A drunk soldier (names withheld) attached to a Brigadier in Ogoja, Cross River State, last Sunday, killed three persons and shattered his own legs, when he drove his Honda Accord car recklessly. Sources said the military man took his girlfriend (names withheld) to Okuku, the town close to brigade for the Yala new festival celebration and allegedly got drunk. He decided to return to the barracks located a kilometre away against the advice of his host. A source said: “He was drunk and we advised him to allow someone drive the car to the barracks but he refused. “It was while he was speeding back that he hit an Okada (commercial motorcycle) and the car ran into a tree, killing the two boys on the Okada and his girlfriend.” The woman, a mother of two, was said to have lost her husband, a soldier, to the Boko Haram violence in Maidu-guri, Borno State. in 2010. Her younger brother said she was the one sustaining the family. He said: “We don’t know what to do, because we feed from the profit she made from selling drinks.” Source1: www.vanguardngr.com/2013/09/drunken-soldier-kills-3/ Source2: www.chidubai./2013/09/18/drunken-soldier-kills-3/ |

A widower in Brazil, Aparecido Castaldo, 74, has decided to end his solitutude and marry his pet goat, Carmelita. She doesn’t speak and doesn’t want money,” says the father of eight children – four women and four men from four different marriages. Mr Castaldo, who has been in love with the pet for two years, wanted to be united with his goat Carmela in a church, by an evangelical minister. Unfortunately, none of the churches he contacted with his unusual request wanted to perform the ceremony. So Aparecido eventually contacted Toninho do Diabo (Tom the Devil), an old friend who just happens to be one of the most famous satanists in Brazil. The wedding is now scheduled to take place at midnight, on October 13, at the Devil’s Church, in Sao Paolo. Only our church accepted this love between man and animal because we have no prejudice, Toninho said. The wedding will be followed by a big party on All Souls’ Day the following day. Carmelita ate her first wedding dress but has been found another. Her husband to be , Mr Aparicedo said: “Whenever someone says I am doing something wrong I reply the goat does not speak, ask for money to go shopping and doesn’t get pregnant – and she can’t talk. Mr Mandela has been in hospital since 8 June Reports that former South African President Nelson Mandela has been discharged from hospital are incorrect, South Africa's presidency says. The BBC and other news outlets earlier quoted sources close to Mr Mandela as saying he had returned home. The presidency said in a statement that Mr. Mandela was critical but stable, but at times his condition became unstable, prompting medical intervention. The 95-year-old was admitted with a recurring lung infection on 8 June. The country's first black president, Mr Mandela is revered by many as the father of the nation. His prolonged hospital stay - by far the longest since he was released from prison in 1990 - has caused concern both in South Africa and abroad. The BBC's Mike Wooldridge in Johannesburg says the family has long hoped that he would improve sufficiently at least to enable him to make the journey home in the Johannesburg suburb of Houghton and be treated there. But one of the sources quoted by international media has now spoken of being misinformed about Mr Mandela's release. The confusion could have arisen out of a possible move soon to get the former president home, which would clearly depend on his health at the time, our correspondent says. The infection he is being treated for is said to date back to a period of nearly three decades he spent in prison for anti-apartheid activity. People from South Africa and around the world have sent him their best wishes, and flowers and other tributes have collected outside Pretoria's MediClinic Heart Hospital. Throughout Mr Mandela's stay in hospital, President Jacob Zuma has urged the country to pray for him and keep him in their thoughts. What kind of Amoeba is this!! Naegleriafowleri !!?? Jeeez!!! |
Zachary Reyna, a 12-year-old Florida boy stricken with a brain-eating parasite, has died, according to a post Saturday on a Facebook page that's been providing detailed updates from the boy's family. The post indicated that the LaBelle child died Saturday afternoon. "The battle is over for Zac but he won the war," the post concluded. About an hour later, a new message said that a ventilator was being used so that the boy's organs could be donated, adding that family and friends can visit him at Miami Children's Hospital during visiting hours Sunday. "Even though Zac has passed, he will still be saving many lives," this new post said. Doctors had given Zachary an experimental drug to treat the rare amoeba, called Naegleria fowleri, that he had. This same drug was used to treat 12-year-old Kali Hardig recently in Arkansas, after which she became only the third person in the last 50 years known to survive the deadly parasite. Zachary's family told CNN affiliate WBBH they believe that the boy -- who they described as an active seventh-grader -- was infected while kneeboarding with friends in a water-filled ditch by his house on August 3. After he was hospitalized, the boy underwent brain surgery, and doctors diagnosed him with primary amoebic meningoencephalitis, according to WBBH. After news emerged regarding Zachary's diagnosis, the Florida Department of Health issued a warning to swimmers that high water temperatures and low water levels provide the perfect breeding ground for this rare amoeba. Between 2001 and 2010, there were only 32 reported cases of people getting Naegleria fowleri in the United States, according to the CDC. Most of the cases have been in the Southeast.
