As much as I would give this administration a pass mark for their infrastructural strides we must also not forget the premise of this administration when they came into power in 2015 which was to tackle insecurity, develop a robust economy and reduce corruption!
Today what are we witnessing in this administration?
Insecurity has been amplified and now a threat to the same infrastructures that the administration is embarking on!
The highest point and the most embarrassing of insecurity in our country was when a group of terrorists braggadocios style bounced into abuja unchallenged or unseen by any security force, broke into kuje prison and released their fellow terrorists.....just to show the porousness of our security system, they even had time to pray before leaving the prison in what should be one of the safest cities in the country!

What about the economy after almost 8 years of this administration?
The fact that Nigeria remains the only OPEC country that still imports fuel, diesel and aviation products is a testament of how our economy has nosedived!
What about electricity?
No month passes by without witnessing a national grid collapse!
Same administration that promised 3 million jobs in a year but the unemployment rate has increased to 33% 'officially'!

The administration had initially resorted to first blaming the former administration, before blaming covid19 pandemic and now the Ukraine/Russia war for our inability to achieve the robust economy that they wanted!

The naira performance against the dollar is another humongous issue that once again puts the incompetence of the president and his ministers on the spotlight!

What about the plan to end corruption in this administration?
The highlight of the administration's corruption fight will not be complete without mentioning a man that should have retired from civil service but was surprisingly brought back by the president and supervised the alleged stealing of over a 100 billion of which some were used in acquiring properties all over the country!

At the end of the day, everyone can agree that the current president has done his 'best' based on his ability but this is clearly not good enough!
Politics / Re: Bolaji Akinyemi: How Jonathan Didn't Sign Confab Report by openmine(m): 11:15pm On Sep 26, 2022
This is yet another baseless and unnecessary news!
If the former president could not sign such a laudable report that will not only unite Nigerians but also solve the many issues that are currently bedeviling our country, the next president should have done so immediately!
After all government is a continuum!

JJuanMiguel:

There's a report that ASUU pursued reps from ministries of finance and education during the negotiation and fixed their salary at 180%
If there is a report about such, please do well to bring or show it here! I don't rely on beer parlour gist!
Once again and at the risk of sounding like a broken record,ASUU was not the one that proposed that that lecturers salaries be increased by 180%...This was contained in the recommendation made first by the jibril committee report in 2021 and then Nimi Briggs committee report in 2022....Remember that both committees were created and belonged to the FG not ASUU!

JJuanMiguel:

Right now, the only problem is the no work no pay stance of the FG, ASUU didn't anticipate that. Forget about all these gimmicks of revitalization funds and fighting for students.
That is your opinion and you are entitled to them!
However your opinion doesn't take away the fact that our universities are in a terrible state and in need of urgent rehabilitation!
I have personally been to some of our universities and i must confess that its an eyesore!
You may have your personal vendetta with some lecturers due to your past dealings and disappointments with them but it will be illogical to generalize!
ASUU still have options before them....They are not the first to be issued such order...The resident doctors were given the same order and refused to obey which was finally resolved out of court!
However, the union has decided to follow the law on the advice of their lawyers to appeal!
They can appeal the ruling by seeking a 'status quo' order!

JJuanMiguel:

The lecturers also want to live large and are demanding for huge salaries which is not a bad thing, but they should stop shutting down schools every year and delaying people's destiny to try and achieve that.
You seem not to understand the job that a teacher puts in educating a student!
A teacher or lecturer should be living large because the directly and indirectly affect the economy of the nation!
No one including you became something in life without the effect or a teacher or lecturer!
A professor in england earns over 3k pounds a month and a professor in nigeria collects 450k but a councilor in a remote area in a state in Nigeria collects close to a million naira and you want the lecturers to give their best to the students?
The shutting down of schools should have been avoided a long time ago if the FG had done their job properly by agreeing to a negotiation that they had made!

