PoliticsYouth Coalition Plans Mass Protest To Demand INEC Chairman’s Sack by Orabi(op): 12:16pm On Jun 05, 2024
The South Unity Youth Coalition, consisting of various youth groups from the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria, has announced a mass protest on June 12, Democracy Day, to demand the removal of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The coalition believes that Professor Yakubu's leadership has severely compromised the credibility of Nigeria's electoral process and attributes numerous instances of electoral misconduct, voter intimidation, and result manipulation to his tenure, raising serious concerns among the Nigerian youth about the integrity of elections in the country.

A statement released by the Coordinator of the Coalition, Silas Maduke Clarkson, emphasized that these protests are crucial for safeguarding Nigeria’s democratic principles saying, "It would be a national disgrace for Nigeria to commemorate Democracy Day while tolerating an electoral body that has become synonymous with incompetence and lack of credibility."

Clarkson further emphasized the necessity of the protests as a response to the glaring electoral misconduct and ineptitude displayed by INEC under Professor Yakubu’s leadership. He stated, "The coalition strongly believes that INEC's reputation as the worst election agency in the country threatens Nigeria's democracy and must be addressed urgently."

The coalition's statement also condemned the unacceptable practice of ignoring blatant disregard for electoral integrity by the institution responsible for ensuring free and fair elections.

“The coalition is therefore committed to holding INEC accountable and demands the immediate removal of Professor Yakubu to restore public trust and confidence in the electoral process.

“We call on all Nigerians who are concerned about the future of democracy in the country to join us in this mass protest on June 12 at the Unity Fountain, Abuja to be preceded by a world press conference on June 11th at Agura Hotel. It is imperative that the voices of the people are heard and that those in positions of power are held accountable for their actions.

“We also call on all concerned citizens, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to join them in their quest for electoral reform and the removal of Professor Yakubu from his position. It is a call to action for all Nigerians who are tired of the status quo and who want to see a change in the way elections are conducted in the country.

“The INEC's failures under Professor Yakubu's tenure have sparked outrage among Nigerian youth, who view free and fair elections as a cornerstone of democracy. The call for his removal is driven by a genuine desire for transparent and accountable electoral practices. We believe that a leadership change at INEC is necessary to restore public trust in the electoral system and ensure that the will of the people is accurately reflected in election outcomes.

“The mass protest is a bold and necessary step toward demanding accountability and transparency in Nigeria's electoral system. It serves as a reminder to all Nigerians that our democracy is a precious gift that must be protected and nurtured by all citizens. The time has come for us to unite and demand the removal of those who do not uphold the principles of democracy and fair elections. Let us stand together on June 12 and make our voices heard for the sake of a better Nigeria.”
PoliticsNiger Delta Group Applauds Minister Bello Matawalle’s NIMASA C4i Integration Ini by Orabi(op): 12:32pm On Jun 04, 2024
The Niger Delta Consolidated Youth for Progress (NDCYP) has expressed its strong support for Minister of State, Defence Bello Matawalle’s recent efforts to integrate the Command Control Computer Communication Information System (C4i) of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) with the Falcon Eye surveillance system of the Nigerian Navy.

This initiative, the group explained, is aimed at enhancing the security of Nigeria’s maritime space and promoting economic prosperity.

In a recent visit to NIMASA’s C4i center in Kirikiri, Minister Matawalle inspected the operational model of the facility, demonstrating his commitment to bolstering national security through cutting-edge technology.

According to the NDCYP, this visit underscores the Minister's dedication to fostering synergy between government agencies, an essential component of effectively addressing national security concerns.

Eric Doraface Dickson, Chairman of the NDCYP, emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and NIMASA. He noted that improved information sharing and seamless coordination between these entities are crucial for combating maritime crimes and ensuring a secure maritime environment.

“We commend Minister Matawalle for his forward-thinking approach to modern security and national defense. His recognition of the synergistic potential between NIMASA's C4i system and the Nigerian Navy’s Falcon Eye system is a testament to his understanding of contemporary security challenges,” Dickson stated.

The NDCYP also praised President Tinubu for appointing Matawalle as the Defense Minister, highlighting that this decision signifies the administration’s commitment to fostering effective inter-agency collaboration. Such collaboration is vital for leveraging the full capabilities of Nigeria’s security infrastructure.

The NIMASA C4i center plays a pivotal role in the Deep Blue Project, employing advanced technology to facilitate the real-time sharing of security information among various assets such as Special Mission Vessels, helicopters, aircraft, fast intervention vessels, and specially purpose-built armored vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Navy’s Falcon Eye system provides real-time situational awareness along Nigeria's coastline through a network of radars, electro-optic systems, and automatic identification system receivers.

The integration of these two systems is expected to substantially enhance the surveillance and monitoring capabilities of both NIMASA and the Nigerian Navy. This will significantly improve the effectiveness of maritime security operations, deter illicit activities, and ensure the safety of Nigerian waters.

"The NDCYP is confident that this synergy will not only secure the maritime domain but also bolster investor confidence in the sector, thereby contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s Blue Economy.

“It is imperative that government agencies work together seamlessly to achieve common goals and effectively tackle security challenges in the maritime domain,” Dickson added.

The NDCYP remains steadfast in its support for Minister Matawalle’s vision for integrating the NIMASA C4i and Nigerian Navy's Falcon Eye systems. They believe this strategic collaboration will lead to a more secure maritime environment and foster economic growth through enhanced investor confidence.

The NDCYP is committed to promoting development, peace, and security in the Niger Delta region. Through advocacy, community engagement, and strategic partnerships, the group aims to ensure prosperity and sustainable growth for the region and its people.
PoliticsStrike: Group Blasts NLC/TUC For Holding 99% Nigerians Hostage by Orabi(op): 10:50am On Jun 04, 2024
The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI), on Tuesday, lambasted the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their ongoing strike action, accusing them of holding the entire country hostage for the benefit of a tiny minority.

The DWI condemned the labour unions' ‘selfish and reckless’ demands, warning that their actions would further exacerbate Nigeria's already dire economic situation.

The group, in a statement by its Director of Strategic Communications, Ismaila Umar Ali, noted that the strike has caused widespread hardship, with millions of Nigerians struggling to access basic services and make ends meet.

The DWI urged the government to stand firm and prioritize the welfare of the majority, rather than cave to the demands of a vocal minority.

Ali said: “It is unconscionable that a tiny fraction of the population, less than 1%, is holding the entire country to ransom, causing untold hardship and suffering for the majority.

“This is a stark reminder of the dangers of selfishness and the need for collective responsibility.”

The DWI criticized the unions' demand for the salary increase, noting that it would only serve to worsen Nigeria's inflationary trend and burden the already struggling masses.

He added, “At a time when the country is grappling with economic challenges, it is irresponsible for the labour unions to prioritize their own interests over the welfare of the nation.

“The government must not succumb to the pressure of the labour unions, but rather must prioritize the interests of all Nigerians.

“The labour unions must recognize that their actions have consequences and engage in meaningful negotiations that prioritize the welfare of all Nigerians, not just their own members.”

Furthermore, the DWI called on the labour unions to consider the long-term effects of their actions and engage in constructive dialogue with the government.

