tosinaded@:em. . . my post below should answer the question of bands opensesame: Time? Lack of time? What excuse won't I hear now? Well, first, most shows are usually from 8 p.m. or so till 'mama calls'. Secondly, if Asa had 4 mins to sing to me, I'd still love to hear her voice live, not the SAME CD I have @ home. Kapish?? tosinaded@:Oh I dont doubt that!! People will keep enjoying them alright. People like . . . you!! princesa:Thank you, sweetie. You're far too kind |

When we can help out, we will, aight? @hussy hassy. . . nice name. em. . . methinks u should really relax. Yes, ur right, we applied and did the initial test around May/June last year. Gosh. I wonder wot it would have been like if I didnt have a job. So, feel free to put ur eggs in a coupla baskets. It's not like ur application will mos def take tym or som'n, but it could from experience, so relax and focus on other things while ur waitin'. To all med hopefulls. . . great nuz is on the way. . . tosinaded@:My sentiments exactly!! who cares, right? You know wot they say abt diff strokes, right? You dont mind goin to a concert, listening to the same CD u listen to every day, watchin' the artiste open and close his mouth, jumpin up and down. That's kool, bro. You dont even mind if the CD skips while they are 'chewing' their mouths, right? A kind soul you are! We need more people like you in this world. I, on the other hand, would love to go to a concert and hear an artiste perform a song in his own voice, in a different way from what I have on my CD. I don't mind listening to some live instruments being played. I appreciate The Art of Music that way. Goodness! People like me just ask for way too much from the poor artistes. It's terrible! princesa:Yeah, I bet you dont. It's nice of you to say that. Flavor, ei? Like the smokey effects, right? Now, that's wot I call flavor! princesa:Yeah, like runnin' into the stage! Well, I'd luv 2 see entrances like. . . coming in from the roof of the stage, from underneath the stage, In a car, bike or som'n. princesa:Yeah, like runnin' outta the stage. No, seriously, may I ask wot superb entrances and exits you've actually seen that left you satisfied? Just curious? princesa:Colourful costume! Awww aren't u a darlin. Here I am askin for all the stage stunts in the world (for my miserly, wot, N5000) and all she needs is for them to wear blue shirts and blue shoes to match. Spiced up with red and yellow bandanas. You see why we need more of y'all on earth. Kind souls. Listen up guyz. I've not been privileged to attend concerts of Michael Jackson, The Corrs, John Legend, Madonna. . . I could go on and on. But, I have at least seen them on TV, and when I look back at the crap most of our shows are, I just dont bother to attend them anymore. It's simple, we just need a different concert experience. Get a band. . . if you cant, at least record your instrumentals (remixed ones as well) and sing or rap to them. . . not mime!! for Pete's sake (we did that in sec school), cos I would like to know that my beloved artiste's voice wasnt just enhanced at the studio. Stage effects. . . get creative. Not all the stage stunts we see are that expensive, really. A lil, creativity and we'll be wowed. Coupled with well rehearsed choreography, connection with the audience. . . . Bingo!! PS. Please, please and please, someone get rid of those ugly female dancers. . . they suck!! But hey, who are we to ask for too much |

osasp: I prolly wont take it, but for a guy who has taken shots at so many acts includin' Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Fred Durst, Carson Daly, Marilyn Manson, Limp Bizkit, Moby, Lynne Cheney, MC Hammer amongst many others, he should have a high degree of resistance for ish like that. So, yes, Em was silly as a spoilt brat for walkin out like that (if it waznt staged). |