JJuanMiguel:

Everywhere you go now, it's only about how they can't teach on empty stomach and how hungry they are.
This is so insensitive from you!
Do not allow your personal grudge with a lecturer cloud your sense of judgement!
Which lecturer that has been owed for more than 4 months will have the strength to teach?

JJuanMiguel:

The appeal court will give same verdict as the NIC, return to work and continue negotiations.

Let us wait for the appeal court before trying to preempt their judgement!
Like i said before, they have options which are in their favour!

JJuanMiguel:

The neutrals and the law are on the students' side
lol.....The students under NANS have told the union not to resume!
Let the law be interpreted in a court of law not on nairaland!
Education / Re: Letter Ordering VCs To Reopen Universities by openmine(m): 5:18pm On Sep 26, 2022
JJuanMiguel:

Lol, even ASUU themselves know that's not feasible.
Lecturers in top universities around the world engage in useful research works and attract funds and grants from various organizations around the world for their universities. The universities in turn don't lack funds to compensate them accordingly.

Useful research work is either personally funded or the university does the funding!
The former is not possible due to the salaries that even a professor earns!
However, this is not the bone of contention!
There is always an opportunity to renegotiate with another committee!

JJuanMiguel:

Your people here only do paper work for the sake of promotions, in their so called "research" a sentence will include citations from 10 different authors, they can't discover any new thing.
They just victimize students, chase girls, come to class 3x in a semester and submit demands to the FG.

Firstly,i am not a lecturer or part of ASUU....I am only trying to tackle the issues from an objective point of view!
Secondly,As much as i agree with your last statement about some lecturers in our universities, you will agree with me that not all lecturers are into what you are trying to accuse all of them!
Lets not lose sight of the main issue at hand which is the revitalization of our universities and review of the upward salary structure of lecturers!
The other issues can be resolved by setting up another committee by the FG to investigate what you are alleging!

JJuanMiguel:

The same ASUU shedding crocodile tears now invited welders to seal off the SUB at oau sometimes ago to silence the students and prevent them from fighting for their rights
This is off topic!
The question is did the FG renege in their negotiation and agreement with ASUU through the committee that they set up?
Did FG throw out the 2 reports by committees that they themselves setup to resolve the issue with the union?
Once we are done with resolving the questions at hand,we can talk about how to investigate the excesses of the university lecturers in nigeria!

JJuanMiguel:

You mean the one ASUU pursued representatives from ministeries of finance and education and fixed their salaries at 180% increment.

grin grin
Its well!
The increment was done and contained in the Nimi briggs commitee report where it recommended the 180% increase in the salaries of the university lecturers!
The increment according to the committee report was to enable the salaries of lecturers to be in line with what is earned by university lecturers around the world!
As for ASUU pursuing the ministers of finance and education, then i will have to see such link or news about such before i can believe!
However i do know that if the FG is serious about revitalizing the universities, then they should abide by the recommendations of the two committees that they set up!
There is still room for another committee to be set up by the FG as long as they will abide by the eventual report of that same committee! grin

Open this school dont waste student life PDP promise you what no government can pay
Why pdp no pay the 1.3 trillion b4 leaving office since obj
You guys dont even follow the news at all!
The current administration threw out the PDP led administration under then president GEJ negotiations with ASUU which was done in 2009 and did a fresh negotiation by setting up two separate committees!
The first was done in 2021 where the Jibril committee negotiated with ASUU and recommended in a report to the presidency which was eventually thrown out by the same presidency!
The second was done in February 2022 by the Nimi Briggs committee set up by the same presidency who also negotiated with ASUU and made a recommendation in the eventual report to the presidency....The same report was thrown out by the presidency!
If they know that they cannot not abide by their agreement, why set up two committees who made recommendations to them?
This has nothing to do with Obj or PDP but the inability of an administration to abide by a simple agreement!