DWI emphasized that the strike action is a selfish and reckless move that will only serve to worsen Nigeria's economic situation. It urged all stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of the nation and engage in constructive dialogue to resolve the crisis.

PoliticsNorthern Elders Forum Decry Lawmakers' Decision To Abolish Five Emirates by Orabi(op): 6:53am On May 24, 2024
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), expressed profound concern and agitation over the recent events in Kano, where emirates have been multiplied and traditional rulers have been dethroned and replaced.

Director of Publicity and Advocacy of the forum, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, urged the Kano state government and politicians involved to exercise caution in handling this sensitive issue to prevent further escalation of tensions.

He said: “It is important for all parties involved to approach this matter with the utmost care and professionalism, keeping in mind the potential consequences of their actions. Rash decisions and inflammatory statements can only serve to worsen the situation and jeopardize the peace and stability of the state.

“We also call upon the public to remain calm and law-abiding in the face of this crisis. It is crucial that we do not engage in any actions that could potentially threaten the peace and security of the state. Violence and unrest will only serve to further divide us and hinder any chance of finding a peaceful resolution to the current situation.

“In times of crisis, it is imperative that we come together as a community and work towards finding common ground and mutual understanding. Let us all strive to prioritize peace and harmony, and avoid actions that could lead to further discord and conflict.”

NEF noted that the traditional institution in Nigeria has long been facing challenges and obstacles that have rendered it weak and ineffective, and the problem seems to be particularly acute in Kano.

Suleiman added, “The multiplication and duplicity of emirates in Kano is a clear attempt to weaken the traditional institution and undermine the authority of the traditional rulers. By creating multiple emirates, the power and influence of individual traditional rulers are diluted, making it easier for politicians to control and manipulate them.

“Furthermore, the arbitrary dethronement and replacement of high-ranking traditional rulers in Kano not only weaken the authority and legitimacy of traditional rulers but also send a message that their role and relevance in society are easily dispensable.

“This move is not only threatening the unity and cohesion of the traditional structure but also undermining the centuries-old customs, values, and traditions that have been the bedrock of Nigerian society. The perpetuation of these challenges is a reflection of the wider issue of the emasculation of traditional rulers in Nigeria.

“Over the years, traditional rulers have been systematically sidelined and disempowered by various administrative mechanisms and so-called "reforms" that have only served to weaken their influence and render their role ineffectual.”

The NEF called for the restoration of the statutory recognition of traditional rulers in the country and the provision of necessary resources and authority to empower them to fulfill their duties effectively.

“In order to address these challenges and reinvigorate the traditional institution in Nigeria, it is imperative that traditional rulers be re-empowered and given the recognition and support they deserve. This can only be achieved through a concerted effort to restore the statutory recognition of traditional rulers in the country and provide them with the necessary resources and authority to fulfill their duties effectively.

“Without the necessary empowerment and support, traditional rulers will continue to struggle to play a meaningful role in society, particularly in addressing pressing issues such as crime and drug abuse. Their marginalization not only diminishes their ability to effectively govern their domains but also leaves them vulnerable to political interference and manipulation.”
PoliticsArewa Youth Affirms Inec's Credibility Following Peter Obi's Comments by Orabi(op): 6:55pm On May 18, 2024
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), on Saturday, reiterated its unwavering trust in the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after recent comments made by presidential candidate Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

They emphasized the importance of strong institutions like INEC in ensuring the integrity of Nigeria's electoral process.

President General of the AYCF, Yerima Shettima, in a statement, highlighted the detrimental impact of the judiciary assuming the role of the sole arbiter in election matters.

The Forum reiterates its longstanding belief that INEC is a reputable institution that consistently upholds the principles of fairness, impartiality, and transparency in conducting elections. Peter Obi's acknowledgment that the judiciary, rather than INEC, poses the greatest challenge to Nigeria's democracy, further strengthens our conviction in the integrity of INEC.

Shettima said: “The AYCF has long maintained that INEC is a credible, impartial, and unbiased institution that consistently conducts credible elections. Peter Obi's remarks have vindicated our stance and affirmed that INEC is not the primary obstacle to democratic electoral practices in Nigeria.

“AYCF firmly believes that strong and independent institutions such as INEC are essential in preserving the democratic fabric of our nation. The Forum recognizes the critical role that INEC plays in upholding the will of the people through free, fair, and credible elections."

He commended the INEC for its dedication to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and safeguarding the democratic rights of Nigerian citizens.

He added, “It is our steadfast belief that any attempts to undermine the credibility of INEC or question its impartiality are detrimental to the progress of our democratic system.

“The AYCF stands firm in its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria's electoral system. We will continue to advocate for the independence and effectiveness of INEC in carrying out its constitutional mandate.

“Furthermore, the AYCF condemns any undue interference or overreach by the judiciary in electoral affairs. We believe that the judiciary's role in electoral matters should be limited to adjudicating legal disputes and upholding the rule of law, rather than assuming the primary responsibility for determining electoral outcomes. Such interference undermines the credibility and legitimacy of the electoral process and threatens the foundations of democracy in Nigeria.”

The AYCF calls on all stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and the media, to support and uphold the independence of INEC in conducting free, fair, and credible elections.

He urges Nigerians to remain vigilant and actively participate in the electoral process to safeguard the democratic principles upon which our nation is founded.
Politics2027: Unmasking A Brewing Northern Conspiracy Against Tinubu by Orabi(op): 1:27pm On May 16, 2024
By Dattijo Sani Rano PhD

The grand conspiracy from Northern Nigeria against the reemergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term that was hinted at by the President's loyal political allies in the region is gradually but surely coming into the open.

The recent open declaration by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) that the North would work against Tinubu in 2027 is a clear indication that there are powerful forces at work to undermine the President's second term chances and set the stage for a carefully orchestrated plot against him.

This bold and unequivocal statement by the NEF has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, as it reveals a clear intent to thwart Tinubu's ambitions. The fact that such a group has openly declared its opposition to Tinubu's bid speaks volumes about the deep-seated opposition and resistance he faces from outside and within his own political circles. It is further evidence that there are powerful forces at play who are determined to derail his political aspirations with a concerted effort to block his path to a second term.

The alignment of key players like the Kwankwaso camp and the Atiku Abubakar forces against him further highlights the depth of this conspiracy. The connivance of leaders from the North and the self-serving greed of those within the Presidential Villa are enabling this plot to take root and thrive.

The emergence of key figures such as Alhaji Danbilki Kwamanda and Prof Khalifa Dikwa, who have openly criticized Tinubu's administration and suggested Kashim Shettima as alternative candidate for the presidency, sheds light on the depth of the conspiracy. These individuals, along with the Kwankwaso camp and the Atiku Abubakar forces, are actively working to undermine Tinubu's drive and pave the way for their own agendas.

In the midst of this sinister plot, Alhaji Danbilki Kwamanda, along with other key figures such as Prof Khalifa Dikwa, have expressed their support for the North East Forum's position regarding the potential replacement of President Tinubu. Alhaji Danbilki Kwamanda, the arrowhead for the Northwestern plank of the plan, has even gone so far as to suggest Vice President Kashim Shettima as a likely preferred candidate.

