Brand_new:

@chanceman, you will agree with me that some auto dealer could jeorpardise the chances of a fellow who is trying to sell his car here. No pun intended coz i no longer deal in used or tokunbo cars. For example how do you explain a low milage car with no previou accident, parts replacement and all, i mean there was nothing said to have gone wrong with the car according to a NLanders report yet has a junk title, how do you explain that. So maybe you give vin reports here and dat may be why this makes no sense.

@OP
Personally, this expaination is very complicated and makes no sense to me. I see posts where people ask for help with VIN reports and others that have the ability to help will respond; people like Fhemmmy, Kunle-A and others - for me, its a simple and well valued help that they are giving to folks on nairaland.com free of charge.

In simple english sir, are you saying someone has given a doctored report?, IF YES, please give us a link to that thread/post, IF NO, just understand you are being unfair and IF your aim is to discredit info. and sales on nairaland.com so you can promote your website, then you have a very little and limited understanding of life.
Autos / Re: Most V.i.n Reports Are Doctored by Onwan: 9:56am On Jun 18, 2010
Most people that post VIN reports here are only helping others who dont have access to the facility. It baffles me now, how someone can come up with an accusation like this.

And carefully place another auto sales website in his signature line: http://www.naijacardeals.com/
Autos / Re: PT Consult alleged to be Fraudulent by Onwan: 9:54am On Jun 18, 2010
Its a very big shame.

Most of the posts and new threads with funny accusations is beginning to look like they have some kind of angles to them. Check this new thread for instance: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-464665.0.html

It looks more like the poster is simply trying to discredit nairaland or make it loose credibility and then advertise the website he carefully displayed in his signature line: http://www.naijacardeals.com/

Autos / Re: I Need Brain Box (ecu) For Mitsubishi Space Wagon 1996 Model by Onwan: 9:40pm On Jun 17, 2010
Sorry Pal, its a long stretch. What you need is someone in the market (Ladipo) who can run that errand for you. You will have to send that one to him and he gets a working one and send back both to you.

BUT for your distance to Lagos, I will strongly advice you get a brand new one from overseas OR at least a garranteed used one. I saw Inspired advertising parts sourcing/shipping (He could help), Kunle-A is a techie kind of dealer and can also help. Siena in one of his posts mentioned helping with parts too.

Its up to you.
Car Talk / Re: Toyota Malfunction Indicator Lamp by Onwan: 8:47pm On Jun 17, 2010
Thats a very nice one; very flexible and easy to use, has a wider range of error codes and definitions than the one I have. Price is very okay too. IF OP had this, he would have scanned it in 2 minutes.

Its a good buy for any car owner.

Please let me know IF you have an Autoboss with a very good deal as you have with this one. Its capability to handle calibrations - airmatics, default value presets is very key for my kind of vehicles.

I still have a professional grade unit for a give away price of N40k(trust me) with life data, and code definition

Is it Autoboss though? Kindly give the name and model.
Autos / Re: I Need A Toyota Camry 2007: My Target Is 2million! by Onwan: 7:39pm On Jun 17, 2010
With that cash at hand for that car, you will get a serious deal (possibly your budget) IF you drive round town yourself (Ive seen a couple of them on road sides with for sale signs on them) OR you can contact Banix or Midex one of those two should be able to get you a good deal on a registered.
Car Talk / Re: Toyota Malfunction Indicator Lamp by Onwan: 1:48pm On Jun 17, 2010
@ESEL

I appreciate your maturity and understanding. Car users should not be made to feel handicapped, BUT should be encouraged. Although some level of troubleshooting require advanced (and usually very expensive - Like Autoboss) diag. tools, thats why we have people like yourself in the business.

Actually if you look at my first post, you will see that it was that he should do a scan, and on time. BUT removing and washing or cleaning a fuel cap is one way to eliminate an O2 Sensor problem or an emission related issue (It could have been something else). I learnt this from people who had spent lots of dollars on diagnosis and sensors, only to find that a tight fuel cap or a clean fuel cap (or even a new one) would have saved them all that money.
Car Talk / Re: Toyota Malfunction Indicator Lamp by Onwan: 12:28pm On Jun 17, 2010
ESEL:

@ONWAN: Resetting the CEL light means to set something to zero (dictionary meaning) changing a reading to a different number. Here, it is applicable cos you want to change the indicator light to Zero. This mechanism uses a transducer and resetting is applicable here.