The president should Sign into law the bill to remove electricity generation, transmission and distribution from the exclusive list and place it in the concurrent list!
In other words, authorise the STATES to generate, transmit and distribute electricity to their citizens!
There are states with financial muscles that can do it!
Or better still, electricity companies can obtain licence from the state government to generate, transmit and distribute electricity to some districts in a state!
States that are not financially bouyant for such project can remain in the national grid or tap from a neighbouring state that can generate electricity!
Enough of this national embarrassment!

Are you aware that the bandits and herdsmen you see today are part and parcel of the Bokoharam/iswap group?
Are you also aware that they also pledge an allegiance with ISIS that supply them with the weapons that you see them wielding?
These terrorists are the ones responsible for the massacre at owo Ondo state....they are also responsible for most of the killings and kidnapping in Benue,Niger, kaduna and katsina state...this is public knowledge!
I have news flash for you, they are already in the south....
This is why governor akeredolu asked for AK47 and other sophisticated artilleries to aide the fight against the terrorists that are bandists, herdsmen and bokoharam members!
For you to even ask me to show you pictures of herdsmen carrying RPG just again proves you don't have a TV or even if your had one,the only channel available for your viewing is NTA grin grin

Cognitivereason:

plus RPG usage can never be granted for any para military unit not to even talk of state police.. if you want FG to allow state police whatsoever to use RPG to balance weapon arsenals then you will continue to wail..

Nigeria is at war and if you are going to engage the enemy, you must go with superior weapons to stand any chance of defeating your assailants!

lol

these are amotekun operatives with shotguns
Oga they do not have weapons to face RPG armed herdsmen or sophisticatedly armed bandits!
Lets even assume without conceding that the ameotekun operatives were given 'shotguns' and 'knives' to engage bandits that use an RPG or highly devastating weapon of warfare...does that make any sense to you?

Now you are not only blind, your cerebrum is right now on a cliff!
So in your own thinking, you feel knives will be sufficient to ward off bandits? grin grin
I thought its because your were benighted....Now i know you had issues with your communications lecturers or you skipped english school!

Cognitivereason:

read the details of the news that says Akeredolu was angry about kastina's use of AK 47
some of you dunce read the headlines and come and shout without going through the details
Akeredolu was angry about approving AK 47 to kastina and leaving the SE and SW with shotguns

You are a glorified Olodo with zero information!
So shotguns are good enough to ward off terrorists that wield RPG and Ak47?
If shotguns according to you was good enough why do you think the governor was unhappy with FG giving permission to katsina security outfit to use AK47? Did you not reason that its due to the obvious limitations of the shotgun that made him feel it would be better to engage and match the terrorists with better weapons like APCs,AK47 and RPG or their likes?

Once again lets assume without conceding that amoetekun was given the licence to use shotguns according to you....the governor you are lamblasting told the press that he had setup his own security outfit but the FG have refused to allow them use a single weapon....Not even a shotgun!
So far no FG or aide have spoken anything contrary to what Ortom has said!
So what should they use in engaging the bandits and terrorists in the rural communities? Bow and arrow or pen knife with cutlass?
I would have said make use of your encephalon but i just remembered that it relapses anytime it tries to be engaged in proper discus!

Cognitivereason:

Ortom did nothing.. let me bring his proof that he sat with higher authorities to seek approval for weapons

I remember all SW governors in a meeting with the VP to discuss the establishment of Amotekun
Chai indeed common sense is not common!
Is benue state part of the SW?
He granted interviews with Arise morning show,AIT,TVC news and ChannelsTV morning show and he said the same thing about the FG refusing to give his security outfit the license to even have a 'handgun'!
Up till this moment, non of the FG or the aides to the presidency has commented on what he said or denied his statements which implies that he is saying the truth!

Cognitivereason:

who told you amotekun is not armed..

Hahaha amotekun is armed and yet the governor of ondo state is angry that katsina state security outfit was permitted by FG to use arms but not amotekun?
The news is all over the internet about akeredolu accusing FG of playing double standard....some of you don't even read the news but come here and display your ignorance!

