since you are adventurous, try this if you can:

1 med. onion, chopped
1 c. chopped celery
1 c. chopped carrots
1 bay leaf
4 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/4 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. oregano
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. basil
1 tsp. sugar
2 tbsp. grated Romano cheese
6 veal shanks
3 tbsp. olive oil
1 c. white wine
1 c. chicken broth
1 can whole tomatoes
1 can tomato sauce
1 can pizza sauce

Saute onion, celery, carrots and bay leaf in butter until onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in lemon rind. Remove from heat and set aside.

Combine flour with salt and pepper. Roll meat in flour and shake off excess. Brown meat on both sides in olive oil in Dutch oven, with tight fitting lid, over medium heat. Add tomatoes, sauces, wine, broth and seasonings. Add sugar and cheese. Add shanks and cook covered on low heat for about 1 hour. Serve over angel hair or thin spaghetti. Serves 4.

there is NO excuse for using crime to solve your problems - if the story is even true

Did you read anywhere we mentioned excuse?

the aim is to correct and not punish, punish does not solve any problem.

Nigeria has been killing armed robbers since donkey years, did it reduced?

there is a distinction between someone misled(first-time offender) and serial offender.

we all make mistakes in life.

Kobojunkie:

So, you stepped on a homeless man, and that somehow means there is nothing new in what this biker wrote about stepping on homeless men or is it about walking with your eyes closed? So, you would rather live in Ikoyi in Nigeria than in Bronx in America because there are no homeless men for you to step on in Ikoyi Nigeria? Isn't that really the message from the start? What is with the injection of the portion where you (heartlessly by the way because you felt to brag about it or something) stepped on a homeless man? What the heck was the point of that? and how does it really relate to this?

@Oyinda was right, we really have problems discussing real issues as a people . . . someone speaks up about a problem and we immediately rush into defensive mode and feel to attack the person's home(even when we are not even sure where the dude is from, we attack)

Open your eyes and read properly.

Soon they would import babangida face caps and T-shirt.bunch of losers as if that would address the numerous unanswered questions.Awon oloriburku somebody

good but that wont do anything.

This is correct.
Have you noticed that IBB is the only candidate that has publicly revealed his intention and also doing several things about? The others are too scared and also have no confidence to make anything happen. Even your president has no balls to reveal his intention

these guys have strategies and they are following it.

what strategies do we have the opposition adopting? Nothing and come 2011, they will loose again.
Politics / Re: Telecoms Manager Arrested With Cocaine by otawa: 8:48pm On Jul 14, 2010
fl you're teh perfect mark

what do you expect before ' i did it for the money'

a lady in my office - her husband had a stroke this year - perhaps she too moved cocaine to treat him

29 yr old mgr,no responsibilities telecomms company cannot afford to treat her mum - bs

she could even have gotten a bank loan - if it came to that

what kind of friends is one keeping - that one gets ibntroduced to drug pushers

story story
the lower cadre is 'na devil push me'

it easy to judge others, but have you live her life?

No matter what, the aim should be to correct and not punish.

She is more useful to us all doing what she learnt in Uni, she deserves to be corrected.

You nearly stepped on a homeless man sleeping on the side walk among the garbage? What are you? Heartless?

NOPE.

shows you nothing new about what this biker wrote.

I would rather live in Ikoyi in Nigeria than in Bronx in America.

all that said, Nigeria do need fixing.
Politics / Re: Lagos Is Sinking? by otawa: 8:38pm On Jul 14, 2010
SHOCKING statistics unfolded by experts yesterday gave hints that Nigeria could lose up to one third of its entire land area over the next 50 years. The doomsday prediction can, however, be averted if appropriate measures are taken to tackle the growing consequences of climate change.

And nothing will be done.

We have not manage to fix NEPA we want to fix a sinking Lagos. Wao.

If IBB is going this far, then the road is clear.

It was IBB way back in 1999 that brought back Mr Obasanjo.

These guys do their work under-ground but opposition only talk and no action.
Politics / Re: Telecoms Manager Arrested With Cocaine by otawa: 8:29pm On Jul 14, 2010
many missing facts.

which telecom company is this? could it be road side telecom selling re-charge card?