You have said your view and I respect that.

I am computer engineer and I know that the vehicle has a brain and thats the ECU, the Check Engine Light is simply an LED (a small bulb) with a plastic casing that has Check Engine written on it - that bulb only lights when the ECU detects a fault.

The ECU of that car however can be errased or reset using a diagnostic tool that has errase capability BUT NOT by just disconnecting the battery terminals for 5 minutes. So in effect the OP did not reset the ECU BUT solved the problem that caused the ECU to light up the Check Engine Indicator bulb/lamp - based on recommendations he got from Nairaland by experienced people.

The thing is, you need to understand he does not necessarily have to come to your shop to do the scan, and the funny part is that anyone who is educated enough to use a cell phone can use a diagnostic tool. The codes all have their interpretation in the Manual or the accompanying CD - those tools are about 35k for the average (detect-only) ones and that cost less than an average high end handset.

I personally will encourage car users who can invest 1M or above to buy a car to also invest about 10% to buy very good tools for troubleshooting. Im actually on the look-out for a used but well functioning Autoboss - it can actually calibrate airshocks on most vehicles and even set default values.
Car Talk / Re: Toyota Malfunction Indicator Lamp by Onwan: 11:48am On Jun 17, 2010
@Emytech
Im glad the fuel cap thing worked for you. What you also need to do is to always make sure its very clean and the inlet too, clean thoroughly to remove all dirts sticking on the rubber padding. Some people actually recommend changing the fuel cap after every 60k Miles.

Folks should pay attention to these whenever they have anything close to P0141, P0171, P0156, P0173 - It could be more than just these few codes though.

@ESEL
What the OP did was not "resetting the CEL" removing the battery OR not would have removed the Check Engine Light IF the malfunction is from an emmission related cause mostly from the fuel cap OR the fuel system hose/pipe.

By the way, let me correct you on one point; IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO "RESET THE CEL", the CEL is simply an indicator of the ECU status, AND you cannot reset the ECU of a Camry by merely disconnecting the battery terminals (The manual reset procedure is way more complicated than that)
Car Talk / Re: Toyota Malfunction Indicator Lamp by Onwan: 6:10pm On Jun 16, 2010
That could be a problem with the Check Engine LED or something wrong with the brainbox (ECU). But it was very nice he did a scan though.
Car Talk / Re: Toyota Malfunction Indicator Lamp by Onwan: 5:37pm On Jun 16, 2010
@Toba1909
Thats very interesting, BUT I know that IF it just gives a Check Engine Light and goes off by itself, something must have happened, maybe a mild reset from parking it for a while BUT what I found out is that the most common is the fuel tank cap.
Car Talk / Re: Toyota Malfunction Indicator Lamp by Onwan: 5:15pm On Jun 16, 2010
toba1909:

The check Engine light came up on my dash screen(99 Camry) some weeks ago but suddenly disappeared after a week or so without any intervention.
@Toba1909
Beleive me, there must have been something you did; you only did not know. Let me share a very shocking experience I had with my car last week; I had this check engine light on and my scan tool kept telling me "emission" - P0171, P0173, P0141, P0156 - They were all related to emission and the O2 sensor thing, at this I did some search on an owners' forum online I joined as soon as I got the car. It turns out that most of them had changed the O2 sensor (expensive plus repairs too) BUT the thing still kept on showing - someone then pointed out that IF the fuel cap is not properly tightened OR has dirt which could give room for some amount of air, it would trigger the Check Engine light.

What I did was to remove the fuel cap (the fuel tank cover), washed it with petrol, used a flat screw driver to scraped off the dirts that had accumulated on its edge, then I also washed and scraped the part of the fuel tank inlet where the fuel cap fits on.

