PoliticsTrade Union Veterans Insist On Abure, Ajaero Sacks by Orabi(op): 5:29pm On Mar 25, 2024
In a dramatic turn of events, the leadership crisis within the Labour Party (LP) has escalated further as trade union veterans and the assembly of trade unionists, insist on the removal of party National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.

They criticized the duo for turning the promising workers' party into a political travesty through their corrupt practices.

The Veteran labour leader, Comrade Isah Tijjani, disclosed this in Abuja, during a press briefing, lamented that the ongoing show of shame, being flagrantly exhibited by the duo of Abure and Ajaero.

He said instead of proudly upholding the noble ideals of the party, a handful of avaricious, power hungry political fraudsters, have since deployed several criminal subterfuges through which, they have succeeded in turning the nation's promising workers party into a colossal political travesty.

The veterans, alongside various groups and individuals, are demanding the immediate arrest and trial of Abure to serve as a deterrent to aspiring politicians, particularly those from trade union backgrounds. The union veterans unequivocally reiterated their call for Abure's removal.

He said: “The cumulative effect of this unfortunate development, is that, the political prospects signaled by the entry of this popular party into the contest for power in our dear country, are fast eroding into an unfathomable oblivion.

“This disagreeable decadence gripping the party, is being given tangible expression by the irony of the corrupt party leaders closing the gate of the party firmly against millions of workers willing to joyously join the party.

“Regrettably, as we speak, this pathetic situation continued unabated, because the NLC which is supposed to play its rightful role as the collective conscience of the party, woefully failed to rise to this enormous responsibility, which she treats with unforgivable levity and reckless abandon.”

The Veterans therefore, asserted that, a quick glance at the current critical issues, by any casual observer, is likely to reveal, that, at the deep roots of these daunting challenges, is the nauseating culture of selfishness under which the very obstinate and highly egocentric president of NLC, comrade Joe Ajaero, has been deeply enmeshed.

Tijjani said that the unwholesome reality partly explains why in recent times, the NLC under comrade Joe Ajaero, continues to register huge losses in both the field of Industrial Relations and in the battle to recover and reposition the Labour Party.

He added, “The legion of Labour Veterans, is intimately familiar with the damning records of financial sleaze said to have been flagrantly perpetrated by the national chairman of LP, Julius Abure, an inveterate money monger of no mean repute.

“This familiarity has emboldened the rank and file of our members nationwide, to spontaneously join the many well meaning and patriotic groups and highly spirited individuals who are calling for the immediate arrest and trial of Mr Julius Abure.

“We strongly believe that his trial and subsequent conviction will serve as a deterrent to aspiring younger politicians, particularly those from trade unions background. In this connection, our good members are hereby strongly reaffirming their cardinal demand, that Abure Must Go.

“Hence, our members will not despair, in pointing the many failings of comrade Joe Ajaero, especially in the sphere of labour unionism, which clearly demonstrate that his well known choleric temperament and overly undemocratic character, have combined to make him totally unsuitable for labour leadership.”

PoliticsNorthern Coalition Hails Return Of Kuriga School Pupils, Tasks Govt On Securing by Orabi(op): 5:14pm On Mar 25, 2024
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), joins parents and other well-meaning Nigerians in welcoming the release of Kuriga primary school pupils.

The group reiterates its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and development throughout the region, as well as advocating for policies that prioritize the welfare of the most vulnerable members of society.

CNG, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, expresses its profound gratitude and appreciation to all stakeholders who worked tirelessly to secure the safe and unharmed release of the innocent school kids who were recently abducted by bandits.

The CNG is particularly appreciative of the National Security Adviser, Kaduna State Government, community leaders, traditional rulers, and other concerned individuals who played crucial roles in ensuring the quick resolution of this unfortunate incident.

He said: “We are equally grateful to the gallant officers of the Nigerian military and other security operatives who risked their lives to ensure the safety and well-being of our children.

“Their dedication and professionalism have once again demonstrated that they remain committed to protecting the citizens of Nigeria, especially the most vulnerable members of our society”.

The CNG, therefore, renews its call on the Government and security operatives to remain on their toes until all other students and vulnerable Nigerians being held captive by bandits are freed and communities prone to attacks are securely protected.

Regrettably, the CNG observed spikes of attacks recently in Katsina and Zamfara states where terrorists continue to unleash mayhem and destruction on our people.

“We are reiterating our call to the concerned state governors to redouble their efforts and work closely with the Federal Government to address the surge in violent attacks against innocent citizens in their communities.

In light of these developments, the CNG urges all stakeholders to remain vigilant and continue working towards ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the hotspot areas.

“We at the CNG have been clamoring for a multidimensional approach to tackling the monster of insecurity through collaborative engagement that involves teaming up with security forces, the general public, and other designated critical stakeholders to get rid of the menace from our communities.

“We thank the general public for their prayers, support, and solidarity during this trying period. The CNG calls on all northerners and friends of the North to recommit themselves to seeking divine intervention to the security and economic challenges bedeviling the region, particularly as Muslim faithful are deeply engrossed in the spiritual journey of the holy month of Ramadan.”

PoliticsBauchi Awareness Forum Condemns Misleading Article By Yasir Shehu Adam by Orabi(op): 3:21pm On Mar 23, 2024
The Bauchi Awareness Forum (BAF), strongly condemns the article written by Yasir Shehu Adam and published by The Nation newspaper on March 22, 2024.

The article, which contains false information and sensationalism, aims to tarnish the reputation of the Bauchi State Government and Governor Bala Mohammed.

Chairman of the forum, Tijjani Dalhatu, in a statement on Saturday, denounces Adam's deceptive narrative as a misrepresentation of the reality in Bauchi State.

He said that the article spreads falsehoods and distorts facts to mislead readers, and lacks credibility, objectivity, and verifiable sources, therefore undermining the significant progress and achievements made by Governor Mohammed's administration.

Dalhatu said: “The article lacks credibility, objectivity, and verifiable sources, thereby undermining the significant progress and achievements made by Governor Mohammed’s administration.

“In direct contradiction to Adam’s baseless allegations, Governor Mohammed has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to advancing various sectors within the state, notably in education, healthcare, infrastructure, support for the vulnerable, and agriculture.”

Speaking about Bauchi State’s achievements under the leadership of Senator Bala Muhammed, Tijjani said, “On education, the Bauchi State Government has spearheaded numerous initiatives, including school renovations, teacher training programs, and the successful reintegration of over 500,000 out-of-school children.”

“Moreover, the implementation of technology-driven solutions such as the TMIS and School Quality Assurance Dashboard Applications has significantly improved the quality of education in the State.

“The healthcare sector has also witnessed substantial enhancements under Governor Mohammed’s leadership, with investments directed towards healthcare facilities, medical training, and the provision of essential medical supplies.

“Collaborative efforts with the United Nations Children’s Fund have resulted in the renovation of 43 Primary Health Care Centres, ensuring equitable access to healthcare services for all residents.

“Additionally, the establishment of the State Social Health Insurance Scheme and the Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency underscores the government’s commitment to providing affordable and quality healthcare services to its citizens.

“Infrastructure development has been a pivotal focus of Governor Mohammed’s administration, with strategic investments in road network improvements and transportation systems, fostering economic growth and development in the state.

“Similarly, robust agricultural programs aimed at increasing food production, creating jobs, and stimulating the economy have been successfully implemented, further boosting the agricultural sector in Bauchi State.”