Cognitivereason:

what is the difference between state police and state security outfit. are their aims not the same

State policing gives the state government not only the power or authority of recommendation but appointment and also firing of any state commissioner that refuses to perform its primary duties!
State policing ensures that the indigenous people of the state that are fully aware of the terrain are recruited to solve the insecurity problems in their state and LGAs because insecurity is local and must be solved by the locals who are well aware of their domain!
State and community policing also ensures that the police commissioner of the state and LGA act quickly to a conflict or crisis to ensure it doesn't snowball into a full blown war but the present system o policing will make the police commissioner to wait until there is a war before the IGP from abuja authorises the commissioner to act!
State and community policing will ensure adequate funding for their security system with logistics, acquisition of the right weapons and setting up of an intelligence unit to curb insecurity!

Cognitivereason:

no body is saying we do not need state police law

Another classic own goal!
You are contradicting yourself!
You just asked me why I think we need state and LGA/community policing and here you are admitting we need one! Smh

Cognitivereason:

but did anything stop kastina or the western region from establishing theirs?
did anything stop Ebubeagu from legally operating?
are the three not armed. the difference is /.. those of kastina are armed with AK 47..while the rest are with shotguns..

First go and read the constitution on policing!
This will give u a broader perspective as to why governors are not responsible for insecurity in their own state!
Why do you think instead of creating a security outfit in Niger state, the governor ran to the president in abuja to complain about the invasion of terrorists in his domain?
The likes of ebubeagu and amotekun are not permitted by law to use guns but to act as an intelligence unit to the present policing system in that state! This is common knowledge
This was the reason why governor of ondo akereodolu was disappointed recently that the FG permitted katsina state setup security outfit to have weapons like ak47 and yet amoetekun that was setup earlier were denied permission for acquiring weapons!
How can you setup a security outfit and yet deny them the authorisation to acquire quality and capable weapons to fight against an enemy that uses sophisticated weapons like RPG?

Cognitivereason:

have you heard of Ortom to addressing this aside wailing?

after 7 years Ortom formed a security outfit where members do not have common knives and you are here talking rubbish..

I am not sure you live in Benue state or have been there..that is why you are talking rubbish...

The fact that you don't even understand what is going on in your own state as you alluded to is the very reason why you are wallowing in your perpetual ignorance!
I heard the same governor of Benue state when he talked about setting up a security outfit like amotekun but he said the outfit was denied by FG to purchase weapons for the security outfit!
Do you expect a security outfit mandated to crush a unified terrorist organisation without the required or sophisticated weapons?
Not even an APC(armoured personnel carrier)
Yet when katsina state own security outfit sort the FG for permission to acquire weapons they were expressly authorised!
This is the same thing that akeredolu was talking out recently!
Double standard for different states!
But I doubt if you know about that...all you know is sit where ever you are like a glorified illi.terate to type trash instead of asking relevant questions that will keep you enlightened! Smh

Cognitivereason:

If a state wants to establish it own security outfit ..the governors know what to do..

Same ignorance on display!
If you like setup a 100 security outfits in one state,if they are not authorised or empowered to carry sophisticated or superior weapons to engage the terrorists, nothing will happen and the massacre will continue unabated!

Cognitivereason:

Benue state is not serious.. a state where every worker is owed.. how will they afford another organisation for security?

Hope you can say the same thing about the Niger state and jigawa state governors whose domain have been ravaged by insecurity!
I am not in any way holding brief for the governor but its important to ask some pertinent questions to comprehend their struggle!
First the state gets their IGR mainly from agriculture and the rural areas that contribute to this IGR have been thrown out from their farm lands due to bandits, herdsmen and kidnappers and are currently in IDP camps!
The only funds available to them is the little FAAC allocation that is mostly used for salary of workers which is not even enough to pay all of them!
Are you aware that Benue state has one of the highest wage bill in the country?

Cognitivereason:

Lastly being factual is not defending Buhari..use your head
Factual you said? Try harder! Unimpressed!
Please don't make me laugh so hard at your obvious callowness!
Even a buhari supporter though at times can be ignorant is by far better in engaging an issue compared to you!
Once again make sure your cerebrum is not disconnected from your fingers before typing!

