Thegoodone13: . No but I'm just be concerns about the security situation of the National. You give them 250m today and they released the children, they will keep on kidnapping people and turned it to business Is it their fault that we have an irresponsible and ineffective FG that have failed numerous times to secure its citizens? The parents who failed to pay the ransom at the other private university in kaduna out of patriotism and a stubborn belief that the President will secure and safely bring back their kidnapped children ended up sorrowfully carrying their murdered children to the grave! Which father or mother will stay calm knowing that the bandits have threatened to start killing their children if they dont come up with the ransom! Haba we are talking about human lives which is far more valuable than any ransom that will ever be paid no matter what it will be used for! Will you in clear conscience allow your children to be at the mercy of those terrorists knowing fully well that you can do something to save their lives? Please place the blame and responsibility on the ineptitude of a clueless president and not the parents or the church that acted swiftly to avert another mindless tragedy! |

pacespot: If the president and state governors do not control the police in the US, who does so then? Setup a proper police council made of of reps that represent stakeholders in the state(i can name some if you want) The legislative should amend the constitution to empower the council to appoint and control the prospective police commissioner! The state government will be responsible for the funding but in the future,a state police tax should be used fund the police! pacespot: There was a time that the former USA president Donald Trump nominated one man (forgotten his name) as a supreme court judge and he was about to be confirmed by the Senate, but there was a rape allegation levelled against this man by a woman in which an investigation needed to be done. After his senate hearing, it was reported that Trump protected the man from being investigated by FBI, since he was the only person as a president who could give order for the investigation to be conducted on the allegation, but he declined. Due to this, the man was confirmed by the senate. I dont think that was what transpired because i followed that story with keen interest! If there is one thing i know about US laws, they run a system that has zero tolerance for rapists or allegations of rape...they dont even care if you play golf with the president, if allegations of rape against you are found to be true, they will prosecute and jail such personality no matter their position or level! The woman that was allegedly raped could not even prove the judge was the one who raped her and the case was thrown out! |
Politics › Re: State Police: Governors Not To Be Trusted With Control Of Arms — Sir Udensi by openmine(m): 2:21pm On Jan 16, 2022 |
goslowgoslow: So who will control it sir? A State Police council made up of a representative from stakeholders like the state government, judiciary, state house of assembly, traditional rulers, student union, pressure groups like the civil society or/and respective unions, etc They will have the express powers to appoint and control the police commissioner though the state governor may recommend! The state police council must also be made up of personalities with no previous criminal case or record against them and with no questionable character that might undermine the integrity of the council or affect the choice of its decision! No system is perfect, foolproof or static hence amendments can be made from time to time when flaws or challenges are noticed! However its imperative to start now to curb the carnage going on in the country esp the north! One thing we need to understand is that the current system of policing is no longer effective and may one day lead to anarchy like we all witnessed a little portion during the #EndSARs impasse...which may get worse if the current system persists! State policing as its perceived by some negative quarters is a totally wrong and misplaced analogy.... Some of the negative remarks towards state policing is based on ignorance or hasty assumptions that the word state instantly connotes control by the state governor as it is in the federal! The legislative arm of government can come up with a better and creative way of curbing some of the complains on state policing! |
Politics › Re: State Police: Governors Not To Be Trusted With Control Of Arms — Sir Udensi by openmine(m): 11:06am On Jan 16, 2022 |
State policing does not imply that it will be controlled or managed by the governors! I am quite perplexed that a personality with such exalted security position could come up with this outdated thinking as a reason to throw out or reject state policing as the president did! |
Politics › Re: State Police: Governors Not To Be Trusted With Control Of Arms — Sir Udensi by openmine(m): 10:59am On Jan 16, 2022 |
aribisala0: Why must state police be under control of governors ? I s that the only way state police can exist? If we go for a truly federal system then there will be need to reduce the powers of the governors and strengthen the State Houses of Assembly as well as the Judiciary. Why can't police be independent of the Governor? We just need to think creatively and research around the world how they have solved this problem Thank you so much for this timely input! This is the type of policing practised in developed countries like the US! |
Politics › Re: State Police: Governors Not To Be Trusted With Control Of Arms — Sir Udensi by openmine(m): 10:46am On Jan 16, 2022 |
pacespot: While you have a good point in your argument, things are much different in Nigeria than they are in the USA. Mentally speaking, White people are different from Blacks by a lot, they are much more advanced and civilized than average Africans. If you come to Nigeria, you will see that people abuse their powers a lot while in government. We just had a case recently where a state governor (Sanwo-olu of Lagos State) tried to challenge the police CSO who was carrying out the judgment of the supreme court in the state during the land dispute in the Magodo area of the State. If there was a state police, he could have simply used them to obstruct the justice process and prevent the court order from being implemented, this is the highest court in the country we are talking about here.
I know the federal police are no saints either, but giving the power of police to one man which is the president is better than all the 36 governors with much more vested interests. The president can be scrutinized by all Nigerians because he is just one man, but how is it possible to scrutinize all the 36 state governors of the federation?
The regional police seems like a delicate balance between the governors abusing their powers and the president doing the same in the center. But let us see how the regional security networks set up like amotekun and ebubeagu, are able to perform before deciding if a regional police is a better option. The difference between these two countries is the constitution that they operate! It has absolutely nothing to do with the colour of your skin! True Federalism is more pronounced & practised in the US due largely to its constitution but here in Nigeria, the word federalism is just a TAG! In the US,the President or state governors do not 'control' the police! State & federal policing is done in the US without the control of the state governors or president.... That is as a result of a well articulated constitution! When our legislators are ready,we will have a proper policing structure in Nigeria where there is state, federal, Lga & community policing instead of the current outdated structure! |

The only way she can miraculously win the 2023 presidential election is if her party is 20th on the final result and the 1st position to 19th get disqualified by the supreme court! Very unlikely! |