He urged the public to celebrate these achievements and reject the dissemination of misleading and sensationalistic content by irresponsible media outlets.

He added, “As a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting transparency and accountability in governance, BAF calls upon media practitioners to uphold the principles of responsible journalism by verifying information before publication.”

PoliticsGroup Protests At LP Secretariat, Calls For Abure’s Resignation As Chairman by Orabi(op): 3:29pm On Mar 22, 2024
A group of concerned members of the Labour Party (LP) known as Concerned Labour Party Members (CLPM) staged a protest at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.

The protesters demanded the resignation of Julius Abure, the party's National Chairman, citing the need for new leadership and fresh ideas within the party.

The group also called for the resignation of the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, from both the NLC and LP.

The ongoing conflict between the NLC and the LP has intensified, with members of the union picketing party secretariats nationwide.

Protesters gathered outside the LP national headquarters, chanting solidarity songs. However, security operatives prevented them from gaining access to the party secretariat.

Speaking to the press during the protest, former NLC national vice president, Comrade Isa Tijjani, stated that the resignation of Abure and Ajaero was necessary to bring in individuals with democratic ideals and integrity.

Tijjani emphasized that the reputation of the Labour movement has been tarnished by corruption and ethnic biases, threatening its existence.

"This action aligns with the democratic norms of the Labour Congress and the Labour Party," Tijjani said. "Both organizations stand for progress and reject regressive practices. It is crucial that we do not entrust these important organizations to individuals who are unserious and promote ethnic divisions."

Tijjani also expressed concern about corruption allegations against Abure as the LP Chairman and questioned Ajaero's actions in picketing the party office.

He called for a deeper understanding of the motivations behind the picketing.

He said: “I am sure we are all aware of the problems created by our leaders which are becoming protracted, and a shame and burden on the body of our beloved party.

“Issues involved have grown from ideological concern to personality clash giving bad name to the image of the party and the Nigeria Labour Congress, these are bodies created to fight for the rights of workers and the generality of the common people.

“We are grounded with facts between the creation of these bodies stemming from protecting the interest of workers to widening the democratic space through the participation of the working class which unfortunately has turned into something else.

“The image of the Labor movement has been tinted with ethnic coloration to corrupt the democratic space. This has not only threatened our existence but spoiled our name and dragged us to the derogatory side of the good name hitherto created by patriotic labour personnel.

“In the aftermath of the foregoing, we had to mobilize members from across the country to participate in returning to decorum and patriotism of the party. We also want to urge active members of the Congress to join hands together with us for restoration and returning to the path of glory both in the party and the Labor movement.”

PoliticsKatsina Youth Vanguard Knocks Gove Lawal, Raddah Failure To Attend Security Meet by Orabi(op): 3:22pm On Mar 17, 2024
The Katsina Youth Vanguard (KYV), has condemns the refusal of Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, and Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Raddah, stating that both lack commitment to addressing the security challenges facing their respective states and the entire North-West region.

Recall that the Northern Governors Forum had a meeting with the National Security Adviser and service chiefs to find lasting solutions to the escalating insecurity in the North-West region.

Reacting to the development in a statement, the Chairman of the Vanguard, Aliyu Tanko, said: “It is unacceptable for elected officials to neglect their responsibilities to protect the lives and properties of their citizens, especially in the face of escalating insecurity and widespread fear among the populace.

The group said that it was disheartening to note that the governors of Zamfara and Katsina , who are among the worst hit by the pervasive insecurity in the region, could miss the golden opportunity afforded by meeting to address the rampant cases banditry, kidnapping, and loss of lives and property.

It also faulted the deployment of non-state actors to address the security issues in the states by the two governors.

He said: “The introduction of Yan Sa Kai civilian outfits in these states, supposedly meant to complement the efforts of the security agencies, has unfortunately exacerbated the situation by leading to human rights abuses, extrajudicial killings, and further destabilization of the already fragile security landscape.

“The refusal of the two governors to attend this critical security meeting is a clear indication of their lack of commitment to addressing the security challenges facing their respective states and the entire North-West region. It is unacceptable for elected officials to neglect their responsibilities to protect the lives and properties of their citizens, especially in the face of escalating insecurity and widespread fear among the populace.

“The KYV reminds Governor Lawal and Governor Raddah to prioritize the security and well-being of their people above all other considerations. They must set aside any political differences and work collaboratively with the security agencies and the Northern Governors Forum to find lasting solutions to the insecurity plaguing our region.

“We warn against the politicization of security matters, as this only serves to worsen the already dire situation. It is imperative that all stakeholders come together in a spirit of unity and cooperation to tackle the root causes of insecurity and restore peace and stability in our communities.

“The KYV stands ready to support all efforts aimed at safeguarding the lives and properties of our people and creating a conducive environment for socio-economic development in the North-West region. We call on Governor Lawal and Governor Raddah to demonstrate strong leadership and commit to working towards a peaceful and secure future for all residents of Zamfara and Katsina states.”
PoliticsAlleged Budget Padding: RAID Condemns Ningi Suspension by Orabi(op): 5:45pm On Mar 16, 2024
Rebuild Arewa Initiative for Development (RAID), has condemned the Senate’s decision to suspend senator Abdul Ningi, for three months for expressing concern over irregularities in the 2024 national budget.

The suspension was a result of his expression of concern over alleged irregularities in the 2024 national budget. RAID is calling for the swift and unconditional reinstatement of Senator Ningi.

The president of RAID, Balarabe Rufai, disclosed this in Abuja, during a press briefing, said that the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi from the National Assembly is a matter of great concern and one that it will approach with both seriousness and sensitivity.

He said that it is crucial to navigate this situation with the utmost respect for all parties involved and for the democratic principles that guide the nation.

Rufai said: “It is important to us that we navigate this situation with the utmost respect for all parties involved and for the principles that guide our democracy. Today, we will share details on this decision, the reasons behind it, and how we plan to move forward, always with the goal of ensuring the well-being and stability of our nation.

“We appreciate your attention and understanding, and we are open to any questions you may have. This suspension extinguished the senator's esteemed privileges and effectively muted a voice that had become a staple in our political discourse.”

He highlighted the impact of the senator's expulsion from the Senate floors, describing it as a catastrophe that robs the nation of a powerful political advocate

Rufai added, “The shockwaves of his suspension have triggered divisive views amongst his peers, with one senator condemning Ningi's move as a so-called 'civil coup' and another calling for a meticulous investigation by the Ethics and Privileges Committee.

“Adding insult to injury, Senator Ningi has been stripped of his emoluments - his salary and allowances withheld, in what appears to be an injustice to his service and commitment.”

PoliticsCoalition Condemns Zamfara, Katsina Govs For Shunning Crucial Meeting With Secur by Orabi(op): 4:22pm On Mar 16, 2024
A non-governmental group, the Safeguard Zamfara Coalition (SZC) has condemned Zamfara and Katsina governors for shunning a crucial security meeting initiated by the chairman of the Northern Governors Forum with security chiefs.

The group in a statement signed by its President General, Saminu Tukur, at the weekend, said the meeting was designed to address the security situation in the two states.

It expressed disappointment over the governor's actions.

“The Safeguard Zamfara Coalition (SZC) hereby express deep disappointment and frustration towards the governors of Zamfara and Katsina states for their blatant disregard of a crucial meeting initiated by the chairman of the Northern Governors Forum with security chiefs.