Is it not the same toothless amotekun that could not stop the massacre that happened at Ondo?
Please why have you refused to mention Niger state,Katsina state or jigawa state where banditry and terrorism have ravaged them for months or are they not part of the north with benue or are their governors not incharge of their security in their state?

And also need to alter his grade. It is childish. The point he is a graduate and whether one has first-class or pass does not determine how successful one will be in life.
It was even by God's Grace he graduated. He spent more time outside the school doing business.
If you graduated the same time just like him doesnt mean anything!

There is no stamp on the certificate and the letterhead paper is not even from UNN. There is even no name under the signature of the VC and rector.

You guys must think the rest of us are dunce. We want to see the original certificate of Peter Obi in full UNN colors and not a black and white photocopy that can be typed at any business centre on Onitsha head bridge. This is obviously a fake and nothing else. And yes, he m simply wailing like a typical IPOB wailer grin
Nah wa for una ohh grin grin
Can a Nigerian do NYSC without a confirmed and verified first degree certificate esp in the 80s?
Secondly,if you have doubts that the cerificate is questionable, why not make your findings by getting in contact with the university he attended!

If the country's experience from 1960 is anything to go by, I'm sure time has spoken except we have chosen not to reason with the voice of time. If we want to continue to experiment and search for the leaders we've not had since the independence of 1960 and following the subsequent inglorious destruction of the regional system bequeathed to us, time will speak again.

One can either be a saint or sinner, no sitting on the fence. And I maintain that among the crop of politicians we have around us today, a saint is scarce. Aren't they the same set of people jumping from one party to another? Everyone fighting for their selfish objectives. So, where are the good leaders to appoint and who will appoint them? The mass illiterate and poverty-stricken people that constitute the bulk of the voters? People that have had their mind fixated by culture and religion to think in a particular way? The people you have not been able to change for over 100 years of amalgamation and 60 years of independence? I laugh...

The earlier the reality is faced, the earlier the problem is given a pragmatic solution. Your cultures, ways of life, approaches to issues and tradional ways of governance are miles different. That was why you were given the regional system in 1960. The problem that incursioned into the regional system post 1960 could have been avoided if the central government was still under the control of the British while each region continued to grow at its pace.

Meanwhile, I don't believe we can't have a system SIMILAR to the UK's, I only believe we can't have what is EXACTLY like the UK's. If a system worked prior to independence, why can't it work today? Like I said, time will tell if the coming elections will usher in the leaders that will solve the problems on ground. We'll continue to study the trend of events as they unfold.

Kasssandra:

I myself know that what you are saying is true.

I too would love it if we sold fuel at 20 naira a liter.

But the fact is, paying for subsidy is creating a big hole in our budget , fuelling corruption and losing us a lot of money and jobs every year. And indirectly worsening the value of the naira. Plus we are spending billions subsiding fuel for all our neighbors because smuggling.

Either we keep subsidy and keep on getting more of the above or we remove subsidy and at least stop paying people free money to loot plus we in essence incentivise domestic refining. With the resulting increase in jobs and income for all.

Choose the medicine. I'm sorry for sounding so harsh, but subsidy has to go. Thanks to high oil prices we have spent twice as much as we spent last year on subsidy, and the year is not over.

We can disagree here sans rancour.
I also understand where you are coming from and i honestly want the subsidy out today because of the humongous hole it has created!
However,Nigerians must not be be beneficiaries of consistent sufferings due to the continuous negligence of our past and present leaders to do what is right!
If the government has been true to their words to repair and build refineries from the beginning of this administration or past administrations, fuel subsidy will not be mentioned by now!
Look at what is happening to the price of aviation fuel and diesel that have been deregulated...The last i heard about a flight price was a 100k.....Now imagine when Nigerians start buying fuel at #450 per litre!

My question to you is how will Nigerians be able to afford food products that are heavily dependent on the price of fuel if the subsidy is removed today?

