Autos / Re: Autoreg: 419 Or What? by Onwan: 12:14pm On Jul 08, 2010 |
The OP simply has no idea what the Autoreg is. People are here shouting 419, we are all shouting "what is government doing?", NOW, there is a scheme that will BLOCK anyone registering a car without a proper transaction AND also BLOCK any dealer passing off a registerd car without proper acknowledgement and transaction proof and someone is here asking "419 or what?" |
Autos / Re: What Papers Do I Need To Drive My Car Down To Cotonou Through Seme Border by Onwan: 11:38am On Jul 08, 2010 |
@Elms You are taking it the wrong way; Its not like a customs official will send you the permit online, you have to go there in person - thats what I am saying AND by wasting time online, what I am refering to is the urgency you have pointed out in your post and your "still waiting" posts. There is no dealer that has such permits for up to 30 days, usually you park your car in Igolo and take a cab into town, so like I said, you can wait for as long as you want online OR simply drive to the Customs place and get something real. This is my point; maybe it will be clearer now. |
Autos / Re: GLEAMING NEW RANGE ROVER EVOQUE UNVEILED !!! by Onwan: 11:26am On Jul 08, 2010 |
@Bruv The whole concept was designed by some students and it won the design. According to the guys, they got the interior idea from a helicopter (especially the seats) - I just like the build of the exterior - Its designed to be rugged - Not even for just the materials BUT simple things like the ground clearance, the front and back angles referencing the road as a platform, accessibility to the engine and other parts for repairs and fixes from under the vehicle. Its a ride to own. Just wondering what the price tag on the Hummer and the Range Rover will be like. |
Autos / Re: What Papers Do I Need To Drive My Car Down To Cotonou Through Seme Border by Onwan: 11:18am On Jul 08, 2010 |
@OP Go to customs office in Ikeja and ask them, the other option is to drive to Idi-Iroko (border) - to get the permit you will need (usually specified in days) BUT its better you to the Ikeja Customs place and present your papers, assignment and requests - It gets easier that way than wasting time online. |

Nice, space-like interior too

Autos / Re: Autoreg: 419 Or What? by Onwan: 10:47am On Jul 08, 2010 |
money2ride: @OP You need to be well researched and literate before posting stuff that will make you sound very silly. For people who own vehicles; the Autoreg system collects information of the vehicle and even down to the original owners' picture into a central database, that safeguards people against a vehicle being registered to more than one person. With this database, all reports of ownership changing are duely updated and backed with proof of purchase. IF a vehicle has been parkedfor three years, the renewal fees for those years will be paid and the records updated (what we are talking about here is like N1,500 per year - when renewing after a few). You might want to do yourself a favour by walking into a bank or a road safety office and get some education on the subject before posting trash. And by the way, with the former "manual" method, you could register the same car in every local government in a state using different names with different plate numbers - Which IS the real 419 |
Autos / Re: Engine Oil by Onwan: 3:59pm On Jul 04, 2010 |
@OP 5W-30 has the best recommendation for all temperatures for your vehicle's model. |
Autos / Re: How Much Can I Buy This---> by Onwan: 3:45pm On Jul 04, 2010 |
Siena: Looks like OP is really considering going into the transport business. Anyways, the Bajaj (or Boxer) is about 95k right now and the Keke Napep is about 350k (I hear the new version is more expensive though). You can check nairaland for the VW transporter - you might specify if you want a Toks, New or registered; that way, dealers in the house can help you out. |
Properties / Re: To Let: 2 Bedrooms Flats (4 Units) In An Ikorodu Estate by Onwan: 12:38am On Jun 22, 2010 |
Its a very okay place and there are a few restrictions in the area for security reasons; with constant Police patrol too. Just call and have the inspection/interview arranged. I personally will be involved in knowing who the tenants are. |
Autos / Re: Car Wont Rev Pass 5000rpm by Onwan: 11:56pm On Jun 21, 2010 |
Another thing is that those things are marked out in multiples and the OP might not actually interprete the exacts BUT we get the picture. |
Car Talk / Re: Sienna: Kunle: Gurus: Catalytic Converters: Beneficial To Remove? by Onwan: 9:22pm On Jun 21, 2010 |
@Thonerow Actually, he might have traced the leakage to be from the steering box and he also has a point with the gear sitting (considering it happens when you hit a bump or run into a ditch). I reason with him quite well. |