I started the car and the Check engine light was still on, then I switched it off and waited for another 30 Minutes, then started the car again - Then the Check Engine Light was OFF

This shows that the O2 sensor fault code doesnt necessarily mean the O2 sensor is faulty, its mostly a symptom of an emission related malfunction such as a dirty fuel cap/inlet or a fuel cap not properly fitted.
Car Talk / Re: Toyota Malfunction Indicator Lamp by Onwan: 3:56pm On Jun 16, 2010
@Emytech
Check Engine Light can be triggered by a bunch of things; your best bet right now is to have it scanned OR you buy a scan tool yourself and get the codes/fault codes, THEN we can discuss the fault codes here.

It gets easier when you do it on time.
Car Talk / Re: Engine Vibrates When Tachometer Reading Is Low by Onwan: 10:29pm On Jun 15, 2010
zoogy2007:

What kind of engine does your camry have? If its an I4, then check that the engine 'sitting', has not gone bad. The Job of the engine sitting is to absorb some of the vibration which comes with an idling engine. Its usually located on top of the engine and below. The one on top looks like a figure 8 piece of metal with rubber fittings inside. Check that the rubber part has not sheared from the metallic part. Ask your mechanic to check the others which are located below the engine. I believe this will help you in solving your problem. Good luck

Well said. Thats another very key check point.
Autos / Re: Why Are Toyota Prices Rising by Onwan: 6:15pm On Jun 15, 2010
Fhemmmy:

That is not true at all oh, Chief.
Toyota, when they has the recall problems, they gave incentives, but not to slash price by 30% . . . But such increase in prices as mentioned by the poster is a little on the high side, but like i mentioned above, the cost of clearing has gone crazy, and the customs are out there to make early Xmas money.
But this phase too shall pass

@Fhemmmy
You might want to check this out: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/apr/05/toyota-sales-surge-in-march-2010

It might not have been a world-wide thing like I stated, BUT the price slash happened and helped in boosting their sales. I also have a friend in Ontario that bought a 2010 at a slashed price during the "Pedal" thing

Can someone pls shed more light on this

Again, Onwan, this is to you
what are the legislations or requirements to acquiring a customised vehicle plate number?
I am seeing a lot of them and i am kinda wondering, aside the fees, how does it operate!

@Emperoh
Just visit your nearest Road Safety office and ask for one; they need to do a search first to confirm availability of the tag, then you pay - I think its about 120k - 130k. Usually takes 2 weeks (or a few days if you know whats up cheesy)
Autos / Re: Why Are Toyota Prices Rising by Onwan: 11:43am On Jun 15, 2010
@Tybaba
You need to be clear IF you talking about the prices you are getting it Toks in Nigeria OR the factory pricing.

Any current or well researched person knows that there has not been any offical upward review in Toyota vehicle pricing, as a matter of fact, in some quarters there are reports of price slashes up to 30%.

You might want to check up on some stuff next time.

The truth now is that Tint permits are no longer issued at least for now, so everyone has the liberty to tint his.her car pending the time we know the latest development from the NPF. In the mean time, kindly get back to me at lashman_fappy @yahoo.com. I need a 06 bmw series 3. Thanks

Im not sure where that came from BUT there are some terrible zones I dont pray you get caught driving in tints without a permit; Ogba (That Wemco Road), Ojodu Berga (Right after Road safety), Allen - Alade Market, Allen/Opebi junction, Anywhere near Area F or GRA Ikeja, the fact is that by the time they are through with you, you will want to abandon your ride with them and step.
Autos / Re: What Is The Sense In "tint Permit" In A Very Hot And Humid Country? by Onwan: 7:08pm On Jun 14, 2010
@Eros
True

But most times, we make them what they are - IF you know how many magistrates and judges are waiting and would be happy to get those guys behind bars (and most importantly, out of those uniforms), you will be shocked.

I think in all, educated people should prep on their knowledge of their rights (NOT just in this case BUT in a lot of other things), that way you will understand that most people we think are our leaders are actually our servants.
Autos / Re: What Is The Sense In "tint Permit" In A Very Hot And Humid Country? by Onwan: 5:27pm On Jun 14, 2010
And this issue of Renewal, have you ever "renewed" a tint permit? That must be some kind of arrangement and fake because the original one does not require renewal. I know about renewing guns permit for just N1,0000 a year BUT NOT tint permit.