@Bamsyle, Simon seez and mbulela. . . . Well said guys!! Bamsyle:Walahi, it just seems like So many Nigerians are fooled by their antics on stage, judging by the way we dont seem to mind their poor performances. mbulela:About time too. I just feel you're a complete musician (not just a singer) when you can play one or too artfully. mbulela: mbulela:True, true. The guyz above do live shows good. Permit me to add The one and only ASA!! |
Music/Radio / Re: Where Is Naydo and Esther of RESONANCE? by opensesame: 9:17am On Jun 02, 2009 |
Are you for real?? Havent heard that song in a long time. Maybe I should start doing Radio again. Okay, so I decided to extend this search to ESTHER OF RESONANCE (Chinwe ike, Lee Lee). She was amazing, dont you think? Whatever happened to her too? |
Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Artists That Fell Off Big Time by opensesame: 4:58pm On Jun 01, 2009 |
jeff101:This guy is so wack!!! He DEFINITELY has some sort of weird deal with STAR for them to keep featuring him in their shows, as irrelevant as he is these days. jeff101:Slam was so kool!! Great songs, and he had great vids for that tym too. Last I heard, his album was supposed to drop May 26th (his bday). Hope he does fyn. jeff101:I wont agree that Azadus was talentless. 'You is d one' was dope. He did fantastic with def-o-klan too. jeff101:The only unsuccessful member of The Remedies?? So, Tony Tetuila and Idris are successful?? Me did not know that! jeff101:Good Riddance!! |
Music/Radio / Re: When Will Nigerian Artistes Improve Their Stage Performances? by opensesame: 4:07pm On Jun 01, 2009 |
rockyfela:Well, I said I READ that he was booed some time ago. Now, can you prove otherwise? Can they pay him to bring a live band to Nigeria? My point exactly. If he cant bring a live band, then the least we expect from him (them) is to at least sing to his instrumentals. Not MIME! And, Yes sir, I have seen a Tuface concert where all they did was play his CD and he sang. He even mimed! rockyfela:Like hell they need to improve. Pleaaaseeee. The only thing about Dbanj and Psquare's performances is that they are always high on cheap, NAFDAC unregistered drugs . So, they just do unnecessary gra gra on stage (Dbanj esp) backed up by a coupla ugly lookin female dancers. In their early days, Psquare used to spice up their performances with some dope choreography a lot though. That was kool. They still do, but not like b4. rockyfela:They mime dependin' on THE SONG?? You've got to be kiddin, right? If you did it in the studio, why cant you do it on stage? Listen, there are a coupla reasons why some artistes may mime. . . 1) Production quality for broadcast may be considered 2) Vocal issues with the artiste at that pt in time 3) Performin some dance routines and singin at the same time could be really technical and difficult But, there is no acceptable excuse for miming, whatsoever!! Now, if for the reasons above and any other remotely okay reason, an artiste mimes, say, once a year, we would understand. Not the HABITUAL LIP-SYNCHERS in Naij! PS. Jus cos Lil wayne mimes dont make it okay! audio:God Bless you, bro! That's the thing about a band. Saw Asa's performance once. It was A Beauty. Music as it should be. It's flexible, you hear and appreciate live instruments being played. The Art Of Music!! |

@damseremie WORD!!! Valid points you got there. Gbenga Salu. . . dude did a fantastic job with Ten-Ten. Very creative with the effects, I must say! I guess that's someone to watch out for. |

