drop the gear itself to get to those.)

For the movement - You should start by changing the ATF (drain and fill) then test, IF the bad transmission (movement) continues, then you can let the house know, and any other changes too (like smoking, misfires etc)

You need to have the few checks and tests done before we are sure its time for a new gear system.

I actually thought it was a 94 you posted earlier.

An Airflow sensor will not make the car not start, and for a 2002 Nissan Maxima; It will be very risky to buy an after-market "Brand new" of the airflow meter/sensor because they usually don't last. I will advise you buy a tokumbo original. Which you can get at any good parts market out there for less than 10k.

There are two things following your code reading that can affect you vehicle and put it in that status;

1. Fuel Pump and fuel supply.
2. The Crankshaft Sensor (not very sure , because there wont be power supply to the nuzzles even IF it was in perfect condition and the car cant start)

I think you should have your fuel pump and fuel supply checked first.

I'm happy for you that you were able to quickly make this post before getting heavily ripped off.

First of all, I know the Air-flow sensor of a 2000 Lexus costs about 4k at Ladipo market, and except I'm getting you wrong, I cant link 94 Nissan Maxima and 35k together.

I dont even want to go into the Camshaft postion sensor part of your story and the 25k chapter.

The way I see it; It will be helpful for you to let the house know what the original problem of your vehicle is - that led you to the Mechanic in the first place, then we can advise on the likely cause(s) and what you might need to do.

For your information;
Your 94 Nissan Maxima - the complete engine is about 50k (Tokumbo) and that freak wants you to spend like 60k? on just two very small items? [/b]You need to stop going to that person -[b] He is a criminal

Well said. People should make researches and ask questions (this is very vital - asking is always very very helpful) before investing a dime in anything. And one more thing, drive a car for at least 2KM on a test drive before paying IF you are set on buying that vehicle. Buying 2,000 fuel to test drive is cheaper than paying 2,000,000 for junk.

MacDealer, once it looks shiny outside, most accident Nigerian rebuilds are being sold for just 200k less the going price. The guy that staged the accident 09 Accord is asking for 2.8M, while I was there a guy came with an 04 Accord and offered him 1.5M plus his and he refused, his shop is in Owode, just drive through and you wont mistake it - Thy have about 3 of those "New" rides there. I have bought a ride from him in the past and I don't even want to go into it.

People should wait, review and post questions before paying so much. Its not worth it.

Thanks for this post. I know it will even benefit the dealers themselves to do this.

If you are a dealer and take this kind of steps, then people will only ask you for a brochure of what you have and make their choice. Keep it open and simple, it reduces stress for you and puts you in high demand.

IF anyone has bought any car that is not what the dealer said it was, I think its only fair that such a person should expose this sort of act, and people will find a way of taking necessary action OR at least prevent such criminals from doing that to trusting nairalanders - I personally believe things should be simple and straight.

Like I explained earlier in my post above; a standard re-build overseas in any good shop out there is by far better than most toks BUT ANY local re-build or conversion is rubbish. Also, its very unfair to sell an accident vehicle without telling the person (Imagine buying a ride worth over NGN2,000,000.00 - only to find out that the chassis is bent or has been worked on; the car will never work well, NEVER)

Dealers who will not tell you what you are buying are simply criminals, please expose them here, its not fair.

Considering the model and age of your vehicle, if you continue driving it in this condition, you will damage a chain of things in the vehicle.

I would advise you go the same road again BUT with a little more caution. I will advise you go to Ladipo market, get the gear for your make and model; IF confused, please ask them to remove the one that came with your vehicle, look at it very well, IF possible snap pictures, then buy WITH GUARANTY then look for mechanics around Ladipo or Owode Onirin to do the installation for you.

I am not saying your mechanic is not competent, BUT there are accessories that your mechanic will need and instead of going back to Ladipo to buy, he will improvise from the one he removed PLUS these mechanics around these markets see and do these things frequently and so hands down they are more experienced.

It depends on what you are looking for. From your post, you are particular about maintenance costs, not necessarily overall ruggedness and durability.

A good option for you would be the 96/97 Nissan pathfinder, it will still do the same site work for you and has a very good engine BUT I cannot guaranty the body. Based on your post, I think you should get the Pathfinder.

I dont think so; the car just needed a new gear and I'm sure the owner would have taken a very good chance to get it sorted.

I think we need to explain some things to ourselves here and not JUST make very harsh or extreme views and statements.

IF there is a vehicle involved in an accident say in the US for instance; I know of places - basically any good shop - will put it back together with factory parts and accessories, this will drive like new. I know of people who will buy brand new vehicles and take them in for customization (pimping) - If you see how these vehicles are being torn apart for the customization, you will understand that vehicles are simply a shell of parts and accessories. This gives me the confidence that accident or no accident, ONCE A CAR IS REPAIRED OR PUT TOGETHER IN A STANDARD AUTO WORKSHOP OUT THERE, ITS AS GOOD AS NEW.

On the other hand, there are some people in Nigeria that call themselves "Salvage Buyers" - you are better off buying ONLY parts from them NOT CARS. I have seen how they put together a 2009 Honda Accord that was involved in an accident. They did not change most of the affected parts, they simply straightened most of them - even the engine seats, they fabricated rubber bushings for it and worked on the radiator (these are very vital parts that should be changed)

They replaced the headlamps with brand new ones and some brand accessories. After doing all that, they now did some very serious body work to the front part and a baked paint job - So on the outside, it looks brand new BUT IF YOU BUY, after a week, you will have vibrations from the engine, leakage from radiator, front struts are gone already, etc

For me, a standard rebuild in a standard workshop (Overseas ONLY) guaranties a buyer of even a better ride than an outright second hand because you simply have new parts and accessories replaced. ANYTHING APART FROM THAT (LIKE A NIGERIAN REBUILD) IS RUBBISH. STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

Its not that bad in Nigeria my friend.

Anyways, back to the topic though - IF the poster can get a 1.4M to 1.5M, its a very fair deal considering that the current price for the toks. on nairaland.com is 2.4M asking

Considering the 15k Miles on the Corolla, IF its in good body condition and the engine is OK (let a mechanic inspect for you), then I think 1.5M is in order.

But its a good opportunity - exploit it but don't miss it. The new Yaris is way beyond your earlier budget.

That post was last year and the price should be cheaper now BUT for a Nigerian used (1 year used) it should run way lower than that - something in the reange of 1.4M - 1.5M (The condition is very important though)

I think you should check with Toyota dealers and ask how much a brand new Toyota Yaris would cost. There are links on nairaland advertising toks 2009 Yaris for about 1.8M asking.

If you find out how much a brand new Toyota Yaris costs and its within your initial budget for the Kia, I would suggest you buy it.

It appears a fuel line/injector issue. I am assuming you do not have any smoke issues, but even with that you will need to have them service and clean through your injector - the whole injector assembly.

Also (Based on a recent discovery on nairaland.com); check the fuel hose line and your fuel pump for pressure. Please do this and let us know.

We are talking about an engine without spark plugs - that alone makes my day - I don't have to be thinking if No.2 is firing or No. 4 is misfiring. Its big stress off my chest really.

Yes sir!, diesel cars are better in terms of fuel consumption (Even with diesel at 110/ltr and petrol at 85 or at times 75 per liter.)

From Ikorodu on a Saturday morning I did 7 Litres to VI and back to Ikorodu with a BMW (AC on) - Im not sure you can get that from even a Camry.