This stance was further solidified by Prof Khalifa Dikwa, the Dean of Borno Elders Forum, who has raised false concerns about the perceived weaknesses and lopsided nature of President Tinubu's appointments. These individuals seem to be united in their belief that a change in leadership is necessary.

The insidious nature of this conspiracy is further exemplified by the awarding of a 147 billion naira contract to a Katsina opposition party strongman by a serving minister in the administration. This blatant display of betrayal and manipulation underscores the extent to which those within President Tinubu's inner circle are willing to go to advance their own interests at the expense of the nation.

It is clear that President Tinubu is facing a formidable challenge from within his own ranks. The power struggle and backstabbing taking place behind the scenes threaten to derail his administration and undermine his legacy.

He must take immediate action to counteract the machinations of those seeking to undermine his aspiration. He must surround himself and listen to loyal and competent friends like the former Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje who have lots of useful insight to share.

It is time for Tinubu to identify and remove the Judases within his camp, and forge ahead with a team of individuals that is dedicated to upholding the values of justice and honest enterprise.

It is imperative that President Tinubu takes swift and decisive action to counteract these malicious maneuvers. The recent award of a 140 billion naira contract to an opposition member by a serving minister is a glaring example of the subversion taking place within his own administration.

The warning signals from high-ranking northern appointees in the Tinubu administration must therefore not be ignored. The President must heed the advice of his remaining two vigorous supporters and allies before it is too late. The time for complacency is over; President Tinubu must act decisively to protect his presidency and ensure the continued progress and prosperity of the nation.

Tinubu should be aware of the challenges he is facing from an emerging opposition that aims to weaken his support base in the northern region of the country. Already, several of his loyal friends and partners, such as Nasir Elrufai, Yahaya Bello, and Aminu Bello Masari, have been marginalized through the opposition's manipulative tactics.

The only two allies left standing, Ganduje and Matawalle, are also under constant attack and defamation, with the ultimate goal of eroding Tinubu’s influence in the north. This concerted effort to dismantle Tinubu's support base is a clear indication of the threat posed by this emerging opposition.

Tinubu must take note of these developments and take necessary steps to safeguard his political interests in the northern region. It is imperative that he strengthens his alliances, engages in strategic planning, and remains vigilant against any attempts to undermine his position.

It is time to rise to the occasion, take control of the narrative, and assert his authority over those seeking to undermine him. The success of his administration and the future of the nation depend on his ability to navigate these treacherous waters and emerge victorious against the forces seeking to derail his leadership and future chances.

Only by remaining vigilant and steadfast in the face of adversity can he secure his place in history as a leader who stood firm against the forces of division and discord.

PoliticsMinimum Wage Review: Labour Veterans Condemns Low Payment Of Civil Servants by Orabi(op): 7:20pm On May 14, 2024
The Labour Veterans and Trade Unionists Assembly, expressed concerns over the ongoing negotiations for the upward review of the National Minimum Wage by the Federal Government of Nigeria, condemning low payments of civil servants.

They have also called on state governors to be committed to the review of the minimum wage and to stop arbitrary deductions from workers' salaries.

The group’s concern was contained in a statement signed by the National Interim Chairman, Comrade Isa Tijjani, said there is need for the government to Ensure that all entitled workers are paid the prevailing agreed amount even before the new Minimum Wage comes into effect.

While thanking the Tinubu administration for this labor-friendly gesture, the group has urged labor leaders and the working class to pay adequate and special attention to the holistic and complete implementation of any agreements reached with the government at the end of the negotiation.

Tijjani said: “This has become necessary, in view of the current difficulty being experienced by workers nationwide as a result of the blatant refusal of many governors to implement and pay workers the agreed rate.

“In particular, we would like to highlight the case of Borno State, where we generally regarded His Excellency, Professor Zulum, and the Executive Governor as a performer, only to realize that Workers are being unfairly treated in the state.

“It pains us to admit that, we now have it on clear record, that, in Borno state, workers in most of the local governments throughout the state, are presently being paid N6000 to N8000 only, as minimum wage. This is not only despicable, but an open case of inhuman slavery in the 21st century.”

He called on the Governor of Borno State to ensure that all entitled workers are paid the prevailing agreed amount even before the new Minimum Wage comes into effect and to stop all forms of arbitrary deductions.

The Labour Veterans and Trade Unionists Assembly have emphasized the importance for labor leaders and their members to successfully tackle the issue of full wage agreements implementation across the board before the new National Minimum Wage regime comes into law.
PoliticsNorthern Elders Forum Kicks Against Cbn’s Cybersecurity Levy by Orabi(op): 1:40pm On May 09, 2024
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), strongly condemned the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) recent decision to impose a cybersecurity levy on bank customers.

The forum emphasized the need for a more balanced approach that ensures the costs of security measures are reasonable and do not excessively burden bank customers.

NEF's Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, in a statement, expressed its dissatisfaction with the policy, citing the escalating costs associated with banking transactions as a result of multiple charges.

The NEF criticized the CBN's directive as arbitrary, illegal, and out of touch with the realities faced by Nigerians. The forum called on the government to reconsider the policy and explore alternative measures to ease the financial strain on individuals while still promoting the use of electronic payments.

The NEF pointed out that the introduction of cybersecurity levies, in addition to existing fees such as stamp duty, transfer fees, value-added tax, and SMS charges, has placed an unbearable financial burden on individuals engaging in electronic transactions.

The forum highlighted the various charges that bank customers now face, including cybersecurity levies ranging from ₦5 on ₦1,000 to ₦50,000 on ₦10,000,000 transactions, transfer fees, stamp duty, and value-added tax. These additional costs have significantly increased the overall expense of electronic transactions for both senders and receivers.

The NEF said in a country already grappling with economic challenges and hyperinflammatory conditions, the additional financial burden imposed by the cybersecurity levy is unjust and unfair and urged the government and relevant stakeholders to find a sustainable solution that strikes a fair balance between enhancing cybersecurity and alleviating the financial strain on the Nigerian populace.

He said: “It is imperative that the administration takes into account the concerns raised by a vast majority of Nigerians and prioritizes policies that protect the interests of the people while also fostering economic growth and development."

The forum's stance highlights the importance of considering the impact of regulations on ordinary citizens and advocating for measures that promote financial inclusion and alleviate economic challenges.

Suleiman added, “It is crucial that the government listens to the concerns of organizations like the NEF and works towards implementing policies that benefit all Nigerians, rather than burdening them with additional costs and hardships.

“It is essential to strike a delicate balance between enhancing cybersecurity and easing the financial burden on the populace, particularly at a time when the Nigerian economy is facing significant challenges due to inflation and other economic factors.”

The NEF urges the authorities and relevant stakeholders to engage in meaningful review and find a solution that addresses the legitimate concerns raised by the public regarding the cybersecurity levy.

PoliticsOil Theft: Overhaul Naval High Command, Ohanaeze Youths Urge Tinubu by Orabi(op): 7:13am On May 08, 2024
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has called on President Bola Tinubu to overhaul the Naval high command in response to the ongoing issue of oil theft.

The youths felt that the call became necessary in view of endless allegations of oil theft in the Niger Delta region despite the huge presence of naval officials.

