Some people are saboteurs that don't want the region to develop. Such people have been around us since during the civil war days.

When Nigeria had 19 states, Owerri was once the ONLY state capital without an airport.Like Sam Mbakwe single handedly built the Owerri airport when the FG refused to build airport in Owerri and it was thought a state government could not build one on its own.

An affordable reliable regional railway network must be developed through PPP Build, Operate, Transfer arrangement. The good thing is that the total length to achieve this network is not even up to 600KM!

The China Exim bank has given loans to Kenya, Ethiopia and Nigeria for similar projects using Chinese companies.

The SE with even more viable transport routes and very terrible Federal Roads in the region should explore the Chinese opportunity and build a regional transport railway network to be managed by a private company.

Although the respective state governments will hold minority shares in the company for their effort facilitating the project.

So Mbakwe was undeterred by FG rejection and went on to mobilize his people to build the Owerri airport when it was thought to be a mission impossible for a state government.

Since the FG excluded the SE region from federal railway projects, the region should mobilize and build it's own railway network.

The total length of a railway network connecting these cities isn't even up to 600KM.



So it's not a big deal if the affected states work together.

It's been a very long time folks have been calling for a reliable railway link in the SE especially as the FG appears determined to avoid the zone in allocation of railway resources in the country. With the appalling state of federal roads in the Southeast due to deliberate neglect of the zone by FG, the railway link as an alternative transport mode is critical.

I think a PPP arrangement of BOT with a good Chinese company will do it.

it wouldn't have been bad if Northern military juntas had not altered Nigeria's structure we agreed upon at independence.

More importantly,the northern military juntas forcibly annexed the oil resources of Niger Delta in particular and the south in general into a so called "federation account" and allocating the lion share of the money and projects done with the money to the north. it is very unfair to the resource owners.