Music/Radio / Re: When Will Nigerian Artistes Improve Their Stage Performances? by opensesame: 1:06pm On Jun 01, 2009 |
rapjunkie:Okay, I thought you were kiddin when you asked for examples, but since you're serious, I'll humour you. To make things easy, I'll name a few artistes that I am almost sure will not do it (except for some strange reason). . . Asa, Lagbaja, Femi Kuti. Now, think of All other Naija artistes. . . . . . . . you're done? That's right. They all do it!! There you go. You've got your examples. Any other questions?? |
Music/Radio / Re: When Will Nigerian Artistes Improve Their Stage Performances? by opensesame: 12:58pm On Jun 01, 2009 |
Heard of numerous cases where the CD skips while they are miming or a different song suddenly plays (Dbanj). . . it's so disgraceful, really. Read that Tuface once got stoned out of a stage in the US for mimin'. Serves him right!! It's so disgustin' really. Why do they always do this? Artistes like Ashlee Simpson, Britney Spears, Milli Vanilli (ruined their career, actually) have come under heavy criticisms for doing it in the past, because, over there, they realise that it's despicable!! Here, we just watch them move their mouths, run around the stage and go home. |
Music/Radio / Re: When Will Nigerian Artistes Improve Their Stage Performances? by opensesame: 12:39pm On Jun 01, 2009 |
dominique: They also spice it up with some 'jumpin around' effects. dominique:Gosh!! My sentiments exactly. It's like they are playin on our intelligence and takin' us for fools. What's d point, we know it's ur CD playin, so drop the mic!! |
Music/Radio / Re: Who is The Best Music Video Director In Nigeria? by opensesame: 11:12am On Jun 01, 2009 |
audio: No, really, we cant tell if he is the real creative director or he's just frontin as one. audio:ah ah. DJ Tee still dey try now. da-whizkid:True, true. That thing he did with Sasha's Adara was creativity at it's best. That video didnt seem expensive ('newspaper' clippings & all) but it was dope! da-whizkid:I still trip for that video till 2day. Like, in 10 yrs tym, it'll still be tight! |
Music/Radio / Who is The Best Music Video Director In Nigeria? by opensesame: 10:37am On Jun 01, 2009 |
I have to say this is one area in the Nigerian Music Industry that is improving tremendously. We've actually moved from dancing in front of lawns, swimming pools and fine houses to HD pictures, animations etc. In your opinion, who's the best music video director, in terms of creativity, originality etc. I have to give some props to the old guys like Shina Adediji (Shinani) and Uzodinma Okpechi. . . they tried for their tym sha. Then Wudi Awa's 'No be God' video for Gino was definitely groundbreaking. Big ups to DJ Tee, Clarence Peters and PSquare's Director (if it's really Jude). . . oh and who Directs Darey's videos. That guy is dope!! Any others I missed out? So, guys, who do you think is King?? |
Music/Radio / Where Is Naydo and Esther of RESONANCE? by opensesame: 9:32am On Jun 01, 2009 |
She was this young gospel artiste. Great voice and great songwriter. She had songs like 'whisper' (i think), 'ur love' etc Never did see her album (dont even kno if she had one). Anybody heard from her lately |
Music/Radio / Re: When Will Nigerian Artistes Improve Their Stage Performances? by opensesame: 9:21am On Jun 01, 2009 |
like who? You mean like which nigerian artiste is guilty of lip-synchin' etc? You're jokin, right? Yeah, that was a nice one. You got me there for a second. |
Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Cd's Are Too Cheap! by opensesame: 9:03am On Jun 01, 2009 |
lalaboi: Yep! It's sad but true!! simon seez: WORD!!! No, you didn't say too much. You made a whole lot of sense. Just a coupla notes. . . *I'm not so sure about d closin alaba thing sha *When Asa's sophomore drops, I can buy it for over a thousand bucks without listenin to a track!! |
Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Cd's Are Too Cheap! by opensesame: 8:51pm On May 29, 2009 |
Hell yeah, they are damn too cheap! These are people's intellectual property we are talkin 'bout here! So much work put into it, they deserve more. Well, some of them. Some wack albums should actually sell for N20. or maybe for free. . . hell, we should get paid for getting the albums But classics like Asa's Asa (which I will definitely be listenin to in my retirement), should sell for what they are really worth. I felt so bad buyin it for 150, I had to buy more than 10 copies. . .really. Way forward, since it's almost impossible for the N100 thingy to end (actually it's gettin cheaper and cheaper), I think artistes should have better quality CDs (with booklets for lyrics, pics, the works) alongside the 'fake' alaba made CDs they have now. |
Politics / Nigerian Actors/artistes And Taxes by opensesame: 10:49am On May 28, 2009 |
Okay, the reason for this thread is cos of the 'Tax advert' by some Nigerian actors for the Lagos State Government. So, I'm thinking, unlike their counterparts abroad, Nigerian actors' fees are usually not public knowledge (not that they have to be or not), so, how does the government verify the right amount of tax they should pay? Same thing with Nigerian musicians. They make so much money from CD sales, shows, endorsements etc. Do they pay their taxes (and correctly too). Anybody got a clue? |
Music/Radio / When Will Nigerian Artistes Improve Their Stage Performances? by opensesame: 10:29am On May 28, 2009 |
It's so sickening, really. From lip-synching to zero-stage stunts, weak stage presence. . . I could go on and on. methinks the worst is by far the lip-synchin' thingy. It's so simple, if you really believe in ur voice (and not some studio enhanced ish) then since you dont have a band that can play live music (which should be the case), have CDs with ur instrumentals with you when ur performing so we can at least hear ur voice. If you come and mime over your song, how's that different from the CD we have at home?? |