The National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, in a statement, said that there were disturbing allegations of high caliber oil theft still ongoing in the Niger Delta region.

Okwu, said that only a few days ago, there were allegations that on 3rd of May, 2024, MT Montagu went alongside MT Prestigious and discharged 104,4033 BBL of crude. The crude was loaded from MT Byranston Stationed at Newcross Facility SAN Barth OML 24 Marginal oil field.

He said: “MT Montagu only discharged MT Prestigious and did not take away any product from her. The ship was arrested by private security and it was released by the naval officials who said they were acting on orders from above, after a series of agitation by stakeholders.

“Even when there was a counter order that the ship be re-arrested, the navy officials allowed another Tank vessel to either evacuate the exhibit or dilute it, in the name of taking samples, which ideally should be taken in a small bottle for lab test. What was the vessel doing there as shown in one of the pictures.”

Okwu, who said it appeared the naval officials were sabotaging the Federal Government’s efforts to ramp up oil production, said the avowed promise by President Tinubu rid the country of corruption must be demonstrated through the immediate overhaul of the naval high command.

While re-calling the group’s support to President Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, he said Nigerians were going through excruciating pains whereas a few individuals were living in opulence.

He added, “we are alarmed, like many other Nigerians, over what is going on in the Niger Delta region. We stand for zero tolerance for corruption and support for the growth of the economy and total support for the Tinubu-led Federal Government’s anti-corruption fight.

“Based on the allegations we have sighted as narrated, we call for the sack of the Naval hierarchy, starting from the Chief of Naval Staff under whose watch the officials have been unable to tame oil thieves.

“However, we urge Mr President to appoint another Igbo man as his replacement. This is the only way to restore sanity to the oil production chains.”
PoliticsKaduna Before, During And After El'rufai by Orabi(op): 8:35am On May 07, 2024
By Sulaiman Abdul

Before Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai became governor, Kaduna State enjoyed a sense of peace and unity among its various communities. The people had learned to live together, respecting each other's rights and boundaries.

Kaduna State has a long history of peaceful coexistence among its various communities, from the highlands of Makarfi to the plains of Kagoro. The farmers and herdsmen lived side by side, sharing the land and its treasures. While disputes over land have occurred in the past, the communities have managed to live together and prosper, showcasing their ability to accommodate differences and maintain harmony.

However, during El-Rufai's tenure as governor, the state faced increased conflicts and tensions among different groups. During Elrufa's tenure, longstanding misunderstandings that were ordinarily resolved at the community level were manipulated and escalated into violent conflicts fueled by tribal and religious jealousies. These conflicts have resulted in heavy loss of lives and valuable resources, creating a climate of fear and unrest in the state.

One of the main issues that has been exacerbated under Elrufai's leadership is the age-old clash between herdsmen and farmers. This conflict, which has been a recurring problem for centuries, has escalated into deadly confrontations resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property.

The current state of killings and unrest in the region cannot be viewed as isolated incidents, but rather as part of a larger agenda of misgovernance that has divided communities along ethnic and religious lines. Elrufai's administration has exploited internal weaknesses and cleavages in society, perpetuating a cycle of violence and discord.

El-Rufai's eight-year tenure was marked by division, weakness, and confusion within the state. His policies exploited ethnic and religious differences, leading to a grand misgovernance that fueled the current spate of killings and unrest. It is clear that Kaduna State needs a more inclusive and proactive approach to address the challenges it faces and restore the peace and unity that once defined the state.

Allegations of human rights abuses, unguarded public utterances, and a flood of petitions have characterized the political career of Nasir El-Rufai, particularly during his eight-year tenure as the governor of Kaduna State. These issues have raised significant concerns both within Nigeria and internationally, highlighting the controversial nature of his leadership style and decision-making.

One of the key issues surrounding El-Rufai's tenure is the broad and specific allegations of human rights abuses. Perhaps the most prominent case is the killing of over 300 followers of the Shiite leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, in Zaria, Kaduna State, in 2015. Instead of holding the military accountable for the massacre, the El-Rufai-led government chose to prosecute El-Zakzaky and his wife, leading to a lengthy and controversial legal process that ultimately ended in dismissal by the Kaduna State High Court in July 2021. This case has brought El-Rufai under intense scrutiny from both domestic and international human rights bodies, with investigations ongoing at the International Criminal Court and the United Nations.

Furthermore, El-Rufai's tenure was marked by arbitrary arrests of political enemies, seizure of properties, and wanton demolition of perceived opponents' properties. Reports of extrajudicial killings and the use of force and intimidation to suppress protests have further tarnished his human rights record. Some court cases against him have alleged embezzlement of public funds and abuse of trust, involving cronies, allies, and family members for corrupt purposes during his time as head of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and governor of Kaduna State.

In addition to human rights abuses, El-Rufai's unguarded public utterances have also generated controversy and backlash. He has made divisive statements that inflamed mistrust among citizens, particularly between Muslims and Christians in Kaduna State. His comment about Muslims ruling Kaduna for a long period while doing justice to Christians was widely criticized for its potential to stoke religious and ethnic tensions, leading to bloody clashes. The derogatory remarks he made towards political adversaries and respected groups like the Northern Elders Forum have further solidified his reputation for making inflammatory comments.

Moreover, a flood of petitions and legal challenges have followed El-Rufai throughout his political career. His nomination as a ministerial candidate attracted widespread rejections and petitions, leading to protests during the screening exercise at the National Assembly. Several pending cases in Nigerian and international courts, including the ECOWAS and the ICC, highlight the extent of the legal challenges facing El-Rufai. Allegations of genocide, crimes against humanity, and corruption have been leveled against him, reflecting the depths of public distrust and dissatisfaction with his leadership.

The tenure of Governor Elrufai in Kaduna State will be remembered as a dark period in the history of the state. The administration, characterized by a lack of transparency, accountability, and empathy, left a trail of suffering and despair in its wake. As Elrufai's eight-year reign came to an end, the people of Kaduna State were left grappling with the harsh realities of hunger, inflation, job losses, and a deteriorating healthcare system.

The 2023 elections marked a turning point for the state, as voters overwhelmingly chose a new vision for the future. Senator Uba Sani emerged as the people's choice to lead Kaduna State out of its current predicament and towards a brighter tomorrow. The jubilations that followed the election were not just about a change in leadership, but about the hope and possibility of a better future for all residents of the state.

Governor Uba Sani faces a daunting task ahead, as he must navigate the challenges left behind by his predecessor and chart a new course for the state. It is imperative that he surround himself with a team of competent and compassionate individuals who share his vision for a prosperous and united Kaduna State. The mention of leaders like Honorable Sani Mohammed Shaaban, with his impeccable credentials and commitment to the welfare of the people, highlights the importance of selecting the right individuals to support the governor in his quest for positive change.

Shaaban is a passionate believer in the organic links between generations, particularly when it comes to mentorship in northern Nigeria. At a very young age, he had the privilege of being exposed to political masters such as Ibrahim Tahir, Umaru Dikko, Joseph Tarka, and Aminu Kano. These individuals are living history and embodiments of all the exemplary qualities that young Northerners should strive to achieve.