“This meeting was aimed at finding a way to address the current security crisis in Northern Nigeria, particularly in the states of Zamfara and Katsina which have been plagued by escalating insecurity.

“The SZC, dedicated to promoting peace and security in Zamfara and the surrounding regions, hereby condemns the actions of Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara and Governor Umar Raddah of Katsina for failing to participate in the discussion that could have potentially yielded solutions to the dire security situation.

“These two governors, whose states have borne the brunt of the violence and bloodshed, had a responsibility to engage in dialogue and cooperation in order to safeguard the lives and well-being of their citizens.

“The SZC notes that the governors’ stuborn reliance on civilian forces (Yan Sa Kai) to combat the security challenges has only exacerbated the crisis. The unregulated and often indiscriminate operations by the Yan Sa Kai have led to further violence and chaos, contributing to the deterioration of the security environment in the North-West region.”

The group also expressed the need for a more strategic and coordinated approach to address the root causes of insecurity, rather than resorting to short-sighted and potentially harmful tactics such as unleashing the Yan Sa Kai.

“The SZC sternly warns against any attempts by the Zamfara and Katsina governors to politicize the security issue at the expense of the lives and safety of the people. We emphasize that the security and well-being of the citizens should always remain the top priority, and warn the governors to set aside their personal interests and engage in meaningful efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.

“The failure of Governor Lawal and Governor Raddah to engage in the dialogue with the security chiefs reflects a troubling lack of commitment and leadership on their part. It is disheartening to see the governors of the worst-hit states turning a blind eye to opportunities for meaningful deliberations and cooperation, especially when the lives and security of their citizens are at stake.

“The SZC’s condemnation of the actions of the Zamfara and Katsina governors underscores the urgent need for strong and principled leadership in addressing the security challenges facing Northern Nigeria. The governors must rise above petty politics and personal agendas, and work with serious-minded genuinely concerned stakeholders towards finding lasting solutions that will bring peace and stability to the region.

“The lives and well-being of the people should be the paramount concern, and any actions by any governor that put them at risk or further endanger their security would not be tolerated. It is time for the governors to prioritize the safety and security of their citizens above all else, and take meaningful steps to address the current security crisis in a responsible and effective manner.”
PoliticsNorth-east Northern Coalition Faults Senate Leader Over Comments On Ningi’s Susp by Orabi(op): 7:31pm On Mar 15, 2024
The North-East Chapter of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), faulted Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, for alleging that Senator Abdul Ningi is propagating an impeachment agenda against Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, despite the Northern Senators Forum not being in support of it.

Senator Bamidele sparked controversy by suggesting a northern plot to stage what he termed a “civilian coup” and questioning the reliability of northern senators, particularly in relation to the presidency of the Senate.

The group, in a statement signed by it's Zonal Coordinator, Isah Abubakar Waziri, the CNG condemned what they perceived as Senator Bamidele’s attempt to profile northern senators and by extension, the northern populace.

His comment was in reaction to an allegation by Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi of budget padding to the tune of N3.7 trillion.

They emphasized the significant role played by northern lawmakers in the political landscape, including facilitating the emergence of key figures like the Senate President.

The statement read in part: “This is an extraordinary abuse of parliamentary privilege by a senator who proclaimed to be a lawyer. Such weighty allegations are not only dangerous to the peace and security of Nigeria but also reveal Bamidele’s penchant for hatred for the North and complete disdain for democratic transparency and accountability.

“The NE Chapter of CNG, therefore, strongly condemns Senator Bamidele’s jingoistic and abhorrent utterances that are capable of plummeting the remnant of the battered reputation of the Red Chamber.”

He added, “We observed with rather a shock, that a ranking senator, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, stooped so low to profiling northern senators and by implication, the northern people for planning to stage what he described as ‘a civilian coup’. Senator Bamidele descended further to portray northerners as unreliable who are hell-bent on removing Godswill Akpabio as the President of the 10th Senate.

“It is imperative to educate Bamidele that the North he is insulting gave the highest and most decisive number of votes to the incumbent President Bola Tinubu just as the northern senators who constitute the majority facilitated the emergence of Godswill Akpabio as the Senate President.

“For the avoidance of any doubt, it is important to unravel this dangerous rhetoric woven around our differences by a senator through provoking sectional sentimental calculation over and above the priority of collective and cohesive struggle to enshrine accountability and transparency in the Senate.

“Let it be vivid to Bamidele that the Northern lawmakers always make robust legislative engagements irrespective of who is superintending the National Assembly which is why for example Abdulmumini Jibrin challenged Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara and Sen. Ali Ndume confronted Sen. Bukola Saraki with allegations, yet, it was only the issues that were dissected and debated.

“It is necessary to deploy every plausible means to disabuse the ilk of Bamidele from such narrow political conjecture that can only gain currency in a situation that stifles democratic etiquette.”
PoliticsCoalition Of Northern Groups Urges Bamidele To Approach Political Discourse With by Orabi(op): 4:27pm On Mar 14, 2024
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), urged Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, from Ekiti Central Senatorial District to approach political discourse with honesty, integrity and a sense of historical context.

It would be recalled that recently on the floor of the Senate, Bamidele, who is also the Majority Leader of the upper chamber, alleged that Senator Abdul Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central Senatorial District, attempted to unseat Senate President Godswill Akpabio by allegedly inciting the Northern Senators’ Forum which he led against Akpabio, a southern senator.

CNG, in a statement, by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, described Bamidele’s statement as “irresponsible and callous attempt to distort history and point fingers at the North.”

They also demand detailed breakdowns and transparency in budget allocations for government-owned enterprises, agencies like the National Judicial Council, Independent National Electoral Commission, Tertiary Education Trust Fund, and the National Assembly.

Charanchi said: “This desperate attempt to rewrite history and as usual, put the blame on the North for all the country's woes is unacceptable as well as repugnant to the sensibilities of northerners. In his misguided and insane tirade, Senator Bamidele ignorantly forgot or deliberately ignored key historical facts that paint a different but true picture.

“He failed to acknowledge that it was President Shehu Shagari, a northerner, who made Joseph Wayas president of the Senate of the Second Republic, against a fellow northern aspirant in the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

“Furthermore, Bamidele mischievously failed to mention that it was President Olusegun Obasanjo, a southerner, who orchestrated the removal of several southern individuals from the Senate presidency.

“He must also remember that southern politicians like President Obasanjo too have played their part in manipulating the political landscape when he ruthlessly removed three Peoples Democratic Party national chairman of northern extraction from their positions.

“Bamidele seems to have a selective memory when it comes to political alliances and the role that Northern politicians have played in shaping the country's leadership by failing to acknowledge the support that Northern politicians provided to figures like President Tinubu, allowing him to secure the presidential ticket of the APC and ensuring his emergence as president with their overwhelming votes of 60 percent.

“His rude attempts to deflect attention from the budget padding revelations made by Senator Abdul Ningi only further highlight his desperation to change the narrative.

“We note the revelation that some Senators got N500m each from the 2024 budget while some collected N200m all in the bid to cover-up the fraud uncovered. It was also discovered that some senatorial districts have up to N120 billion while other senatorial districts have just N1.2 billion.

“It was also revealed that in the budget presented to the Senate, some constituencies were allocated N120 billion, some N50 billion; some N30 billion. Some have less than N1 billion. Although the allegation has been dismissed as being untrue both by the presidency and the legislative arm of the government, the development has unearthed non transparent and unjustified financial allocations to the National Assembly, thus further casting doubts over its integrity.