Autos / Re: Car Wont Rev Pass 5000rpm by Onwan: 8:00pm On Jun 21, 2010 |
There are a bunch of things that can cause this BUT I think you need to start from the easiest part - 1. Checking the spark plugs and the plug wires 2. Mass Airflow system/filter/sensor (The big black hose connecting a box to the engine top) 3. Fuel system check is recommended - pump, hoses/pipes and filter 4. Throttle body cleanup 5. Just in case these dont solve it, then you might need to advance to the idle control sensor and throttle position sensor. You could hook it up to a diag. machine after steps 1 and 2 though. EEL is there to help by coming to your location (Thats IF you dont have one) |
Car Talk / Re: Sienna: Kunle: Gurus: Catalytic Converters: Beneficial To Remove? by Onwan: 7:33pm On Jun 21, 2010 |
@Oblo Just one more thing - Try checking through your exhaust system thoroughly for leakages (holes); pipes, pot, especially the gaskets at the joints, they actually have a direct effect on the fuel consumption. Cheers |
Properties / Re: To Let: 2 Bedrooms Flats (4 Units) In An Ikorodu Estate by Onwan: 2:49pm On Jun 21, 2010 |
Its the correct number, you must have dialed it wrong. By the way, I do not have to be the one to pick. Whoever picks it will arrange inspection and interview with you. |

EEL: Understood. |
Autos / Re: Automobile Equipments by Onwan: 9:18pm On Jun 20, 2010 |
Siena: Its really a very big shame. At times I wonder what happened to simplicity in business. This forum and the internet gives people the opportunity to reach far and wide for value, and anyone can use the opportunity to provide services such as this automobile equipment, BUT for some reason, some people have either NO business sense OR cant just keep it straight. First of all, "ESEL" is the auto-diag guy (which simply is a good service, as it apprears he has a diag machine - very cool and ok - I commend the initiative), secondly he asked me for my email address on a thread days back - which I gave him, then another username appeared on my yahoo chat "EEL", NOW, Im talking to "CARBUY" about an Autoboss and "EEL" sends me an email with a quote with a price that is a fair price for an original brand new. Now, we are looking at a guy who has started an auto-diagnostics business and probably has provided services to people here on nairaland, so why bring up two more IDs for the same line of business. Why I wont call him a fraud is that all those posts and threads have the phone number 08055673680 running through them - which is his contact for his already existing diagnosis service - BUT he needs to learn to keep things straight. EEL/ESEL/CARBUY, please narrow things out and get it straight, its easier that way, than make things look very funny. |
Autos / Re: Automobile Equipments by Onwan: 8:01pm On Jun 20, 2010 |
EEL: Except Im missing out something here; The OP is "CARBUY", then "EEL" tells me to check my email, and I actually got an email from someone else. Now its looking like CARBUY = EEL = ESEL ? wtf Its easier for me to find one on ebay and have someone like Kunle-A source and send down to me, than waste my time first of all trying to figure out who is who, and then start bargaining with who?, and then paying to who? Why the multiple usernames on the same thread? You know, it gets easier when you play straight THAN make things look very funny. I cant do any business with you. |
Autos / Re: PT Consult alleged to be Fraudulent by Onwan: 6:54pm On Jun 20, 2010 |
freshmoney: @Freshmoney IF you are buying locally, there is a guy I am sure will get you the lowest possible price of that high-end vehicle - Dantitiki. He is a hard working guy and when it comes to getting those kind of cars/trucks locally at a blow-away deal price, then he is your man. Family is doing very ok, thanks. Im sure you and yours are enjoying the naija breeze/rain . |
Autos / Re: PT Consult alleged to be Fraudulent by Onwan: 1:06pm On Jun 20, 2010 |
freshmoney: @Freshmoney You seem to be tied to Nissan/Infiniti vehicles - one thing about them though; you can take them for granted, especially the Pathfinder. The BMW X6 is not practical in my own view, the X5 is a better option. The 2010 FX is an amazing ride too - Its in a world of its own. Im doing very well, thanks. For the Cotonou price, I think you can beat it just a bit lower IF you are ready with cash and you meet those lebanese sellers themselves - Make sure you handle the negotiation yourself - Usually with a deposit of 2M (for that budget) they will know you are serious and ready to buy, at that point you can tell them you will pay 7Mill. Usually the 8Mill is "to discuss" - BUT even at 8Mill, its a very good deal. |
Car Talk / Re: Sienna: Kunle: Gurus: Catalytic Converters: Beneficial To Remove? by Onwan: 9:40pm On Jun 19, 2010 |
thonerow:From what you posted, there are two different problems you are having; the leakage from the power steering system (which could be a simple hose issueor a the pump) AND the gear problem (which from what Im seeing is a common problem with the Honda). I know someone who can look into your power steering problem and in the same workshop, they can get your gear looked into or serviced. |