Mentorship is a crucial aspect of personal and professional growth, and Shaaban understands the importance of learning from those who have come before him. The political masters he was fortunate enough to be mentored by not only imparted knowledge and wisdom but also instilled in him a sense of responsibility and dedication to serving his community and country.

Ibrahim Tahir, Umaru Dikko, Joseph Tarka, and Aminu Kano are all respected figures in northern Nigeria, known for their leadership, integrity, and commitment to social change. Shaaban sees them as role models and strives to follow in their footsteps by upholding the values they stood for.

In a society where traditional values and customs play a significant role, mentorship from esteemed individuals like Ibrahim Tahir, Umaru Dikko, Joseph Tarka, and Aminu Kano is invaluable. These mentors not only provide guidance and support but also serve as a living example of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and a commitment to serving others.

Shaaban's belief in the organic links between generations is a testament to the power of mentorship and the importance of learning from those who have come before us. Thanks to the guidance and guardianship he received from northern political masters, Shaaban is well-equipped to carry on their legacy and make a positive impact in his community and beyond.

Umaru Dikko, known for his iron will and determination, inspired many with his unwavering commitment to his principles. Shaaban has been Dikko's close tutelage since his school days in the United Kingdom and shares this steadfastness and commitment to his goals, demonstrating a resilience that mirrors that of Dikko.

Dr. Ibrahim Tahir, with his political sagacity, paved the way for future leaders like Shaaban whom he guided and mentored rigorously in the days of the second republic National Party of Nigeria (NPN). His intellect and foresight in navigating the complexities of Nigerian politics set a standard for Shaaban. As such, Shaaban exemplifies a similar level of acumen and strategic thinking in his own political endeavors.

Aminu Kano, a political maverick dedicated to social justice, has influenced Shaaban in his quest for a fair and equitable society. Shaaban's dedication to the people and his passion for uplifting the marginalized echo the ideals that Kano championed during his lifetime.

Tarka, renowned for his courage and boldness, serves as a role model for Shaaban with whom he served as the national youth leader of the NPN. Shaaban's fearless approach to tackling tough issues reflects the same courage that Tarka exhibited during his political career.

Shehu Shagari's impetus and vision for a prosperous Nigeria continue to inspire leaders like Shaaban. Shaaban shares Shagari's commitment to national unity and economic development, striving to build a better future for all Nigerians.

It is difficult in this age and time for any political in Kaduna State to compare with Shaaban who carries the legacy of these esteemed leaders with grace and determination.

His leadership, sacrifice, and dedication to the common people make him an invaluable asset to any government seeking to improve the lives of its citizens and to the North generally. In a diverse state like Kaduna, leaders like Shaaban who have enjoyed such rare opportunity for training by masters of the northern power play are crucial in bridging divides and fostering unity among all communities.

Shaaban's inspiring presence and untiring efforts to serve the interests of the people of Kaduna State should be appreciated by all. Governor Uba Sani must heed the calls of the people for competent and compassionate individuals like Shaaban to support him in his mission to transform Kaduna State.

With leaders like Sani Shaaban by his side, Governor Uba Sani can guide the state towards prosperity and unity. The people of Kaduna deserve a government that works for their benefit and well-being, and with Shaaban's leadership, a brighter tomorrow is possible for all residents of the state. It is time for a new era of governance that prioritizes the well-being and prosperity of all.

PoliticsArewa Group Backs Calls For Kwankwaso's Probe by Orabi(op): 4:12pm On May 06, 2024
The Awareness Network (NAN), has expressed support for the New Nigerian People's Party's call for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for alleged anti-party conduct and misappropriation of party campaign funds totaling 2.5 billion naira.

The Chairman of NAN, Salihu Suleima, emphasized the seriousness of the allegations against Senator Kwankwaso, stating that they are not only revealing and embarrassing but also pose a threat to the integrity of political leaders in northern Nigeria.

Suleima highlighted the need for a thorough investigation into the matter, as it undermines the principles of good governance and accountability within the political landscape.

“The petition submitted to the EFCC by the National Secretary of the NMPP, Ogini, outlines various accusations against Senator Kwankwaso, including the non-payment of party polling agents and the embezzlement of funds from the sale of party nomination forms. Such allegations, if proven true, could tarnish not only the reputation of Senator Kwankwaso but also that of the northern leadership tradition as a whole,” the group warned.

The statement issued by NAN also condemned what it described as Senator Kwankwaso's arrogance and sense of self-importance, which it believes have led him to engage in activities that are detrimental to the party and its members.

The group called for accountability and transparency in political leadership, stressing that no individual, regardless of their stature, should be above the law.

NAN calls on the EFCC to thoroughly investigate the allegations against Senator Kwankwaso and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law. The group urges all political leaders to act with integrity and transparency in order to rebuild public trust and confidence in the political process.

“As an organization dedicated to upholding transparency and accountability in our political landscape, we believe that the allegations brought forth in the petition are of utmost importance and must be thoroughly investigated. The amount in question, totaling 2.5 billion naira, is significant and demands a swift and thorough response from the appropriate authorities.

“Such actions not only reflect poorly on the integrity of political leaders in northern Nigeria but also undermine the trust and confidence of the public in our democratic processes.

“It is disheartening to see a prominent figure like Senator Kwankwaso, who holds a position of influence and responsibility, engage in actions that are not only unethical but potentially criminal. The seriousness of these allegations cannot be overstated, and we urge the EFCC to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.”

We call on all stakeholders in the political arena to support the efforts of the NMPP and the EFCC in carrying out a comprehensive investigation into these allegations. We must ensure that those who betray the trust of the public and engage in corrupt practices are held to the highest standards of accountability and face the full consequences of their actions.

“The NAN stands firm in its commitment to promoting transparency, integrity, and ethical behavior in our political system. We believe that only through upholding these principles can we build a truly just and equitable society for all Nigerians," Suleiman said.

The recent protests against the Minister of Defece State, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has been described by the Northern Stakeholders Consultative Forum as a tactic employed by the anti-Tinubu forces, which include figures such as Governor Dauda Lawal, Senator Kabiru Marafa, and Sani Jaji.

Secretary General of NSCF, Comrade Daniel Yakubu, asserted in a statement that these individuals are restless as a result of the increasing political influence of Governor Matawalle in the North and across Nigeria.

According to Comrade Yakubu, the protests are not a spontaneous grassroots movement but rather a calculated move by figures such as Governor Dauda Lawal, Senator Kabiru Marafa, and Sani Jaji who are feeling threatened by the increasing political influence of Governor Matawalle.

These individuals, described as part of the anti-Tinubu forces, are attempting to undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's chances of reelection in 2027.

The NSCF emphasized that the protests are a desperate tactic employed by those afraid of losing their grip on power and in the face of Matawalle's rising prominence, saying, the intense rivalry and power struggles within the political arena are indicative of the high stakes involved in the upcoming political landscape, where alliances shift and rivalries intensify.

Comrade Yakubu underscored the need for vigilance and discernment on the part of President Tinubu in navigating the complex and cutthroat nature of the emerging politics in the North, particularly in light of Governor Lawal and his team's efforts to suppress his chances by targeting his loyal support base in the North.

“It is clear that there is a power struggle at play here, with a desperate faction vying for dominance in parts of Northern Nigeria by pursuing an agenda to undermine the chances of reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.”