“The absence of reasonable explanations by the Senate leadership as to where these monies were inserted in the budget emphasizes the validity of Senator Ningi's assertions regarding the lack of detailed allocation for the stated amount in the 2024 budget.”

The CNG also expressed dismay over the actions of senators like Aminu Tambuwal and Ahmed Lawal to the Northern cause.

He added, “Despite their glaring betrayal, Bamidele continues on the path of his forefathers who have under various administrations tried to bring down the North by destroying its institutions, expelling its people from positions of responsibility in government, undermining its economic and social fabrics, and encouraging rampant poverty and social problems.

“The CNG today declares that enough is enough. The North will no longer remain passive under such deliberate and sustained attacks on its leaders, its integrity and dignity, and will henceforth be forced to react to every provocation and unwarranted treatment from any quarter. Bamidele and his ilk, with their collaborators from the North, should be warned that their actions will not go unnoticed and in the fullness of time, they will be held accountable for their utterances.

“All those who have no other useful vocation other than attacking northern leaders under the slightest of pretexts should know that our patience has reached its nadir. The North's reticence in speaking out or taking action is not born of fear or ignorance of how to respond in kind. It is simply because of our respect for others and deep commitment to national integration.”
BusinessRe: Welders In Nigeria Oil, Gas Steel Sector Are All Foreigners - Edouieb by Orabi(op): 12:53am On Mar 14, 2024
In a shocking revelation, an industry expert, the regional manager Africa and Middle East of Seabery, Abdennour Edouieb, has revealed that one hundred per-cent of welders in Nigeria's oil and gas steel sector are foreign workers.

The expert also raises concerns about the lack of opportunities for local welders in a country with a population of over 200 million people.

Edouieb, disclosed this in Abuja, during a meeting with steel stakeholders in the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), stressed the importance of creating a well-organized and structured sector that would not only include local specifications but also set local standards.

The expert highlighted the presence of a significant loophole in the system, as none of these foreign welders have the necessary licenses to work in the oil and gas industry to train more Nigerians to boost the steel sector.

He noted that Seabery, in partnership with Nigeria's Soldamatic is set to train Nigerians to bridge the gap between international and local welders in the steel sector.

He said: “According to Nigeria's data, one hundred percent of welders in the oil and gas sector are from outside Nigeria with the population of 200 million people; none of the welders is licensed to be in oil and gas.

“So there is a hole in the system. There is something that is not straight, there is something that should be fixed. We can start from modernization and digitalization of the system so we can reach the world standards, then we can make the regulations or the rules.

“So that there will be not just some kind of random training, but it will be a specific and organized sector that has local specifications, and also has some local standards."

He said that the act has obviously poses a serious challenge to the development and growth of local talent, as the valuable experience and expertise gained in this sector remains inaccessible to Nigerian welders.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Abuja Chapter, Engr. Odama Ojeka Mathew, called on the federal government to establish a framework that would support the training and licensing of local welders, ensuring their participation and contribution to the oil and gas steel sector.

He said: “It is necessary to establish regulations and rules that are specific to the Nigerian context. This would enable the industry to develop a tailored approach and meet national standards.

“This revelation serves as a wake-up call for Nigerian authorities to take immediate action to rectify this situation and promote the inclusion of local welders in the oil and gas sector. By investing in training programs, improving industry regulations, and incentivizing local participation, Nigeria can tap into the immense potential of its population and bolster its indigenous talent pool."[/quote]

CareerMinerals, Miners Center Gives Scholarship To Amputated Miner-girl Who Escaped Tr by Orabi(op): 5:16pm On Mar 13, 2024
Kogi Women Miners Welfare Association has released gory images of a survivor miner-girl who escaped death by the whiskers in an avoidable tragedy that consumed the lives of her colleagues.

This release was done at the International Women’s Day celebration event anchored by the Africa Minerals and Miners Center, MMC’s Initiative for Women Miners in Africa, IWoMA.

The event that took place on the 8th of March 2024 was aimed at sensitizing women, minerals ore off-takers and general stakeholders on the need to ensure responsible social and economic mining practices in rural communities where women and girls are the majority artisanal workers in mine sites.

The poor girl and her colleagues after breaking and loading Felspar on this doomed day staked their lives, climbed the loaded truck, and sat on the stones to get a lift to their destination to save some token.

The truck collided with another trailer and the rocks they helped to load, crushed them as they fell off the truck with the boulders sadly flying over them as well, instantly killing some of her colleagues in the process.

Comfort, now amputated, is a native of Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State.

She spent one year in the hospital and was supported by the Kogi Women Miners Welfare Association headed by Mrs Janet Ogoru Ahiaba, who saw to it that the girls and women were treated at the hospital no matter what it took including depositing her car with the hospital as collateral to treat the girls while she sourced for funds for the hospital bills to see through the hospital bills and with the help of a few Nigerians, the girls were treated.

MMC’s Initiative for Women Miners in Africa, IWoMA, has awarded Comfort a scholarship to return to school and leave the mines. With the challenges, Comfort who now has to learn how to write with the left hand, has thankfully agreed to return to school and complete her secondary education as awarded in the Scholarship and probably study a course related to Natural resources and do better next time.

The Director of MMC, Dr Comfort Asokoro – Ogaji reiterated in an interview that, “Comfort Ezekiel my namesake will make us proud even with her condition. She is left-handed and has an issue with her legs but certainly not her brain. She will succeed despite the challenges by the grace of God.”

Another girl involved in the accident and still at home with her scars is Helen Chiloba a 13 year old girl who also spent a year in the hospital needs to return to school as a matter of urgency but one donor cannot do much.

Helen hails from Bassa LGA in Kogi State and has been active in the mines through the help of her Aunt in Ajaokuta LGA, who accommodated her until the accident. She has now returned to Odugbo village.

The Centre calls on miners to embrace responsible mining, saying that off takers of mineral ores in mining communities where women and girls are the miners, should trade responsibly in the interest of fairness to the locals most especially women and girls.

Adding that the Local Government Area Councils should also take on their obligations to educate their miners on the standard practices.

In her remark, “To do the right things at the Local Government and State levels was not capital intensive, does not require huge funds, what it requires is the commitment to serve the people and zoom into the villages and communities and get down to work. There should be consistent training organized by the local and state governments in solid minerals trading, agriculture and other aspects of the economy that ought to boost the livelihood of the people and not lead them to their graves. We are all humans and should have human feelings and be concerned about these women.”

BusinessWelders In Nigeria Oil, Gas Steel Sector Are All Foreigners by Orabi(op): 12:30pm On Mar 13, 2024

He noted that Seabery in partnership with Nigeria's Soldamatic is set to train Nigerians to bridge the gap between international and local welders in the steel sector.

PoliticsOhaneze Youths Backs NASS Over Ajaokuta Probe by Orabi(op): 6:19pm On Mar 12, 2024
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, faulted traditional rulers in Kogi State for kicking against the Senate investigative panel on Ajaokuta Steel Company and the National Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe.

The warning came in response to a letter written to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio by the Ebira Area Traditional Rulers Council.

The National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, in a statement, said that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was right on her motion over the state of affairs in Ajaokuta Steel Company and the National Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe, both in Ebira land.