hey onDcrox I completely understand how u feel about this nu devpt. And I'll probably feel the same way, but, like I said, let's give them d benefit of d doubt till we are 100% sure it's true. And even if it's true, You need to believe that if God says ur in, no nobody (whether from d north, south, east or west) can take ur place, okay? so just relax bro |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Shell Nigeria - The Next Generation by opensesame: 3:47pm On May 22, 2009 |
I really haven't made any comments so far because I really dont know wot to say about the turn of events. I come here everyday lookin forward to some great news, but the thread has taken on a sober tone. You know, as much as I'd like to give Shell the benefit of the doubt about this northern thing, the fact that a Shell staff actually said it means that it's probably true. If it's true, then that is very disappointin. . . really. I dont recall Shell sayin the SITP was strictly restricted to the South! The newspapers we saw the adverts are well circulated around Nigeria, so I dont understand the basis for an alleged exclusion, really. Having said that, I still believe we shouldn't give up hope!. Some of you have congratulated us med invitees for an exceptional performance. Thank you so much. But, I dare say that the fact that you all haven't been sent regret mails and passed d high cut off mark means that we all did excellently well!. So Bravo to you guyz as well. Now, with ur excellent performance (cos you have to give God something to work with), Faith and Trust in God and HIS will being that you will get into Shell at this point in time, there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about it! Nothing! So guyz (wumwum, Edoblakky, cheksa, Godeagle, EasyT, pepperyboy, onDcrox, uduak_mot and all), this is the time to keep the hope alive and keep Thanking God for what He HAS done! |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Shell Nigeria - The Next Generation by opensesame: 6:15pm On May 20, 2009 |
Whao, I really dont know what to say. Today has been slightly depressin in the house. Guys, it's been a long wait and we are understandably tired and anxious, but this is not the time to give up hope. This is the time to keep prayin. Trust me when I say this. Just trust God. I honestly cant tell when the right time to call is, but like Jisola said, maybe we should wait for Cheksa's friend first. See what happens with him, then make the next decision. It'll be kool guyz, aight? Cheer up!! |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Shell Nigeria - The Next Generation by opensesame: 11:05am On May 19, 2009 |
Hey guyz!! been a while innit? I see we've got some nu folks in d house. . . welcome 10qGod and onyeka80. Good to have u with us. but the thing is, most nu guys jus come around 1ce or 2ce and dont hang with us after that. Hope y'all will be different. Good to have macgboye and jibzgal back in d house with us. How's it been guyz? Congrats BOSON. Happy 4 u. @ all still expecting. . . whoa, i can only imagine wot it's been like! I hope, though, you havent been dwellin on it too much (e no easy sha). I feel the time is around the corner when ur wait will come to an end. With great nuz too!! I can feel it! It'll all fall into place, aight? Hey Jisola, yeah, finished my meds yesterday. took about 10 mins this time. The doc jus went thru my results, and then examined me with his stethoscope, wrote some comments on my file. . . I saw something (no, i'm not tellin ), and that was it!! Really stressfree. Cheers guyz. See y'all at Edjeba! |

princesa: Yeah, me too. . . i.e about the lost out thingy. Maybe next year!! princesa: Well, soft rock (i lyk hard too) is good to the ears really. Especially well written songs. Listen to a few more. You cud change ur mind. |
Music/Radio / Re: Hip Hop World Awards Winners by opensesame: 9:50am On May 19, 2009 |
princesa:Hey Princesa. A few comments on the highlighted words. Timaya has been 'recognized' @ the HHW awards b4. last yr (or was it last 2?), he won in this same category. And Tosin is right; it's an album. Jude Okoye Deserves more sef? Are you jokin? Hopefully, it's different now, but way back, did you ever watch the makin of their videos? The sometimes white technical guys would work their butts off, while Jude will sit somewhere gisting away, then at the end of d day, The video reads, 'Directed by Jude'. It's prolly still d same now. Pls, that guy is full of ishhh. I hated him the more when last year, he accused Ayo of tribalism jus cos Psquare didnt win anythin. Does anybody kno what the bonehead said this year? So, Princesa, Jude doesnt 'deserve more sef'!! I'll say this very politely (somethin you didn't consider when u said, 'who da hell. . ). Etcetera is a very talented singer/ songwriter. He's style is soft rock/ pop. He plays the guitar well and the good thing about his songs is that he actually uses live musical instruments instruments. I hope that answers ur question. Gongo Aso was released last year, got massive play and was more popular last year. But, the HHW awards, like most awards, has a calendar (popularly called 'the year under review') and Gongo Aso falls into that for HHW awards 2009. Geddit? @nana. . . . hope this also does it for u. princesa: Lost His touch?? Not a fan of Dbanj. but jus cos he didnt win an award dont mean he's lost his touch. He prolly wasnt bad. . . . the others were just better. |
Music/Radio / Re: Hip Hop World Awards Winners by opensesame: 4:06pm On May 18, 2009 |
Oh stop it you guyz!!!!! Enough already!!! Don't you ever get tired of this Rugged-mode thing?? Besides, this is the Hip Hop world awards Winners thread, so you're officially off-topic. I bet there are a whole bunch of Rugged-mode threads out there for you to fight in. So, oya, halaylay, cari una wahala go there!! Now to the winners, I think, overall it was fair. Really happy for 9ice, I.D Cabasa, M.I and Naeto C. I wanted M.I to win lyricist, but I have to give it to Mode. . he's good (Okay, you rugged fans dont come at me plzzz. Rugged is good 2, okay, so back off ) Didn't expect Omawunmi to win Next Rated. But hey, ish hapns. I also thought Street cred or le fe nu so shoulda got d best collabo. All in all, big ups to Hip hop world awards!! Still the best music awards in Naij!! |