Comrade Yakubu asserted that the protests are merely a part of the antics of the anti-Tinubu forces which highlights the complex and murky nature of Nigerian politics.

“Matawalle's rising influence is undoubtedly a cause for concern for those who have traditionally held sway in the political arena which is vented through the restless actions of Lawal, Marafa, and Jaji can be seen as a desperate attempt to maintain their grip on power and influence.

“The fact that these anti-Tinubu forces are resorting to such tactics indicates the significance of Bello Matawalle's political influence and the threat he poses to their own aspirations. It also underscores the high stakes involved in the coming 2027 politics, where alliances shift and rivalries intensify as politicians jockey for power and influence.

PoliticsNorthern Awareness Network Demands Swift Action Against Sponsored Protests by Orabi(op): 6:11pm On May 03, 2024
The Northern Awareness Network (NAN), on called upon the All Progressives Congress (APC) to take immediate action to address the rising number of sponsored protests aimed at tarnishing the party's image and President Bola Tinubu.

The Chairman of NAN, Salihu Suleiman, in a statement, condemned the orchestrated protest that originated from Zamfara State as a prime example of this alarming practice.

NAN firmly believes that the protest, which sought to undermine President Bola Tinubu and his loyal allies, was not an authentic expression of discontent but a calculated effort to sabotage the administration and create discord within the ruling party.

The NAN has expressed deep concern over the troubling trend of financing unruly crowds to engage in misconduct under the guise of protest, which serves hidden agendas rather than genuine grievances.

He said: “The deliberate targeting of Minister of State Defence Bello Matawalle, a dedicated supporter of President Tinubu, clearly demonstrates that this protest was driven by political motives, seeking to sow division and discord within the ruling party.

“The use of the APC's name as a platform for such misconduct is unacceptable and demands swift and decisive action.”

While protests play a vital role in any democratic society, the NAN emphasizes that when these protests are hijacked by external forces with ulterior motives, they lose their legitimacy and become tools for manipulation and deception. It is crucial for the leaders of the APC to take a firm stance against sponsored dissent and ensure that the party remains a symbol of integrity and transparency.

The NAN calls for the sponsors of such protests to be exposed and appropriately sanctioned, as this is a necessary step in rooting out this insidious practice, adding that, “Those who seek to manipulate public opinion for personal gain must be held accountable for their actions, and the APC leadership must demonstrate that they will not tolerate such behavior within their ranks.

“Sponsored dissent represents a dangerous trend that threatens the integrity of the political system and undermines the trust of the people in their leaders.

“The APC must heed the call of the Northern Awareness Network and take decisive action to address and eradicate this practice. By standing firm against manipulation and deceit, the party can uphold its commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring that Nigeria's democracy remains strong and vibrant.”

The conference, with the theme “Building to Address the Evolving Threat of Terrorism in Africa,” gathered various stakeholders, to deliberate on the root causes of the security challenges faced by the region.

Charanchi expressed their conviction that the government has a deep understanding of the underlying factors contributing to the security problems, such as an ineffective justice system, poor land administration policies, the presence of non-state armed groups, ungoverned spaces, porous borders, and the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.

The group highlighted the challenges posed by a large youth population lacking in education and skill sets, as well as a governance system that fails to meet the developmental needs of the people.

“In light of this development, we reject the attempt to humiliate our amiable leader, Yahaya Bello, and demand that the EFCC withdraw immediately and unconditionally the tag declaring him wanted.”

Its recall is that the embattled former governor has been placed on the watch list of the Nigerian Immigration Service, while all police officers attached to him have been withdrawn by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Eneji called on other North Central governors' forums to show support for Bello, emphasizing that the media campaign against Governor Ododo propagated by the Yoruba arrangement should come to an end.

Eneji added, “Indeed, the plot to declare Yahaya Bello wanted without vacating the order from a court of competent jurisdiction smacks of authoritarianism and portends grave danger to our democracy.

“We will, therefore, resist by any legitimate means necessary any attempt to establish Odùa hegemony in the North Central region.

“If Yahaya Bello is further humiliated and hounded by the Federal Government, we will stage a mega protest that will reverberate around the country. If the President occupies Aso Rock Villa, we will occupy Eagle Square.

“If the Attorney General occupies the courtrooms, we will take over Abuja City Gate. If the IGP occupies the Louis Edet House, we will occupy Eagle Square, and if they occupy the borders with immigration, we will occupy the streets of Abuja and Nigeria.

“We say no to ethnic suppression. We say no to this Yoruba arrangement. We say no to persecution and miscarriage of justice!”

PoliticsNorthern Group Accuses Hakeem Baba Ahmed Of Undermining President Tinubu's Gover by Orabi(op): 1:30pm On Apr 21, 2024
The Northern Stakeholders Consultative Forum (NSCF) has made bold accusations against Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed, claiming that he has been operating as a mole within the office of the Vice President with the intention of undermining the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued by the NSCF spokesperson, Comrade Daniel Yakubu, it was alleged that Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed has a history of working for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in opposition to the ideals of Tinubu.

The group challenged Dr. Baba Ahmed to openly voice his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prove his loyalty to the governing party.

The NSCF further described Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed as an ungrateful, disloyal, and unreliable team player, casting doubt on his integrity within the government he serves. The group called upon Dr. Baba Ahmed to take action to demonstrate his commitment to the APC and clarify his position within the political landscape.

The NSCF demands an immediate investigation into Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed's activities within the Vice President's office to ascertain if he is indeed working against the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Yakubu said: “President Tinubu must remain vigilant and cautious in his dealings with individuals who have a history of working against his interests. It is important for him to remember that Hakeem Baba-Ahmed was actively involved in the Peoples Democratic Party and has worked against his 2023 election victory.

“As such, Tinubu must not be deceived by the tactics of these individuals who are indirectly working to undermine his prospects for the 2027 election under the guise of fighting against Matawalle.

“Furthermore, it is worth noting that a business woman Saadatu Ramalan-Yaro who happens to be the daughter of the chairman of the APC Akida, Tijjani Ramalan has been implicated in the pillage of the nation's resources under Godwin Emefiele.

“She is facing charges of money laundering amounting to over N140 billion. This makes Ramalan himself liable for arrest and prosecution as an active accomplice in these illegal activities. President Tinubu must take this information into consideration when making decisions regarding the individuals pretending to be his friends.”

The group urged the APC leadership to take swift action against any government appointee found guilty of sabotaging the party's efforts towards achieving its goals.

NSCF also called on Northern leaders to be vigilant and watchful of individuals who may be working against the interests of the region, particularly those with a history for double standards.

He added, “It is vital for President Tinubu to exercise caution and discernment in his dealings with individuals who may have ulterior motives. By remaining vigilant and informed, he can protect his interests and ensure the success of his upcoming election campaigns.

“The organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his government in their efforts towards building a better Nigeria for all citizens.”
BusinessCNG Frowns Over High Prices Of Goods Amidst Naira Appreciation, Call For Sales O by Orabi(op): 2:33pm On Apr 20, 2024
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), expresses its deep concern over the unjustified prices of goods and services in the market despite the recent crash of the US dollar against the naira.