They cannot build or repair them.

Hasn't history taught us anything?

Since Abacha's government, the Nigerian-owned refineries have been in perpetual state of (dis)repair.
So how were they able to repair the PH refinery?
I'm not saying that bringing in the private owners to build refineries is a bad idea...However,the FG can also build or repair theirs as a means of generating their own IGR!
Where there is competition, the fuel price and others will gradually fall!

MDM2021:

Can Obi restructure the country? Let's be sincere with ourselves.

Obviously, you did not peruse my earlier point!
This is not about Obi....its about what the electorates want or desire!
It starts with electing the right people into important positions that will influence the path way to restructuring!
If we elect the same people that have kept us this way for more than 20 years of our democracy,we will still keep having this conversation!
The power to choose rest on the electorates not an individual!

MDM2021:

I'm not saying people should fold hands. However, I think the issue of restructuring or the salient matters raised in the 2014 confab report should have been seriously addressed before the 2023 elections. That's why I said earlier that I don't still understand the magic wand any of the current candidates can use to solve the enormous problems.

The Confab report which you rightly talked about will not be discussed or done by the same leaders who want the status quo to continue!
The Confab captured resource control, state policing,Electricity decentralization etc and all we need is to ELECT TECHNOCRATS into the hollowed chambers to expedite on the laudable reports!

MDM2021:

The country currently uses about 90% of its revenue to service its debt. It has gotten to the point that the national assembly is considering scrapping about 400 MDAs to curb wastage in the face of dwindling revenue. There's a nation-wide security challenge while oil - the main stay of the country's economy - is reported to have been subject to continual theft. Which of the indicators on the performance dashboard is showing a positive sign currently?

The national assembly should start with themselves first!
The humongous expenses they accumulate is affecting the economy!
Were they not the same assembly that approved the inauguration of these MDAS?
This is why our choice of leaders from presidency to LGA chairman is paramount!
Leaders with the willpower to declare that the present system of central Policing is obsolete and State policing is an idea whose time has come in Nigeria!
Technocrats that will waste no time in implementing the decentralization of electricity and allow states to generate their own electricity!

MDM2021:

The UK is made up 4 countries basically - England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. That was how the country was patterned up till 1960 - Northern Nigeria, Eastern Nigeria and Western Nigeria - when it gained its independence. The Welsh, English, Scottish, and Irish people have been able to retain their individual country till date as it were. Can that be said of your country where people are being kidnapped and killed in their ancestral lands at the moment?
We cannot not be like the UK but we can chart a new course by knocking off the 'feeding bottle' federalism that we currently practice and imbibe fiscal federalism!

Kasssandra:

Only way for FG to repair refineries...remove subsidy first. Because the money that would have gone into repairing refineries is spent on subsidising fuel in the first place.....
If you remove the subsidy,it means nigerians will buy directly imported fuel which goes above #450 per litre!
The resultant effect is hyperinflation!
Nigerians and the economy will not survive if any president attempts to remove fuel subsidy without repairing the refineries!
Pandemonium is inevitable! Endsars protest will be childs play compared to what might transpire!
We cannot keep paying for the incompetence and negligence of an FG that have refused to get their priorities right!
Nothing was preventing the FG from getting funds to either repair or build new refineries!
A state in the US has 47 refineries and we are grappling with just one refinery which may not be enough to serve everyone!
Nigerians are not the ones that stopped them from building new refineries since this administration started!

Kasssandra:

Finally, you want fuel and diesel to be sold at cheap prices...from your last sentence. It does not work like that in real life. The people who bring and make the diesel you use want to be paid well. Same for fuel. And subsidy costs don't cover all their cost of living.
Is our crude oil imported?
Do we not have crude oil for domestic consumption?
Once local production begins, the 'landing cost' at the port will be taken out!
Achieving cheaper diesel and fuel is possible when more players come into a deregulated system which is already at work!
Let us start local production first and let the private refineries like dangote compete, this will drive down the price eventually!
