There was a topic raised to why most Nigerian guys wait too long to get married. My conclusion was that money and not being ready is the main issue. Now, ladies, are those two factors an issue for you in terms of getting married or waiting for the broke to get his shit together?

I know some Nigerian couples in Portland that have had traditional marriage back home but have not had wedding here. It's clear that they don't have the money to do it or that they are not ready for the drama.

Some guys want to be in control, some want to be richer that the lady. That's not the case these days. Most of the couples that I know, their wives makes more money than they do.

So ladies, what do you all think about most Nigerian guys waiting too long to marry?
Do you think that they should do it even if they are not ready, broke? And for ladies that have reached the age [age that you suppose to marry, I don't know what age that is, but I think it's late 20s and early 30s], how do you feel that one guy have not picked you yet? Do you feel hopeless? Scared? Disgraced?

I try to keep people on track. I know these days a lot of students are not learning. It goes in from one ear and goes out from the other. Reading news papers like Punch might help those who didn't pay attention while in school.

Why the wait?
I don’t know. I know for me, I know some qualified Igbo ladies here. The question is which one do you pick? And if you do pick one, does that mean that you are trapped with her? Cash is also an issue. Right now I don’t have the cash that I want to have but I am working on it. I have too many bills at this time not even to talk about having to meet her needs.

What if she gets pregnant? Then, that means trapped without a choice.

One thing ladies need to understand is that Guys like to use certain ladies [those that have no respect for themselves and for others] as experiments and then they turn around to marry the ones that are strong, respectful, courageous and full of self esteem.

In Portland, there are some Igbo ladies that don’t take **** from any one. These people have gotten engaged or married and settled down in a house. And you have these ladies that are always on the phone with their girl friends talking about useless things [this guy, that guy, this party, have a date with this guy and another date].

I think that any lady that is strong and have full of self esteem and doesn’t let others to experiment with her is more likely to get engaged by the time she reaches her late 20s.

I see guys that experiment with other ladies. That’s disrespectful. Any lady who goes out with different guys is considered to be loose or lack self-esteem. She is just desperate to win some one. The truth is, the other guys know and they will experiment and won’t give in.

Ladies if you act in a decent way and play hard to get, you will attract the decent. That way you don’t have to wait for the experimenters out there with the other loose ladies.

Back to topic:

This seemed scary but it wasn't. While I was working at a store alone between 12-2am. A man came into the store, I walked behind the counter and asked him how I can help him. He looked down and put a note on the counter. The note states something like, "give me $50 and hurry." He put his hands in his pockets. There were three cameras rolling in the store. At first I didn't know what to do, I had to think fast so I acted like I was going to give him the money, opened the register, slamed it back and picked the phone on the side and dialed 911[U.S. Emergency number].

He looked at me and said, "you shouldn't have done that."He took off.

Two police cars came by and the officers said they didn't find any one around. It was in the news that the same man or similar person robbed other stores the same night. The same day, around 4-5am, a guy came in the store stole a lot food and drinks and took off. Called police again, one of the same guys showed up again and said that he didn't see any one.

I decided that If this was to happen again I wouldn't call the police. I didn't want to shoot any one, so I got a tear gas online. Get ready that the next thief that will dare to do what the first person did will regret his life that way. I waited for weeks, months and no one came. I gave up waiting for the robbers and quit the job.

When I left Nigeria, I didn't want to care about anything going on over there. I lost every relationship I had with people other than the Papa and Mama families. I know some Nigerians here but I can't stand their stupid behaviors. I rarely attend their parties here and now they all looking at me as if I owe them ****.

Nairaland is kind of encouraging me to look back and think, Nigeria is my place nor matter where I reside.

There is no way a nation like Nigeria can hold election with out corruption and bribe. So the winer should do what he can and the losers need to go and have a good cry and figure out what else to do, hopefully not politics.

I didn't vote, so I aint sweating. New president, now what? Another four years of Politics and then another election and then what? The circle continues. What's the point?

I voted for no one. There is no place to vote here any ways. The current president of Nigeria didn't seem to want people in my state to vote, if he wanted that, he could have made arrangements so that Nigerians here can vote. If that was done, I am likely not going to vote.

NIgeria is a sad place. No offense but think about it. All the things that are going on and each election time, these selfish and corrupt politicians will claim to do things that they will not do.

If I had a chance to vote. I would have voted for a president that will require all white people in Nigeria to have a Nigerian degree before getting hired in any professional job. That way it will be illegal for a white person to work in Nigeria without his/her papers. Sound imposible? Maybe because you have weak politicians rulling that strong nation. I am looking forward to this happening soon, and who ever becomes the new Nigerian president should make this issue one of his top priorities.

Nigeria need to work on major issues like health awareness, tax, 24hrs. electricity/water, security[not criminals acting like police], etc. If the new president put more time in building more mansions in his home village, selling Nigerians natural resources carelessly to foereigners, Nigeria will still remain a sad place for a long time.

Don't you ever vote for some one because they are of your own tribe or culture. You should have expectations and vote for those that meet them.

Why is Nigeria so violent?