I guess different people have their "sources" of getting things done.
Autos / Re: What Is The Sense In "tint Permit" In A Very Hot And Humid Country? by Onwan: 5:08pm On Jun 14, 2010
@Kunle

The problem is that a lot of Nigerians do not know their rights; Light tints do not attract any illegality especially vehicles that come with the rear wind shield tinted to any level. I have an SUV with only the rear windshield and back sides tinted, the driver and passenger sides are free - a police man once stopped me once in it on Allen and asked me for my permit and I asked him IF he had any difficulties seeing me in the first place. I then explained to him that by law, my side has to be tinted for me to need a permit, also made him understand that I know that because I have the permit for my tinted vehicles.

He was suprised and told me to go. I think when people ask about their rights OR buy copies of the constitution (very cheap) and read, then they can have better communication with those rookies.
Autos / Re: What Is The Sense In "tint Permit" In A Very Hot And Humid Country? by Onwan: 12:36pm On Jun 14, 2010
@Kunle-A
I think the tinted permit thing is basically for security reasons; bandicts can get away with a whole lot of things in a vehicle with dark tints, I beleive this is the same overseas - I know I've been pulled over once on Silverside DE, for "Security Identification Purposes" - It was not for the rear tints though.

The tint also helps shield those terrible sun-rays so its worth having, especially when you know what the intense sun can do to your leather interior - especially that dash-top area (the complete assembly starts detatching from the wind-shield, same thing starts happening to the roof padding from the back side too.

There is something confusing though; Im not sure I know about the "renewable" tinted permit, I have for two of my cars and there are no expiries on any of them or any provision for renewal; both straight from Force Headquaters in Abuja and signed duely from the DIG's office. Im not sure of the renewable side of that theory.
Car Talk / Re: Engine Vibrates When Tachometer Reading Is Low by Onwan: 2:25pm On Jun 11, 2010
@OP

Kunle-A has the point with the Alternator (especially with your battery situation).

You should have the Spark plugs and wires checked. You should also have them check you fuel pressure (your fuel pump might be trying to say something). IF all these are checked OK, then you are probably in the sensor (Oxygen, idle, MAF, etc) country.
Autos / Re: PT Consult alleged to be Fraudulent by Onwan: 1:16pm On Jun 11, 2010
Volvoman:

Mr Onwan,

You claim to help all the people scammed by Ptconsult, i have read through this thread it seems you are part of Pt consults crew. Do something and help catch him not spill out jargon.

@Volvoman
Please do not insult me. Whatever I tried doing initially was basically out of thinking the "fraud" was real and that the people involved are real, later I found out from what I was reading online that its all just a bunch of user IDs, no real names, pictures , phone numbers - even of the "victims". I pay for internet access, not to waste my time or be insulted BUT for value.

When stories are not straight and it appears I cant put a handle on even the "victims", I think its simply best to walk away.

It doesnt have to take all of nairaland to tell someone who claims he lost millions to report to the appropriate authorities, also it doesnt take a rocket scientist to know that for any commitment above 100k, there has to be some sort of agreement and at least a flow of reference NOT FROM WHAT YOU SEE OR READ ONLINE but from your own evaluation of the individual on or after a meet.

IF I see anyone scammed by PT Consult and the person is forthcoming, then there are channels like the Police and EFCC that should be able to advise on ways.
So, Volvoman, I dont know you or your sex or where you are BUT its very important I warn you not to insult me again. Whatever detail was used to contact the PT Consult person was provided by other people on nairaland - NOT EVEN BY THE "VICTIMS". Im a real person, and not an ID, so please do not insult me.

Owode Onirin is a large auto/hardware market on Ikorodu Road, after Ketu/Mile 12. The particular car lot (the only one anyway) is owned by two guys and they are twins. You, or whoever you are sending wont miss the place - Its after the weigh bridge by the filling station and like I said you will see lots of Touareg and other high end vehicles right in front of the place.

I dont have their own number (used to have their card somewhere) BUT I have a friend I buy Benz parts/accessories from almost opposite them - You can call him and locate them through him, then he can help supervise and help you get a good one, BUT you will have to deal him in (thats what Im assuming) - You or your person cant miss the place. Let me know IF you would want to locate them through Ade Motors, so I can give you his number.