The CNG views this as an exploitation of the Nigerians and a blatant disregard for the economic realities of the country by unpatriotic business entities.

CNG, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, said subjecting Nigerians to high prices of commodities amid the present strength of the naira was not only uncalled for but unpatriotic.

The CNG observed that naira has recorded a significant appreciation against the US dollar, with the exchange rate currently between N900 – N1,000 to a dollar, down from N1,900 to a dollar in recent months. Regrettably, businesses have maintained their fleecing of Nigerians by refusing to adjust the prices to reflect the current market reality despite the recent appreciable gain by naira.

The CNG strongly condemns this unpatriotic act by businesses, which is causing untold hardship to Nigerians, particularly the vulnerable and low-income earners; describing it as totally unacceptable.

The CNG calls on the Federal Government to devise means to ensure that businesses comply with the current exchange rate and adjust their prices accordingly for the benefit of Nigerians.

On this note, the CNG wishes to commend the efforts of the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and other relevant agencies for their efforts to stabilize the naira. The CNG notes that the recent measures taken by the NSA and CBN to strengthen the naira have been successful, leading to a significant reduction in the dollar exchange rate.

The CNG, therefore, calls for sustainability of the measures to ensure stability of the naira that would culminate in stronger naira of below N500 to a dollar in the nearest future.

Furthermore, the CNG reiterates its call on President Bola Tinubu to wholly support Office of the NSA and the CBN to decisively deal with any economic saboteurs who are try to derail the successes recorded for their selfish end to the detriment of Nigerians.

In the same vein, the CNG warmly welcomes Dangote’s diesel price adjustment that slashed about 60% to reflect current rebound value of naira, describing it commendable gesture that is worthy of emulation by other businesses in Nigeria.

Thus, the CNG appeals to the government to consider selling crude oil to the Dangote Refinery and any other interested local refiner in naira as doing so would make fuel more affordable to Nigerians thereby breaking away from dollar-dependent value.

The CNG believes that selling crude oil to the Dangote Refinery in naira will not only help reduce price of fuel in the country but will also be immensely beneficial to the Nigeria economy as a practical solution that will have a positive impact on the lives of millions of Nigerians.

The CNG also regrets that some state governors are allegedly diverting public funds to engage in forex business, which has led to the strengthening of the US dollar against the naira with attendant negative consequences on the masses.

The CNG reminds such governors that public funds allocated to them to provide for critical needs of their people such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure are a trust that must be accounted for before a man or before the Almighty God.

At this juncture, the CNG commends Nigeria for prosecuting Binance officials to face justice for tax evasion and other crimes to the Nigerian economy while calling for collaboration with the Interpol in ensuring that the official who escaped from Nigeria is repatriated to face justice in the country.

It is soothing to note that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) recently noted that it would likely reimburse excess funds pilgrims who have made payments when dollar prices were high due to appreciation of naira.

The CNG, to this end, applauds a few businesses that have adjusted their prices downward to go in tandem with the current value of naira that is steadily appreciating.
PoliticsControversial Figure Tinuade Sanda Under Scrutiny For Postgraduate Degree Fraud by Orabi(op): 5:07pm On Apr 19, 2024
By Dr. Kunle Femi Okuniyi

The corporate world has been rocked by the recent saga surrounding Tinuade Sanda, the former Managing Director and CEO of a major electricity company in southwestern Nigeria. Now, her credentials and qualifications are under intense scrutiny, with serious questions arising about the validity of her claimed postgraduate degrees from foreign universities.

Sanda, who joined the electricity firm in 2013, previously claimed to have headed the Finance and Administration department at Vanguard Energy Resources, a non-operational oil and gas trading company founded by her ex-husband.

In addition to her corporate position, Sanda is also the founder of EmHERging, a mentoring platform for young female professionals. However, doubts have been raised about her educational background. Sanda claims on her resume and LinkedIn profile that she obtained an MBA specializing in Strategic Planning from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. However, investigations have revealed that the university does not offer any MBA program in Strategic Planning.

Furthermore, Sanda asserts that she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Applied Sciences ("BASc") from Harvard Business School. This is highly questionable, as Harvard Business School does not award undergraduate degrees.

Most concerning is her alleged Doctor of Philosophy in Financial Management and Entrepreneurship, supposedly awarded by ICON University in the Republic of Benin on December 5th, 2020. ICON University claims recognition by a non-existent "Nigeria’s Ministry of Higher Education," bringing the authenticity of the degree into doubt.

These revelations cast a dark shadow over Sanda's corporate rise, as she reached the pinnacle of one of Nigeria's largest electricity distribution companies based on these potentially dubious qualifications. This raises serious questions about the thoroughness of the vetting and due diligence conducted on her credentials by those responsible for her appointment.

Even more alarming is Sanda's affiliation with ICON University, a reputed provider of fake academic credentials. The university's website raises credibility concerns due to poor grammar and inflated claims comparing itself to Ivy League institutions.

The audacity with which Sanda flaunts these qualifications on her CV and LinkedIn profile raises significant doubts about her character and personal integrity.

Adding to the controversy, a November 2nd, 2022 letter from Nigeria's Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to the electricity distribution company raised concerns about Sanda's lack of technical capacity, administrative competence, and emotional maturity to run the company's affairs.

If Sanda's claims regarding her educational certificates are proven false, it paints a vivid picture of an individual desperate to acquire corporate status by any means, including lying and forgery.

In light of the unfolding scandal, it is essential for Sanda to disclose the true nature of her educational qualifications, not just to salvage her corporate reputation but also to maintain integrity as a mentor to young aspiring girls.

While proclaiming to have shattered the corporate glass ceiling through hard work, intellect, and integrity, Sanda's questionable qualifications and attempt to discredit institutions like Harvard Business School tarnishes the class she claims to represent. Individuals like her should never be allowed near reputable organizations that value talent and quality.

The scandal raises fundamental questions about regulatory oversight and corporate governance, which enabled Sanda's ascent despite the apparent inauthenticity of her credentials.

To uphold standards and integrity in executive appointments, stronger verification mechanisms must be implemented to promote merit while preventing fraudsters from undermining institutional reputation.

The unfolding saga surrounding Tinuade Sanda serves as a cautionary tale, underscoring the significance of ethical conduct, honesty, and accountability in corporate leadership. As the dust settles on her tenure at the electricity company, this episode should prompt a broader reflection on the integrity and credibility expected from individuals entrusted with critical roles in the business landscape.

PoliticsNEF Condemns Attacks On Northerners In Southern Nigeria, Dismissed Discussion On by Orabi(op): 12:46am On Apr 18, 2024
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has observed with concern that in the last
three months, some criminals have stepped up harassments and attacks on
northerners moving about their legitimate businesses in southern Nigeria
particularly in the South East.

Salisu Mohammed, Deputy Director General II of NEF, in a statement, condemned these acts of provocation in totality against innocent citizens who chose to do their activities in that part of the country.

The NEF calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and relevant security agencies to
rise to the occasion and contain these criminals not to allow them to subvert and
undermine national cohesion and togetherness.

The NEF made the call in reaction to a widely circulated video on social media
where suspected militias of Eastern Security Network (ESN) killed hundreds of
cattle that belong to northerners. The despicable and condemnable act was
recorded and circulated across social media platforms.