“My mother is sick and in critical condition. Her sight is failing and has been diagnosed with partial stroke. I have been solely responsible for her medical bills. When I could no longer settle the bills and the condition is getting worse, I began running around for help when I came across the people that introduced me into drugs.

they should investigate if this is true and actual go after those 'drug barons'

finally, if this is her first offence, there is no point to over-punish her.

6month in prison with a fine is enough. we all make mistakes.

After all, Mr Obasanjo and IBB are still roaming the street free after all they have done to us.

My guy, others may have different views from mine, i would suggest you forget your electrical engineering background and go into IT management but if you

choose to stay in EE i wld advise you acquire a prince2 and ITIL certification, albeit foundation level, though people may think prince2 is all about managin

projects, but its more than that, besides, the X-factor it gives your CV, employers want to see that u are willing to broaden your horizon and that u are

flexible. also, u never know what the future holds, i have some ITIL uk past questions if u neeed them. I did the prince2 and ITIL change practioneer

certifications and now i working as a change and configuration analyst even though i grauduated with a sociology degree. whatever path you choose my friend

always look at whats in vogue and look at what the future holds . good luck.

well said. that is the key. look for what is vogue.

Nothing new here.

Lagos is always safer than Joburg.

We dont need NYtimes to tell people to invest in Nigeria.

Nigerians needs to invest in their own country first.

It is NIGERIANS who will remain when the investors run away like they did in 2007 when things went burst.

Politics / Re: My Husband Saved Lekwot From Death, Says Maryam Abacha by otawa: 6:28pm On Jul 11, 2010
what you dont know was that Ken and Abacha were good friends during the time Abacha was GOC in Port Harcourt.

it was the judge at the military tribunal that gave death sentence to Ken and not Abacha, but there were potent civilians who prevail on Abacha not to grant amnesty.

if Ojukwu was among these potent civilians, I dont know.

as per the actual hanging, it was done early in the morning. No civilians were around only the Prison Commander and the execution, plus the other prisoners.

Ojukwu could not sign document as any witness, it is the family of the condemned and the prison warden plus the medical Doctor that can sign such witness papers.

Shell's call for "quiet diplomacy" in the 11th hour following the confirmation of the death sentence by the Nigerian Ruling Council has a hollow ring. Shell had ample opportunity to demonstrate concern over the 17 months of Ken's incarceration and trial. They chose to maintain their cosy relationship with the military dictatorship to secure oil profits rather than condemn, the brutal and unjust arrest and later sentencing of non-violent environmental campaigners.

In his closing address to the tribunal, Saro-Wiwa stated "I repeat that we all stand before history. I and my colleagues are not the only ones on trial. Shell is here on trial and it is as well that it is represented by counsel said to be holding a watching brief
Politics / Re: Fela Musical In NY. by otawa: 2:26pm On Jul 11, 2010
The Fela musical on broadway was great, its a fresh new approach to Fela Story.

That said, they should have gotten a proper Yoruba person, to double as the singer while the MAIN character can do the non-singing part of the musical show.

There is even no Fela Big Konga drum,

They could get away with this in New York, they wont in UK as we have more Fela Fans.

Above all, I will say if you have loose $, it wont be bad to see it.

Politics / Re: Uk Moves To Stem Immigration by otawa: 9:23pm On Jul 09, 2010
the immigration card is always played by the UK govt when the standard of living of its people starts to fall.

not only UK but all of EU countries.

IN the UK the school you go to determines your level of success in british society - notice how the current govt is made up of privately educated Oxbridge types, almost all of Cameron's cabinet ministers are products of private education. What makes you think they will want to upset the status quo?

Gbosa.

5th Ave is quite long, I find more good bargains on the north side, close to central park.

You need to take care as many of the goods are now 'made in china', thus a bit cheaper.
Politics / Re: Facebook Influenced My U-turn On National Teams’ Ban — President by otawa: 10:48pm On Jul 08, 2010
President Goodluck Jonathan has said the hundreds of posts on his Facebook page helped persuade him to reverse his suspension of the nation’s football teams from international competitions, the British Broadcasting Corporation reports.

Nigerians should be very afraid.

If your President now makes decision based on what some people are saying in FB instead of listening to 150million Nigerians that actually 'voted' for him.

what a country.

the yellow cab is ofcourse worlds apart from Lagos yellow taxi.

but why do we still have blacks doing shoe-shinning on the street? I thought this was in the 70s.