It could be recalled that the Senate had consequent upon a motion sponsored by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP Kogi Central), set up a committee to probe alleged shoddy dealings in the steel company and the Iron Ore mining company.

Senator Adeniyi Ayodele Adegbonmire SAN (APC Ondo Central) is to be the chairman of the investigative panel, while Senator Kawu Suleiman (NNPP Kano South) is to be the deputy chairman.

Presenting the motion, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, said the companies were established in the late 70s by the Federal Government with a potential to put Nigeria on the path of technological and industrial advancement, and establish the country as one of the leading exporters of steel products in the world.

She noted that decades after their establishment, the Ajaokuta Steel Mill and NIOMCO have remained inoperative and unable to produce steel despite seeming efforts by several administrations due to lack of earnest political will and bureaucratic corruption.

However, the Ebira monarchs, who appear to be on a different page, have written a protest letter to the Senate expressing their stand against the resolutions of the Red Chamber.

They said the two companies should not be dragged into controversies, adding that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s motion called for caution.

Okwu, who wondered whether the steel company and the National Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe, now belonged to Ebira people, and by extension Kogi State, said it was curious that anyone would stand to oppose the Senate's decision to investigate all the issues surrounding the companies.

He said: “We must state clearly that the investigative panel as constituted by the Senate is very apt and long overdue.

“It is curious that for years now, Ajaokuta Steel and the National Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe, which are national assets, have been left moribund, despite interventions by the federal government.

“One cannot take one's eyes away from the fact that it is a collective asset belonging to the Nigerian people, just like the oil industry and every other national economic asset. It does not belong to Ebira land and by extension Kogi State, so the traditional rulers erred by their opposition to the decision taken by the Senate.

“The motion, sponsored by Akpoti-Uduaghan, which informed the Senate’s decision needs to be applauded and not vilified. It is a step in the right direction to salvage what is left of those invaluable assets.”

The Igbo youth group further stated that any lover of the country should not take any step that was tantamount to giving backing to economic saboteurs.

According to the group, “It is clear that the enemies of the country have held the company down for years; they don’t want their age-long fraud to be exposed.

“We are afraid that they could be deceiving the traditional rulers, who may have issued that protest letter out of mistake and for not having the right information.

“What Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has actually done is in the best interest of not just the host community but the entire country and we are solidly behind her and the Senate.

“The probe should be total and thorough; nobody should be spared; anyone standing on the way against the revitalising of that national asset should be exposed and those who may have committed any heist against the country via those companies should be made to pay back.

“There is no doubt that if the companies resume operation, they would guarantee jobs to teeming Nigerian youths and contribute to the nation’s GDP. This is why we are solidly behind Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and the entire Senate on this.”

“Secondly, we need media support to enlighten people about this, we can only do that with the collaboration of media houses.

“In terms of making sure people enjoy the quality of what we intend to provide, the simple thing to do is to make sure the information is out there, and what this means is that we are going to do a lot of publicity about it,” he said.

Fagbohun said that the Z-Korting Project was targeted at young fresh minds and would be built in Idu, Karmo, Jahi and Cafe City, Gwarinpa respectively.

PoliticsNorthern Elders Condemns Escalating Wave Of School Abductions by Orabi(op): 5:05pm On Mar 09, 2024
The Northern Elders Forum, expressed its deep concern over the escalating security crisis in the Northern region, saying that it is saddened by the worsening state of security in the nation highlighted by the alarming increase in school abductions.

NEF also recalls that the recent attack and mass abductions in Kuriga village, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have once again brought to the forefront the grave security challenges facing Northern Nigeria.

The Director of Publicity and Advocacy, NEF, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, in a media chat with Guardian while reacting to the recent school abductions, condemned the heinous act and expressed deep concern over the escalating wave of school abductions in the region.

He said: “His incident, where over 200 students and teachers were kidnapped from LEA Primary school, further underscores the fragile state of security in the nation," the statement read.

The NEF lamented the fact that the abduction of schoolchildren has now become a common occurrence in Northern Nigeria, posing a serious threat to education in the region.

He said: “This reprehensible act not only violates the fundamental rights of these innocent children to education but also instills fear and anxiety among parents and educators.

"The recent wave of school abductions, where innocent children are being taken from their schools, is particularly distressing. These incidents not only traumatize the victims and their families but also undermine the educational system and the future of the nation.

“It is clear that the current security situation is a matter of grave concern, and it is imperative that all stakeholders work together to find lasting solutions to these challenges.”

They emphasized the need for a collaborative effort between the government, security agencies, and local communities to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.

The NEF also highlighted the broader implications of such acts of violence on the fabric of Nigerian society. The continuous occurrence of kidnappings, killings, armed robberies, and violent attacks, not just in the rural areas but even in the federal capital, is a stark reminder of the pervasive insecurity that plagues the nation. It is a tragic reality that Nigerians are living under constant fear of being targeted by criminal elements.

“The abduction of 200 students in Kuriga village is particularly distressing, considering that it is the same community where a school principal was killed and his wife kidnapped just over a month ago. Such brazen acts of violence demonstrate the brazen disregard for human life and the rule of law by the perpetrators of these crimes.”

The NEF warned that this state of lawlessness is unacceptable and called for urgent action to restore security and peace in the affected areas. “This condemnation should serve as a clarion call for the government and security agencies to take proactive measures to protect schools, communities, and vulnerable populations in the North. It is imperative that all necessary resources and strategies are deployed to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and teachers and to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

“Government must see this as a strong stance reflecting the collective outrage and concern of Nigerians over the deteriorating security situation in the country. The government must prioritize the safety and wellbeing of its citizens and take decisive action to combat insecurity and safeguard the future of the next generation.

“Education is a fundamental right that must be protected at all costs, and any threat to it must be met with unwavering resolve and determination.

“May the abducted students and teachers be safely reunited with their families, and may justice be served on those responsible for this heinous crime.”
PoliticsFrom Crisis To Stability: The Apc's Journey Under Ganduje's Leadership by Orabi(op): 6:01pm On Mar 08, 2024
By Suleiman Abbah

The year 2023 was a tumultuous one for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria, as internal rifts and power struggles dominated the party's landscape. The lead-up to the party's national convention was marked by various factions vying for control and influence, reflecting broader ideological divides and conflicts over leadership within the party.

Similar to party crises in other democracies around the world, such as the Republican Party in the United States or the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom, the APC's internal struggles were driven by differing visions and priorities among its members. These tensions were exacerbated by a history of factionalism and power struggles within the party, as well as external pressures from opposition parties and other political actors in Nigeria.

The appointment of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as National Chairman by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party marked a turning point in the party's trajectory. Ganduje inherited a party in turmoil, with challenges ranging from filling vacant offices to resolving disputes between key party members. His leadership style, characterized by a commitment to unity and consultation, brought a sense of stability and direction to the party.

One of the key challenges Ganduje faced was the battle to fill the vacant office of the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, which highlighted tensions between different stakeholders within the party. His ability to navigate these conflicts and reach consensus demonstrated his skill in managing internal dynamics and fostering unity within the party.

Ganduje's proactive approach to addressing issues within the party and even outside it, such as the potential impeachment of the deputy governor of Ondo state and the face-off between Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers state and his godfather Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, showcased his commitment to finding political solutions and maintaining party cohesion nationwide.