Lamenting the brazing act by elements bent on testing the elasticity of the country's diversity and unity, the NEF described such act as sabotage against efforts to strengthen the bond of Nigerians. While exploring every part of the country to live in unity, peace and harmony in order to achieve the shared aspirations across the country.

In the same vein, the attention of NEF has been drawn to a statement credited
to the Forum by media - that the North regrets voting for President Bola Tinubu.
NEF wishes to distance itself from the statement as it did not emanate from the
Forum as it is the opinion of the person in his personal capacity and not that of
NEF.

Thus, the statement credited to NEF does not reflect the position of the Forum
as it has never sat and assessed performance or non-performance of Tinubu administration.

Similarly, NEF has never discussed, in any time, the politics of 2027 nor has it
deliberated on who to support or not to support on such issues.

The NEF considers it too early to be engaged in such distractions when NEF, like most Nigerians, are demanding good governance and dividends of democracy.

NEF, for now prefers to, focus on advocating for what improves the northern
region and Nigeria as a whole.

In conclusion, the NEF charges leaders to always verify and authenticate
information and treat issues within their specific contexts before making public
pronouncement.

Onilu made the call in an Eid-el Fitri felicitation message to the Muslim faithful at the end of the month of Ramadan, stressing that the lessons of the holy month, if imbibed, will ensure peaceful coexistence, Patriotism and national development in Nigeria.

NOA, in a statement by his Deputy Director of Press, Paul Odenyi, said that Eid-el Fitri is an opportunity to demonstrate and entrench the virtues of patience, self-control, and sobriety taught by Ramadan, pointing out that “Ramadan is a month-long religious obligation with far longer social and national benefits”.

The NOA boss said Nigerians, more than ever before, need to show patriotism , love and affection toward others as Eid-el Fitri demands, adding that such would avert anarchy and guarantee sustainable development in the country.

While wishing the Muslim Umma a rewarding Eid-el Fitri, the NOA Director General also urged the Ummah to remain true to their civic responsibilities and maintain support for the government towards fulfilling its obligations.
BusinessNEF Frowns At Reverend Pam's Removal From NCPC by Orabi(op): 1:46pm On Apr 06, 2024
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), is deeply troubled by the recent removal of Rev. Yakubu Pam from his position as Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrimage Commission (NCPC).

The sudden and unjustified nature of this decision has raised serious concerns within the Northern Christian and Muslim communities.

The forum, in a statement by its Director of Publicity and Advocacy/Spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said that Rev. Pam, who has diligently served in this role for the past three years, was removed from his position without following due process.

NEF is particularly alarmed by the lack of transparency and accountability in this decision, as Reverend Pam was not allowed to complete his tenure.

He said: “The manner in which Reverend Pam was treated by his replacement is also troubling. Reports suggest that his belongings were callously thrown out of the office, causing him humiliation and disrespect. NEF condemns this behavior and demands that Reverend Pam be treated with the dignity and respect he deserves.

“NEF questions the decision to appoint someone from Lagos to replace Reverend Pam, the only top position given to the Northern Christian community. This raises concerns about the representation of Northern Christians in key leadership positions within the government.”

NEF is calling for a review of the decision to remove Reverend Pam and is advocating for his reinstatement to complete his statutory four-year tenure.

The Forum also demands a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his removal, to ensure transparency and accountability in NCPC leadership.

NEF urges the Federal Government to prioritize the appointment of qualified individuals from the Northern Christian community. It is crucial that fair and just processes are followed in all government appointments, to promote unity and equity among all ethnic and religious groups in Nigeria.

NEF reiterates its commitment to fostering unity and equality among all Nigerians. It is imperative that the rights and interests of all citizens, regardless of their background, are safeguarded and respected. The Forum will continue to advocate for fairness and justice in all aspects of governance, to ensure a more inclusive and harmonious society.

BusinessNorthern Coalition Backs Efforts To Boost Naira Value, Call For Review Of Commod by Orabi(op): 7:24am On Mar 29, 2024
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has threw its weight behind efforts to improve the value of Nigerian currency, naira.

The coalition also expressed concerns over the present harsh economic reality in the country, and said any genuine move to strengthen and stabilize the naira and bring back its value against the dollar deserves support.

CNG, in a statement by its national coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, said that the coalition acknowledged some appreciable commitment to addressing economic challenges resulting from the naira’s instability against the dollar, which negatively impacted Nigerians’ purchasing power.

He called on business owners to review download prices of commodities in line with the new value of naira.

Charanchi said: “However, the CNG expresses disappointment over the reluctance of businesses to reflect the current improvement in the naira by adjusting their prices, similar to how they did when the naira was floated. We are saddened to admit that despite sustained gains by the naira, including in the black market, exorbitant prices of goods and services remain prevalent across Nigeria.

“The CNG is deeply concerned about the current skyrocketed prices which evidently expose some businesses as sworn enemies of Nigeria and Nigerians despite claims for the contrary.

“The CNG emphasizes that businesses must take positive steps to reciprocate the naira’s stability by lowering the price of their products for the benefit of the common man. Failure to do so may constitute deliberate economic sabotage and exploitative tendencies against Nigerians.

“Businesses in Nigeria have moral and economic obligations to contribute to the overall well-being of Nigerians, which includes lowering prices to allow citizens to fully benefit from the strengthened naira.
The CNG calls upon these businesses to reconsider their pricing strategies that are inimical to stabilizing the economy to alleviate the pangs of hunger and financial burdens faced by many Nigerians and contribute positively to the current economic climate.

“Although profit is essential for any business, it should not come at the expense of Nigerians’ rights and privileges, which businesses must respect to enjoy a friendly business environment. The CNG believes that businesses should support initiatives aimed at controlling inflation and supporting consumers in line with best ethical business practices that encourage shared prosperity for all and sundry.

“Business entities must note that neither the country nor their businesses can achieve sustainable growth and development when Nigerian masses continue to wallow in hunger and starvation.

“While the government has made strides in stabilizing and strengthening the naira, prices of goods and services have remained unchanged after their hikes due to a weaker naira. Hence, businesses must support efforts to stabilize the economy and recalibrate new prices in tandem with the current realities in the interest of all.

“The CNG calls on all stakeholders, including businesses, to take necessary actions that align with the greater interest of Nigerians for a stable economy that provides food for the downtrodden while allowing businesses decent returns on their investments.

“While we specifically acknowledge the efforts of the Office of National Security Adviser (NSA), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and other relevant agencies in achieving this milestone, the CNG stresses that efforts should be sustained until a dollar is brought below ₦1000 for Nigerians to cope with the current economic challenges.

“Furthermore, the Government through the instruments of NSA and CBN must continue in their efforts to maintain this momentum and implement further measures that will enhance the lives and livelihood of all Nigerians without fear or favour.

“We at the CNG, suggest that the government's commitment to improving economic conditions should be matched with closer surveillance of major business conglomerates engaging in ethically abhorrent business practices that stifle economic mobility of the majority of Nigerians.

“The CNG, therefore, remains committed to advocating for the welfare of northern Nigerians and encourages all businesses in Nigeria, especially those in the north, to engage in responsible and transparent business practices.”
