You're a Muslim, why are you engaged to a Christian? How exactly do you think it will work without friction?

Infact, how did you get this point gan that you did not know she will eventually make demands like this? were you sleeping all the while in the relationship?

You better break off your engagement and find a Muslim like you.
:-/
This is very senseless actually.
Muslims and Christians still inter-marry and nothing happens.

I'm starting to fear religion divides more than it connects.

LiteratureRe: Why Do People Dislike Reading Science Fiction? by Outofsync(m): 10:13am On Feb 26, 2017
herald9:
I love sci-fi novels and I'll continue loving it.

But then, I only love sci-fi stories from foreign authors cause I know that's their reality out there.

What does an average Nigerian know about robots, flying cars and space exploration that would culminate into a beautiful sci-fi novel that would keep you on your toes, without you getting bored to death?

Here in Naija, we are still living in a semi-rural society that is still striving to push its luck on areas of science and technology... And someone would describing flying cars, skyscrapers, space exploration and vice versa in a Nigerian setting?

Haba... We should be able to differentiate between science fiction and a lie na grin.

If you want sci-fi business to thrive in Nigeria, start with the basics, don't skip timelines. The novel should be more 'chemical and biological' in nature instead of full-fledged techy.

Every novel mirrors a society. Let's take our time.
The war of the worlds was written in the 1800's; when england was very much like Nigeria in terms of intellectual disparity and general enlightment.

Yet the novel was a bestseller and predicted war machines that eventually came to fruition.

Our society no be hindrace jare >smiley

Besides, Sci-fi is not as far away from reality as you wish. There are many inventions that have been predicted from sci-fi novels.

The internet of today was predicted by Neuromancer for example.

[font=serif] You know, I've been trying to avoid an argument with you but they way you subtly insult others and make it look like you know all is annoying.

I'm glad you know what one thinks isn't really what is. First, DOWRY isn't bride price! There's a difference.

Now, tell us, what do you think of a woman's family, paying a specified amount to her husband-to-be? Like in India? They still selling himhuh?
I wanted to respond to this sarcastically and whatnot but the wind is blowing, my hands are aching... I don't have the fortitude.

It's a pity you mentioned the dowry system without knowing its original intentions.
In ancient india, the wife's parent paid to dowry to ensure the woman doesn't get mal-treated and still has enough to eat after her "seniors".
Over the years, it evolved to something more sinister and Indians themselves are campaigning against it.

A simple google search on "the evils of the dowry system" would convince you. I could drag links here but I'm not in the mood for that.

In any case, your analogy is invalid. I have taken great care to limit it to "African women" and the intial intention of brideprice.

European or Asians do not matter in this light.

Bride price payment does not entail the purchase of a woman. I see it instead as a symbolic gesture acknowledging (but not paying off) the husbands permanent debt to the wife's family.
Dear me, we seem to be merry-go rounding over this issue.

Why should there be an "acknowldegment of a debt".

Debt implies that the cost of training her was a burden, a financial enterprise that paid off.

If not so, why should a man need to bring valuable goods to a woman's house NECCESARILY before marriage can be consunmatedhuh
This implies her value is instrumental. That she can be traded off for the right goods.
Means.....she can be bought.

I'm getting tired of repeating the same thing honestly...

You see, people give different reasons for bride price. Some say it it allows the groom to demonstrate that he has enough financial resources to support the bride (and possibly her family) after the wedding.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha grin grin

Joke; righthuh undecided

people incur huge debts over brideprice and no one in the bride's family cares. All they care about is that he brings the tubers of yam and the bags of rice.
Find another plausible reason abeg.

Why you're trying to distort the original intention of brideprice is still confusing me. Read any book of African Literature and it is written bare there the meaning and intent of brideprice.

I recommend you read "Things fall Apart" or "Arrow of God" by Chinua Achebe.