Under Ganduje's leadership, the APC embarked on a path of reform and repositioning, with a focus on grassroots engagement, electronic membership registration, and the establishment of a Progressive Institute. His vision for the party as a platform of ideology and inclusivity reflected a commitment to strengthening the party's internal structures and ensuring transparency in its operations.

One of the key initiatives undertaken by Ganduje is the implementation of electronic membership registration, which aims to streamline the party's membership database and improve planning and coordination efforts. By leveraging technology, the APC can better engage with its members and stakeholders, and ensure that the party remains relevant and responsive to the needs of its constituents.

Ganduje's efforts in reviving the Buhari House national secretariat of the APC have undoubtedly transformed the once sporadically busy building into a bustling hub of activity. With the addition of a staff canteen, a Christian chapel, a modern security gatehouse, and a digitized Media Centre, the party headquarters now serves as a dynamic and modern space for party members and stakeholders.

The decision to establish critical standing committees, the Progressive Institute, and to return the party to its grassroots by setting up functional offices at the ward and local government levels demonstrates Ganduje's commitment to strengthening the party structure. Additionally, the inauguration of state campaign councils in various states signifies a shift towards decentralization and a more inclusive decision-making process.

Ganduje has however faced numerous challenges, particularly in the lead-up to the November 11 governorship election in Kogi state. Many party members feared that the APC would lose Kogi and other key states, which could have potentially led to Ganduje being ousted from his position.

Despite these concerns, the party was able to retain two states and came close to winning Bayelsa as well. Ganduje has been vocal about his commitment to uniting the party and transforming it into a party of ideology rather than just an election platform. He envisions the APC having its own Progressive Institute modeled after renowned institutes in the United States.

Ganduje's leadership style is characterized by his willingness to listen to different opinions and engage with various party stakeholders. He has made it a priority to ensure internal democracy within the party and to encourage wider consultations throughout the year. Under his watch, the party has seen increased engagement from various support groups and party leaders.

One area of focus for Ganduje has been activating and revitalizing the party structures at the ward level, which have often been neglected in the past. By paying attention to these grassroots structures, the APC aims to strengthen its presence and effectiveness at the grassroots level.

Overall, Ganduje's leadership has shown promise in steering the APC through challenging times and repositioning the party for success in the future. His commitment to unity, democracy, and ideological transformation bodes well for the party's long-term viability and relevance in Nigerian politics.
Ganduje's visionary leadership and innovative approach to party organization and revitalization are essential for the continued success and growth of the APC. Through his efforts, the party is well-positioned to strengthen its presence at the grassroots level, foster closer relationships with partners and stakeholders, and ultimately, advance its mission of promoting good governance and development in Nigeria.

As the APC looks towards the future, Ganduje's leadership provides a foundation for stability, unity, and growth. His emphasis on e-registration, grassroots activation, and strategic planning positions the party for continued success and expansion. With a renewed sense of purpose and direction, the APC under Ganduje's leadership is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of Nigerian politics and emerge stronger in the coming years.
PoliticsSouth-east Development Commission: Ohanaeze Youths Laud NASS, Seek Tinubu’s Asse by Orabi(op): 7:06pm On Mar 06, 2024
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has lauded the National Assembly over the passage of the South-East Development Commission bill.

It could be recalled that the Senate finally passed the bill last Thursday almost two months after its passage by the House of Representatives.

During plenary last week, Michael Opeyemi, the Senate Leader, and Senator representing Ekiti Central had presented the Bill for an Act to act as catalyst to develop the commercial potentials of the South East and for other Connected Matters, 2024 (HB.626) for concurrence and second reading.

The House of Representatives had in December 2023 passed the long-awaited bill after years of agitation.

The bill was sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

Recall that the Bill was earlier passed by the 8th Senate but did not receive assent from former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said the passage of the bill was a dream come true for Ndigbo.

Okwu, who hailed the Senate leadership under Senator Godswill Akpabio for passing the bill without haste, noted that “we have always expressed our unflinching support to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

“We know that under his watch, every section of Nigeria will get due legislative attention without much ado and that is exactly what has happened.

“The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council equally lauds the House of Representatives for taking the lead in December last year.

“It is clear that we have responsive and capable leaders in both chambers of the National Assembly.

"We equally commend the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, a great Igbo leader, for initiating and seeing to the passage of the bill in the Green Chamber."

While urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assent to the bill, Okwu expressed hope that it would catapult development in the South-East.

“Our appeal to the father of the nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is to sign this bill into law as soon as possible.

“The former administration, out of their hatred for Ndigbo refused to allow it sail through even after it was passed.

“We are glad that the bill is alive again; so, our appeal to Mr President is to sign it into law in order to facilitate the long awaited development of the South-East, a region that has suffered unprecedented neglect,” Okwu further stated.

PoliticsBehind The Headlines: Taking A Closer Look At The NLC Protests And Joe Ajaero's by Orabi(op): 7:26pm On Mar 03, 2024
By Suleiman Abbah

The recent nationwide warning protests organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress have brought to light the deep-seated issues afflicting the organization. Led by the controversial figure of Joe Ajaero, the protests seemed more like a public relations stunt than a genuine effort to address the issues facing Nigerian workers today.

Comrade Joe Ajaero's rise to power within the NLC has seen a shift towards a one-man show, disregarding the collective responsibility traditionally associated with decision-making within the organization. His disdain for the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and his political ambitions have further divided the labor movement, eroding the unity and solidarity that was once prevalent.

One of the most troubling aspects of Ajaero's leadership is his autocratic style, which has alienated many within the organization. His open hostility towards the Trade Union Congress, as well as his foray into politics with a failed gubernatorial bid, have only further divided an already fractured labor movement. This has led to a breakdown in the unity and solidarity that has traditionally characterized the relationship between the two major labor centers in Nigeria.

Furthermore, Ajaero's actions have jeopardized the reputation and effectiveness of the labor movement. His ill-advised strike actions in Imo state last year not only failed to achieve their intended purpose but also resulted in chaos and violence. Ajaero's attempts to stifle dissent within the NLC by bypassing key decision-making organs have further highlighted his undemocratic leadership style.

It is clear that Nigerian workers are growing weary of Ajaero's leadership, as his strikes and protests have failed to yield tangible results or bring about positive change. The need for a change in leadership within the NLC is becoming increasingly urgent, as workers continue to suffer under the current regime.

It is imperative that Nigerian workers come together to demand a democratic transition within the NLC, one that prioritizes the needs and interests of its members. The time has come to put an end to the fiasco orchestrated by Ajaero and to usher in a new era of transparent, accountable, and effective leadership within the Nigeria Labour Congress.

Conclusively, the latest misadventure by the NLC has highlighted the need for a change in leadership within the organization. Comrade Joe Ajaero's autocratic tendencies and political ambitions have divided the labor movement and eroded its effectiveness. It is time for Nigerian workers to demand a democratic transition within the NLC and to put an end to the calamitous fiasco perpetuated by Ajaero's leadership.

The current state of affairs within the Nigeria Labour Congress cannot continue, and it is time for workers to assert their power and usher in a new era of leadership that prioritizes their interests and well-being. Only through collective action and unity can Nigerian workers overcome the fiasco that has befallen the NLC under Joe Ajaero's leadership.
BusinessNorthern Elders Rejects Plans To Relocats Critical Firefighting Equipment From N by Orabi(op): 7:12pm On Mar 03, 2024
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has expresses grave concern over the planned relocation of critical firefighting simulation equipment from the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The NEF also commends the House of Representatives for taking a bold stance against this unacceptable relocation plot, especially in light of the suspicious transfer of key departments from the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria from their original locations in Abuja to Lagos.

