The leader of the Indegeneous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been granted bail in the sum of N300million with three sureties in like sum by an Abuja Federal High Court. After Kanu was granted bail by Justice Binta Nyako, Biafra, supporters took to the streets in various parts of Nigerian to celebrate.

Now that the IPOB leader has been granted bail, Akelicious.com brings you some things that may likely happen.

1. Agitation for Republic of Biafra continues Do not be surprised if Biafra supporters take their agitation to a whole new level following the bail granted to their leader. They are already seeing the court’s verdict as a victory. The Biafra supporters have refused to give up their agitation for the sovereign state of the Republic of Biafra despite efforts by the federal government to curb their activities.

That's good news. I think these routes would commence by the last quarter of this year because they will all originate from Enugu, and the terminal there may be completed by that time.

But I believe all Nigerian airlines should come together to form a national carrier that would only ply long-haul routes. The existing domestic airlines would obviously have a code-share agreement with the national carrier, and also continue to ply domestic and regional routes.

This, I believe would be more cost effective with regard to challenging the likes of BA, Virgin, Emirates, Delta etc than the current approach of little Nigerian airlines squaring up against the global behemoths. Despite the fact that both Arik and Medview have regular flights to the UK, both BA and Virgin control more than 90% of the traffic between both countries. A long-haul national carrier, with a start-up capital of between $1 billion - $1.5 billion, and one that is publicly traded on the stock exchange, would mount more of an effective challenge to the big global airlines.