Autos / Re: V6 Or V4. by Onwan: 7:01pm On Jun 19, 2010 |
ikuoma4rea: None of the above. Take a V8 and you will love the feel (Im not sure they have that for your Camry/model). BUT for your instance, the V6 was the right choice. 4 has always been below average in performance. |
Car Talk / Re: Sienna: Kunle: Gurus: Catalytic Converters: Beneficial To Remove? by Onwan: 6:57pm On Jun 19, 2010 |
oblo: I hear you sha. Just check for leaks and service the moto. But e be like say DIY dey catch you for body , There is something a guy advertised on nairaland.com for fuel saving, I read online and users actually talked about 25% - 27% improvement in gas mileage (even for a big guzzler like the Hummer H2). I think you should give it a go. |
Car Talk / Re: Sienna: Kunle: Gurus: Catalytic Converters: Beneficial To Remove? by Onwan: 2:57pm On Jun 19, 2010 |
Just joking, BUT really, your car is ok. |
Car Talk / Re: Sienna: Kunle: Gurus: Catalytic Converters: Beneficial To Remove? by Onwan: 1:54pm On Jun 19, 2010 |
oblo: @Oblo Your car is ok. I know you alway like doing all kinds of upgrades to it. With the kind of things you keep trying to do with this your German machine, its clear to me that the only time you will appreciate your car is when you damage it completely . People have very very serious problems like knocked out engines, bad fuel supply, vibration, etc - BUT you, your car runs and drives very well, you are either thinking of doing some injector "implant" or some catalytic "botox" on it. The truth is that Im not sure you can find a perfect car. |
Autos / Re: PT Consult alleged to be Fraudulent by Onwan: 1:33pm On Jun 19, 2010 |
texazzpete:@Texazzpete Im glad you are seeing my point in the whole thing (that does not mean you have to agree with my idea) - My own put-off was that at a point, it appeared as if one of the "victims" Rawe45 (who appeared as soon as beecrofty disappeared) felt the whole world was struggling to impress him by helping him (like I said, its my view) and I started thinking - This is a virtual transaction, all electronic (phone, email, etc), nothing physical, no agreement, no signing anywhere (which should at least have been witnesses by a Police officer OR someone worth the amount you are dropping). Then it ocurred to me that someone who would shell out close to 2M without anything physical, has/had not informed the authorities prior, might not need my help in tracking whatever became of the transaction, ALSO IF I was to do that kind of transaction ( without have anyone I can hold or smoke when its getting funny) then Im probably too big to think about it when its going badly. Even craigslist.org, autotrader, ebay, etc, they all have fraud alerts - meaning its all online, so you should get a substantial proof and reference of the existence of the party (ies) involved and of the goods/service in question. So the sellers are online (virtual, like the adverts) - the same way, the buyers are online (virtual); so until there is a physical meet, with assessments from both sides, nothing is real - and anything can happen. The same way I can pay a seller 100% of the cost and he vanishes IS the same way I can pay Kunle-A or Fhemmmy or Inspired or German007 40% of the cost and he brings the car in and I tell him Im broke, or that I must have the car and pay him as and when I can (which is very unfair too) An example, there was a BMW X5 on craigslist I wanted Kunle-A to help source and ship in; He straight told me there was someone I would go meet physically AT A BANK to sort out payments and stuff. That was OK for me (that might not be the same for someone else). freshmoney:@Freshmoney How's it been sir!, its been a while now; hope you've bought your Escalade. How's your Nissan school bus |

@Fhemmmy OK, Im sure you'll get one pretty quickly around the Government's Housing Estate |
Autos / Re: PT Consult alleged to be Fraudulent by Onwan: 9:42pm On Jun 18, 2010 |
Pennywise: Im sorry Pennywise, I was not referring to the thread you are talking about. I had made my own conclusions on the issue and from what I know, there will be thousands more dealers online (not only on nairaland or even in Nigeria) - some real, some not; Its just up to an intending buyer to learn and make the right evaluation and assessments IF they cannot go to a physical car lot like Berger and buy. |