NEF, in a statement by its Director Publicity and Advocacy/Spokesperson,
Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said that the actions, viewed collectively, raise serious concerns about a deliberate effort to undermine federal institutions located in Northern Nigeria.

He said: “The relocation of the firefighting simulator from NCAT is particularly troubling given the institution's long-standing history and pivotal role in the development of Nigeria's aviation industry. Established in 1964, NCAT has been instrumental in providing specialized training in aircraft engineering, flying, and air traffic management.

“The firefighting simulator, a key tool in training aviation firefighting personnel, is critical for preparing future professionals to handle fire emergencies in the aviation sector. The relocation of this critical equipment could have negative implications not only for the institution but also for the broader aviation sector in the country.

“The fire fighting simulators at NCAT are crucial in preparing future aviation professionals for potential fire emergencies. Relocating these simulators to an undisclosed location could jeopardize the quality of training provided to students at the college and compromise the safety of air travel in Nigeria.

“The plan to move these critical equipment from NCAT to an undisclosed location is not only disruptive but also potentially harmful, and it is crucial that it be reconsidered.

“The safety and future of the Nigerian aviation industry depend on the proper training and preparation of its professionals, and any decision that undermines this must be met with strong resistance. It is time for all parties involved to come together and work towards a solution that protects the interests of the aviation sector and ensures the safety and quality of training for future aviation professionals.

“The NEF strongly believes that the relocation of the firefighting simulator, initiated by Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, must be vehemently resisted by stakeholders. Such a move could have negative implications not only for local institutions but also for the broader aviation sector in the country. The quality of training provided to students at NCAT could be jeopardized, potentially compromising the safety of air travel in Nigeria.

“The safety and security of air travel in Nigeria must be prioritized above all else, and decisions regarding the relocation of critical equipment must be made with utmost caution and consideration for the future of the industry."

NEF calls for a reconsideration of the plan to move the firefighting simulator from NCAT to an undisclosed location, adding that, “This disruptive and potentially harmful decision must be carefully evaluated to safeguard the integrity and strength of federal institutions in Northern Nigeria and ensure the continued growth and safety of the country's aviation industry.

“Any decisions regarding the relocation of the firefighting simulator must prioritize the best interests of the Nigerian aviation industry and the future professionals who will shape its trajectory.”
PoliticsCPD Faults NLC Protest, Says It Is Neither Successful Nor Impactful by Orabi(op): 2:26pm On Mar 01, 2024
The Committee for Patriotic Democrats (CPD), has criticized the recent protest organized by the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC), saying that it was not successful or impactful.

The CPD also attributes its shortcomings to the leadership style of Joe Ajaero, the president of NLC, as well as the lack of support and participation from key stakeholders and the general public.

According to the CPD, it is evident that the protest was neither successful nor impactful due to a myriad of reasons, primarily stemming from the leadership style of Joe Ajaero and the lack of support and participation from key stakeholders and the general public.

Chairman of CPD, Musa Hayatu Habu, in a statement, said that Ajaero's leadership has been perceived as focused on personal interests, rather than addressing the concerns of the working class and the citizens at large.

He noted that one of the key reasons why the NLC protest failed to make a significant impact is the leadership style Since the ascension of of Joe Ajaero to the leadership position,

Habu said: “The exclusion of important stakeholders, such as students' groups and civil society organizations (CSOs), from the protest has also raised questions about the intentions of the NLC leadership. Neglecting these groups, who have traditionally supported the NLC, has further alienated the general public and eroded trust in the organization.

“The limited turnout at the protest, particularly in cities like Kano, indicates a lack of enthusiasm and support for Ajaero's leadership. This lack of widespread participation reflects a lack of confidence in the NLC's ability to effectively represent the interests of workers and the broader population.

“The NLC's involvement in partisan politics, specifically its support for a specific candidate like Peter Obi, has further undermined its credibility and integrity. By aligning with a particular politician, the NLC has compromised its objective of representing workers impartially and has alienated members with differing ideologies.

“To overcome these challenges, the CPD emphasizes the need for new leadership within the NLC. This new leadership must prioritize transparency, inclusivity, and independence from external influences to restore trust and credibility among workers, employers, and the general public.

“The recent NLC protest has been deemed unsuccessful and lacking impact by the CPD. They believe that a change in leadership is necessary to revitalize the organization and regain the trust and support of workers and Nigerians. This new leadership should be transparent, committed to rebuilding trust, and focused on the core objectives of improving worker conditions and avoiding partisan politics.”
PoliticsOhanaeze Youths Warns Against Scrapping PRODA Amidst Oronsaye Report by Orabi(op): 8:20am On Mar 01, 2024
The Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has warned against any move to implement anything outside recommendations of the Stephen Oronsaye report on Restructuring and Rationalization of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.

They reminded the implementation committee that they were only given a mandate to implement the white paper and not to add or subtract, warning that any attempt to doctor the report would not achieve the desired objective.

It would recall that former President Goodluck Jonathan had set up a commission to advise the government on restructuring and rationalization of Federal Government parastatsls, commission and agencies with the objective of determining areas of overlap and duplication of functions, among others.

President Bola Tinubu’s administration had on Monday 26th February 2024, said it resolved to implement the Oronsaye report which called for a leaner government by merging some agencies and scrapping some others.

In the committee’s recommendation, some agencies under the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology were recommended to be merged but the Projects Development Institute, PRODA, Enugu, was recommended to stand alone.

However, there are claims that some top government functionaries want to merge PRODA with other agencies contrary to the committee’s recommendation.

Reacting to the alleged move to doctor the recommendation of the committee on PRODA, the president of Ndigbo Youth Council, Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, told journalists in Abuja, that such action would be counter productive.

He insisted that the recommendations should be implemented to the letter, adding that since inception PRODA has not been given the desired attention.

He said “If given the necessary support, PRODA will be in the interest of the country, as it will take the nation’s technological advancement to the next level.

"They tend to forget that PRODA is not serving Igboland but the nation, and has been clearly positioned to take research and development to another level. Nigeria is a nation that totally depends on importation without producing anything, and it is the bane of the economy. Under such circumstances, an agency like PRODA deserves all the attention and funding it can get.

“A little look into history shows PRODA was a creation of the defunct East Central State government. It was created through an edict in 1971. It was charged with the broad function of generating and catalyzing industrialization by carrying out industrial research from the laboratory stage to the pilot plant stage and by rendering consultancy services to the government, industries and individuals. PRODA is one of the oldest research institutions under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology."

He advised the implementing committee not to bow to any pressure to doctor the document, pointing out that PRODA is an agency that deserves adequate attention.

He also expressed the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, Worldwide of their total support to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He called on the President Bola Tinubu’s administration to dismiss the compromised version of the Oronsaye Report and adhere to the original recommendations outlined in the Secretary to the Government of the Federation's letter.

He also accuses those behind the doctored report of having ulterior motives and emphasizes that PRODA serves the nation as a whole, not just a particular region.
PoliticsAlliance For Social Justice Knocks Ajaero, Says NLC Lost Credibility Under His L by Orabi(op): 7:58pm On Feb 28, 2024
A group, Alliance for Social Justice, has faulted the leadership of Joe Ajaero as national president of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), saying recent events have shown a drastic degradation in the union, leading to a loss of credibility and trust among Nigerians

The Alliance, comprising 52 groups, also accused the Ajaero’s led leadership of being inconsistent, deceptive, and insincere in their handling of issues of national importance.

Chairman of the Alliance, Linus Akpegwu, in a statement, on Wednesday in Abuja, stated that the current leadership has acquired the reputation of being the worst in the history of workers’ struggles.

The Alliance singled out Ajaero and accused him of simply playing the script of his kinsman Peter Obi, in an alleged attempt to smear the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The group emphasized that the current leadership has failed in its duty to represent the best interests of Nigerian workers and has instead become entangled in political games and personal vendettas.

The Alliance accused the NLC president, Mr. Ajaero , of being a mere pawn in the hands of Peter Obi, using the platform of the NLC to advance a political agenda that seeks to undermine the current administration of Tinubu.

He said: “The specific incident in question involves the NLC president engaging in a campaign for Mr. Obi’s 2023 presidential election. This action by the president has resulted in physical violence and clashes with thugs, further raising concerns about his impartiality and the integrity of the NLC as a whole.

“By openly supporting a particular candidate, the president has not only compromised the credibility of the NLC but has also potentially divided its members and eroded trust in the organization.

“This blatant politicization of the NLC not only undermines the credibility of the organization but also erodes the trust that Nigerian workers have placed in their leadership.

“The NLC is meant to be a voice for the voiceless, a champion for the rights of workers, and a force to be reckoned with in the fight for social justice and economic equality. However, the current president has strayed far from these noble ideals, choosing instead to serve the interests of a select few at the expense of the greater good.

“It is clear that a change is needed within the NLC leadership if they are to regain the trust and confidence of the Nigerian public,” the coalition noted and called for a complete shake-up in the leadership of the NLC, with more transparent and accountable leaders being put in place.

“This is not a demand to be taken lightly, as the NLC plays a crucial role in advocating for the rights of workers in Nigeria.

“Workers in Nigeria deserve better than what they are currently getting from their supposed representatives. It is time for the NLC to listen to the concerns of the people they are meant to serve and make the necessary changes to ensure that they are truly representing the interests of the working class.

“The NLC cannot continue to function effectively if it is led by individuals who are more interested in political gamesmanship than in the welfare of Nigerian workers. Transparency, accountability, and integrity are the values that should guide the leadership of the NLC, and it is clear that the current leadership has failed to uphold these principles."
CareerDemocracy Watch Initiative Urges NLC To Prevail On Ajaero To Step Down Over Corr by Orabi(op): 3:07pm On Feb 28, 2024
A non-governmental group, Democracy Watch Initiative, has called on the entire leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to prevail on Comrade Joe Ajaero to step down as President of the union.

DWI, in a statement signed by National Coordinator, Muhammed Sanusi, on Wednesday, hinged its calls on alleged corruption allegations against Ajaero as well as reported incompetence and partisanship.

The group said the labor union under Ajaero’s leadership has lost the confidence of workers, calling on NLC to immediately put a mechanism in place to investigate allegations against him.

Sanusi said that it is with a heavy heart that the group address the issue of corruption within the NLC leadership, specifically the President Joe Ajaero who has shown signs of partisanship towards certain regional political interests and a particular presidential candidate.

The group said they cannot sit idly by while the very organization supposedly established to protect the rights of workers is failing in its mandate due to corrupt and biased leadership.

Sanusi said: “The President of the NLC has been accused of engaging in corrupt practices which have undermined the credibility of the organization and compromised its ability to advocate for workers' rights. The partisan bias displayed by the President further exacerbates the division within the organization and hinders its ability to effectively represent all Nigerian workers.

“The recent revelation of corruption allegations against the President of the NLC has raised serious questions about his ability to lead the organization in a fair and transparent manner. It is deeply troubling to see someone entrusted with representing the interests of Nigerian workers using his position for personal gain, rather than advocating for the rights and welfare of the labor force.

“Furthermore, the partisanship displayed by the current leader of the NLC is unacceptable and goes against the principles of unity and solidarity that should guide the labor movement. The divisiveness shown by these biases undermines the strength and effectiveness of the NLC, hindering its ability to effectively advocate for the rights of all Nigerian workers, regardless of their background or geographic location.

“The recent protests called by the NLC against economic hardship have been met with little success, leading many to question the effectiveness and sincerity of the organization in representing the interests of Nigerian workers. The lack of significant impact from these protests can be attributed to the compromised leadership of the NLC, which has failed to address the root causes of the economic challenges faced by the working class.”

He also noted that lack of leadership, integrity, and transparency within the NLC has undermined the effectiveness of these protests and prevented them from achieving their intended goals.

“In light of these troubling revelations and concerns, the Democracy Watch Initiative is calling on the leadership of the NLC to compel Ajero to step down immediately and allow for a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations of corruption and bias. We believe that only through the removal of individuals who have lost the trust and confidence of their constituents can the NLC begin to rebuild its credibility and effectively represent the interests of Nigerian workers.

“The DWI stands ready to work with the NLC in addressing the root causes of economic hardship and advocating for the rights of all workers, regardless of region or ethnicity, the Civil Society Coalitions stand in solidarity with Nigerian workers and support their right to fair and just labor practices.” he added.

He called on the NLC to address the allegations and take immediate steps to restore the trust and confidence of Nigerian workers in the organization.

PoliticsNEN Lauds Bauchi Governor's Commitment To Prudence by Orabi(op): 10:38am On Feb 18, 2024
The Northern Emancipation Network (NEN), Bauchi State chapter has applauded the Bauchi State Government for once again demonstrating its commitment to prudence and fiscal responsibility by curbing the cost of governance through its meager allocation to the Governor's office for the 2024 budget year.

A statement released by the state's coordinator Muntari Lawal, said this decision sets Bauchi apart as the 3rd best among the 36 States in Nigeria in terms of the lowest allocation to the Governor's office, and the 34th from the States with the highest allocation to Governors office in the country.

“It is truly commendable to see the Bauchi State Government taking such a bold step to prioritize the efficient use of public funds. While some States have budgeted exorbitant amounts for their Governor's office, such as Lagos with N66.8 billion, Ogun with N64.2 billion, and Kogi with N39.2 billion, Bauchi has allocated a modest N3.1 billion. This decision not only reflects a commitment to financial prudence but also a dedication to serving the people of Bauchi State in the most cost-effective manner possible,” the NEN said.

They said Bala Mohammed Kauran Bauchi, the Governor of Bauchi State, should be commended for his leadership in making tough decisions that prioritize the needs of the people over unnecessary expenditures.

“By choosing to allocate a minimal amount to the Governor's office, Governor Mohammed has shown that he is committed to ensuring that public funds are used wisely and efficiently for the benefit of all citizens.

“It is worth noting that Bauchi's allocation to the Governor's office is the least in the Northeast region and second only to Sokoto in the Northern region. This demonstrates that Bauchi is leading by example in terms of responsible budgeting and financial management.

“Bauchi State Government's decision to curtail the cost of governance through its meager allocation to the Governor's office for the 2024 budget year is a commendable and praiseworthy move. Governor Mohammed's leadership in prioritizing financial prudence and efficiency should serve as an example for other States to follow.

“By making tough decisions that put the needs of the people first, Bauchi is setting a standard for responsible governance that should be emulated across the country,” they said.
